Chapter 1: Life on Ant Island

As a bird flew across the sky, a leaf fell from the air and gently landed in a small puddle. Apparently, the leaf had come from a small island in the middle of a dried-up pond, where it fell from a big tree.

On the island, an ant was climbing up a plant stalk. It picked out a seed and dropped it. As it continued climbing, other ants were climbing up other plant stalks, picking out seeds and dropping them to other ants at the bottom. As the ants caught the seeds, one of them had an entire berry bunch dropped on him. The ants carried the food to a stacking of rocks covered by a big leaf. The leaf held a huge pile of food, like an offering.
As they continued to walk, one of them noticed a leaf slowly floating down from the tree. "No, no, no. Oh, no. Oh, no." He muttered as it landed in front of him. "I'M LOST! Where's the line?!" He cried. The other ants started piling up behind him. "It just went away! What do I do?!" "HELP!" "We'll be stuck here forever!" The ants panicked. "Do not panic! Do not panic!" Another ant, named Mr. Soil, called out as he and his cohort, Dr. Flora, came running down the anthill. "We are trained professionals. Now stay calm. We are going around the leaf." Mr. Soil said. "Around the leaf? I don't think we can do that." The leading ant said with doubt. "Oh, nonsense. This is nothing compared to the twig of '93." Mr. Soil assured. He started to lead the ants around the leaf. "That's it. That's it. Good! You're doing great. There you go. There you go! Watch my eyes. Don't look away. And here's the line again." He said, leading the ants back to the line. "Thank you. Thank you, Mr. Soil." The lead ant said, feeling relieved. "Good job, everybody!" Mr. Soil called. But as Dr. Flora ran up to join him, she noticed a certain gap in the line. "Oh, my. There's quite a gap, Mr. Soil. Shouldn't we tell the queen?" She asked. "I don't think we need to involve the queen in this. She's got enough on her plate already, training her daughter." Mr. Soil said. "Oh, yes. Princess Atta. The poor dear." Dr. Flora said.
Meanwhile, Princess Atta was pacing back and forth with worry while being shaded with her mother, the Queen, along with her pet aphid, Aphie, and Harry Potter's team. "Oh, wind's died down. They'll be here soon." Atta said with worry. "Just be confident, dear. You'll be fine." The Queen assured. "Yeah, Atta, take a chill pill. It's all gonna be a-okay." Peyton said. Just then, Atta gasped. "There's a gap. There's a gap in the line. What're we gonna do?!" She asked, freaking out as she rushed over to her assistant, Thorny. "It's okay, Your Highness. Gaps happen. We just lost a few inches, that's all." Thorny assured. "Oh, right." Atta said. As Thorny was counting up the food, Atta started hovering around him. "Your Highness, I can't count when you hover like that." He said. "Oh, of course. I'm sorry. Go ahead." Atta said as she stopped hovering.
"Wow. She must be really stressed out." Seamus said. "She has to be. This will be her first time to witness the offering to the grasshoppers while preparing to succeed her mother as queen." Hermione said. "We were the same when we were being sorted into our houses in Hogwarts." Ron said. "Oh, yes. Back when you called Hermione mental." Harry said, making the others laugh at Ron's embarrassment. "Well, I think Atta will make a very important queen. Believe me. I can tell she's a very special ant." Carmelita said. "Carmelita's right. She has that gift where she can tell if someone's special." Sly said. "Oh, we'll believe when we see it, Sly. For a Jellicle Cat, it takes a witnessing eye to see if a person is special." Munkustrap said. "Now that, I believe." Sly said.
"Guys, go shade someone else for a while." The Queen said, sending her shade ants away. "Okay, Atta. Now what do we do?" She asked, giving Atta a pop quiz. "Uh…Oh! Don't tell me. I know it. I know it. What is it?" Atta asked, straining her brain. "We relax." The Queen said. "Right." Atta chuckled. "Just take a deep breath, Atta. It's very unbecoming of a leader-in-training. Believe me. I know." Maxxor said. "Oh, it'll be fine. It's the same, year after year. They come, they eat, they leave. That's our lot in life. It's not a lot, but it's our life." The Queen explained, making a joke. Everyone chuckled at that. "Isn't that right, Aphie? Oh, you're such a cute little aphid." The Queen said, putting Aphie on the ground. Suddenly, the ground under Aphie started rumbling. He quickly squirmed out of the way as 2 ant boys climbed out. "Ditch Dot!" One of the ant boys said. "Yeah, yeah!" The other any boy agreed as they ran off. "Hey, come back here!" Dot, the Queen's youngest daughter and Atta's baby sister, exclaimed as she attempted to chase after those ant boys. She tried to fly after them, but since her wings were still tiny, she landed on her butt. "Oh, man, not again." Tugger said. "Dottie's down again." Parvati said.
"Dot!" The Queen exclaimed. "Yes, Mother." Dot said, knowing what was coming. "What did I tell you about trying to fly?" The Queen asked. "Not until my wings grow in." Dot said. "Right." The Queen said. "But, Mom…" Dot started to whine. "Dot, you're a young queen ant and your wings are too little to be-" Atta tried to say. "I was talking to Mother. You're not the queen yet, Atta." Dot said, rudely. "Now, Dot, be nice to your sister." The Queen said. "Yeah, Dot, loosen up a bit on her." Intress said. "It's not my fault she's so stressed out." Dot said. "I know, I know." Atta said with a sigh. "I'm always acting like the sky is falling."
