Night had fallen over the city of Berk once more, while the daily life of the citizens slowed down, finally free of the hustle and bustle of the daytime. Masses of people traveled down the streets in their preferred mode of transportations, heading towards their destinations, let it be their home where they can take a break, or some cafe or restaurant where they will meet up with someone, or some other recreational activities.
The city kept going, never stopping for anyone. But even amongst the slow crawl of city life, even amongst the quiet lives of the citizens, an unspoken message, a rule, was engraved.
The night didn't belong to them.
For ages the night, the darkness it brought had allowed many criminals and villains to project their powers on the common folk. Night was their ally at spreading their blood drenched claws of terror further and further. But now, it is different. The night was different.
The night has now taken the side of a new entity, the darkness now its weapon. And it was only a matter of time before the night brought down its wrath on a new victim.
…
At Hamish port, one of the ports along the coastline of the city of Berk, a level of activity was going on. Many people worked in tandem, moving big crates around as they set up a scene.
Two men struggled as they almost dropped a crate.
"What're you two doing!?" Someone barked at them.
They turned towards the direction of the voice, and saw a man approaching them.
He was dressed in full black clothing, consisting of a combat uniform with exposed arms, bullet resistant vest, and a utility belt. He has a dark skin tone, short crew cut black hair and a french beard. His brown eyes were contorted into a frown and a scar ran down his right eye.
This man, he was none other than the infamous mercenary,…. Krogan.
"Come on! Move it faster! Quick, quick!" Krogan ordered the workers.
The men scrambled back to do their job and carried the crate to its destination. Krogan watched over everything that was going on. Many of these workers were setting up a scene at the port. A scene of a drug deal was being created to lure in their target, the Nightfury.
Several more of his men, dressed similar to him, were checking their equipment and scouting out best positions to set up an ambush.
In a short while, the scene was set up, and so was their ambush. He and his men had taken their position in several buildings watching over the area where they had set up their scene. It was now a game of patience as they waited for their target.
In one of the buildings, two mercenaries had taken position, armed with M4A1 carbines. They were checking up on their weapons, running some last minute checks.
"This will be some easy money." One of them said,
"Why? Don't you know we're here for the Nightfury?" The other asked.
"You fool, Nightfury is fake! It's a myth, a story made up by the bigshots to cover up their dirty works. You really think just one man alone can take out entire gangs in the span of one night?" the first one argued.
"Turk said he once saw the Nightfury." his companion retaliated
"Turk says a lot of things. Not all of them are true." He replied, as he started to walk towards a spot to look over the area,"Some other gang will probably turn up here any moment now to cash in on those crates and they'd put the blame on Nightfury if they succeed. Nothing we haven't dealt with before, aigh?"
He turned back to see his companion, but his companion wasn't there.
"Dan? Dan! Where the heck did you run off now? Boss would be mad if we left our position." The mercenary called out as he went to look for his companion.
He went deeper inside the building, using his torch to light up the dark indoors, when suddenly he stepped into some puddle of liquid, creating a splash noise. He looked down, aiming his torch at what he stepped on and was surprised and slightly scared to see it was a small puddle of blood, with a narrow trail of blood behind it.
He followed the trail with his torch light, and ended up illuminating the beaten and bleeding and unconscious form of his companion, sitting on the floor with his back against a wall.
"What the hell…." He gasped in horror and recoiled back.
The mercenary frantically looked around, trying to find whoever had done that. "Where the heck are you!?" he screamed out as he slowly backed up.
But then suddenly, he felt the presence of someone behind him and he felt a chill run down his spine as a bead of sweat rolled down the side of his forehead. The screams of the mercenary never made it to anyone's ears as he too was taken out.
Some time later, in another building, another one of Krogan's men was pushed up against a wall as his assistant continuously punched him in the face, reducing it into a battered bloodied mess as the mercenary had gone unconscious.
A little later, in another building A mercenary was looking through a window, his rifle aimed down at the area he was looking over. Suddenly he heard some noise behind him. He was about to turn around to check it, when suddenly he was kicked behind his knee. The mercenary grunted and dropped on his knee due to the hit, but before he could do anything, a hand clamped over his mouth and another grabbed the back of his head, before slamming his head against the wall.
The Mercenaries screams were muffled by the hand clamped over his mouth as the unseen assailant continued to slam his head against the wall again and again until blood splattered and stained the wall and the mercenary had fallen unconscious, at which point the unknown entity let him go, dropping him on the floor.
…
Krogan had taken his spot in a big two story warehouse. It has a large glass panel window on the upper floor, overlooking the dock, through which Krogan was monitoring the place for any activities. His MK-12 SPR was held securely in his arms as he occasionally stared through the adjustable scope to look for his target.
He checked his wrist watch. 9:30 PM. Yet, there was still no sign of his target. If the target didn't come tonight, he and his men would have to set up an ambush another day, and potentially at another place.
Krogan was thinking about all that, when he suddenly noticed something from the corner of his left eye. He quickly whipped his head around to check what it was, when from the darkness something dashed out and he was kicked in the torso, throwing him back.
Time seemed to slow down for Krogan as he was thrown back by the powerful kick, and he could see a dark figure in front of him, who had delivered the attack.
Krogan was thrown on the floor, his rifle dropping beside him, and both slid down the floor a little. The mercenary looked up and his eyes widened in shock and fear. In front of him, just a few feets away, was standing a man clad in black armor…… the myth, the terror, the devil... The Nightfury.
Krogan immediately rolled back onto his feet, grabbing his rifle and pointing it at the Nightfury, but by the time he did all that and pulled the trigger, Nightfury had already closed in the distance between them and grabbed the barrel of his rifle, pointing it away from him as a burst of bullets sped out of the barrel.
Krogan stepped back, trying to free his weapon from his opponent's grip. He tried to grab Nightfury's arm, but the vigilante beat struck his hand away, before throwing a jab aimed for his throat. The counter attack disorientated him a bit and caused him to stagger back a bit, giving Nightfury the time to take out the magazine from the rifle.
But before he could do anything more, Krogan rammed Nightfury with his shoulder, freeing his weapon and also pushing the vigilante back. He aimed his rifle again, intending to use the bullet loaded in the chamber, but Nightfury sidestepped, getting out of his line of sight before striking the rifle, throwing off his aim entirely.
Nightfury quickly followed it up with a punch to Krogan's gut, and then struck him across his face with his elbow, both moves making Krogan lose grip on his weapon as the vigilante grabbed the rifle and pulled the bolt back, ejecting out the bullet, and in the process hit Krogan in the face with his elbow, staggering the mercenary enough to allow him to disarm Krogan and push him back with a kick.
Krogan staggered back, shaking his head as he tried to get his bearings together. He looked up and his eyes widened as he quickly leapt back, avoiding an incoming hook from the Nightfury. Krogan raised his arms to shield himself and backed up as Nightfury followed up his attack with a flurry of jabs.
Krogan took another step back, spreading his feet wide apart as he shifted his weight onto his left foot and threw a quick left hook, striking Nightfury across his face, and causing him to stagger back. Not willing to lose the momentum, Krogan pushed himself forward with his right foot, propelling himself forward as he threw a fast cross at Nightfury.
To his surprise, Nightfury ducked under the attack and dodged it and the vigilante retaliated with a spinning hook kick. Krogan also ducked under the kick to dodge it and immediately backed up to put some distance between him and Nightfury.
But before Krogan could plan his next move, Nightfury charged at him again. Dodging the punch-hook combo that Nightfury threw at him, Krogan quickly reached for the knife hidden in his leg protection and delivered a slash as he pulled it out.
Nightfury quickly leapt back to avoid the incoming slash, and Krogan took the time to get into a stance, holding the knife in a reverse grip before switching to a forward grip. He then charged forward, throwing two quick slashes with his knife, which Nightfury dodged by stepping back. But Krogan quickly closed in the distance and switched to a reverse grip as he raised his hand and brought it down to stab Nightfury, reinforcing the attack by using his other hand to apply more pressure.
The vigilante managed to block this attack with his arm, holding Krogan's own arm back to prevent the knife from getting closer. Krogan pushed his knife forward, but Nightfury quickly redirected the stab, and followed it up with a headbutt, which dazed Krogan, allowing Nightfury to push him back.
Krogan tried to retaliate, switching to a forward grip as he went for a low cut, which Nightfury evaded. Krogan did a follow up with the same attack, but this time, Nightfury captured his wrist and hand with his hands and hooked his palm onto the butt of the knife and pulled onto it, disarming him.
Krogan pulled his hand out of Nightfury's grasp with a grunt, and threw a jab, which Nightfury dodged by side stepping and raising his arm to shield himself and threw a right hook in return, hitting Krogan square in the jaw. He tried to follow up with a left hook, but Krogan ducked under the attack.
The mercenary then hit back with an uppercut, hitting Nightfury at the right side of his ribs and followed up with a wild haymaker, knocking the vigilante back. Krogan then charged forward, grabbing him by the shoulders as he delivered a knee to his gut, but as he attempted to repeat the attack, Nightfury blocked his knee with the palm of his hand, before using his other arm to throw off Krogan's grip on his shoulder and striking him in the face a couple times, before Krogan caught his arm and swiftly moved behind Nightfury in order to wrap his arms around the vigilante to subdue him.
Both fidgeted and twisted and turned around and around, with Krogan trying to gain the upper hand, and Nightfury trying to get him off his back before it's too late, when finally, with one final turning, Nightfury managed to grab Krogan and threw him over his shoulder, towards the big glass panel window.
As he got up, Krogan tried to pull out his handgun, but before he could even pull it out from its holster, Nightfury brought out his own handgun and shot at him, all in the blink of an eye. The bullet hit Krogan in the wrist, causing him to drop his gun and yell out in pain.
Seeing his situation, Krogan realized this wasn't a fight he could win anymore, and escape was necessary. So, he did the only thing he could to escape from there. He dashed towards the large glass window, and crashed against it, breaking the glass and throwing himself out of the warehouse. The time seemed to momentarily slow down for Krogan as he threw himself out, glass fragments flying around him. He fell through the air and dropped on the ground, as several broken pieces of glass fell around him and shattered further with the impact.
Krogan slowly raised on his knees, panting heavily. His wrist was aching and bleeding, and he had received several cuts and scratches on his exposed skin when he leapt through the window.
He looked up at the window and his eyes went wide with what he saw. He immediately rolled out of the way as Nightfury landed where Krogan was a few moments ago.
Krogan stared at the vigilante, as he slowly looked at him. Krogan felt a chill run down his spine and he quickly scrambled back onto his feet and ran off. Nightfury quickly leapt after him as he pulled out his gun and shot at Krogan. The mercenary ducked his head as he heard three shots, two of which hit his back.
He was almost thrown off his feet by the impact, but managed to keep running while his vest protected him from the bullets while he escaped from the dock with Nightfury hot on his trail.
…
On a quiet street side, Senior agent Theodore "Thuggory" Griffins was standing in front of a street food stall, waiting for the owner of the stall to prepare his snack as he gave out his suggestions for condiments to put on his hamburger.
It was 9:48 PM, and nothing exciting was happening yet. Or so it seemed to Thuggory. As the stall owner handed him the hamburger, Thuggory picked a dollar from the cash box of the stall and dropped it beside the cash box.
"Here's your money." Thuggory said, and picked up a couple more dollars and shoved them in the pocket of his jacket.
"Come on, man, my kids back at home are hungry." The stall owner wailed.
"Why? They don't like your food?" Thuggory laughed and walked away, biting on his burger.
The stall owner shook his head in annoyance and frustration, but what could he do against a lawman?
Thuggory walked back to his car, an Audi A7. It was an expensive ride, costing him a little over a hundred grand, quite out of his pay grade. He sat inside his car and continued munching on his burger when he received a call.
He pulled out his phone and saw the call is from his guy in the police. Thuggory received the call and pressed the phone against his ear. "Hello?"
"Sir, the department got some reports on something happening at Hamish port. And gunshots have been heard in that area. The department also received some reports of a guy dressed in black chasing after another guy dressed in black military suit in an area close to the port." His contact said.
"Hmph, alright. Thanks for the tip. I'll see into that." Thuggory replied.
"Glad to help sir." The contact said, and Thuggory ended the call.
"So the vigilante showed himself tonight." Thuggory mumbled,"This should be interesting. At least I'll have something interesting to tell."
…
Astrid was driving down the road towards her home. Today had been hectic and she decided to leave the office early to have a good night's rest.
Just then, she got a call. Pulling out her phone, she saw the call is from Berk police department. She received the call and put it on loudspeaker as she put the phone in the phone holder on the dashboard.
"Hello?"
"Agent Hofferson, I'm speaking from the Berk police department. We've just received several reports regarding Nightfury, and my superiors commanded me to contact you, since you're doing an investigation about him." The person on the other side said.
"Nightfury? What happened this time?" She asked, sounding a little unenthusiastic.
"We've gotten reports of him chasing what appears to be some sort of military personnel through the streets."
"What!?" Astrid shouted as she slammed her foot down on the break, causing her car to come at a screeching stop. "Where?" she hurriedly asked.
"7th avenue, near Hamish port."
"Alright. I'm on my way." Astrid replied with a frown and pressed down on the gas pedal. Her car roared up, and she did a 180 degree turn and headed towards her new destination.
…
Krogan ran through the streets of Berk, pushing and shoving people out of his path. He glanced behind him, and saw Nightfury still after him. The pedestrians would get out of the way of them as the vigilante chased after the mercenary.
Krogan ran into the road, running towards the other side as a car came to a screeching stop to avoid hitting him. Behind him, Nightfury jumped over the car, sliding across the bone of the car before landing back on his feet as he continued to chase after Krogan.
Krogan glanced behind him, and seeing Nightfury still hot on his trail, headed inside an alleyway, with the vigilante following after him. As Krogan ran, he dropped a trash bin in the alleyway to put some hindrance in Nightfury's path, but the vigilante simply jumped over the obstacle.
As Krogan came out of the other side of the alleyway, he noticed an area opposite to him which was barricaded with a tall wire fence, with an equally tall double door wire fence gate, and he immediately started to climb it.
By the time Nightfury came out of the alleyway, Krogan had already climbed over the tall wire fence gate. But as he was climbing down on the other side, Nightfury came and kicked the door, causing him to lose his grip and fall down on the ground. Krogan got up with a grunt and continued to run, as Nightfury jumped and grabbed onto the tall wire fence, immediately climbing over the fence and dropping down and landing on the ground before continuing his pursuit.
Their chase eventually led them to a bridge, where Krogan started to climb down the stairs leading to the bottom road in an attempt to throw off the vigilante from his trail. Nightfury followed after him too, but as Krogan made his way down before him, Nightfury, instead of continuing down the stairs, jumped over the stair railing and dropped down on the ground below to continue the chase.
As he was chasing after Krogan, on the opposite side, Astrid was driving down the same road. As Astrid drove by, she noticed the two, Nightfury and Krogan, running in the opposite direction to where she was heading. Seeing the vigilante, Astrid immediately did a u-turn and went after them.
Krogan and the Nightfury slipped onto a road on the other side of a line of buildings through another alleyway, while on the other part of the same area, Astrid was driving her car, trying to predict where the vigilante would be and intercept him.
Krogan kept running and running, trying to ignore the exhaustion and the soreness in his leg muscles. His lungs felt like burning, but he didn't stop. The demon behind him was still on his trail and his chances of escape were starting to get slim as he could feel himself slowing down a bit due to the exhaustion.
He crossed the road, which was rather vacant, and as the vigilante followed after him and was almost in the middle of the road, Astrid suddenly came into the scene and hit Nightfury with her car before coming to a stop, sending the vigilante sprawling on the road. Krogan came to a halt and looked back at the scene, surprised by the sudden intervention.
Astridid glanced at Krogan, and the mercenary sped off, quickly running out of there. Astrid then looked back at the vigilante as he was slowly getting himself off the ground. She got out of her car and pointed her handgun at the vigilante. "B.S.D.I! Freeze!" She commanded.
The Nightfury slowly and silently stood up, pieces broken off of his mask were on the ground, and then the vigilante looked at her. The time seemed to freeze around them as Astrid stared at the vigilante, catching a glimpse of the bright forest green eye through the damaged/broken mask. The Nightfury then quickly turned around and began running.
Astrid, broken out of her stupor, quickly chased after him. "Hey! Stop!" She called out as she went after the vigilante.
Astrid restrained herself from shooting at him in order to not harm the civilians, as she ran after him. The vigilante headed inside an alleyway, and seeing it Astrid headed in there too. As she got into the alleyway, she could see him running towards the brightly shining other side of the alleyway and continued her pursuit.
But the vigilante was faster as he soon made it to the other side, disappearing into
When Astrid ran out of the alleyway, and found herself on a busy street, bustling with activity and citizens going around. Astrid frantically looked around, trying to find the vigilante, to catch a glimpse of him somewhere, anywhere. But there was none.
Astrid stood there and panted, the disappointment of failure lingering in the back of her mind. Her target was gone. He had simply disappeared,... Like a ghost.
The only thing left behind was the image of that forest green eye that was burned in her mind.
AUTHOR'S NOTE:- Hello guys, Commander Alfa here. Hope you liked the chapter.
I'd like to apologize for the delays in uploads. I'd also like to apologise if this chapter feels a bit sloppy. I'd admit that this chapter was quite a bit rushed towards the end. College has been tough, and planning out these chapters are sometimes easier said than done. Hopefully, I'll be able to finish my other chapters fast and upload them soon enough.
Anyways, that's all. Have a good day or night or whatever time of day it is at your place. See you all in the next chapter. Bye guys. Alfa out. Peace.
