Author's Note: The song featured here is actually a parody of "That's All I Need" from Lion King 1 1/2. I do not own the original song nor any originals I make parodies out of. I do plan on making parodies to songs in the future of this story, but I'll use the same lyrics as the original Sonic Underground songs because there are several parts of the show where they apply.

Any and all comments are welcome.

One year ago

"Sonic, quit revving around. It's time for dinner."

Sonic the Hedgehog stopped running around at great speed and suddenly appeared in front of another blue hedgehog who was older with a mustache.

"Chili dogs, Uncle Chuck?" Sonic asked excitedly.

"Nothing short, my boy." Uncle Chuck said revealing his dinner table which had a plate with ten chili dogs on it.

Sonic quickly dashed to the table and began dining in. "Thanks, Uncle Chuck! You're the best!"

Uncle Chuck gave a happy laugh. "Thanks, Sonic. By the way, how's your medallion?"

"This thing?" Sonic asked as he held up the silver pendant on his necklace. It was shaped like an electric guitar. "Still shiny. The strange thing is, I never seem to want to take it off."

"Good." Uncle Chuck said.

"Why?" Sonic asked. "What's so special about it?"

Uncle Chuck frowned not giving an answer.

KNOCK-KNOCK!

Both Sonic and his uncle were caught off guard by the knocking they both heard at their apartment door.

"Expecting someone, unc?" Sonic asked.

"No." Uncle Chuck said with growing suspicion and worry. "Sonic, you better hide."

"Why?" Sonic asked.

"I'll explain later." Uncle Chuck said. "Just hide. Don't come out no matter what."

No matter how confused Sonic was, he listened to his uncle. At great speed, he ran off into a cupboard. With another knock more aggressive than the last one, Uncle Chuck took a deep breath and answered it. He opened the door revealing two apes in red uniforms and powdered wigs. One was a large orangutan and the other was a small tarsier with big eyes.

"Can I help you?" Uncle Chuck asked. That was when the gorilla grabbed ahold wrapping his big fingers around the old hedgehog.

"Gotcha!" the gorilla shouted.

"What are you doing, Gerard?" the big-eyed ape asked her partner.

"What? Isn't this the guy, Lemieux?"

"No, you buffoon! Scarlemagne said the blue hedgehog we're looking for is twelve years old! This guy is clearly not that young!"

"Oh. Right." Gerard said. "So did we make a mistake?"

"Of course not." Answered Lemieux. "I saw that young hedgehog with my own eyes."

"If I may," Uncle Chuck said, "I think you made a mistake."

"That's our business, grandpa!" Lemieux said. "Now, where's the kid? I saw him through your window!"

"I have no idea what you're talking about." Uncle Chuck lied. "I've been living alone all my life."

"We'll see about that." Lemieux said turning to her partner. "Turn this place upside down until you find the kid. And remember, Scarlemagne wants him unharmed."

Gerard nodded before exploring the apartment. He turned all the furniture over making Uncle Chuck nervous as he got closer to the kitchen. As soon as Gerard was about to open the cupboard that Sonic was in, Uncle Chuck gave in.

"SONIC, RUN!"

"Wha…" Gerard asked before a flash of blue rocketed out and rammed him in the face. Sonic landed and ran out the door taking Uncle Chuck with him. Both the apes were awestruck at what just happened in the one second that passed.

"Wow. Scarlemagne was right. He is a fast one." Gerard said rubbing his sore face.

Just a few blocks outside their apartment, Sonic stopped running getting his Uncle Chuck to safety.

"That was a close one."

"Uncle Chuck, what's going on?" Sonic asked. "Those guys said Scarlemagne wanted me. Why? I never even met him."

"I'm sorry, Sonic. There's a lot I can't explain right now. But for now, you should know something. I'm not your real uncle."

"What?" Sonic asked in confusion. "I don't understand."

"Look, it's not safe here anymore. You gotta go now."

"What about you?"

"I'll only slow you down. Scarlemagne is after you and you can't let him take you no matter what. He's dangerous and unpredictable. Don't worry, I'll be fine."

"But…"

"I'll be fine." Uncle Chuck repeated. "Take care, Sonic."

Sonic was obviously hesitant, but he knew to trust his adoptive uncle. He gave him one last hug before running out of sight in the blink of an eye.

Present day

At the top floor of an abandoned school, Sonic tapped his red shoe and started humming.

"My kind of life. That's my kind of…"

He stopped when he heard the distant squeal. He looked outside where the pool used to be and saw a little pig getting close to it. When it stopped, Sonic noticed that this blue pig had four eyes and six legs.

"Well, that's cute." Sonic said. "Looks like it knows better than to get in that mega-bunny pit. I guess…" He stopped when he noticed a purple human girl, Kipo, behind the pig. "Does that girl look familiar or is it just me?"

Kipo stopped to look into the pool. She smiled admiring the baby mega-bunnies inside of it. She decided to pet them and went to climb down the ladder.

Sonic freaked out and reacted hastily. He ran right out of his room and heading straight outside where he tackled Kipo by surprise pushing her away from the pool. The two regained their stance and stood across from each other.

"Have you lost your marbles?" Sonic asked. "You can't just go into a mega-bunny pit! That's too dangerous!"

"Uh… you're a blue hedgehog." Kipo said with eyes full of surprise. "You're the one from my dream?"

"What are you talking about?" Sonic asked. Suddenly, he widened his eyes himself finally recognizing the girl in front of him. "You had that dream too?"

The pig approached them and oinked in confusion.

"Too?" Kipo asked. "Wow, this is weird."

"This is weird, isn't it? Okay, let's start over. My name is Sonic."

"Nice to meet you. I'm Kipo. This pig here is Mandu. So… what's that about the bunnies?"

"Where have you been?" Sonic asked. "Mega-bunnies are dangerous, especially if you touch the babies fur."

"But they look so soft and cuddly and cute."

"They'll be less cute when they're mommy comes back. She catches the scent of her children's fur. If you touch one, you'll have that smell right on you and she'll keep hunting you down thinking you're one of her kids. And trust me, the last thing you want is a snuggle from a mega-bunny."

"Wow." Kipo shook. "Okay. So stay away from the bunnies. Good tip. So… About your dream?"

"Right. I'll show you." Sonic said. He grabbed onto Kipo and Mandu taking them straight back to where he was a minute earlier. Kipo widened her eyes processing the great speed while Mandu shook.

"Wow!" Kipo expressed herself. "You're fast!"

"Thanks. It's a gift." Sonic said. He held up his silver guitar pendant in front of Kipo.

"Wow. That's pretty." Kipo said.

"Yeah. Had it my whole life." Sonic said. "I could never bring myself to get rid of it. Then, last night, I had this crazy dream that I was rocking out with you and two other hedgehogs. And when I woke up, my pendant could do this."

With a wave of the pendant, it flashed blue light that nearly blinded Kipo and her pig. When it died down, Kipo looked in surprise seeing the electric guitar that rested in Sonic's hands.

"How is that possible?" Kipo asked.

"Beats me. Never done this before." Sonic said. "I mean, I'm pretty good with music, but I've never turned a piece of jewelry into a guitar and back."

"So you play music too?" Kipo asked.

"Yeah. In fact, I've been working on this sweet song, but I still feel like it's missing something."

"Can I hear what you've got so far?" Kipo asked. "I'm quite good too."

Sonic smiled and shrugged. "Sure. Why not?" He began softly strumming his guitar before singing.

Sonic:

They say it's dog eat dog

Where only the strongest survive

I may seem like a naïve hedgehog

But that's not what I call being alive

I wanna live out my days without a care

And enjoy my time in the sun

I wanna face off against any dare

And run where I want to run

Don't need any more

Any of that jungle laaaaaaaaaaaaw

YEAH

I tell you what'd be great

Someone who's not a foe

A friend who'd relate

And I won't have to go

I need a spot to stay

And relax a while

Living live my way

With a big smile

And I'll be gorging on a chili dog I keep in my hand

Living my life and living off the fat of the land

A carefree existence without any strife

My kind of life

That's my kind of liiiiiiiiiiiife

I've always been so quick on my toes

That, and I'm quick overall

I've always been one to steal all the shows

And to break through every wall

A dream sublime

It's Sonic mania tiiiiiiiiiiime

"And that's all I got so far." Sonic said. "I feel like it needs a more upbeat end to that."

"Hmm." Kipo placed her finger on her mouth. She then lit up and snapped her fingers. "Got it!"

Kipo picked up her own guitar and started strumming a more electric rhythm that Sonic was glad to follow.

"I like it. I really like it." Sonic commented.

"Great!" Kipo said. "Now, pick it back up!"

"Time to do it to it!" Sonic said. "IT'S SONIC MANIA TIIIIIIIIIIIIME!"

Sonic:

I'm not like the fools

Kipo:

Your life is your own

Sonic:

Who follow all the rules

Kipo:

The choice is yours alone

Sonic:

About every mute for himself

Kipo:

Wouldn't that be nice

Sonic:

It never hurts to help

Kipo:

That's a paradise

Sonic:

And that survival of the fittest crud

Kipo:

We may be animals

Sonic:

Is just a stick in the mud

Kipo:

But not mean animals

Sonic:

I got nothing to fear

Kipo:

That's a dream sublime

Sonic:

Because I'm still here

Kipo:

Sonic mania time

Sonic and Kipo:

We don't care of we're making a mistake

It may be a bad choice, but it's ours to make

SO CARPE DIEM FOR GOODNESS SAKE

Sonic:

MY KIND OF LIFE

Kipo:

OUR KIND OF LIFE

Sonic:

WHAT A GREAT LIIIIIIFE

Kipo:

ONE AWESOME LIFE

Sonic and Kipo:

THAT'S MY KIND… OOOOOOOOOOOF LIIIIIIIIIIIIFE

MY KIND OF LIFE

Both Sonic and Kipo ended the song bursting out in enjoyable laughter. When they were done, they smiled.

"That was so cool." Sonic said. "Thanks, Kipo."

"You're welcome." Kipo said. "Hey, maybe you can help me out."

"With what?" Sonic asked.

Kipo scratched the back of her head. "Well, I kinda got separated from my burrow and…"

"Whoa! Back the truck up!" Sonic said. "You're from a burrow? That explains how you don't know about mega-bunnies."

"Do you not get many humans?" Kipo asked.

"Occasionally, I see one, but they're usually alone. You better keep that to yourself. A whole burrow of humans is a bit of a hot commodity for the less-than-nice mutes."

"Wow. Okay then. Anyway, perhaps you can help me back there. And when we get back, maybe there's a place for you there."

Sonic lit up his eyes. "Really?"

"Yeah." Kipo said. "And Mandu too. My friends there would love you. And on the way, maybe we can find some kind of explanation for your medallion or our weird dream."

"Well, I got nothing better to do." Sonic said. "All right. I'm in."

In another part of the city, a hooded woman raced over to a hiding place before she can be seen by apes flying two-headed flamingos above her. She managed to conceal herself in a broken-down building so she could remove her hood. It was a grown hedgehog woman with purple hair. She peeked outside seeing her pursuers fly out of sight before she sighed in relief. That's when she heard a buzzing sound coming from her pocket. She pulled out a hand-held radio which was making noise. That's when a man's voice came out of it.

"Aleena? Aleena, are you there?"

The hedgehog woman answered. "Lio? Is that you?"

"Oh, thank goodness." Kipo's dad said from the other side of the call.

"What are you doing?" Aleena asked. "We agreed never to use this radio line until…" She stopped herself and widened her eyes. "Oh, no. It's happening, isn't it?"

"Yes." Lio answered. "Our burrow was attacked."

"Are you okay? What about your daughter?" Aleena asked.

"We're all fine." Lio said. "But Kipo and I were separated. She's on the surface right now. And if what Delphius said is true, she's currently on her way to meeting the other kids."

"Sonic. Sonia. Manic." Aleena said. "Oh, I knew this day was coming, but now that it's here… What now?"

"Kipo's going to come looking for me." Lio said. "The problem is, everyone in my burrow was moved after the attack. We're at another burrow which I know Kipo won't find on her own. I'll send you the location soon. After that, you're gonna have to find some way to lead Kipo and your kids over to us without letting anyone else find us."

"All right. And I'll be sure to meet them there along with you." Aleena said. "See you soon, Lio."

"Thanks, Aleena." Lio said before signing off.

After that, Aleena carefully sneaked out of her hidey-hole. She put her hood back on and climbed up to the top of a pile. She knew there was no enemy of hers around, so she was free to look out to scan the city. Tears started to creep down from her eyes thinking about the kids she had to separate years earlier.

"I long for my children, but I have to wait. To act too soon could seal their fate."
