Chapter 49: Family, Change, and a Growing Shadow

The scent of pancakes, eggs, and freshly brewed coffee filled the apartment. Kara and Goku moved effortlessly around the kitchen, preparing breakfast as the first rays of sunlight peeked through the windows.

But before they could fully enjoy their morning routine, a loud yawn interrupted them.

Bulma stumbled into the kitchen, hair a complete mess, stretching as she grumbled, "Ugh… I forgot how exhausting babysitting Saiyan-Kryptonian hybrids is."

Kara smirked. "Good morning to you too."

Bulma rubbed her eyes before looking at the table and freezing. Her gaze landed on Alura and Zor-El, who sat with the twins, watching them curiously.

"Oh… right," Bulma muttered, suddenly much more awake. She cleared her throat and straightened up.. "Uh, hi. You must be Kara's parents."

Alura, ever regal, gave a polite nod. "And you must be the scientist Kara spoke of."

Bulma grinned. "Yep! Bulma Briefs. Genius, billionaire, and Goku's oldest friend."

Zor-El raised an eyebrow. "Oldest friend?"

Bulma chuckled. "Yeah. And the only reason those two didn't kill each other the first time they met."

Zor-El and Alura exchanged looks. They had heard Kara tell the story, so they weren't surprised that she had attacked Goku at first. But a human stopped their fight?

Zor-El frowned. "A human stopped a battle between a Kryptonian and a Saiyan?"

Goku chuckled. "She's scary like that."

Kara smirked. "There's a reason Vegeta married her."

Alura and Zor-El snapped their heads toward Bulma.

"You married Vegeta?" Alura asked, eyes wide.

Zor-El added, "Prince Vegeta?"

Bulma shrugged, smirking. "Yep. And we have a son too."

Zor-El rubbed his temples. "This planet is… unpredictable."

As breakfast was served, Alura and Zor-El were left completely stunned—not by the food, but by how much food was being eaten.

Goku was demolishing plates of pancakes, bacon, and eggs at an alarming rate. Gohan and Alura Jr. were following closely behind, both toddlers shoving pieces of food into their mouths like they were in a race.

Zor-El blinked. "They… eat like this every day?"

Kara smirked, sipping her coffee. "Oh yeah. That's what happens when your kids inherit both Saiyan and Kryptonian metabolism."

Bulma chuckled, watching Alura Jr. stuff an entire pancake in her mouth. "They're gonna eat you guys out of house and home."

Zor-El shook his head. "This is absurd."

Alura, though surprised, simply smiled as she watched little Alura Jr. happily kicking her legs while chewing. "She certainly has a strong appetite."

Goku, wiping his mouth, laughed. "Well, we burn through energy really fast. Gotta keep eating to keep going!"

Zor-El, still processing what he was seeing, turned toward Gohan.

His Saiyan tail flicked behind him as he happily munched on his food.

Zor-El narrowed his eyes. "Why haven't you removed it?"

Goku looked up from his food and shrugged. "No reason to."

Kara added, "We plan to teach him to control his Great Ape form when the time comes. But for now, we just make sure he doesn't look at a full moon."

Zor-El's expression hardened. "And if he transforms?"

Goku smiled casually. "Then we cut it off. We're more than strong enough to handle it."

Kara nodded. "Besides, with his Kryptonian healing factor, it'll probably grow back faster than Goku's did."

Zor-El glanced between them, seeing no hesitation or fear in their eyes.

They had already planned for everything.

Despite his reservations, he couldn't deny the calm confidence in both Kara and Goku.

Later that day, Kara took her parents to meet someone very important—the woman who had raised her on Earth.

When Alura and Zor-El arrived at the Danvers home, Eliza Danvers was already waiting for them at the doorstep.

There was a long, silent moment as the two mothers stood face to face—one who had sent Kara away to protect her, and one who had taken her in when she arrived on Earth.

Alura felt an odd nervousness in her chest. She had so many things she wanted to say, but she wasn't sure where to begin.

To her surprise, Eliza took the first step forward, offering a warm smile.

"It's an honor to meet you," Eliza said gently. "Kara is like a daughter to me."

Alura exhaled, her shoulders relaxing. "I can see that. And I am so grateful. Thank you—for being there when I couldn't."

Eliza reached out, taking Alura's hands. "She's an incredible woman, Alura. You should be proud."

"I am," Alura whispered, emotion thick in her voice.

Zor-El, standing beside them, observed quietly. He had known that Kara had been raised by another family, but seeing it—seeing this human woman speak of his daughter with such love—was different.

Kara, standing between the two families who had shaped her life, felt her heart swell.

She wasn't just Kryptonian anymore.

She wasn't just human either.

She was both.

And she wouldn't have it any other way.

Meanwhile, far from the warmth of their family reunion, something sinister was brewing.

There had always been fear of aliens on Earth, but now, that fear was becoming something much worse.

Hate groups were growing—spreading their message through rallies, news outlets, and political speeches. Some even began to blame Supergirl, claiming that her presence made Earth a target for extraterrestrial threats.

Some humans were starting to fight back—not against invaders from space, but against aliens who had made Earth their home.

And Supergirl was at the center of it all.

She just didn't know it yet.

That evening, as the sun dipped below the horizon, Kara and Goku sat together on their balcony, looking over the quiet city. Alura and Zor-El were with them, staying for a little while longer.

Kara sighed, leaning against Goku's shoulder. "Today was… a lot."

Goku chuckled. "Yeah. But it's good, right?"

Kara smiled. "Yeah. It's really good."

She turned to him, her expression softening. "You know… even with everything happening, I wouldn't trade this life for anything."

Goku grinned, wrapping an arm around her. "Me neither."

Alura and Zor-El observed them quietly, seeing the undeniable love between them.

Zor-El still had many reservations, but… he had to admit. His daughter was happy.

Alura smiled, looking toward the stars. "You have built something wonderful, Kara."

Kara turned to her mother, her heart warm. "And now, I get to share it with you."

They sat there, watching the stars, enjoying the rare quiet moment.

The peace wouldn't last forever.

But for now, in this moment, they had each other.

And that was enough.

To be continued...

UPDATE:
I'm planning to also publish a kind of spinoff of this fanfiction which will be canon to this story. It will include Goku and Kara and their everyday life with raising Gohan and Alura. It will be mostly one shots of them as a family.
