Katara

I remember the Legend as well as I remember my own name. Water. Earth. Fire. Air. Long ago, the four nations lived together in peace and harmony. Then, everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked. Only the Avatar, master of all four elements, could stop them. But just when the world needed him most, he vanished.

That is, until my brother Sokka and I discovered him. Aang, a 12 year old Air Bender who's been frozen in an iceberg this past century. He had no idea of the war or how the world is now, but he had a quick introduction when the Prince of the Fire Nation showed up, and nearly burned our village in the Southern Water Tribe down before Aang gave himself up willingly. Sokka and I were able to rescue him, and now we're traveling with him to the North Pole, so he can master the other three elements and stop the war.

Our quest is long, and hard. I'm only 14, completely untrained in Waterbending myself since the Fire Nation wiped them all out of The Southern Water Tribe before I was even born, and I've never been away from the South Pole before. But I think of what the Fire Nation's taken from me: My Tribe's Culture, My mother's life, my father's presence: he's been gone fighting the war for years. The war will be long and hard, but The Fire Nation need to be stopped. When I need to picture who I'm fighting, I just think of the Fire Prince who attacked us.

Prince Zuko, I heard his men call him. He was tall, strong, and powerful. He would have been handsome, if not for the scar that took up most of one side of his face and the pale and shaved scalp except for a ponytail on top. Everything about him was intimidating, but I couldn't show fear in front of the children I was protecting. Though As hard as I tried, when his gaze fell on me, I couldn't quite keep my knees from shaking.

We need to win this war. The world needs to be put back into balance. And I need sleep not haunted by dreams of a strong and powerful Fire Prince standing on the shores of my village again.
