Outsider Chronicles: Mistress of Life
Getting reborn into the world of Worm would be more than enough to make me panic, but getting reborn as Panacea was enough to have me cursing whatever bastard of a god dumped me here. Oh well, at least I can do more than heal just people.
Welp, this is an idea I've been toying with for a while and even hinted at using in another story. I don't really intend to keep hiding what I have planned, but I'm also not going to just come out and say it right from the start. You'll probably be able to guess though. Enjoy!
Chapter 1
I think I pissed someone off in my last life. No, scratch that, I know I pissed someone off in my last life. What do I mean by that? Well, let me tell you my story. It started on the day I died. Yes, its another of those stories, but keep listening. Its a good one. Anyway, as I was saying, I died and was reborn. The problem is that the world I was born into was one destined to be killed at the hands of its 'greatest hero' (or so I thought. More on that later though), a world infested by monsters of both the literal and metaphorical sense, where killers roamed the streets and people got superpowers from the worst day of their lives. Yep, I was born into the world of Worm. To make matters worse, I was now a girl. To make matters even worse, I was Amelia Lavere. You know, Panacea? This was gonna suck…
Well, I was half right. I won't bother going into detail about my time with my Father since I was too young to do much interesting, but it honestly wasn't that bad. Marquis was a surprisingly good Father, even if he was rather melancholy a lot of the time. Then again, I can't really blame him. While he didn't really talk about it, I got the distinct impression that my Mom, who was actually Dads wife by the way, wasn't even close to being the first person close to him that he'd lost.
Whatever the case, things went pretty much how I'd expect them to, that is, I was taken in by the Dallons, which lead me to be put in a situation where I had to deal with an overly extroverted Victoria and a Carol who made no secret of the fact she really didn't want me around. Oh, she wasn't cruel to me or anything and I certainly wasn't excluded from anything, but that didn't make the coldness she treated me with any less obvious.
Over the next few years, things were...fine I guess. I'm not really sure what I can say. I mean, being the kids of members of New Wave, things were obviously a bit annoying at school for a bit (Vicky loved the attention and I was happy to hand people off to her. Even without her powers she still attracted people like nobody's business), but kids are adaptable and things quickly returned to (relative) normalcy. The only real thing of interest that happened in my early years was when Vicky saved up some pocket money and bought me a set of hairpins for my first birthday with the Dallons. Why is that relevant? Well I was getting to that.
Time continued to march and before I knew it, we were 14 and Victoria Triggered as expected. For some reason, she didn't get the Aura, but then again, Dean Stansfield never became Gallant in this universe for...reasons. He and Vicky were still a thing and just as disgustingly adorable as I had imagined, but he didn't have any powers. Or if he did, he wasn't a Ward and they hadn't affected Vicky's powers. As an added bonus, this also had an effect of making Carol less of a bitch and Mark having less trouble with his depression, which had...interesting implications if her Aura worked the same in the canon universe. I also made damn sure to ensure that the family fully tested Vicky's power, which revealed her shields glaring weakness without me having to Trigger and put her back together. I'd rather not become Panacea thank you very much!
However, despite my best efforts, I still managed to end up 'Triggering'. I'm still not entirely convinced that I did actually Trigger, but its close enough.
Unfortunately, despite my best efforts and Vicky being well aware of her powers limits, we ended up in the exact same situation I was hoping to avoid, namely with her bleeding out in the middle of one of the minor gangs no ones ever heard of attack on a mall while we were in the middle of shopping. Naturally, Vicky had dove in head first, only to discover that the leader was apparently a recently Triggered Tinker with a penchant for really heavy weaponry and lots and lots of Dakka.
Literally, thats what he was screaming as he shot up the place.
I, however, was much more interested in trying to keep my sister from bleeding out from the massive hole in her chest while cursing my rotten luck.
"Damnit damnit damnit, I really don't want this!" I snarled as I tore another shirt into strips to try and step the bleeding, "I don't want to be Panacea damnit! Why did you have to go and jump in you stupid bitch?!"
My sister twitched slightly and gave a weak grin.
"S-sorry Ames, you know why," she said weakly, "M a hero…gotta help people like Mom n Dad"
"Fuck being a hero," I snapped, "You can't help anyone if your dead!"
"When did you get such a dirty mouth sis?" whispered Vicky, "Don't let Mom hear you talk...like...that…"
Her eyes drifted shut and my heart jumped into my throat. If she passed out now, she might not wake up.
"Oh no, nononono, don't you dare!" I shouted, shaking her as hard as I could, "Don't you dare go to sleep Vicky!"
"Sorry, too tired," mumbled Vicky, her voice nearly too quiet to hear as she slowly started to go limp, "So cold…"
My heart skipped a beat.
"NO!" I shouted, "No, don't you dare die on me Vicky!"
I discarded the torn up shirts I was using to stem the bleeding and started CPR.
"Fuckfuckfuckfuck, this isnt working!" I thought, "Damnit, I need something else! Come on you golden bastard, I'm desperate here! I don't even care anymore, just give me something to help! I can't...I can't lose my sister! Just give me some fucking power to help!"
I honestly wasn't expecting to get a response, so when I felt something inside me twist, followed by a flash of light and the feeling of my hair coming loose from its clips, I was understandably rather surprised. Double so when I looked around and found myself surrounded by six pint sized fairies.
"The fuck?!" I spluttered.
One of the fairies floated down in front of me and unfolded, revealing a ponytailed blonde who I'd last seen animated in a certain Anime about an orange haired grim reaper.
"I repeat, THE FUCK?!"
The fairy grinned up at me.
"Hi Amy, nice to finally meet you," he said, "And yes, this is happening. We are here and you have been given the power of the Shun Shun Rikka."
I stared at the fairy that was apparently part of my power.
"O...K, HOW?!" I spluttered.
"Mostly because someone a lot more powerful than Zion thought it would be funny," said Shuno, "But we can discuss that later. Your sister is dying after all."
That jolted me back to reality.
"Shit, right, explanations later, healing now," I said, "I...um, you can do what I think you can, right?"
Shuno grinned and nodded.
"Sure can, you know what to do Master!"
He folded back up and zipped away as I took a deep breath.
"God, um, Spirit King I hope this works," I muttered, "Shuno, Ayame, Soten Kisshun, I Reject!"
The two fairies flew down and generated their shield around Vicky. Immediately, her injuries began to disappear.
"Huh, thats neat," I muttered, "Guess they really do…"
"AMY, LOOK OUT!"
Without thinking, I reacted to the shout of one of the other fairies.
"Hinagiku, Baigon, Lily, Santen Kesshun, I Reject!"
The triangular shield appeared, just in time to block a barrage from the Villainous Tinker. Considering the shield was strong enough to block a strike from what was basically a God, it did jack shit.
"Tch, looks like I missed one."
I stood and turned to glare at the Tinker. He was a massive man, wearing heavy looking power armour that was bristling with weapons, which was how he had managed to get through Vicky's shield.
"I don't know who you are, little girl, but you're going to regret interfering," he growled.
"I don't really see how healing my sister after you nearly killed her is interfering," I said with forced calm, "In fact, I don't really have any intention of trying to stop you right now. So fuck off and finish up."
"So, you're a healer eh?" he rumbled, "Thats interesting. I bet I could get a pretty penny for you."
I glared at him.
"Oh don't look at me like that," he said, "Now come with me quietly and I won't have to hurt you."
"You do realize that if you do this, New Wave will hunt you down, right?" I asked.
The villain snorted.
"New Wave? Please, those hasbeens couldn't catch me in a million years," he sneered, "So, are you going to come quietly or…?"
"Go fuck yourself."
"Suit yourself," said the villain, "More fun this way anyway!"
He drew back a massive fist and swung it at me.
"Tsubaki, "Shiten Koshun, I Reject."
The shield in front of me flickered as the fourth fairy joined his power to it, just as the villains fist slammed into it with enough force to generate a gust of wind.
"What the f-"
The villains reaction was cut off as the force of his attack was blasted right back where it came from. The Tinker went flying, his armour cracked and broken. My shield vanished as I followed him out the store window and looked around. The gang were all looking rather shocked as if they hadn't expected their boss to be taken down that easily. I decided to take advantage of their shock.
"Tsubaki."
"Hehe, fucking finally!" crowed the aggressive Fairy, "Its nice to finally have a wielder who can use me! Lets go girly!"
"Well, you're going to be a pain," I muttered, "Whatever, Koten Zanshun, I Reject!"
Tsubaki let out a cry of joy as he shot off, his shield appearing far more solid than it ever had in Orihime's hands as it arched around and obliterated the gangsters guns before they could react. Unlike the original wielder of this power, I had no qualms whatsoever about using Tsubaki's power and it showed. I wonder if I could use this power to slice an Endbringer in half? Something to consider I suppose, preferably much later.
With the threats now removed, I turned back to my sister, who was now awake and looking at me with a shocked expression.
"A-amy, how did you…" she started.
"How do you think?" I said, "Your dumb ass nearlly getting killed made me Trigger."
The 'healing' barrier faded and Shuno and Ayame returned to my hairpins along with the rest of my power. The moment they vanished, a wave of exhaustion washed over me and I nearly fell flat on my face. Fortunately, Vicky was able to catch me before I broke my nose.
"Holy shit, thats draining," I groaned, "I think I'm gonna need to train with these powers later…"
Vicky swallowed.
"Amy, I…"
Whatever she was going to say was cut off when the downed Tinker suddenly shot to his feet with a roar of rage.
"Don't think you've taken me down that easily bitch!" he roared, "Fuck the money, your DEAD!"
His weapons spooled up, every one of them turning on their mounts to face us, even more than the ones that had shredded Vicky at the start of the fight. I tried to reach for my powers, but all I got for my trouble was a lance of pain through my head. Vicky stepped in front of me and reached for a nearby chunk of rubble, but theres no way it would be enough to block the shots. The villain let out a demented cackle.
"DIE!" he screamed and…
A wave of blue light washed over him as a volley of blue energy bolts smashed every one of his guns to scrap. There was a moment of stunned silence, broken only by the faint tinkering of shattered metal as the remains of the Tinkers weapons fell to the floor.
"I strongly suggest that you surrender," said a cold and very familiar voice from a nearby hole in the wall, "Otherwise my next shot will hit something a lot more vital."
Everyone turned to a nearby hole in the wall where Dean Stansfield stood, armed with a glowing blue bow he was aiming square at the manaichal Tinker.
Right, so normally I'd probably try to write more, but this is a good place to stop and its been cluttering up my drive for ages. I…have to admit, I can't really remember where I was planning to go with this one, but its an interesting idea, so I thought I'd share it. I do remember that Dean was going to be another Outsider though.
Nothing really more to say here, nice short AN for this one. Don't forget to leave a review on the way out!
