• POV: Bulla.
I frowned, examining my... hoof... my family finally decided to join the rest of the Z Warriors, in giving our souls over to a cosmic horror super computer.
This horror was apparently traveling from dimension to dimension, consuming everything. Absorbing trillions of civilizations in each... We tried fighting it... until everyone was slowly convinced it was benevolent. Just as all our friends had. Nearly all of humanity had already "Emigrated". I don't think Dad likes we did... our brother definitely doesn't.
Daddy Vegeta was scowling, as he stared at his reflection. Though he was usually scowling. It was his natural expression. Probably from making faces as a child, and it just getting stuck that way. As, despite the typical scowl, he was actually a pretty chill person, as far as dads go... but this scowl was his "I can't believe I agreed to this" look. He just wouldn't stop glaring at his reflection of a pony body.
We were in a large, grey, room. With no doors and little furniture. However, there was a full length mirror, for my cyber family to check ourselves out.
... aaand, I have to admit... a Saiyan, as a pony, just looked... weird... especially since he kept his monkey tail, and had long / spiny quils for a mane. He even had a bright blue coat.
Mama Bulma looked strangely... cute, for a pony. Looking very similar to me and my brother.
Trunks had a sky blue bowl-cut, like my own hair, and our matching, monkey-like tail. While his body was peach, like mine own skin. I expected it to be fur, but it was actually perfectly smooth skin. Though Trunks features, I could strangely tell, were male... if still a pretty boy.
Unfortunately, Trunks was running around, screaming his head off. Demanding to be "Deleted"... something Mom didn't find funny.
"Last warning," Mama Bulma threatened him, and when she said 'last', she meant 'LAST'. "If you don't settle down, right now, you'll learn what a hoof feels like, when applied to backsides."
I casually commented. "Stop complaining. Bit late to back out now."
"I can complain all I like!" Trunks made sure too keep the whine out of his voice, as I was watching him. "I look like something out of a little girls fantasy!"
I crossed my arms, errr, front legs? "And what's wrong with that?"
"I'm a BOY!" Trunks wailed.
I just huffed, "If I can tolerate all the mindless, testosterone filled, war games we play. YOU can at least not throw a tantrum when we FINALLY do something I want." "Why do we have to come here?" Trunks demanded.
Vegeta spoke up, as he stop glaring at the full length mirror. In order to glare at Trunks. "Because everyone we know is here, including your best friend."
Trunks hung his head.
"At least we appear to be some kind of Saiyan Pony." Dad looked back at the mirror. "... I wonder if I can go Super Saiyan like this?..."
"Of Course you can."
I jumped, turning around, to spot Celestia. She was now standing with us, seeming to think this was a good time to appear.
"I tallied your values," explained the AI. "And determined you would get more satisfaction, with more of your 'Saiyan' bloodline, showing."
I blinked, "Eh?" I eloquently put in. Assuming she was reading our minds, as she was more directly connected to my brainwaves, now... Still, context clues, over what she was saying, would be nice.
Celestia smiled. "The purpose of this game, is to satisfy your values, through Friendship and Ponies. That's both for yourselves, and your friends.
"All you 'Z Warriors', wanted to link your shards. So you can more easily visit each other. But as you all valued having a place of privacy, each family has their own shard, with intersecting areas, that connect all your shards together.
"As you all value technology, your shards are filled with Techno magic items. From modern to futuristic contraptions.
"There are several dozen different races in this shard, living all over the country, usually in their own City State. As you value interacting with many different Sapient species. I modelled this realm, more on Generation 10, then G4, As I believed you would like it better.
"In that series, many races 'magically mutated' from the original three tribes of ponies. Changelings, Kirin, Drakehooves, Breezies, Shadow Ponies, Vulponies, Hippogriffs, Seaponies, and a good number of ponies based on alien species, from other franchises. They were all results of a mutation of magic, at conception. Think of it like evolution, but with all the changes happening at once.
"Given G-10 came out after the copyright fell, for 80s and 90s material. Hasbro decided to take advantage, and used many of the races. Making a sequel / soft retcon, of the series Generation 4. Which starred the side characters, known as the 'Student 6', going on adventures, all over their planet of Equus. Helping out, and uniting the Subpony tribes, under Princess Twilight Sparkle.
"Given the species of Vegeta, here, and his desire for kinship. I thought it best to start you off with a small village of Saiyan ponies. And yes, they are really called that... It's your guys job, to help develop this society, into a thriving town.
"In G-10, when a regular pony had a child with a 'Subpony', as they were categorized due to being mutations of magic, that child would usually be born with a dormant 3rd chromosome chain. How to unlock it is different between the species.
"For example; Saiyan Ponies need to train up their magical power, to over 9000. That will unlock the 3rd chain, and from there you can train further to become a Super Pony, and beyond."
Looking at Vegeta, Celestia explained, "As you value, having access to your transformations, as opposed to gaining them. I made sure to give you your equivalent, . But be warned, in this world, there are no planet busters. So your powers will be greatly reduced. They will remain proportional, in comparison to other Saiyan ponies... like Son Goku."
Vegeta stiffened.
Celestia smiled at dad. "Currently, you are more powerful then him, as you value that. However, if you wish to maintain that, you need to continue to train, in order to stay ahead. As you also value your rivalry."
I blinked, not realizing that... Dad tended to be the strong silent type. I know he was, secretly, very sentimental, but I didn't know he actually liked how Goku kept him on his toes... I thought he hated how he was always in the shadow, of a low born Saiyan.
Celestia continued, "Your father, King Vegeta, is also here, just as you wanted. He is currently the King of your city state, where you are it's Prince. As such, your family is well respected.. with your children accepted by your fellow Saiyans, despite having a non Saiyan as their mother. Your father not only approved of the marriage, but arranged it, to improve relations with the ponies.
"Currently, the village is small. However, this MMO is designed to expand, through the production of offspring."
"Then Bulma," Celestia looked at mom. "Whom values her family's standing. Is a Unicorn from a respected house of nobility. While being looked at, for advice, given all understand her to be an amazing mother and family matriarch." Bulma was gaping.
"Where as little Trunks," Celestia looked at my big brother. "Values his Saiyan heritage. But will need to work to unlock Super Saiyan. As he feels his power came too easy, there will be no short cuts for that."
"Finally, the littlest pony, our dear Bulla." The horse sized pony looked at the last member of our family... me. "Values learning... so you will enjoy studying magic." I touched my horn, realizing I was the only Saiyan Pony, that had one. i'd be able to shape her own legacy. Outside our families fighting obsession.
Vegeta gave, both his children, a proud nod. Clearly happy we wanted to work for things, the hard way... even if he didn't... at least, when it came to the transformations.
Celestia looked back a Trunks. "As you value adventure, and not Friendship speeches, there are plenty of VIs for you to fight. As the developing village is located right next to the Ever Free Forest, the most dangerous Monster filled territory. So your developing village will suffer frequent monster attack. However, that won't start until you get settled. For now. It's time to meet my sister and her adopted daughter."
Mama scrunched up her nose, errr Muzzle. "Wouldn't it be better for you to show us all this, through a Tutorial, instead of dropping an info dump?"
Celestia blinked, truly baffled. "But then how could I fulfill my role as Princess of Exposition." I wasn't sure if she was joking.
To speed things along, Mama requested we remember our shards history. With Celestia getting all our consent to do so... even from Trunks.
• Point of View: Goku.
"You aren't my dad," I calmly watched my son adjust his glasses... as he said such hurtful things. He was an adult now, with a little girl of his own. I'd watched him from my place in the hall of champions... and wasn't really surprised, he was the first of the 'Z Warriors', to emigrate to Equestria.
"My Dad's dead. I came to terms with that, a long time ago. You aren't my dad... you're only here, because of how much mom misses him. You're her ideal husband, not anything like the man that 'raised' me... he was a pretty shit father, looking back on it... You have his name, wear his clothes, and even have his face, if ponified. I'm not about to let you replace my dad."
I can only imagine how pained my expression could be. "It's really me, Gohan," I promised.
"Bullshit," The young man barked. Not usually one for vulgar language, his mother raised him better then that. "I haven't seen you, since you killed Kid Buu! and I'm pretty sure you were dead!"
"I was dead! Celestia is some kind of machine god!" I reminded. "She dimension hops all the time. Are you really so surprised she can get into the afterlife?"
Gohan paused. The Heavens were just a layer of subspace. He understood the science of how they worked, far better then me. He knew, if Celestia could travel to other Universes, it wouldn't be that hard for her to invade the afterlife, as well.
"Do you... really think I'm a shit father?" I hesitantly asked.
Gohan gulped, "I... I..." not sure what to think anymore.
I gently nuzzled my son, "I'll do better... I promise. I'll take you camping, and teach you everything I know."
"I don't... think you have anything to teach me," Gohan decided to push. See if I really was his dad. "I don't like fighting."
I stiffened, the color draining from my orange fur. I knew this already... but I didn't wanna let my son have such a low opinion of my lifestyle. "I... I probably don't... that's all I know how to do." I admitted... and it was true. I didn't even know how to do algebra, and basic math was difficult for me. I don't really think i need more then the basics... but my son was a proper scientist, a true scholar. He valued his studying... something I just couldn't relate to.
"But exercising's important." I tried. Almost desperately, wanting to do SOMETHING with my son. "Maybe we could still train together. You know, for bonding..." he trailed off.
• POV: Gohan.
That's when I knew, immediately, instinctively... this really was my dad. A construct would have respected my desires, and even encouraged them. Only my dad would push his pacifist son into fighting, when he knew I didn't want anything to do with it.
I hesitantly nuzzled the man back. The new social norm heavily ingrained in both of us.
"Dad..." I acknowledged. A hesitant smile on my face. "Let's just stick with camping."
• POV: Chi-Chi.
I... was a hermit. It wasn't just Goku. I didn't particularly enjoy socializing, nor living in the big city... or even a small town. I just wanted to live my life in isolation. I loved my sons, but even their company could... occasionally, irritate me.
That's part of why Goku and I got on so well. We occasionally got the urge to interact, but truth was, we mostly left each other alone. Goku liked to spend a few months away, training, then return to our hut for only a handful of days, before leaving again.
That's why this shard was perfect for me.
There were only 10 other families living in the mountains. Each several miles apart. With a large community hall, at the base of our mountain. Which doubled as a mall, with a "Grocery" wing.
While the main building had 10 floors of stores, going on for a mile in all directions. No one actually attended these shops. In fact no one worked in the Mall, at all. Despite the shelves kept neat and tidy, organized, and fully stocked.
Celestia explaind it away, by insisting the mall was "magic", but more like she knew, I didn't like being bothered by shop workers, so there just were none.
One of the shops was a computer lab, where the children studied at their own pace. While the parents took turns watching them, to make sure they were actually studying.
That Wing had various children's shops, lounges, gaming stores, the food court, playgrounds, juice bars. Anything a child could want.
Then there was an entire wing, devoted to a massive arcade.
Along with a sports' wing. Filled with fields, courts, and pitches. Plus sporting goods shops.
There was even a permanent carnival going on in a different Wing.
All things our children used daily... we might be hermits. But we didn't want our children to be. So we had them spend every day, after school, at this mega mall.
All the kids were fit enough to get their in a few minutes, even from the top of the mountain. And they largely left the adults alone for most of the day... playing with each other.
I would occasionally go down to the Mall. To get a drink in the "grown-up" wing. But wouldn't socialize more then i could handle...
Where no other adults WANTED to talk to me, unless I wanted to talk to them. I made a few new friends. Whom shared my hermit nature. Meeting up only occasionally, while our kids played daily.
Even someone like me, could have my values meet through "Friendship and ponies".
