Hello everyone! So, this story has been rewritten twice before, I know but I wanted to include an OC and rewrite some parts of the original story. This story was originally written to be a tribute to my late grandmother, but some toxic friends ruined that tribute for me. T.K. was my grandmother's favourite character and this OC being a part of it will pay tribute to that. I hope you enjoy it, and this is not backlogged at all so I'm writing as I go. The first chapter is also written for Day 11 of June of Doom for the prompt 'We're out of time'
1. What Hurts the Most
Miya Kitsune cried out as she stumbled to the ground, knees scraping against the ground as she winced. Blood trickled from her wounds although this was nothing new for her. Her father's abuse was much worse from when she grew up, but this was her family. Justimon and Renamon had taken her in and Mikemon was more than just her partner.
She was her sister, her friend, her everything and if they were captured here, they would never be able to reach the portal to the real world in time. Not to mention, Patamon and Chibimon were in her arms as she ran, and it was taking all her strength to make sure she didn't drop them because they would not survive.
"We're out of time," Mikemon panted. "All of us will never make it!"
"Then you guys go," Justimon said firmly. "Renamon and I will hold them off." He turned back around to face the incoming enemies that rushed toward them. Miya wanted to stop them – at least Renamon, the Digimon was like a mother to her in more ways than one, but her mother did not give her the chance to even open her mouth to try to do so. She pushed her and Mikemon through the nearest portal.
No, no! This was not how she wanted to reach the real world – if she ever wanted to at all. She did not want to be forced to leave the only family she had ever known. She didn't want to lose her mom, not again. As her head hit a carpeted floor, tears reached the brim of her eyes and she could not stop herself from letting a few out, even as a surprised voice shouted out.
"Whoa! What are you doing here?"
Davis Motomiya was used to strange things happening. Hearing Tai talk about the digital world and then becoming a part of the crazy adventure, strange things happening was a regular occurrence. But seven years had passed since the defeat of MaloMyotismon and when the Digimon had returned to the digital world, it had been saddening but they had kept in touch outside of the last two years when the gates to the digital world had locked suddenly.
Izzy, Ken and Yolei all did everything they could to try and get the gates open, but nothing worked. Even Willis's attempts to help them failed and while they were still trying, this was not something Davis had expected to see when he woke up in the morning. A girl with a Mikemon by her side and Chibimon and Patamon cradled in her arms, passed out.
"Whoa! What are you doing here?" was the first thing that naturally came out of Davis's mouth because this was something he was still wrapping his head around albeit when the girl flinched, shivering away from him, he paused.
"Please don't smack me," The girl said softly. "The digital world needs you; this crest was the only way."
Smack her? He would never smack her…why would she automatically assume something like that? He shook his head. She looked terrified; he could worry about why she was here later. But the way she was shivering and flinching from him, he needed her to calm down first.
"Hey," Davis said gently. "I won't raise my hand against you. I just haven't seen the Digimon in the last two years. I promise I won't hurt you. I want to help you. I can tell you care about these Digimon too, so will you let me help?"
"Miya, its ok," Mikemon assured her gently. "Mamamon and Papamon wanted us to trust them."
Miya hesitated but Davis shook his head.
"Don't push her to trust me," Davis said softly. "Trust has to be built, not forced. Even if someone important to her wanted her to trust us, I want her to trust me because I don't look scary and I want her to see that." He knelt by her to her eye level, and she watched him for a moment as Mikemon went silent at these words.
In a way, it was like Ken, but Ken was never distant from them because he was scared. But this girl, he could sense the fear coming off her. He could still see her trembling lightly although her facial expression had softened a little. He held out a hand to her and had no idea if he was going the right way about this, but he felt this was something that she needed. And maybe his small act would help her and help them too.
Miya reached out and grasped his finger, her hand shaking as she tried to grip it. It was like a small child, trying to find someone to trust again, trying to find some shelter and he gripped her finger. Ok, so she hadn't taken his hand, but this was a start. A beginning of trust and he wasn't going to let that go to waste.
"I understand, it will take time," Davis said softly. "But you're here with the Digimon, so can you trust me enough to tell me what happened? Then I can call the others here too. Here, come sit on the chair or on the bed, wherever you feel comfortable."
He waited as she stood, moving to sit on the bed and resting the Digimon down there. Mikemon climbed beside her, and Davis sat a little further away so if she wanted to move away, she was comfortable.
"The digital world has been taken over," Miya said softly. "I was taken to the digital world six years ago when I ran away from home. Justimon and Renamon took me in and gave me a family. We lived in peace until it arrived. It calls itself The Hollow and no one knows whether its human or Digimon. Those who were not strong enough were deleted and those who were very strong were taken as unwilling slaves to serve The Hollow, the Chosen Digimon being prime targets of the creature."
Davis scowled, hearing this as he glanced at Chibimon. That explained why his friend was so hurt and why Patamon was unconscious too. But he had become somewhat patient over the years – imagine that! – so he simply nodded for her to continue.
"Justimon and Renamon wanted to help protect them and I didn't want to let them do it alone," Miya admitted. "That's when a digivice appeared to me and Mikemon turned from my twin sister to my digimon partner. She was able to armour digivolve to Bastemon and we were able to fight many battles. We may have been able to get you guys to the digital world too but…" Hesitation came to her tone, and she struggled to speak for a moment causing Davis to pause.
"What is it?" he asked softly.
"I…I don't know if you'll believe us," Miya said softly. "I mean no one would want to believe that someone they trusted…maybe this was a bad idea." Her breathing picked up a little, but Davis squeezed her hand a little.
"I'll believe you," Davis said softly. "You've protected our partners this whole time, I'll believe you."
Miya bit down on her lip for a moment before she exhaled. "Your friend…Gennai, he was also a target. But in exchange for not being captured, he promised The Hollow to…"
Davis felt his heart sink, but it would explain a few things. But no, it couldn't be. No, Miya wouldn't lie, she had saved Chibimon and Patamon, bringing them here. "To what?" He knew he would regret asking but he needed to know the answer.
"He promised The Hollow to close the gates between the human world and the digital world permanently."
