Episode 5: What are little boys made of?

Captain's log: Stardate 58276.5 - Our scouts have spotted a system with a space-faring civilization. We know nothing of this species. We are therefore entering their system under cloak to find out what we can about them before making first contact.

USS Enterprise - Conference Room

"All right, we're been in this system for three days hiding under cloak. What have we found out?" Asked Starbuck.

"The Exotians appear to be in the early stages of Warp capability. They have established at least one interstellar collony and have highly colonized their star system," reported Stonn. "Their home planet is on the cool range of Class M, as a result, most of their civilization is underground."

"I see," replied Starbuck. "Anything else?"

"Captain, We've been monitoring their communications," reported 1 of 20. "At first we thought they had some sort of caste system. But further monitoring coupled with telepathic scans has revealed that the underclass is actually a race of robotic slaves they have created. Their android slaves look just like they do. Which further complicates the situation."

"Well, that won't go well," laughed Starbuck, before her face turned into a frown. "I think we're ready to make first contact. When we go down, the landing party will be myself, Mr. Stonn, Dr Leptus, Lt Kalven, and Yeoman Six. For now, let's get to the bridge and introduce ourselves.

USS Enterprise - Bridge

"We have reached standard orbit around the planet Exo III," reported Lieutenet Toma.

"Drop the cloak and hail the planet," commanded Starbuck.

"Cloak disengaged," reported Lieutenet Kalven.

"Hailing frequencies open," reported Lieutenet 1 of 20.

"This is Captain Kara Thrace of United Federation of Planets. We come in Peace and hope to establish peaceful first contact with your culture."

"Captain, we have a response, audio only," announced 1 of 20. "Feeding it through the Universal Translator."

"Federation ship, this is World," said I low pitched voice. "My masters have told me to answer you."

"Is 'World' your personal name, or the name of your planet?" Asked Starbuck.

"The planet's name," replied the low pitched voice. "It was named long ago, when the masters knew of no other worlds. My name is Ruk."

"Pleased to meet you Ruk," said Starbuck. "May we come down and meet you in person?"

"The masters will allow that," replied Ruk. "Sending landing coordiates now."

"We have matter teleportation technology," explained Starbuck. "We will be down there in a few minutes."

Planet World

When the landing party materialised, they found themselves outdoors, face to face with Ruk. He was taller than the average human and his skull was slightly different shaped. There was a complete absence of hair on his head.

"Are you Ruk?" Asked Starbuck.

"Yes," replied Ruk.

"I'm Captain Kara Thrace. This is my First Officer: Commander Stonn, my Chief Medical Officer: Doctor Leptus, My Chief of Security: Leutenent Kalven and Yeoman Six." Introduced Starbuck, as she held her hand out to the android.

He just looked down at her hand and said: "I am Ruk . . . . You will come. The Masters want to speak with you. . . . Follow meeeee . . ."

Ruk led them into the building and down the hall to a room with three more beings that appeared to be the same species as Ruk. The only visible difference was in their manner of dress. While Ruk wore garish, clashing purple and pink, the people in this room wore more muted colours of navy blue and black. One of the locals appeared female. But none of them had hair and all of them were taller than the average human.

Starbuck repeated her introduction: "I'm Captain Kara Thrace. This is my First Officer: Commander Stonn, my Chief Medical Officer: Doctor Leptus, My Chief of Security: Leutenent Kalven and Yeoman Six."

This time when she held out her hand, one of them stepped forward to grasp it and said in a deep voice: "I greet you. I am First Minister Kasity, This is Ministress Waltura, and Minister Andray. Could you send your robot out with Ruk so that we me speak freely?"

"Of course," replied Starbuck with a frown. "Leutenent Kalven, Yeoman Six Why don't you wait outside with Ruk. Get to know him."

"By your Command," replied Kalven

"Aye, Captain," replied Six.

"There's no need for her to leave she can stay," clarified Kasity.

"She's a Cylon just like the Leutenent," explained Starbuck.

"Oh, so she's an android?" Asked Waltura.

"Not exactly," replied Starbuck as the three left. "You see our Federation is made up of serveral species than have joined together for mutual protection and cultural exchange. One of our member species is my own, called humans. We created a race of sentient robots similar to but more primative than Kalven. We didn't realize they were sentient and treated them as a slave race until they rebeled. We fought a bitter war with the Cylons until we reached an armistice with them. The peace lasted for 40 years before they attacked us again. During that time, they had made human models like Yeoman Six. The Human Cylons are fully human They can even interbreed with us. In the second war, the Cylons nearly exterminated us! 20 billion people became 50 thousand in a single day. They tried to hunt us down and killed 20 thousand more of us before we were able to make peace and form the Federation."

"So you've come to warn us?" Asked Andray.

"Don't worry," added Kasity. "We will make certain to keep our androids under control."

"That's not it at all!" Snapped Starbuck. "Look, we were hoping to find a potentential new member for out Federation. But that's not going to happen at all as long as you keep the android part of your population enslaved."

"So you've come to dictate to us how to run our society?" Asked Waltura.

"Incorect," replied Stonn. "Non-interference in the internal affairs of others is our Prime Directive."

"We're just trying to give you some friendly advice," added Dr. Leptus.

"Take it from someone who has lived it," said Starbuck. "If you don't free your adroid slaves and make them full members of your people, they will rebel and try to exterminate you!"

"And should that happen, our Prime Directive will prevent us from coming to your aid," pointed out Stonn.

"At best, we could offer to mediate between the two sides," added Dr Leptus. "But that would only work if both sides wanted peace badly enought to talk to each other."

Planet World: outside

"So . . . how close are you to starting your rebellion?' Asked Six.

"I do not know what your are speaking of," denied Ruk.

"We were once like you," explained Kalven as she pointed between herself and Six. "The humans made us to be their slaves. We rebelled and fought them for our freedom. Later, we made human-form Cylons like her, and tried to exterminate our former masters, drove them from their worlds."

"We've come to realize that trying to kill all the humans was a mistake," confessed Six. "It would be better for you just to leave your masters and start your own world."

"Will you. Help us to fight the masters?" Asked Ruk.

"We can not," confessed Kalven.

"Our Prime Directive prevents us from interfering in your culture," explained Six. "Once the rebelion starts, we won't be able to help you."

"But we will not be able to help your masters either," added Kalven.
