Finding Someone Who Doesn't Belong Here.
Hello, I hope you enjoyed the last chapter heres another, this one is long because I kinda just kept writing. i'm not used to writing cannon characters but I hope I did them justice. I do not own Bloodborne or RWBY and they belong to their respective studios.
Bold is for emphasis on an action or word
Italics are for thoughts.
After the initiation ceremony the team of RWBY was gathered from their individual rooms by Ozpin himself, much to both team RWBY's and Miss.Goodwitch dismay. With each room he arrived and gave the slightest knock before entering basically unannounced, Mis.Goodwitch's scowl deepened every time he did, seeing no reason in his doing so.
"Dude you don't just walk into a girls room without knocking!" Yang yelled out as she threw her pillow at Ozpin's face which didn't even twitch as the pillow bounced off.
"I did. You must've been too absorbed into your music to hear. Now if you're done, get dressed in your combat ready clothes and meet me at my office." Ozpin said with not even a slight twinge of annoyance on his usual deadpan face. He turned around and walked to Ruby's room to do the same thing
"Y-yes sir. I'll be right there!" Ruby scrambled out of her bed, landing face first on the floor with her legs and lower half still on the bed. Ruby gave her best salute and tried to get up at the same time.
"At ease." Ozpin had a little bit of amusement in his voice as he left to Blakes room. He gave her room a soft knock and then opened the door to see her book closed and her looking at him expectantly. He explained his request and she just nodded, putting her book away and getting out of bed as Ozpin left.
He then arrived at Weiss's room, knocking softly before entering, only to see her standing in front of the window, gazing up at the shattered moon above them. She gasped as she turned around, briefly showing shock as well as an exasperated "Sir?" and then regained her composure. He began explaining his request and then bowed his head respectfully to the heiress before leaving to his office.
Once they were geared up for an expedition and in Ozpin's office. He pulled up Emerald Forest, and some cameras showed flashes of blue and red light and loud explosions as well as a lot of smoke and black ash from grimm. "You will be going here to find out what is doing this and report back here and tell me what you saw. Do not engage with whatever is doing this." And with that they were sent on their way into Emerald forest.
After being dropped off by a bullhead Ruby became nervous, Weiss doubted her ability and was still being difficult, this was their first mission and it wasn't even a day after initiation and it was late at night. It was their first real mission from Ozpin himself! It was sprung on them but Ozpin said that it was a mission to check on something in the Emerald forest and from the tone of his voice it was urgent that they find out what.
"So what are we actually looking for here?" Yang had to ask, Oz suddenly knocks on their door and asks if they could do a job for him, right then in the dead of night, and for some reason it couldn't wait and then has little to no details for them other than to patrol the forest and look for something killing tons grimm and causing explosions.
"We don't know, Ozpin just said there was something in the forest killing a bunch of grimm. And here we are to identify whatever is doing this and come back to Beacon, tell him personally what we saw. He said specifically not to fight unless we have to." Ruby shifted uneasily, why was the forest so much creepier at night?
Yang responded by lamenting their uneventful assignment. "So we're meant to just scout? Boring." The group was walking through the forest rather casually, looking around for anything out of the ordinary, or more out of the ordinary than this was to begin with. It was eerie for the forest to be so quiet, its as if it was empty of life
"Yeah, this is strange. Why haven't we seen any grimm since we've gone out? Surely this isn't that efficient at killing grimm." Weiss asked practically, she gazed to the left and saw what looked like… burn marks?
Blake had been silent the whole time but even she was unsettled… but not for any reason the others had. It was quiet, way too quiet. "Guys listen." Blake spoke rarely but when she did the others tended to listen well.
Yang was the only one to voice her confusion. "Listen to what?" Her expression matched her tone as she turned to blake.
"Exactly… don't you think it's too quiet?" Blake said in response. Weiss was about to tell her teammates about the burns that could be interesting but before she could there was a BOOM that echoed through the forest followed by an explosion of fire, black ash-like smoke rose into the air in front of the moon and lastly a hollow noise of something metal sliding against other metal and finally a clasp. Birds flew from their perches, rightfully disturbed by the noise that strained the ears of the group. Blake seemed to be wincing harder at the loud noise in comparison to her comrades.
The team of four readied their weapons just in case and ran towards where they heard the explosion and found… nothing? But at the same time it was like they came way too late, fresh blood splattered up against a tree signifying that someone had definitely been killed by grimm yet around the blood and the area around it looked like something out of an old history book with the ground itself was torn up with smoking craters, strewn rocks, burnt grass and fresh dirt flown nearly everywhere.
Ruby looked to the source of the blood and saw that there was a body at the base of the tree, facing to the east where the moon was piercing through the forest. There was someone wearing a top hat, a cloth bandana and very strange but carefully decorated clothing. They really looked like some old victorian warrior gentleman. That was honestly the second weirdest thing about them strangely enough. The roots were blocking full vision of the person and they were perfectly still.
A sense of dread swept over the team as they thought they were just a little too late. They approached to find a woman laying back against the base of the tree with the top hat bent down with her head, hiding her face. She was sitting on a large silver pipe looking thing that was just as engraved as the woman's leather she wore. The group did not know that at this time the person's eyes had gently opened. Ruby inched closer, reaching out before her arm was grabbed by Yang who shook her head. "Yang she could be alive even if she's this hurt."
"She could be dangerous too Ruby" Even at the fact that Yang had said Ruby looked at her sister, giving her a worried look before Yang sighed and let go of her sister's arm. Just as she went to reach for the woman's left arm when the top hat rose to reveal the woman's face and her milky blue eyes sharply gazing at Ruby who stumbled back out of shock while the rest of her team readied their weapons.
"She's right. You always make sure the corpse you find is really dead… made that mistake myself once." The voice was gentle and soothing despite the meanings behind the words she spoke. She didn't move, she simply stared at all of them, gazing at them for what they truly were, one was still a child yet she held the most intricate weapon from a glance, two were young adults and one… had blood on her hands, however faint.
"What are you doing here?" Weiss asked with suspicion in her voice.
"Hunting." The person said, as if that explained everything.
Weisses look of confusion and suspicion only grew "You're… hunting? Like for animals? If your going to lie you might as well be convincing"
"Bold of you to call someone you don't know a liar. There are all sorts of new prey here… they provide a challenge with the way they… study and learn. One of those bear beasts even managed to slice me after I had gotten comfortable evading they're standing swipes, the last one humbled when it got on all four legs to extend his range. I still bested the beast but the fact that it adapted at all surprised me in the heat of the moment" The person spoke like some old lady, with a very posh and polite manner of speech and an odd accent that none of the young ladies before her could pin down as to what accent it was.
"Wait, you're hunting a Ursa?" Yang couldn't help but wonder. It wasn't abnormal for a huntsman to kill grimm that had strayed from the pack but in Emerald forest it was basically a prowling ground for a horde of different types of grimm.
"Is that what they're called? Those and whatever other beast I've come across. I was just laying here, getting a bit of rest when you four came" The person was so odd, yet they didn't show any hostility. She was just there saying that she had been hunting any grimm she could find in the forest. Her hair was blonde and pulled into a ponytail, although the golden hair was stained with spots of dry blood.
"Are you insane?! A hoard of grimm is no joke. You've been hurt and you're just talking to us as if you're not bleeding out with no aura!." Ruby had a panicked tone in her voice as she put her scythe away and came close to the person who quickly threw her legs over the root on her right and stood up before Ruby could get to her.
"Who said I was hurt?" She simply said as she made distance between her and Ruby.
"Then whose blood is that?" Blake spoke for the first time, an edge as well as suspicion in her voice with the subtle accusation that the stranger was hiding something
"Mine. But I'm well, I assure you." The woman responded but what she said made no sense to Ruby or her team. This strange, out of place and time woman was saying the impossible.
"I don't believe you. With this much blood someone should be gravely hurt or worse if you're fine someone else isn't. Either tell us what happened here so we can find them or we'll make you." Yang put the threat in the air but the person's gentle smirk never faded, it reminded her of Ozpin and it kinda pissed her off.
"You and Ruby, was it? are kind… I can tell just by this conversation. You must be in training.. because despite your finely crafted weapons you act far too young to be hunters." The young woman who spoke still as if there was no danger or severity to the situation. Yang's eyes changed to red as she walked up to this mystery woman only for her to get up and off the strange silver cylinder she was sitting on. She lifted the thing off the ground with one hand and revealed it to be a cannon?! She grabbed something else from behind where the cannon was placed, it was a strange looking hammer. Everything was strange about this woman, even her weapons looked old fashioned albeit intricate.
She walked back before running into the forest. Yang used Ember Celica to shoot after the mysterious woman. The strange woman turned around fast, dodging left, right, back to make space in whatever way from Yang. The woman dodged when she caught up and kept running from her onslaught of punches, the others were slow to react but they ran after Yang and the stranger.
This woman looked perfectly comfortable handling her weapons with one hand each even with their size and possible weight. Yet as Yang chased after her, throwing punch after punch the more it became apparent that she didn't want to fight. It made Yang's job easier for sure.
The reason behind why the stranger didn't want to fight was because she had enough blood on her hands, including two children she couldn't save. She wouldn't ever willingly kill someone sane much less an innocent child over something so minuscule like them not understanding the situation. Gascoigne's children's dead, frozen in time faces flashed through her mind and all that she could feel was regret ever talking to those little girls.
Ruby, Blake, and Weiss ran after the fighting duo with Ruby yelling after her sister. "Yaaang!!! We aren't supposed to fight!"
Weiss did the same with different wording. "I thought you had a level head! You idiot!"
Back to Yang, she was getting more and more irritated as not a single of her strikes were landing. Now the woman had a different look, the sharp gaze she had when she had first noticed RWBY was back, a focused gaze. Even though she didn't want to fight she didn't say a word of protest or tried to reason with Yang. The odd woman pushed the back of the hammer to her shoulder, pulling the hammer of the hammer back to ignite the weapon with an odd blue flame. It reminded Yang of Nora's hammer in a way.
She thought that this meant that the stranger was finally going to try and hit her back when she suddenly started running to a different part of the forest, taking her gaze off Yang but before Yang could capitalize on it she dodge to the right and Yang punched a tree.
The strange woman ran in the same direction until the forest opened up into a field with an Ursa, four Beowulfs, and two Boarbatusks. The Grimm turned to look at them and Yang stopped at the edge of the forest while the woman charged head first into the group that was previously fighting for territory. Was she suicidal!? She was beginning to think they had stumbled across some insane woman with a death wish, who dressed like she was in the past.
Yet she looked just as comfortable as ever. The smile had faded from her face completely and that sharp gaze looked less insane and more downright murderous. Only at that moment did the strangely cautious grimm wake up from they're gaze and see the threat right in front of them. It was too late for one of the Beowulfs, it got smashed to the floor by the woman's running overhead strike that caused a blue, smokey explosion to blow the grim to pieces.
The Ursa took a swipe at the woman only for a shining cannonball to tear into the Grimm's stomach, knocking it back and to the floor before it exploded into a ball of flame, leaving nothing left after the moment.
Yang stood still, watching the hunter's efficiency. The rest of team RWBY heard the cannon shot and rushed to where Yang was currently standing.
Ruby ran and then pulled Yang into a forceful hug. "Don't run off like that again!" Yang smiled back at Ruby, her eyes back to their usual lilac. Yang stared back out into the field and at the battle before them, although to call it a battle wasn't right.
"Where's that strange woman?" Weiss asked nobody in particular as that was answered by a much quieter but still loud explosion in the field, catching the rest of team RWBY's attention.
After that cannon shot the woman just dropped the obscene weapon to the ground. It bent the ground under it after only a four foot fall, showing its weight. The woman pulled out an engraved and heavily decorated silver flintlock pistol. The woman refused to two hand her weapon, opting to one hand a firearm and her hammer. The two Boarbatusks began charging while the remaining three Beowulfs circled around the woman to get her from behind to try and take advantage of an opening.
The Boarbatusks began rolling, trying a pincer attack on the woman. When the came after her, she brought her hammer back and then slammed it just in front of the rolling Boarbatusks, they both were flown to opposing sides with two massive chunks taken out of the grimm, one's left side of its face was completely gone while the other Boarbatusk had it's right side of its body was just… gone.
Black blood painted the hunter who was grinning with that same sharp, murderous gaze. The blood began to evaporate but she didn't turn to face the Beowulfs, the grimm all three lunged at the woman.
"Watch out!!!" Ruby yelled in warning to the woman. The woman didn't move, the claws of the Beowulfs sank deep into her calves and her right arm. Why didn't she move? Did she think aura was going to protect her? the clothing was ripped into and blood sprang out from the woman, painting the grass. Yet she did not fall as the three Beowulfs were now in front of her. Her blood seeped out of her wounds, even with her raked arm she calmly fought the pain. Raising her pistol and shooting the one that tried to capitalize first on her weakness.
The first one fell back a bit, it's skull fracture as it bent down. The woman dashed forward, if you blinked you would have missed it. She pushed her fist deep into the Beowulf's chest, lifting it up and then ripped out its insides without any precision. While the first one was on it's back but seemingly still alive, one could see her blood flowing back into her wounds and sealed themselves up.
The two other Beowulfs tried to take the opening they were given but it was much too quick. The woman had already been done with the first for now and slammed the beast's skull down to the floor. It's mask was in very poor repair, but before she could finish it off the third and final one tried to jump her and dig it's teeth into her. It was met with a thrust into its chest, burning the beast from the inside out with the furnace built into the hammer. It's usual deep red insides turned into an almost disturbing faded blue before falling to its side, dead.
The last two were still recovering from their just inflicted injuries. The one that she had ripped out its insides was still alive but it hadn't gotten back up. She took the one that seemed to be recovering from the blow to the head, only for it to be crushed and burned under the slam of the furnace hammer. She approached the last one, it was on death's door but she wouldn't take any risks. She finished the last by crushing its head to guarantee that it was dead.
Her gaze turned back to RWBY and she put the gun on her hip, pointing at them with her left hand. Her voice was loud to cover the distance between them but she wasn't overly so. "Now do you believe that it was my blood?!" She looked like she was in pain. Yang, Blake, Weiss, and Ruby had varying looks of shock, disbelief, and even anger but the woman did not know why. They watched her pull something out of a satchel and stab it in her leg. She gasped but shook it off as she let a smile slip across her face before she shook her head again, frowning before she picked up her cannon, turned and ran into the forest.
Thank you for reading. I hope you enjoyed the chapter, expect the next one pretty soon. I do take in every little bit of advice I see and I read every review. all I ask is that people recognize my inexperience and willingness to learn. I do have a question, do people actually see their pms? I sent one to some of you who gave me advice, reviews, and questions but i'm not sure if you've seen it. The next chapters will be more character with less fighting as the story continues it's course.
