In those unguarded moments, late at night, when he was alone and could allow himself the luxury of considering whether or not he was being honest with himself, Ryo had sometimes debated whether he was right in keeping up what he knew deep down was merely the pretence of being straight.
He'd thought his life would probably be easier if people saw him that way, because then he wouldn't have to deal with all the prejudice and discrimination that came with the alternative. Maybe he'd even meet a nice girl, someone he could feel reasonably comfortable with. He might eventually get married, have children, and if not, he could always blame the pressures of his job.
And maybe he could have lived his life that way, he just hadn't counted on meeting someone like Dee, someone who'd steamrollered his way over all the boundaries and walls Ryo had built up to protect himself from the things it was simpler for him to ignore.
Even then, he might have been okay working with his devilishly handsome partner if Dee hadn't been so determined to seduce him. From the first kiss a fire had been ignited inside him, and since then every kiss, every touch, had only added fuel to the flames. He hadn't wanted to fall for his partner's charms, too afraid of what that might mean to both their friendship and their working relationship, but he hadn't been able to help himself.
Beside him, Dee gave a happy sigh and pulled him closer, nuzzling into the side of his neck. "Don't get any better than this," he murmured against Ryo's skin. "All that time thinkin' I had it made, and I had no idea love could be like this. Never imagined I'd be lucky enough to find someone like you."
