Your words are so kind and I can't thank you enough for them, I'm always so worried about posting new chapters afraid maybe people wont like it or understand what I'm trying to convey, but you always get it and I can never thank you enough for that! I honesty really missed writing big brother Edward so I was really happy getting back to the Cullens too! I love you too and therefor surprise chapter! Although it's probably not one that you wanted but I just have to clear a few things up before we get back into the Twilight universe as were not going to revisit this for quite a while (wink wink) Anyway, I hope this one holds you over for a few more days until we get back to our regular scheduled programming!

I always feel kinda guilty that you make yourself wait a while week to read chapters so I decided to post this one early so maybe you could treat yourself! and if you don't see this till the weekend then you can treat yourself to two chapters! I just have to tell you, I could not stop smiling the whole time I read your review...you my friend picked up on ever single little thing I hid in there from Dr. Manning to Sarah only visiting Mare an hour a day to the fact that Sarah couldn't remember Matts name (that was actually huge because if she did, we wouldn't be here.) The fact that you picked up on that made me possibility giddy because I was waiting for someone to point that out and...you did *tears* I am literally soooo proud of you! I'm so sorry it made you cry though, that's never my intention and I feel bad, please forgive me! thisIdo- Hello friend! welcome back lol, I'm so happy you got to bring read a few chapters and I'm so sorry about the heavy nature of the last chapter, but also not really, lol I love the hard chapters, there my favorite to write and they come easier for me. I love that your curious about Sarah, but also don't care lol, that made me laugh out loud. I hope you enjoy this surprise popup chapter, it kinda explains where Sarah is as we reenter the Twilight world (spoiler, she's in the jail the whole time, lol) ENJOY!


I'm Under Arrest


This isn't the life Sarah was supposed to have. She was supposed to travel the world, make, buy, and sell art. Hopefully get married, and live a life you only see in crappy romance novels. Instead, Sarah is surrounded by three white walls, two bunk beds, a small set of lockers, a toilet with a sink, and a door with bars. People like Sarah weren't meant for prison, yet here she is. She has a bond, but she can't make it and her parents refuse to pay for it. On one side she understands it, but on the other, she can't believe they would just abandon her completely, she's not a bad person, and she certainly is not a murderer like the media portrays her. She was a woman in pain, a woman who turned to unconventional methods to deal with that pain. She's a daughter, a teacher, a friend...she was a sister...she was a mother...no she still is because her daughter's are not dead, and if her lawyer has anything to say about it, she never will be.

She remembers very little of that night, which always happens with whiskey. Why on earth did she even buy the stupid Jack Daniels, rum was just fine, rum put her to sleep easy, but no. She can't completely play the victim although she kinda feels like one at times, but that's something she's learning in church...taking accountability. She chose to drink that night, she chose to fight with her daughter and she chose to get in that car and go look for her...and she hit her. She doesn't remember hitting her, but she does remember seeing her sitting on the sidewalk then nothing, then screaming. Everyone coming out, cops were being called, and someone telling her to stay in the car. There was a woman she remembers crying. Then there were paramedics, she remembers seeing three or four bending over something in front of her car. Three surrounded her and then she was loaded into an ambulance and taken to the nearest hospital, then darkness, for what felt like a very long time.

Then she woke up. She was in a gown in a bed, in a room of her own, with a cop sitting in the corner.

"What happened?" She felt awful, the alcohol was leaving her body, making her sick and shaky, this was usually the time she would take a shot or two, just to get through the first hour of her day, and then she would sip until she could get home. She functioned just fine, but now she was in a place where she was 100% sure they wouldn't serve her any adult beverage.

"Sarah Callahan?" She furrowed her brows at the officer,

"Yes?"

"You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to an attorney. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be appointed for you, do you understand the rights that I have read to you today?" WHAT?

"I'm under arrest." It's then she notices the handcuff on her right arm attaching her wrist to the hospital bed,

"Yes ma'am, you are being charged with operating a vehicle while under the influence, along with vehicular Manslaughter." Her eyes are wide,

"Manslaughter?" she barely gets it out, her mouth going dry,

"Correct?" She feels her eyes well, and she almost can't breathe,

"I hit someone?"

"Yes Ma'am," How could she, now she's not just shaking because she's sobering up. She takes a deep breath, trying to find her center of gravity, god she's going to be sick,

"Sir," She says after a second, "I have a daughter at home, I'm all she has...can.. can I please see her?" The cop's face doesn't change, instead, he lets the silence linger for a second before speaking again,

"The person you hit ma'am, was your daughter."

Sarah doesn't remember much after that, there was a lot of crying and screaming, she ripped out the IV and tried to take off the cuffs, after a second of struggling the cop just called for a nurse and everything went black after that. The next time she woke up, they took her to jail, she used her one phone call at the prison to call someone she hadn't called in years, her mother, but it turns out her mother already knew and refused to speak to her daughter. The hospital called Elizabeth and John Callahan when Sarah was brought in, it seems she never took them off her emergency contact list. Surprisingly they showed up at the hospital, only to met with a room full of cops. It was then that they learned THEY'RE daughter, in a drunken stupor had gotten into her car and hit her OWN daughter head-on.

They didn't know her current condition, only that she had been life-flighted to Mount Sinai Hospital. They immediately left Presbyterian and their daughter to get to their granddaughter who they hadn't seen in 5 years after her mother took her away from them. Sarah didn't learn this until she had her first meeting with her lawyer, but Marceline Ann Callahan had been pronounced brain-dead when she got to the hospital. The trauma surgeon said it looked like the 14-year-old was slammed hard into the concrete she was apparently sitting on, as the back of her head was so crushed that, she would have never stood a chance. However because she was a minor and because this was an open investigation, the child was put on life support while they waited for a legal guardian to be contacted. Turns out Sarah had made Marceline's best friend's parents as her legal guardians in case Sarah could not be there. Mainly she did this because Matt's mother was a lawyer and his father an accountant and both seemed to care for Marceline over the years since they became friends and with her dependency on alcohol, she could drink herself to death...and she wanted her daughter to go to someone other than her parents.

Matt's mother, Audrey was at the hospital when the Callahans showed up, she had been informed about Marceline's condition and was currently standing in a corner crying. How does she tell her son?! What does she do?! Meeting Marceline's grandparents was a shock. Sarah had told her both her parents were dead, and that was the only reason she agreed to become Marceline's guardian, but to find out they were alive and were THE Callahans?! She had thought the last name was a coincidence, boy was she wrong. They sat down with the doctor and was informed of their granddaughter's condition. The only thing keeping her alive was the tube down her throat to keep her breathing, the tube down her nose to keep her stomach clear, the tube to keep her bladder clear, the multitude of IVs pumping her veins full of drugs and saline to keep her hydrated, and several other things...the best thing they said, pull the plug.

At first, Elizabeth said no, they didn't care, they would pay whatever to keep her alive, but that was until she saw her. Marceline looked terrible, her long brown hair had been shaved, cuts and bruises lined her face and neck disappearing down the white gown she wore. This wasn't the granddaughter she remembered and when Audrey was brought in, any wavering doubt about keeping the teen alive was diminished, although as a lawyer she asked for a bit more proof before she would officially pull the plug. The next day the doctor brought Audrey back to show her Marceline's ocular-vestibular reflex. The Nurse propped her eyes open while the doctor pumped ice-cold water into her ear,

"If her eyes move to her ear, it means her reflexes are intact and recovery is possible, if her eyes don't move, there's absolutely no hope for recovery."

"Can they move if you're asleep?" Audrey asked covering all her bases,

"Even under sedation your eyes would move, it's an automatic reflex, like hitting you're elbow joint, the body just moves, however, this reflex requires brain activity. An absence of VOR does predict 100% cerebral death." The doctor explained. Audrey remembers staring hard into Marceline's eyes, they were so blown out you couldn't even see the green in them. None the less she begged them to move...they never did.

Before they can pull the plug, Sarah has to be told, while her lawyer tells her this he explains the possibility of child abuse being added to her current list of charges, as the state has been combing through all the hospital records. He tells her if she's found guilty of all these charges she will face life in prison without parole. With this information, Sarah and her lawyer decided to do the only thing that might save her life in prison...they filed a petition to keep the teen alive, and until they go to court, Maya, Elizabeth, John and the hospital have no choice...Marceline cannot die.
