Chapter 5

Emerald Forest

Falling, Pyrrha held up her shield in front of her face, smashing through several trees before landing on a large branch. Transforming her spear into a carbine rifle she starts surveying the area through the scope and spots Jaune falling down. Returning her weapon back to it's spear form, she tosses it towards Jaune pinning him to a tree through his hoodie.

"Thank you!" Jaune yells from his location.

Pyrrha called out waving her arm, "I'm sorry!"

She then climbed down in order to retrieve her weapon, as well as her potential partner.

Ruby touched down and sprinted through the underbrush, saying to herself, "Gotta find Yang. Gotta find Yang, gotta find Yang, gotta fiiiind…Yang!" Ruby screamed out the last part, hoping her sister was somewhere in the area.

"Ugh, this is bad, this is really bad! What if I can't find her? What if someone finds her first?" Ruby worriedly thought to herself.

"There's always Jaune. He's nice and funny! But I don't think he's good at fighting though. Johnny? He's okay I guess. What about Blake? So mysterious, so calm. Plus, she likes books! Well, then again, I'm not sure I'd be able to hold a conversation with her. Liu Kang seems too serious. Kung Lao? He's fun to talk with plus he seems to like his weapon just as much as I like Crescent Rose, well not on the same level but still…I'm getting of topic" Ruby groans still running.

"Let's see. Who else do I know in this school? There's Yang, Jaune, Blake…" As Ruby was still counting, she stumble upon Weiss walking through the forest. She skidded to a stop, wide blue eyes meeting silver.

The two stared at each other for a moment before Weiss frowned and turned the other way. "Wait, where are you going?" Ruby yelled out at her.

"We're supposed to be teammates…" Ruby said quietly.

Weiss pushed through the forest, hoping to find a suitable partner. She brushed leaves off of her dress, and looked up to see Jaune, pinned to a tree trunk by his hoodie from Pyrrha's spear. The young man was trying to free himself by pulling the weapon, but to no avail.

Noticing Weiss below him, he laughed sheepishly with a wave. Weiss simply turned back and dragged Ruby by her hood. "By no means does this make us friends."

"You came back!" Ruby cheered with joy as the pair disappeared into the brush.

Jaune yelled out, "Hey, wait! Come back! Who's gonna get me down from here?"

"Jaune?" Do you have any spots left on your team?" Pyrrha asked him appearing from the forest.

"Haha, very funny…" Jaune responded with a pout, but smiling kindly at her, which Pyrrha returned.

"This is so not my Day. Stupid landing strategy, now I can't find my glasses anywhere". Johnny cursed walking through the forest.

Walking a few meters he sees a Beowolf. The creature noticing him was getting ready to attack but before it could even move, a figure appeared, yelling, performed a flying kick to the Beowolf's head shattering it instantly.

Looking at the new arrival, Johnny recognized him to be Liu Kang. Groaning he says "Great, now I'm stuck being partners with Bruce Lee."

Rolling his eyes at Johnny's statement, Liu Kang starts walking deeper into the forest with his new partner tailing him.

"What's the hurry?" Ruby asked her apparent partner.

"I won't let my mission be delayed because you're too slow!" Weiss barked at her.

Weiss groaned. "I swear, if I get a bad grade because of you…"

Ruby suddenly was in front of her with an adorkable smile on her face, stunning the heiress.

"I'm not slow, see? You don't need to worry about me! Weiss, just because I don't exactly know how to deal with people doesn't mean I don't know how to take care of myself. You're about to see a whole different side of me today!" Ruby cheerily said to Weiss, holding her by the shoulder.

"And after it's all over, you're gonna be like "Wow! That Ruby girl is really, really cool and I wanna be her friend!" Ruby finished before zipping off.

Weiss groaned and shouted out, "Hey, we do need to stick together, you know? Come on, we're wasting time!"

She heard some rustling in the bushes around her, and glowing red peered from the foliage.

"Ruby?" Weiss called out, her hand reaching for her sword. Then she heard deep growling and snarling, and saw a Beowolf emerge from the bushes. The creature stood on its hind legs, long arms lined with bone spikes, and its face covered by a stark-white plate exposing its sinister red eyes.

"RUBY!" She called out one more time, as the pack rushed at her.

But suddenly, a bladed hat appeared out of nowhere slicing the heads of every Beowolf present before returning to it's owner's hand.

"It seems I made it just in time." Kung Lao said adjusting his hat.

"Say, do you by any chance not have a partner?" Weiss asked hoping she could leave Ruby.

"Oh no, I already have a partner." Kung Lao answered her, looking behind him.

As if on cue, Smoke starts walking towards the group.

Just then Ruby appeared in a Petal of Rose and a shocked expression.

"They're all dead?"

"Yes, thanks to him. Where were you?"

Weiss asked slightly annoyed.

"I was planning on ambushing the Grimms." Ruby said before turning to Kung Lao "Hey Lao, who's your friend?"

"I am Smoke, though you can call me Tomas" Smoke said.

"Nice to meet you Tomas, I'm Ruby and this is Weiss" she finished

"We need to find the relics. We've wasted enough time as it is." Weiss said

"Agreed, we should start moving." Smoke said as the group start walking into the forest.

MMM

"HELLOOOOO!" Yang yelled out into the distance as she walked through the forest, hoping someone would hear her.

"Is anyone out there? HELLOOOOOOOOO? I'm getting bored here." Yang loudly shouted out, but to no avail.

But she soon heard rustling in the bushes, and peered through the foliage. "Ruby, is that you?"

Yang looked up at a snarling noise, and answered herself, "Nope."

She rolled to the side, dodging a swing from an Ursa that lunged from the bushes. Yang activated her gauntlets and leapt backwards to dodge another swipe from the Grimm. She drew back her fist and unleashed a punch at the Ursa, and fired her gauntlets, sending it flying backwards. A second Ursa appeared, and Yang simply uppercutted it in the jaw and kicked, knocking it on its back.

"You by any chance happen to have seen a little girl in a red hood 'round here?" Yang jokingly asked them.

One of the Ursa simply roared in response and swiped its claws repeatedly at Yang. Dodging all of them, Yang just laughed. "Geez, you guys couldn't hit the right side of a…"

Yang stopped to notice a small strand of her blonde hair float in front of her and down to the grass. Yang clenched her fist and her eyes turned red. Nobody touched her hair. "You...You MONSTER!"

She exploded in a fireball of anger and burst toward the Grimm with her fists drawn back. She punched one Ursa and uppercutted it into the air. Firing behind her to boost herself forward, Yang unleashed a devastating combo of punches, killing the beast from blunt force, sending it through a bunch of trees trailing fire.

But then she heard a Ursa emerge from the brush. She looked angrily at her opponent and held her arms open, challenging it. "What?! You want some too?!"

The Grimm roared, but a metallic shink was heard, and the Grimm collapsed, with Blake standing behind it, retrieving her pistol's blade from the Grimm's body, she smiled at Yang.

Before Yang could say anything, Kitana and Sonya start walking towards the duo having witnessed their performance.

"Never thought I would see someone going berserk over hair." Sonya said typing at her gauntlet

"It's not just any hair, it's my hair." Yang said with a pout.

"Regardless, your skill was quite impressive." Turning towards her partner Kitana asks "Do you know where we are?"

Using her gauntlet, Sonya creates a hologram map of the forest before adding "We're about 300 meters away from the relic site. If we head North we'll be there in no time."

"Once again, Vale's sorcerery is proving to be very useful." Kitana said.

"For the last time Kitana it's not magic, it's state of the arts technology." Sonya said as she starts leading the group through the forest.

Killing the last remaining Beowolf, Sub Zero was about continuing his journey, but then he started hearing the sound of fighting.

Rushing to where the sound was coming from, Sub Zero was greeted with the site of many dead Grimm and a lone figure who had just ripped a Beowolf in half.

"A Shirai Ryu? I thought the clan was dead." Sub Zero said getting Scorpion's attention.

Facing the Assassin Scorpion said "You are not Sub Zero."

"I am his brother. What do you know about about him?" Sub Zero said getting into a fighting stance.

"I killed him and I will kill every Lin Kuei for my clans death." Scorpion said getting into his own stance.

With his anger rising from Scorpion statement Sub Zero prepares himself to kill his brothers killer.

Without uttering another word both fighters charge each other with the intent of ending the other's life.
