Outsider Chronicles: Todays Reaper
Dieing and ending up in another world is one thing. That world being one infested with monsters is quite another. Add in stubborn parents and a grouchy brother and you've got a recipe of a massive headache.
And we are back with a new idea! This one is Bleach. Should be fun. Enjoy!
Chapter 1
How do you think you'll die? Thats not a question many people ask themselves, but I don't think that anyone would ever think they would die after being crushed under a pile of strawberry boxes. Yeah, not exactly the most glamorous way to go. It doesn't really help that I don't like strawberries.
...Well, someone up there must have a sense of humor. What do I mean by that? Well, after I died, I was reborn. What does that have to do with strawberries? Well, the world I've been reborn into was one destined to be saved by a guy named Strawberry, although he insists its actually 'Number 1 Guardian'. Yep, I've been reborn into Bleach. Not only that, but I'd also been reborn as said Strawberries twin brother. This is gonna be fun…
Growing up was...interesting to say the least. I wasn't dumb enough to believe I wouldn't be dragged into the events to come, I sweet talked my parents into getting me lessons in swordsmanship as well as as the canon karate training. I think it confused my Parents as to why I wanted both, but they allowed it. Of course, I wasn't as much of a crybaby as Ichigo, which meant that I had a much easier time befriending Tatuski by being one of the few people able to keep up with her.
Anyway, moving on. I'd like to say that I managed to keep Mom getting nommed by Fisher, but I guess things can't be changed. Oh, I was there and I tried to stop Ichigo, but the guy was both fast and surprisingly strong for his size, so he still went barrelling down into Fishers trap and Mom ended up dead. I still have no idea what exactly happened that day and nothing I could do helped pull Ichigo out of his funk. Damn heroes and their complexes...
But even with death as a constant reminder, life moves on. It took a while though. To begin with, we were all broken by the sudden hole in our lives. Dad was listless and barely seemed to be getting along day to day, while Yuzu spent most of her time crying with Karin trying to comfort her, despite the fact she wasn't much better and Ichigo did everything in his power to avoid us out of guilt. It was a horrible feeling, knowing that I was at least partly responsible for it thanks to my high Spiritual Power. Oh, don't look at me like that, its not like I could be weak considering my family! I have no idea if I'm as strong as Ichigo, but even if I had only half of his power, thats still more than enough to attract Hollows. It certainly didn't help that I was feeling Moms loss just as harshly as everyone else, despite my attempts to help my family.
I found myself spending more and more time away from the house, trying desperately to figure out what I could do to help, both now and in the future.
That led to my current situation, sitting on a grassy bank just outside an old abandoned factory that was just outside of town. I probably shouldn't have been there, but no one ever came out this way and it was rather quiet. Perfect for a place to ruminate over what the flying fuck I should do.
The biggest problem that I faced was the upcoming events of Canon. I had no idea how my presence would affect things. There was no way that having a twin brother wouldn't have an effect on Ichigo's mentality and I couldn't keep myself from doing so without disappearing into the woods or something. To make matters worse, I don't think I could stand back and watch Ichigo go into battle without some backup but without powers of my own I would be a sitting duck.
"Urg, this is gonna make me go grey," I growled as I flopped back in the grass and covered my eyes with my forearm, "Maybe I should approach the Ishida's for help? Urahara would be an option too, but I don't really fancy putting myself in his debt."
Honestly, as much as I liked Urahara as a character, I'm not about to trust the guy unless I had some power of my own. The biggest problem with that was the fact that I couldn't get my hands on Soul Reaper powers unless I either got my hands on an Asauchi somehow or got another Soul Reaper to give me their powers. Neither of which seemed very likely.
"Hmm, maybe I should talk to the Ishidas," I muttered, "Maybe Soken would teach me the basics at least…"
I sighed and got to my feet. I wasn't getting anywhere like this, so I should really be getting home. I had homework to finish anyway. I was about to walk away, but before I could, a loud crash from inside the factory made me jump.
"What the heck was that?" I muttered as I turned back and looked up at the cloud of dust rising from the other side of the fence.
The factory was old and abandoned, a result of something that happened about 50 years ago that caused a number of explosions on the property. No one was sure what caused them exactly, but the place had been shut down due to safety concerns. Shortly afterwards, the company that owned the place had gone bust and it was never used again. As a result, the place was abandoned and falling apart in places, so I guess that something collapsing wasn't that surprising.
What was surprising was that something was thrown out of the dust cloud and towards me.
I stumbled back a few steps as the glinting object dropped out of the sky and slammed into the ground a few inches from my feet. I stared at the shining blade of the katana that had just literally dropped out of the sky in no small amount of disbelief. What the flying fuck was a katana doing in an abandoned factory?
I frowned as I stepped forwards and took a closer look at the weapon. There was something...off about it. Some kind of aura that felt almost...eager. I hesitated for a moment, then slowly reached out and gripped the hilt. I felt an odd tingling feeling run down my arm.
Then, the blade exploded.
After a few seconds of blinking, I realised I was no longer stood outside the factory. Instead, I was stood in a massive, vaulted hall with a distinctly Grasian theme that looked oddly familiar.
"What the fuck?" I muttered as I looked around, "Where am I?"
"Hey, you can't be here yet!" shouted a female voice that was oddly familiar, "Get out!"
"Ah, not so loud Shiro!" said a second, also familiar voice, "But shes right, now isn't the time. Off you go Master."
I spun around and my eyes went very wide.
"What the...your…"
I jolted awake, finding myself once again in Karakura Town holding the sword. However, it had changed shape, going from a generic Katana to one with a fairly simple rectangular tsuba stamped with the symbol for pluto for some bizarre reason and a pale blue wrapped hilt. It had also gained a wine red sheath from somewhere.
I stared down at what had been an unbound Asauachi as I tried to figure out what in the fuck just happened. I was sure I'd just met someone, but for the life of me, I couldn't figure out who. However, I got the distinct impression that it was going to make my life rather difficult.
Surprisingly, after finding my Zanpakuto, nothing really changed. After figuring out how to disguise it as a rather snazzy cane with a dogs head shaped handle, I hid it in my room and went about my life. I did make a point to train with the sword fairly regularly though and I'm fairly sure that it was actually helping me because I found myself beginning to use it quite differently than I would with a normal sword. Not too surprising, but despite that, I still couldn't figure out how to contact the Spirit within, no matter how hard I tried. The main impression I got was that I wasn't ready, which…wasn't entirely surprising considering I was still a kid.
Eventually though, the inevitable happened and the worst part was, I wasn't ready for it. Oh, I knew that it was coming, I'm not stupid, but the timeline in Bleach has always been a bit sketchy to say the least. I know that there is an actual timeline, complete with dates, but because its not really something that ever appears in the story, its not something I know about. As a result, when Fishbone D decided to drop by, I was taken completely by surprise. I suppose I could have figured it out from the interaction between my Dad and Ichigo, but I had already excused myself to deal with some homework by the time Ichigo got home.
The first I knew about it was a loud howl that made me jump out of my skin, followed by a scream and a crash. Without thinking, I snatched up my Zanpakuto and ran for the stairs. Unfortunately for me, while I obviously knew what Hollows looked like, I'd never actually seen one in real life. As a result, coming face to mask with a monster taller than the room was enough to make me freeze for just long enough for Fishbone Ds arm to snap out and send me flying through the wall and into the clinic area. My head meeting the hardwood reception desk was enough to send me to a premature sleep.
Consciousness returned to me slowly and painfully. I groaned in pain as I tried to open my eyes, only to be forced to close them again in the face of a bright light shining directly into my eyes. After a few seconds of blinking, my vision cleared and I had just enough time to register what looked like a vaulted throne room, before I was knocked off my feet by a warm missile. I stared up at the black ceiling for a moment as my brain rebooted for the second time in as many minutes, before I looked down at the girl currently laying on my chest. Sniffing me.
The girl in question was short, with long black hair tied into pigtails and a pair of red headphones with floppy dog ears attached. She was wearing a pink sailor top with a red ribbon, a white skirt, black stockings and white pumps. She also had a red collar with a broken chain around her neck.
"Sniff sniff, yep, no mistaking this scent!" she said, then sat up straddling me and beamed down at me, "Hi Master, I'm Kuro!"
I stared at her uncomprehendingly. After a moment, her smile slipped and she lent down until her nose was nearly touching mine.
"Master? Are you OK?" she asked, then shot up with a horrified gasp, "OHGOSH, IBROKEMASTER!"
I scowled and sat up, planting a hand on her head to cut off the barrage of babble.
"I'm not broken," I said, "Now get off."
Kuro's grin quickly returned and she dutifully hopped off, letting me get back to my feet. As I did, I finally got a chance to look around and quickly realised that my surroundings looked a lot like the House of Hades from, well, Hades, which…was actually quite appropriate when you consider who Kuro actually is.
"Where am I?" I asked.
"Oh, I can answer that!" said Kuro, "This is your inner world! Come on, I'll show you around!"
She seized my hand and dragged me off down the hall towards the desk where Hades was found in the game. As she did, I spotted her floofy, grey tail wagging behind her. For a moment, I was tempted to give it a squeeze, but quickly decided it was better if I didn't. I liked my head where it was and I didn't fancy losing it to a cheesed off Cerberus. Instead, I decided to get some answers.
"Hey, wait a minute! I shouted, digging my heels into the floor to stop the exuberant girl, "I still have questions!"
Thankfully, Kuro stopped because I didn't really have a chance to get her to stop if she didn't want to. She turned and looked at me with a curious look on her face.
"Alright, first question," I said, "If this is my inner world, I take it, you are my power?"
"Yup," said Kuro with a grin, "Part of it anyway. The others are around somewhere, but they're sleeping at the moment."
"And the others would be Shirogane and Rose, right?"
"Yep!"
I sighed.
"Well, thats…a thing I suppose," I muttered, "I assume that you are each one part of my power?"
Kuro nodded, her smile shifting slightly. For a moment, I was tempted to ask which she was, before deciding against it. Those questions could be answered later and, to be frank, I didn't much care. I adored all three of the characters, so I'd figure it out later. I did have my guesses though.
"So, can you tell me your name?" I asked, "I assume that my sword isn't called Kuro?"
Kuro shook her head.
"Nope, we have our own names, but together we're Madara!"
I blinked.
"Wait, Madara?" I asked, "Why…"
I trailed off as I put two and two together. One of the kanji for Madara meant spots and Cerberus also meant spot. That…is an awful pun and absolutely one I would come up with. I made a mental note to try releasing it later and turned back to Kuro.
"Alright, now thats a bit clearer, I'll take that tour," I said.
Kuro's grin came back with a vengeance and she seized my hand again. I had just enough time to bemoan my fate and wonder how a part of myself could be so energetic before my arm was nearly yanked out of my shoulder by an over energetic Cerberus girl.
Soooo…I've had this in my Gdocs for a while and, after stumbling on it, I figured I might as well finish of the chapter, if only because the idea is fun and its inspired me to read the Manga again.
Anyone want to guess which girl represents which part of Kaiens power? If you've read the Manga, you might have a leg up in one of them.
Anyway, its been way to long for me to actually say much here, so I'll leave it here. Don't forget to leave a review on the way out!
