Author's Note: Welcome back to another installment of I Just Wonder!
Immediately after writing and posting the first chapter, I went to work on the second chapter.
One thing I forgot to mention in the author's note for the previous chapter is that Aurora's animated homeland, Auradon is a nod to the Descendants series. And speaking of Descendants, Aurora's live action face claim is Dove Cameron (Mal). Prince Philip's live action face claim is Tom Holland. For Maleficent, it's Eva Green. And for the three fairies, Flora is Gwendoline Christie ("Wednesday), Fauna is Sarah Jessica Parker ("Hocus Pocus"), and Merryweather is Christina Ricci ("Wednesday").
Thank you to Crimson Commander688 for the review and favorite, plus retro mania and OmniIBIBUltraInstinctGodzilla for the favorite and follow. I hope you enjoy this new chapter.
Without further ado, let's get into it!
Sleeping Beauty and Enchanted belong to Disney. OCs belong to retro mania and me.
Chapter 2
Aurora continues to fall, screaming. She lands in water and floats. She finds herself surrounded by sparkling dust. Then a dot lands on Aurora's chest.
"What is this?" Aurora asks, confused and fearful. Then one by one, more dots land all over her, covering up the princess. Everything changes, as if she were going from two to three dimensions.
Suddenly, a magical force quickly propels her towards a portal. Aurora is lying face down. Very few rays of light are peeking through the holes and shines on her face a bit. She lifts her head up and looked around. Aurora looks down and inspects herself, seeing that she's unharmed. However, the change Aurora noticed is that she's not a cartoon but a live-action girl! The sixteen year old looked up and reached out her hand, touching the lights. Aurora realizes that she's turning upside down. She leans in and peeks through a small hole, she could only see some strange lights. Aurora soon pushes the portal door open and aside.
Emerging from the hole, Aurora nervously takes in her surroundings. Shocked, she finds herself in a strange land with neon signs and lights, the hustle and bustle and commotion, in a place called Las Vegas, Nevada!
People walked by, giving Aurora odd looks.
Looking around, Aurora decides to take a hint and climb out of the man hole. She trips at first, but then gets back up and quickly runs across the street, avoiding traffic.
Horns blared and shouts echoed as she ran, but Aurora finally gets on the sidewalk. Immediately, she gets swallowed up in the masses.
"Excuse me! Excuse me!" Aurora called, as she struggled to get through.
"I'm trying to find the castle!"
Alas, no one seems to help her. The passerbys simply ignore her.
Once the crowd mass gets smaller, Aurora continues to call out for help.
"Hey, Brent. Check out Disney Princess Barbie!" A guy taunted.
"Where's the castle, honey?"
"I don't know," Aurora answered.
As she walked on, she looks around, her heart racing. This is all new to her and this was not how she imagined her birthday celebration.
"Flora, Fauna, Merryweather!" Aurora called out. "Where are you?"
"Philip!"
More people gave Aurora strange looks.
As the princess took in her surroundings, she sees various hotels, casinos and a restaurant: Casino Royale, Flamingo, Caesar's Palace, Riviera, Hard Rock Hotel and Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville. She even spotted the Eiffel Tower and a Paris Air Balloon.
Finally, Aurora comes across a building with a bright, neon sign with a clown holding an eaten lollipop. It read: "CIRCUS, CIRCUS HOTEL AND CASINO."
"Ooh, a jester!" Aurora exclaimed, happily. "Maybe he can help me find my aunts and Philip."
She goes inside.
Once she's in the hotel and casino, Aurora is amazed by the interior design. True to its name, the lobby's décor had a carnival-circus theme. There were slots, arcades, a buffet area, a carousel (in which Aurora marveled at the horses), a drink bar, and an area for the Adventuredome Theme Park. There's a total of 25 rides. In addition, Aurora saw advertisements for free circus acts.
To Aurora, this place seemed like a wonderland of amusements.
As she explored the building, Aurora bumps into Oswald, the circus ringmaster.
"Oh, I'm sorry!" Aurora exclaimed. "I didn't see you!"
"Young lady, where have you been?" Oswald asked sternly.
"I, I—just got here." Aurora explained, stammering. "I arrived from Auradon and I've been wandering around in this strange land, lost, and…"
"You're supposed to go on in a couple of minutes." Oswald cuts her off. "Come with me, now."
"But…" Before Aurora could say another word, Oswald pulls her along, taking her to an area, where all the circus performers are.
As Oswald and Aurora walk through a hallway, Aurora sees various performers: jugglers, lion tamers, trapeze artists, trick riders, acrobats, clowns, knife throwers, stilt walkers, etc. Everyone is going to and from.
Finally, Oswald escorts Aurora to a dressing room. He opens the door and shoves Aurora in. A female tightrope walker looks up.
"Here we are," said Oswald. "Holly will help you get ready for a tightrope walking act."
"Please, sir. I'm not a performer, I'm a princess…"
"Not another word," Oswald interrupts. "Now get ready and get to work."
He shuts the door behind him.
Aurora sighs.
"Are you okay?" Holly asks.
Aurora turns around.
"No, but I will be. Hello there," She said with a small smile.
A/N: And that's the end of the second chapter!
Aurora's transformation from animated to live action is a callback to Giselle's transformation from Enchanted.
The catcall directed at Aurora is nod to Legally Blonde, when Elle Woods arrives at Harvard Law School and a guy calls her "Malibu Barbie", asking Elle where's the beach.
I looked at the movie 21 to describe Aurora seeing all the places in Las Vegas.
The ringmaster's name Oswald is a nod to Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, the first cartoon character created by Walt Disney & Ub Iwerks in 1927 for Universal Pictures.
Aurora getting mistaken for a circus performer is a reference to the original draft of Enchanted, when Giselle arrives in New York and is mistaken for a stripper for a bachelor party.
Up next, we're introduced to Jack and Annie Radcliffe, the Robert and Morgan Phillip of the story. Then Holly helps Aurora get for a tightrope walking performance.
More to come!
