"Mineta-kun! I was really worried!" Midoriya said as he approached Mineta.
The shorter boy removed the last of his targets from his body and turned to his partner. And man, was he a sight for sore eyes. Currently, they, the rest of 1A, and the other 80 examinees were in the anteroom waiting for the next phase of the exam to begin. And according to the examiners, that would be about 10 minutes from now.
So they were all free to rest, socialize, and snack on some of the refreshments provided until then.
"I was pretty worried too… I had to fight off four guys, crawl through a tunnel, and help out Ojiro, Mina, and Hagakure just to get this far… But hey, you and I are here now and that's all that matters." Mineta said with a tired smile. The green haired boy's brows raised themselves slightly as he began breaking down his friend's response. And with that came the questions.
"Four people? That training really with Aizawa and Ectoplasm-sensei really paid off! What were their Quirks like?" Midoriya asked, reflexively pulling out a notebook that wasn't there. Maybe the green haired boy should invest in a memo pad. That way, he won't miss out on any details in the future. But for now, Mineta should just focus on answering his partner.
"Tell me about it… If those two hadn't pulped me, I wouldn't have made it out of that. But as for their Quirks, I only saw two. There this girl with six angel wings that could light herself on fire. And then there was this girl who looks like a giant werewolf." Mineta answered, tapping his chin in thought.
Midoriya was about to ask his next series of questions only to suddenly stop. His green eyes shrank as they slowly looked upwards at something that was either above Mineta… Or there was something, or someone, really tall right behind him. Judging by the timing of their conversation, the shape of the shadow over him, and the low growl that filled the immediate area, the shorter boy knew who it was.
So with a deep breath, Mineta turned to face his doom.
"What a sur– Rghk!" He began before Okami's big furry hand grabbed his throat. She then raised him off the ground until Mineta was at eye level with her. As such, the shorter boy could feel the weight of his body in his neck and was forced to pull up on Okami's arm to ease some of the pressure. Thus, Mineta was left completely at the mercy of this she-wolf.
Well, Mineta did have one hope… The shorter boy heard Midoriya's Full Cowl activate. So if it came down to it, his partner would get him out of this mess. And based on what he heard around him, Mineta could tell 1A was getting ready to intervene as well.
"Could you please put my friend down?" Midoriya asked as he tightened his grip on the wolf girl's arm. Okami's eyes went to the green haired boy for a second, completely unfazed by his show of intimidation, before turning back to Mineta. Her growl grew a little louder as Okami began to bear her fangs. A demonstration that was almost as terrifying as Master Eclipse's killer intent.
"I've met my fair share of little bastards at Tsujigiri… But none of them ever crossed me like you had. Messing up my fur… Preying on my mate when he couldn't defend himself… Forcing my pack to sacrifice themselves for me to pass… You better hope we don't meet again as enemies, otherwise these fangs will be tasting rat for the first time." Okami said with an eerie level of calm. The wolf girl then dropped Mineta, who Midoriya caught, before turning away.
And just as a final 'screw you', she harshly batted the shorter boy across the face with her tail.
Okami then just stormed off to a corner to brood. And while her aggression levels have died down, no one dared approach her. Even the exam officials were hesitant to directly reprimand her for her aggressive attitude… They did, however, penalize her by stating that she will begin the next phase of the exam at a heavy disadvantage.
"Are you two okay?" Iida asked as he and several others approached Mineta and Midoriya.
"I'm fine. What about you Mineta-kun?" Midoriya replied before he put Mineta down. The shorter boy didn't answer, deciding to first stretch out his neck. But other than being a little sore, he was perfectly fine. Mineta simply nodded to his friends, putting them at ease. Though with that out of the way, 1A began focusing on the next problem…
"Who was that and why did she threaten you?" Yaoyorozu asked, carefully observing the still brooding wolf. Mineta knew exactly why. And by breaking down what Okami said earlier, the shorter boy began to understand what drove the wolf girl to such an action. Granted, he wouldn't go so far as to threaten someone with murder over it…
That would be uncreative and too Bakugou like.
"A student of Tsujigiri High and I've sort of screwed her and her friends over, with one of them being her boyfriend..." Mineta replied, nervously scratching at the back of his head. Kouda looked over to Okami for a moment before his eyes widened upon spotting something. And to hear him speak so clearly goes to show the sort of damage Mineta caused.
"Then you caused that bald patch on her arm and tail? Fur like her's takes a long time to grow and groom. So of course she would be upset at you. She had to tear out hours of work just to escape your Quirk." He explained.
"It's not like I forced her to do that! I though she would just stay put!" Mineta said loudly. Then again, people did some pretty extreme things if it meant survival. The shorter boy DID burn a man's eye out over the Summer...
"Still, you need to be careful around her from now on Mineta-kun. Tsujigiri High is notorious for having a large delinquent student body for a Hero school. If one of their members has targeted you, then something bad will certainly happen." Iida warned. The shorter boy could only nod as his eyes unconsciously went to Okami. And though he just saw her resting the way dogs do…
Mineta couldn't shake the feeling that the wolf girl was actually glaring at him.
"Damn, what a bitch. Imagine being pissed just because someone fucked up your hair." Bakugou commented, a condescending smirk appearing on his face.
"Sounds like someone I know." Todoroki replied bluntly. In response to this, the explosive blonde began waging a profanity war that the dual colored boy completely ignored. However, that all came to a halt when the students of Shiketsu High came over to them. An encounter Mineta hopes would fair far better than what just occurred with Okami.
Though when the one covered with hair began by addressing Bakugou, the shorter boy started to feel jumpy. Did 1A have no allies in this?
"My name is Mora Nagamasa, and I want to talk about Shishikura." He began. Okay, nevermind. Maybe 1A does have allies in this after all. Was it because the free-for-all was over that everyone could now be friendly with one another? Whatever the case, Mineta just hoped Bakugou doesn't blow it.
"That shifty-eyed bastard? What are you're going to do Hairball, avenge him?" Bakugou asked, his calm voice hiding his barely restrained aggression.
"No, Shishikura brought it upon himself with his terribly rude behavior. He has a bad habit of imposing his ideals upon others, especially to notorious people such as you. But we'd like to build a good relationship with UA going forward. So please, accept our apologies." Mora said, bowing slightly. Bakugou didn't say anything to this. But that is better than flat out rejecting their apology.
However, when the Shiketsu students began to take their leave, Todoroki approached Inasa with a clear question on his mind. But while Mineta couldn't really hear what they were talking about, the contempt in the tall stranger's eyes was clear. There was bad blood between him and the dual colored boy.
"Yoarashi, is there something wrong? And Camie, why are you still there!?" Mora asked from several steps away. Mineta tilted his head when he heard the second name. Though the moment he shifted his eyes, he saw a blond Shiketsu girl in a tight black bodysuit and flinched. For one, she was incredibly attractive.
Two… Was she always there? Because of his training at the Heaven and Earth Temple, Mineta had a decent grasp on presence detection. But despite this, and the fact that the person in question was a gorgeous lady, he did NOT sense her at all. It was like she never existed until now.
Did she use her peer's more notable presence as a cover?
"Nothing at all senpai!" Inasa answered before rushing over.
"Well then, I'll see you later." She said flirtatiously, glancing at Midoriya as she walked off. That comment just left Mineta more confused. What happened between her and his partner? Though judging from how Midoriya cringed, it's probably nothing good.
"Umm… Deku-kun, what was that about?" Uraraka asked nervously, her entire being looking unusually tense.
"I-It's not what you think! She attacked me and was really scary about it!" Midoriya said frantically, facing the gravity defying girl. However, that just led to Sero, who was smirking, giving an oddly specific response. And that made Mineta realize that the tape slinger caught the green haired boy doing something completely out-of-context.
"Oh I bet she was."
"Sero-kun please!"
"I… I see…" Uraraka replied as she casted hollow eyes towards the ground. Midoriya, upon witnessing the girl's despondent look, also slipped into a crestfallen state. The green haired boy then turned to his friend and laid his hands upon Mineta's shoulders. And judging by how heavy they feel, the shorter boy knew his partner had just experienced a new low.
"Mineta-kun… I'm finished… Go on without me…" Midoriya said, his voice sounding like it aged several decades.
Given what just happened… That was an understandable response.
And that has been Chapter 91!
I've got no real news this week. So for our next update, we'll be getting into the second part of the exam. Stay tuned and...
Until Next Time. T1.
