Where the Lines Overlap
All We Know
~~ Carlisle ~~
Through eagle eyes
Humm. The platelets are not at an acceptable level. I'll have to ask for a new test to confirm these results. It seems to be an infection by…
The sound of loud laughter disrupts my attention and I lose my train of thought. A satisfied smile stretches my lips though, as I raise my head and try to concentrate on the joyful noise.
I love having these kids around. It makes the house more colorful, happier.
Not that without them it would be unhappy. Far from it. I'm a very happy husband and father. But I've always wished I would've had a house full of kids, full of their laughter and joy, full of the light aura they provide.
Unfortunately, having Edward was already very laborious.
Esme had to go through a long treatment to be able to get pregnant, and posteriorly, a very difficult pregnancy as it was. After our boy was born we had to accept the hard truth… another baby would take her life.
So we embraced what was given to us, a small family, but also a very united one. In the end, our only child, who has always been a very outgoing and friendly boy, brought his closest friends into our lives, and it was like I had other kids.
I sigh, feeling a little tired from the hours I have just spent reading reports and deciding the best approach to treat my patients. I get up from my chair and go to the window, just to recharge by seeing the kids having fun at the pool.
I smile when I spot them in the water. The girls, Bella, Alice, and Rosalie, are chatting and sunbathing. The boys, Emmet, Jacob, and Jasper, are laughing and talking merrily, carefree as teenagers should be.
I don't see my son at first, but as I slowly move to the other side of the window, I locate him at the corner of the porch, watching his friends intently.
I sigh worriedly.
He's not looking at his friends. He's staring at his best friend, and his facial expression tells me he's battling with himself.
As I see him entering the house I get away from the window and go to the kitchen to meet him.
When I arrive there I find him looking aimlessly at the inside of the fridge.
"The answer is not in there."
He visibly sighs, closes the fridge door, and turns to me. I heave a weighted breath as I perceive his countenance. He's sad.
"Am I that obvious?" He asks ironically while sitting on one of the stools.
I sit on one beside him.
"Well, for me, yes. But I know everything." I shrug.
"Why does it have to be so difficult, Dad?"
"Son, growing up is difficult. Being in love is just part of the process…"
"But why did I have to fall for him?" By his reply and the way his voice falters, I notice he's a little angry too. "Couldn't it be for another person?"
"Do you think that, If you had fallen for another person, it would've been any easier?" I ask calmly, inciting his logical thinking.
Edward is a very rational boy, but since he found out about his feelings for Jasper he's been distraught and a little incoherent. It's understandable given his predicament.
He exhales heavily after carding his fingers through his messy hair. When he looks at me, his eyes are glossy and deep gray, screaming evidence of how distressed he is.
"I don't think I could've fallen for another person…" He admits wholeheartedly, and I feel, once more, strongly proud of the man he's becoming. He is conscious and true to himself. "I wish I could have, but I know it's just wishful thinking. It has always been supposed to be him… he's always been the most important person to me…" He shrugs, his pained countenance giving away his helplessness. "What am I gonna do, Dad? I need to do something."
"First of all, you must try to remain calm. You're letting the despair take you, Edward, and it's not gonna get any better if you give in to anxiety."
"How can I remain calm?" The strain in his voice is palpable. "I look at him and my heart threatens to jump out of my chest. He touches me innocently, as he's always done our entire lives, and suddenly I'm trembling and blushing uncontrollably. He talks to me about his girlfriend and all I want to do is scream at him to shut up." He's breathless now, and his hands are grasping his hair. "He's gonna notice it, Dad, he's gonna find out and… I'm gonna lose him."
Before I can say anything he lowers his hands to his lap and slumps his shoulders, bending his head in clear defeat.
My heart tightens in my chest, and there's nothing I want more than to be able to lessen the hurt he's been facing for almost two months. Unfortunately, all I can do is support and advise him.
I place my hand at the base of his neck and squeeze gently.
"You're not gonna lose him." I affirm, secure of my words. "Jay is your best friend, and he's a very good one. You two have this deep connection that I've never seen before between other people. And he's not a judgmental person."
"He's not." Edward agrees without changing his stance. "But then again he's never had a boy longing for him." He looks at me and I can see how truly scared he is. "Don't you think he'll feel weird and uncomfortable once he gets to know that the person he trusts the most wants something from him that he can never give?"
"Son…"
"He'll hate me, he'll be disgusted by me, Dad."
I straighten up and turn his stool until he has his body turned completely to me.
"Edward, look at me." He does as I say. "I strongly doubt that Jasper is this kind of person. But, honestly, if he is… then he doesn't deserve any feelings you have for him. Not even your friendship. Do you understand what I'm saying?"
He nods, but I can see he's hesitant.
"Now, you have two options. You can either tell him the truth…" He starts to shake his head and his eyes are huge. "Listen to me." I speak a little firmer. "You can either open up to him and see what happens, or you can keep this to yourself and try to overcome it. I think that the former is the most intelligent thing to do, but I'll support whatever you decide, no matter what."
He takes a deep breath, and it's obvious how uncertain he is… My anguish spikes, because I know there's not much more I can do besides remaining by his side. But I wish I could simply give him what he wants like I used to when he was a kid.
As he clearly prepares himself to say something, I notice someone entering the kitchen.
Edward's whole stance changes abruptly. He straightens up and squares his shoulders, his face assuming a serenity that is far from what I know he's containing inside.
I don't have to look behind me to know that Jasper just came in.
"Hey E, what's taking you so long?" The boy I saw growing up in my yard, that I have as a second son, asks softly to his best friend.
As he comes to my line of sight I notice that the look on his face is cautious. I think he noticed something.
"I'm sorry, am I interrupting?" He asks looking at me.
I smile. I really like how caring and respectful he is.
"No, Jay. I was just talking to Edward about some issues, but it's nothing serious."
"Uh, I can…" He points to the door behind him with his thumb above his shoulder.
"No need." I hurry a little to tranquilize him. "Edward and I can talk later." I look at my son pointedly before standing up and he nods slightly. "I'll be in my office if you boys need me."
Both of them nod and I retreat to the hall, leaving them alone. But I don't proceed to my office.
For some reason that, at that moment, is beyond me, I want to listen to their interaction, so I stop ten feet away from the kitchen door and listen carefully.
"You're okay?" Jay's voice is worried.
"Yeah, I'm fine." My son is a terrible liar. His voice is completely vacillating.
Jay huffs in an obvious sign of skepticism. It doesn't surprise me that he calls Edward's bluff next, he knows him almost as well as I do.
"You're anything but fine, E." He affirms with certainty and I smile automatically. "What's wrong?"
"Nothing."
There's a moment of silence and I risk peeking just a little. I need to see them to gauge their moods.
Edward is intently looking at the floor, showing to anybody with eyes that "nothing" couldn't be further from what's happening. Jasper is intently looking at him with a deep crease on his forehead. I can't see his eyes from where I'm standing, but I have the impression his gaze is caring.
Just then he places his hand on my son's shoulder, and I can see Edward shuddering slightly.
"Whatever it is, you can tell me." Jay affirms, and his tone confirms the caring I thought I could have seen in his gaze.
Uncertainly and very slowly, Edward raises his head and looks at him.
"I'm a little… sad. But I don't wanna talk about it. Not now."
"Okay." Jay accepts softly and then a faint smile crosses his face. "Do you need a hug?" His tone is playful but I can sense the seriousness of his offer. He's trying to comfort Edward even though he doesn't know what he's going through.
He doesn't wait for my son's answer. He ignores, seemingly unaware, Edward's hesitance, and pulls him by the arms, circulating his torso firmly. Edward remains a little stiff for a split second but soon reciprocates the gesture.
And as I see them together, I have this feeling that tells me there's something more than friendship linking the two of them…
But I can't be sure.
Edward is the first to let go of the contact, probably feeling as if he's taking advantage of the situation, if I'm reading correctly his gestures and facial expression. Jay acts naturally as if nothing much had happened.
"Better?" He asks smiling broadly to his best friend.
The smile that crosses my son's face is brilliant and spontaneous. The glint in his eyes is so elucidative that I don't know how Jasper doesn't get what is going on right there.
"Yeah."
"So c'mon. Let's go outside. It's no fun without you."
I hide myself before they turn, feeling a little like an intruder, peeking at their moment. But I had to do that, and it was good, it made it possible for me to realize that Jasper cares a lot for my son, a fact that I've known all along, but there's something else…
Maybe I'm wrong, maybe I'm just hoping Edward gets what he wants but… I have this impression…
I'll pay more attention to their interaction from now on.
.
.
.
"Mr. C!" Jay's voice reaches me as I sit on the sofa, ready to read the new article on endocarditis. "Mr. C, please, hurry!"
I throw the papers on the coffee table and stand up immediately, certain that something bad has just happened since his voice is so tense. He calls me out a couple more times as I follow his voice to the porch, and he is preparing to scream for me again as I cross the threshold.
"What happened?" I ask as I see him kneeling on the floor next to a senseless Edward.
I hurry to kneel beside my son and take his hand on mine, checking his pulse at his wrist.
"He wasn't feeling very well and we were coming from the pool to drink some water then he just…" Jay sighs nervously. "He just passed out. Is he gonna be okay?"
His pulse is weak and his face is pale and clammy. His breathing is almost regular, however, and after I check his pupils and make sure their reflexes are normal, I know it's nothing alarming.
"Yes." I assure. "Can you go to my office and pick up my briefcase?"
Jay nods already getting up from the floor, and he hurries inside the house as if every second is crucial.
Due to my suspicion, I check the weather temperature on my mobile.
96.8 °F. It's really hot today.
I take the opportunity to check Edward's skin and lips. He seems to have had heat exhaustion but fortunately, he's not dehydrated.
"Here." Jay hands me my medical bag and sits near Edward's head.
"Sit by his feet and put them on your lap, will you?" I request as I pick up the smelling salts. "A little higher." I instruct while I open the vase and position it right below my son's nose.
"He's so cold..." I can tell that Jasper is scared by the way his voice slightly wavers.
"His blood pressure is probably low, Jay. It's past 96 Fahrenheit and Edward is very sensitive to extreme temperatures. I suspect he fainted because it's really hot today, but he'll wake up just now."
And as soon as my words are out, Edward is coming back to his senses. I notice Jay sighing heavily and it's clear he is relieved. He looks attentively at my son's face as he opens his eyes slowly, obviously a little confused.
"Jazz?" He asks in a weak voice, looking for Jasper. "What happened?" He asks as his eyes find him.
The smile on Jasper's lips is soft as he answers in a tone that is saturated with caring.
"Thank God." He murmurs. "You fainted because of the heat. How do you feel?"
My presence is acknowledged by my son as he looks at me before he tries to straighten up. I help him sit.
"I feel… Funny." He frowns. "I'm kinda weak and dizzy, my legs and arms feel a little wobbly".
"Let me check your blood pressure." I say as I take the digital monitor and stethoscope from my bag.
My suspicion is confirmed by the reading.
"It's a little low, and considering your symptoms I say you had a heat exhaustion, son. And you seem to be still a little affected by the hot weather." He nods slowly while Jay is intently listening to what I'm saying. "Jay, can you help him to his room?" I ask looking at him and he nods. I look back at Edward. "You're gonna lay down and no more pool today or tomorrow. And you need to drink lots of liquids before you get dehydrated. I'll make us some cold juice." I help him stand and Jay supports him carefully as he sways slightly. "Turn on the AC and place a pillow below his feet, Jay."
"I'll do that." He assures me before he takes one of Edward's arms and places it around his neck.
My son blushes lightly and I suppress a smile. Jay, as usual, acts totally unaware while wrapping his left arm around my son's waist.
I follow them inside but turn to the kitchen as they proceed to the stairs. And I review the recent event in my head as I take some fruits and prepare the juice.
Of course, Jasper's worry is natural. His care for his best friend is solid and sincere, so anything that affects Edward will affect him. But, the way he was looking at my son, the way he was so unsettled, the way he got relieved as it became clear that nothing serious had happened… I don't know, there was something there. I can't seem to grasp it, to pinpoint it, but I know it's because I'm too involved in the situation, so I don't have enough clarity to analyze the matter. But something keeps telling me that maybe Edward is not alone in his feelings…
I sigh heavily.
I'm a father, I want my son to be happy. I'm being partial. I'm probably seeing things that are not there, possibly because of my main instinct to provide everything for my son's happiness…
As I turn off the blender, I shake my head slowly as if the gesture could put away my thoughts. Pouring the juice in the glasses I remind myself that Jay dates Alice, and he seems to like her.
Yes, I'm seeing things that are not there.
Some minutes later I'm approaching Edward's bedroom door and I see Jasper in the hall, his back to me, talking on the phone.
"I just can't leave him, okay? He needs me here, he's not fine." He seems to be arguing with someone.
I don't want to pry, so I try not to listen as I quicken my steps to get in the room.
"No, Alice. I'm staying with him. I'll see you tomorrow. What kind of…"
I don't get to hear the end of the conversation as I'm no longer in hearing reach when I cross the doorsill, but from what I could hear I can draw some conclusions.
I push them to the back of my mind, though, as I concentrate on my son. I can contemplate them all later. Now I have to take care of Edward.
He seems fine, there's some color on his cheeks, he's not pale anymore.
"How you're feeling?" I ask while giving him one of the glasses.
"Embarrassed?" He mumbles as he takes the glass from my hand.
"No need for that. It can happen to anyone. Drink."
"It's nothing serious, right? I feel better, Dad." His tone is a little frantic.
I look attentively at him, trying to understand why he's so fidgety. He seems afraid of something but I really don't think it's regarding his health.
"It's nothing serious, you can rest easy." I tranquilize him, still evaluating his stance. "You just need some repose and care." He sighs, clearly disturbed. "Why are you distressed, Edward?"
He looks at the door for a moment.
One of the things that I'm mostly happy about in my relationship with my son is the openness, the honesty we share. He never keeps anything from me, as I try to tell him everything too. So when he holds my wrist and pleads with his eyes, shaking his head slightly, I know he's not avoiding answering me. He's asking me to wait. And soon I understand why.
Jasper gets in the room silently, coming straight to my son's side.
"Okay." He somewhat huffs. "My day is all cleared up. I also talked to my mom and explained why I have to sleep here tonight."
"Jazz, you don't have to do this. I'm fine." Edward tries to assure him.
But if I know Jasper well, and if I'm reading his stern look right, he won't back down on his decision.
"Mr. C," He looks seriously at me. "Will you work today?"
"Yes, son. In a few hours."
"Is Missus C coming back any time soon?"
I know what he's doing, and I have to suppress a smile as I answer him.
"She'll be back only at night."
"Is it good for Edward to be alone until then?"
Holy shit, I'm proud of this boy! He's worried about his best friend, he wants to take care of him, and since he obviously knows that Edward will insist on being resistant to his attitude, he's trying to convince him he's right to drop everything to stay. There's no shadow of a doubt that he cares a great deal for my son.
"Dad, tell him I'm okay." My son requests softly while pleading with his eyes again. "He doesn't have to stay, I'll be fine until mom arrives."
And I finally understand why Edward was fidgety.
Everything falls into place inside my head fast. Jay arguing with his girlfriend on the phone, Edward fretting over my opinion on his condition…
Jasper is forgoing his plans to stay here, prioritizing his best friend. He really doesn't need to do that, Edward would be okay by himself until Esme gets here, but of course, I prefer to leave him with someone I trust to look after him.
My son doesn't want his best friend to give up on whatever he was doing for the rest of the Sunday to take care of him. He doesn't want to burden Jay even though he would really like to have him by his side, this much I know well.
Once more my mind is flooded with conclusions, but I hold them off for the time being. The boys are waiting for my answer.
"Actually, Edward, I'll feel better if Jay stays." While Jasper sighs by his side, he opens his mouth to protest. I hurry to explain. "Although you have nothing serious, you experienced syncope, indeed. Your blood pressure is low, son, and you'll have to take it easy for today to avoid further episodes. You'll need to drink lots of liquids but you also need to rest here in your bedroom where is cool, you won't be able to come and go for now. Jay will help you. He can take care of the food and beverages, and he'll call me if you don't feel well."
"But, Dad…" He tries.
"Edward, shhh!" Jasper shushes him and they exchange an annoyed glare. I can't help a discrete smile before I continue.
"Besides, your mother will arrive late today. And I'll be on duty until tomorrow morning." They're both looking at me again now. "Jay will help not only you but also me and Esme. So don't be so stubborn."
"See?" Jasper rhetorically asks him. "Now don't argue and drink your juice." He demands softly and Edward easily complies.
This time I really smile. Their dynamic is interesting and funny, and it resembles one of a couple, which reinforces my musings…
"You have everything you need here, right Jay?"
"Yeah. Missus C bought me a new toothbrush last month." He smiles and rolls his eyes a little. I smile back. "And I have some clothes in E's closet."
"Good." I turn to Edward. "Need anything, son?" He just shakes his head, clearly vexed. "So I'll be downstairs, I need to finish reading an article. I'll come and see you before I leave for work."
I leave the room soon after, but I can still hear them when I reach the corridor.
"What do you wanna do?" Jasper asks with a light tone. "Nothing that involves getting up."
I smile at that. He's so careful...
"I'm not a convalescent, Jazz." Edward huffs and I have the urge to laugh. He seems a bratty child at this moment.
"But you heard your father. You need to rest. And I'll make sure this is exactly what you'll do."
I stop at the top of the stairs, I want to hear Edward's reaction to the slightly authoritative tone Jay is using.
"You're so demanding!"
I can't hold back a laugh, but I muffled it covering my mouth with my hand.
"And you're so stubborn. Just let me take care of you, okay?"
"I'm fine, I don't need to be taken care of." Edward's answer is a little rude, and I come back two or three steps, just to know what Jay's reaction might be.
There's a moment of silence, and again I feel like an intruder. But what I'm doing is assessing what's really happening between them, so I need facts to help me figure this out, I need to know how they interact when they think nobody is seeing or listening.
"I disagree, and so does your father." Jasper replies in what seems a controlled tone.
"Why do you care so much? It's not like I'm dying."
"I care because you're important. Dumb question, E. Dumb question."
I've heard enough.
As I go down the stairs my mind works fast.
Edward loves Jasper deeply enough to overlook his wishes and even needs, just for the sake of preserving whatever Jay has to or wants to do. He even gets annoyed if he feels as if he's disturbing his friend's plans… I can see that he is more and more in love with Jasper, this is not a simple crush, this is serious.
But the surprise resides in Jay...
It's not the first time I see him giving up his plans to be with Edward.
There was spring break, and Emmet's birthday, along with so many other occasions. He easily renounces whatever to be by Edward's side, and clearly gets annoyed if my son reacts against it.
I still cannot be sure, but something is nagging me, telling me that Jay has feelings for Edward too.
Maybe he simply doesn't know yet.
.
.
.
I'm driving back home from the hospital. Edward is in the passenger seat looking away from me, to the passing streets outside, through the closed window.
I'm relieved his hand is not so gravely harmed. It could have been worse. Now, his emotional state is really concerning me...
He is so silent… His facial expression is blank. He seems placid, so placid it resembles indifference. But I know him better than that.
My son is beyond sad. He is profoundly wounded and frustrated, I dare to say broken.
I want to do something, but I simply can't reach him since after the talk we had this morning.
When I woke up and went to check on him he was already up… and crying. He was crying almost as much as on the day he found out about his feelings for Jasper, he was crying so hard I worried about a nervous breakdown.
He was sitting on the floor with his back leaning on the bed. His face was hidden between his hands while his upper body was curved towards his stretched legs. His shoulders were shaking so hard, he seemed so defeated.
That scene hurt me.
I approached him silently, sat beside him, and touched his arm, just for him to know I was there. He simply released his head and rested it on my shoulder as he proceeded to sob and whimper uncontrollably.
At some point, he calmed down and we talked. He told me about Jasper finding out about his feelings, affirming he was uncomfortable with them, and asking for some time apart. He then spoke about how Emmett noticed something was wrong, convinced him to spend the rest of the weekend away camping, took him to his house to pick up what they would need, and that it led to him seeing Jay with Alice in bed.
He stumbled and whimpered through the words as more tears slipped from his eyes.
I heard everything impartially, just gathering the facts to assess them later, and tried to comfort him by affirming that soon Jay would cool off and be back. But Edward was stern when he stated that nothing would ever be the same again.
It was by then that I noticed how his left hand was swollen and purplish. I asked him about it and tried hard not to show how indignant I was with his stupid behavior once he explained what had happened.
Breaking fingers punching a wall, just for self punishment…
I'd never thought he would be so childish, impulsive, and irresponsible, and I told him so, but I needed to take care of that, so I pulled myself together and took him to the hospital.
"How do you feel?" My tone is still a little dry. I am still a bit angry.
He turns to me with a distant look in his eyes, although I can identify, perfectly, the hurt he is containing.
"I'm fine." He lies.
"Seriously?" I question looking back at the road. "You're doing this? You've never lied to me before, son. Please don't start now."
His huffed sigh is more than confirmatory, but I wait for him to feel comfortable to open up. I am not pressuring him when I can see he's dealing with way more than he can handle.
"Can we go somewhere?" He asks in a low tone. "I can't go home right now."
I nod and turn the car on the next exit.
He needs a neutral environment, so he can speak. That has been his way of coping with the challenges he's been facing since he realized he's in love with Jasper.
There's a place we usually go, a park across town where there are benches around ponds, a place surrounded by nature where very few people are coming and going. We get there after another silent ride, we walk calmly side by side and sit on a wooden bench under a tree.
Edward stalls a little, but I know he's just preparing himself to unburden. It's always difficult for him to put his feelings and thoughts out.
I wait. And while I do so I contemplate the situation.
Jasper's behavior is one of a person who's hurt, which doesn't make much sense. If I know him as well as I think, from the eighteen years he's been around, he didn't ask for time apart so he could accept Edward's feelings. If I'm reading the situation correctly, using facts that I observed over the last two years as a base for my conclusion, Jasper is actually taking some time to heal… but from what?
"I'm so angry at him…" Edward finally speaks through his teeth, his tone hard and contained. "How could he do that?"
"You're talking about…" I start to say.
"How could he fuck her?!" He interrupts me, his voice rising a little.
"Language, young man." I reprimand lightly, I know he's just a little out of control. "He is free to do whatever he wants with whom he wants."
Edward turns to me, his eyes blazing.
"But, Alice?! She's the worst choice he can ever make!"
"Edward, son, I understand that you're feeling jealous and hurt, but it's not like he owes you any justification regarding the people he engages with. You can't be mad at him over this."
"Of course I can." He mumbles, turning his head away from me. "She was the reason we got apart the first time."
"And maybe that's exactly why he did this?" I think out loud, assimilating the possibility.
My son looks at me squinting.
"It makes sense if you think that he's trying to deny his real feelings." I try to reason with him while the conclusion comes to me.
He shakes his head while speaking.
"Jasper had sex with Alice to reaffirm his heterosexuality…" His voice is dispirited. "Because finding out I'm in love with him made him uncomfortable."
"And why would that be?" I try to incite his logical thinking.
"I know what you think, Dad, but you're wrong. I wish you were right, but you're not, he's not in love with me."
"Okay, he's probably not in love with you, but he has feelings for you, romantic feelings, this much I can tell."
"You're wrong."
"Edward, he kissed you on the night of his birthday."
"He was out of his mind that night, we already discussed that."
I pause and sigh, looking for a smoother way to say this to him.
"Son, I'm not trying to encourage some vain hope in you, I'm trying to make you see that you both want the same thing. Maybe Jay isn't aware of his true feelings yet, but he…"
"Dad, stop, please. I don't want to hear it." He huffs. "I'm tired of creating expectations and deluding myself when I know better than to believe that someday Jasper will be interested in more than friendship with me. He's not. He'll never be. And I have to move on, I have to stop this, I'm exhausted of this pain, I can't go on pining for him."
"So, go talk to him."
"I can't." Even his voice seems tired. "He asked for time and I'm not going after him, I don't wanna pressure him."
I resign myself.
"All right. You don't need to anyway. I'm pretty sure he'll come after you."
As he becomes silent and thick glistening tears are shed, I assume it's better not to say anything else for the time being. He's truly hurt and fragile, and I need to support him and not feed his anguish further.
I wrap my arm around his shoulder and pull him to me, making him rest his head on my chest, providing him with what I know makes him feel comfortable enough to cry and relieve himself of the hurt.
This is all I can do besides praying for the universe to guide these two boys to each other and hope that someday soon they'll finally see the truth.
.
.
.
I think 9 milligrams is enough…
The sound of loud laughter disrupts my attention and I lose my train of thought. Another satisfied smile stretches my lips though, as I raise my head and try to concentrate on the joyful noise.
I can see them from where I am sitting on the porch, and the image warms my heart.
Jasper is sitting on the lawn, leaning on the Oak tree trunk, playing with Edward's hair, and talking merrily. My son is lying with his head on his boyfriend's lap, attentive to whatever Jay is saying and smiling broadly at him.
They keep on laughing and talking and subtly touching each other on the face, hair, and hands… and they seem so in tune and happy.
I sigh.
It took them long enough, but they're finally together.
I feel contentment flooding me, not for having had my suspicions confirmed or my son getting what he wanted…
I'm pleased to witness and somehow be a part of the beginning of something beautiful.
Edward's love for Jasper is solid, and I know it's unique. And recently I've come to notice that so is Jasper's love for my son.
I just hope I can keep on watching their story from this close, as I was able to this point. And that they never let go of each other, because they're simply perfect together.
