Author's Note: The song featured here is from Sonic Underground. Like all the other Sonic Underground songs that'll be here, it'll be exactly like in the original series.
The streets of Las Vistas had many shops, including a workshop for vehicles. One such workshop had garage doors that opened up. What walked out was a small, yellow-and-white furred fox mute. The most unusual thing about him was the fact that he had two tails behind him. He wiped his forehead and closed the shutter doors.
"That oughta do it. I suppose I'll have to find an opportunity to test it." That's when the Mod Frogs' limo flew by. The fox had a quick glance to look into the passenger seat and widened his eyes. "Was that… Well, I suppose there's no better time than now."
Jamack laughed as he kept his hand on the steering wheel. "I tell you. After today, we're hitting easy street, baby."
"Hey, Jamack," Harris said as he held onto Kipo's brown bag, "I was ruffling through the burrow girl's belongings and… Well, that's when I found this." He pulled out the glowing, purple gemstone that Kipo found the other day. Jamack widened his eyes at the sight of it.
"Whoa! You're kidding! That burrow girl had a Chaos Emerald? I thought there were only two."
"Two?" Kwan asked. "I thought Scarlemagne had one."
"Technically, he owns two," Jamack said, "But he lent one to the Newton Wolves for a project he's given them. Still, I had no idea there was a third Emerald. Better keep that in the bag to give to Scarlemagne as a bonus. Oh, here we are."
Harris put the Chaos Emerald back into the bag just as the limo stopped at their destination. The Mod Frogs' hideout was a large pond with pathways made of lillypads. From everywhere, other Mod Frogs converged just as the three in the limo exited their vehicle and pulled out the hedgehogs, Kipo, Wolf, Benson, and Dave. They were all tied by their wrists and ankles.
Sonic started to panic scooting away from the edge of the lillypad. "I hate water!"
"We're living large today, everybody!" Jamack declared to every amphibian who would listen. "Not only do we have a burrow girl, but we also found the three hedgehog children!"
"Me, a burrow girl?" Kipo jokingly denied. "Hey, I hunt mega-bunnies. I'm clearly not who you're looking for."
"And we're not hedgehogs." Sonic said. "We're… porcupines."
"Porcupines?" Sonia asked.
"Well, they're kinda like hedgehogs, aren't they?" Sonic asked.
"Yeah, we're not falling for that." Jamack said.
"I'll check for myself." Said a female voice. A short Mod Frog flew in on a platform of flies that carried her. All the other Mod Frogs made way for her.
"Ms. Sartori." Jamack said nervously. "I'm sure you'll be satisfied."
Sartori lowered herself to closely examine Kipo. "Hmm. No signs of sunlight interaction. No missing teeth. Yep. This girl's from a burrow all right. And as for these kids…" She went on closer to the three hedgehogs. "Three hedgehogs. One is blue, another is pink, and the third is green. And they each have musical instrument pendants. Yep, they're exactly how Scarlemagne described."
"What does Scarlemagne even want with us?" Manic asked.
"I don't know, and frankly, I don't care." Sartori said.
"Well, that's careless." Dave said.
"Well, she did say she doesn't care." Benson said.
"That's true."
"And that's not all, ma'am." Jamack said. Harris tossed him the brown bag and he pulled out the purple gem inside startling everybody. "This burrow girl has a Chaos Emerald on her."
"A what now?" Kipo asked.
"Well, this is interesting." Sartori said. "With a burrow girl, the three hedgehogs he's looking for, and a new Chaos Emerald, we've hit the motherload."
That's when everyone felt a slight shake. The puddles around them began to ripple. Everyone looked around nervously for the source. Although, Kipo and Wolf were both smug about it.
"What did you girls do?" Sonic asked.
"Like I said, we deal with mega-bunnies." Kipo said. "So before Jamack captured us, we took a stop at a certain nest and picked up these fluffy things." She reached into her pocket and pulled out a handful of bunny hair.
"She didn't." Manic said widening his eyes. Suddenly, a large shake was heard and the mega-bunny from the school appeared from out of nowhere. All the other Mod Frogs began to panic.
"She did!" Sonia yelled out.
"Not gonna lie, I'm impressed!" Sonic commented. "What's next?"
"Mandu, now!" Kipo screamed.
Suddenly, the four-eyed pig exploded from out of the water with Wolf's deathstalker tail staff in her teeth. She swung it right where the others were and they used it to cut off their ropes.
"Good work!" Manic said right when the mega-bunny shook the place again. "What's next?"
"Honestly, I didn't think that far ahead!" Kipo replied.
The mega-bunny swatted its paw into the water letting everyone ride on top of the lillypad they were currently on. They screamed as they rode the waved, though Sonic screamed much louder. Then, his screams stopped when his ears caught a whirring sound closing in from the distance.
"Hang on." Sonic said. "I know that sound…"
As the lillypad began to slow down, everyone turned to see something closing in from the sky. They all squinted.
"Is that…" Wolf asked.
"A plane?" Kipo continued.
Sonic smiled seeing the blue propeller jet with yellow outlines. "Oh, yeah. And just when we need him the most."
"Who's him?" Dave asked.
"I'll explain later!" Sonic said. "Right now, just jump when he comes in! Trust me!"
Without another word, the others awaited. As the plane got closer, everyone saw the pilot was a certain two-tailed, yellow-and-white fox.
"Hop in now!" he yelled out. At that moment, the others jumped and grabbed onto the plane. They all tried, but it took a lot of effort to fit everyone into the one empty seat that's right behind the pilot. "Sorry I didn't have the extra room, Sonic."
"It's all right, Tails! Just get us out of here!"
"Skyscraper Ridge!" Wolf shouted. "Get us through Skyscraper Ridge!"
"Are you crazy? That's the world's most dangerous labyrinth!" said the fox. "No one can navigate through there!"
"Then it's a good thing you have us!" Manic said gesturing to himself, Benson, and Dave.
Kipo looked behind them and widened her eyes. "Uh, guys? What's faster, a bunny or a frog?"
She fixed her eyes on the mega-bunny that was hopping toward the plane. Her eyes also caught Jamack riding his limo above the mega-bunny's head angrily.
"You tricked me!" he shouted. "Actually, I'm impressed! But you're not getting away!"
"Skyscraper Ridge, now!" Kipo yelled.
The fox mute nodded and flew his plane straight into the entire valley of broken-down buildings that were impossible to see through. With Benson, Manic, and Dave guiding, the plane made every turn count, but neither Jamack nor the mega-bunny lost their trail.
"This guy's relentless!" Sonia said.
Jamack proved her point by shooting his tongue out. By sheer luck, he managed to catch Kipo and pull her over to the limo.
"Kipo!" Sonic shouted. "Keep flying! I'll catch up!" He leaped out of the plane and landed right to the side of a broken-down skyscraper. He dashed across to keep up with Jamack who had Kipo pinned to the hood of his vehicle.
"We're heading to your home now, are we, burrow girl?" Jamack shouted. "I can tell. So tell me where it is and I'll let you go. In fact, let's sweeten the deal. You tell me what I want to know and I don't let all your human friends know it was you who ratted them out."
When Kipo turned and saw Sonic running at the skyscraper beside her, she came up with a plan. She leaned up to Jamack close enough to do what she had to do.
"You need to do some soul-searching."
Kipo separated from Jamack leaving the frog to discover the mega-bunny fuzz on his back. It was too late for him though for the mega-bunny already snatched the back of his suit with its teeth and carried him away. He screamed as he was way out of sight. As it did, Kipo noticed that Jamack dropped her dad's bag. She managed to catch it before leaping off of the limo. Thankfully for her, Sonic managed to catch her in his arms.
"Gotcha, Kipo!" Sonic called out. He then continued his run faster than before to keep up with the plane.
"Thanks, Sonic." Kipo said. "Think Jamack's gonna be fine?"
"I wouldn't worry about him." Sonic said. "That guy's too annoying to stay down."
Once the gang made it all the way through Skyscraper Ridge, the fox's plane landed right near the center of the highway. Sonic stopped soon after to release Kipo.
"That… was… amazing!" Benson shouted.
Sonia cringed as she straightened her hair. "Maybe for you."
Suddenly, Dave began to twitch. He groaned and strained as his whole body began to grow. In just two seconds, he became much bigger, bolder, and more muscular. Everyone watched in annoyed surprise.
"That might have been handy to have five minutes ago." Benson said.
"Anyway," Sonic said turning to the two-tailed fox mute, "Thanks for the save, Tails."
The one called Tails chuckled. "Aw, it was nothing. I saw you guys being carried away by the Mod Frogs and figured I could help."
"Tails?" Kipo asked. "Oh, because of the tails. I get it. So how do you know each other?"
"Well, a few months ago, I caught Tails here being harassed by a gang of Scooter Skunks." Sonic said. "With my speed, it was easy for me to blow all the stink back to those stinkers."
"I've been his buddy ever since." Tails said. "So what's been going on lately, Sonic?"
"Well, long story short, I found Kipo here, turns out I have a brother and a sister, and we're trying to get to Kipo's burrow before Scarlemagne gets us."
"That's wild." Tails commented.
"You're taking all that surprisingly well." Manic said.
"I'm an engineer who was born with two tails. My life is anything but normal already. So where's your burrow?"
"If I'm right, it should be over that hill." Kipo said pointing at the large pile of broken down cars.
"Well, the good news is, this is where your burrow is." Wolf said. "The better news is, this is where we say goodbye."
"Goodbye?" Kipo asked. "Why? Aren't you coming with us?"
"I said I'd get you back to your people. I never said anything about being your roommate."
"Oh, come on, Wolf." Sonic said. "You must have had more fun in the past three days than you have in the past three years."
"This is the surface, hedgehog. There's no room for fun."
"That's what you think." Manic denied.
"Well, that's your loss." Sonic said. "Good luck living alone." He and the rest of the gang turned around leaving Wolf to contemplate in the middle of the road.
The gang reached to the very top of the car pile, but they stopped when they witnessed something unforgettable. Right before their eyes, there was a clear sign of devastation, a crater made of broken roads and buildings. Kipo climbed down into the crater to get a closer look, but there was no denying it.
"This… This was my burrow." Kipo said wit ha worried tone. "Whatever attacked must have…" She nearly broke down in tears.
"This is insane." Benson said. "I don't see any trace of humans left."
Those words somehow brought a new tone with Kipo. "No trace?" She rushed over to the side of the crater where she found what looked like a garage door. She pushed the button on the side and it slid open. She smiled when it did, which confused the others.
"I don't get it." Sonia said. "Why are you so happy?"
"Because there aren't any humans left!" Kipo shouted. "In case of emergency, all humans are supposed to evacuate here! We've been drilling that for a while! You'd think there'd be at least one human who escaped, but there isn't! So if they're not here…"
Sonic caught on. "Then maybe they went somewhere else."
"So that means our search isn't done yet." Sonia said. "Well, Kipo, we got you this far. I'd like to help you go further."
"And me." Manic said.
"Count me and Dave in too." Benson said.
"Yeah. If Manic's going, we are." Dave agreed.
"Guess I'm tagging along." Tails said.
"Me too." Everyone was surprised to hear Wolf's voice. She leaped from the top of the crater landing before everyone.
"I thought your work was done." Kipo said.
"It isn't, actually." Wolf said. "My job is to get you back to your people. If they're not here, then it's not done yet."
"Guess we're all in this together, huh?" Sonic asked. "Well, to the very end, right?"
"Right." Sonia agreed.
"Always." Manic agreed.
"To the very end." Kipo repeated.
Just as Kipo finished saying that, everyone noticed a slight change in the environment. The winds began to blow harder. Everyone gazed in suspicion while Wolf readied her staff. All the winds converged to the center of the crater and a green light emitted before everyone. What stood there was a transparent figure in a hood, a green anteater mute that Kipo instantly recognized.
"You're that oracle guy." Kipo said.
"Ora-what?" Dave asked.
The Oracle of Delphius cracked a smile gazing at everyone. "It is good to see you all finally came together."
"What's going on here?" Wolf asked. She pointed her deathstalker tail at the Oracle, but was surprised to see that it couldn't touch him. "Where are you?"
"Nowhere you can touch me," the Oracle said, "And frankly, nowhere that I'd like to be. But I digress. I'm projecting myself here because I sensed that the four of you—Kipo, Sonic, Sonia, and Manic—have synced up your emotions finally and became in harmony. Now, your destiny can begin."
"What destiny?" Sonic asked.
"The destiny that the four of you share." The Oracle answered. "I am called the Oracle of Delphius because I have a unique ability to see into the future. And in the future, I see you becoming the Council of Four. That's why I linked your dreams and let you tread on the path to finding each other."
"The Council of Four?" Manic asked. "What does that mean?"
"It means that together, you can accomplish a most special form of peace. When the four of you come together and stick true to yourselves, you will be able to create a grand peace between humans and mutes."
"Peace between humans and mutes?" Kipo asked in astonishment.
Wolf scoffed. "That's impossible. Why should we believe a word you say?"
"Because this is the alternative."
The Oracle waved his hand and right before everyone's eyes, the environment changed into a blazing orange. Everyone stared in horror as there was destruction and fire far as the eye can see. Luckily, that's where the vision ended and everyone found themselves back at the crater, but everyone was still startled.
"Dave, I'm scared." Benson said.
"Benson, we're all scared… um, except for me." Dave replied.
"What was that?" Tails asked.
"That was the only other future should things play differently." The Oracle responded. "In every possible future I could see, all I can see is pain, destruction, and ruin for both humans and mutes. No winner. Barely any survivors. But there is one future out of a million that's different, one where humans and mutes live in harmony. But that cannot be possible without the Council of Four."
"Question," Sonic said, "Does this have anything to do with why Scarlemagne is after us?"
"Scarlemagne is aware of the prophecy and wishes to manipulate it. If he captures the four of you, he believes he will be able to create a future where humans and mutes are together, but with mutes enslaving humans. That is not the result which I have foreseen and he will only make everything worse."
"So we have to make sure he doesn't get his paws on us." Manic said.
"Well, what about this?" Kipo asked as she reached into her father's bag. She pulled out the purple gem that glowed inside. "The Mod Frogs said Scarlemagne would want this too. They called it a Chaos Emerald. But I always read that emeralds were green."
"The term, emerald, is merely a title." The Oracle said. "Chaos Emeralds are rare. Only seven exist in the world, and they're incredibly powerful, especially when brought together. Scarlemagne wishes to collect them and use them for his own means. It's in your best interest to protect that emerald as hard as you can."
"All right." Kipo said putting the Chaos Emerald back into its bag. "You said that only we can make a good future, but that's vague. How do we do that?"
"You can start by seeking your father and the hedgehogs' mother." The Oracle said.
"Mother?" Sonia asked in surprise.
"The fourth hedgehog." Sonic surmised. "Where are they?"
The Oracle nodded. "Follow the trail of the mega-monkey that destroyed this burrow. Your journey will begin there, and you will find your parents in the same place." He began to flicker. "Oh, dear. I don't have long. Remember, be true to yourselves. Follow your hearts. Make the choices you know are right. If you do that, then our future is bright." He faded away into thin air leaving everyone surprised.
"Wow." Kipo said nearly at a loss of words. "That's… wow."
"You took the words out of my mouth." Sonic said. "We got a mom and there's a prophecy that says we have to save the world somehow."
Kipo took a breath. "Well, for now, let's focus on what we do know. If that oracle guy is right, then our parents, my dad and your mom, can be found in the same place. We just have to find that mega-monkey and maybe we'll get some answers."
"I still have reservations about all this prophecy mumbo jumbo," Wolf said, "But I suppose I should watch your backs since you seem too naïve to believe otherwise."
Everyone else agreed.
"All right then, everyone." Sonic held his hand out. His siblings and Kipo joined him in on it. "Let's make a vow."
"Our parents will be found." Kipo agreed.
Suddenly, the hedgehogs' medallions lit up and flashed to actual size. Everyone was surprised, but it was a good kind of astonished.
"Well, this still needs an explanation," Sonia said, "But for some reason, I feel like I'm in a musical mood."
"No complaints." Manic said readying his drumsticks.
"Yo, Kipo, you wanna join in?" Sonic asked. "Call it our first act as the Council of Four."
Kipo giggled before standing by Sonic's side. "Count me in."
"This, I gotta see" Tails said watching with Wolf, Mandu, Benson, and Dave.
Kipo and the Hedgehogs began playing upbeat music that matched along to their feelings.
Kipo and the hedgehogs:
We're all in this together
Birds of a feather, baby
We're all in this together
Making it better, yeah
From now on, it's all for one
And one for all
When any one of us needs the others' help
All they have to do is call
Brothers and sisters to the very end
And through it all, we're the best of friends
We're all in this together
Birds of a feather, baby
We're all in this together
Making it better, yeah
We're all in this together, whoa
We're all in this together
TOGETHER
Author's Note: So now, we're ready to begin. As you can see, I had to mend some details in the original prophecy to better fit this. Now, everyone's aware of the prophecy, the quest is about to begin, and Tails is included. This will be fun.
But coming up next, we'll be having a villains only chapter which will feature Scarlemagne and his own henchmen.
Any and all comments are welcome.
