Junior Division Preliminary Round
It is the next day at Manalo Stadium; thousands of people were sitting, waiting for the Junior Divison to begin. Among the people were the Eds and their families, Jimmy's parents, and Maxiley, sitting in the front row.
"Oh, I can't wait to see our little girl battle." said Ed and Sarah's mother.
"How do you think she'll do?" asked Ed and Sarah's father.
"If our son and his friends were the ones who taught her to be a Pokemon trainer, then I'm sure she'll do just fine." said Ed and Sarah's mother.
"You think Jimmy will win?" Jimmy's mother asked his father.
"Don't know; but since the Eds taught him, I wouldn't be surprised if he at least makes it to the finals." replied Jimmy's father.
"I can't wait for this dumb kiddie tournament to end so I can cream pipsqueak in the grown-up's tournament." said Eddy's brother, making Eddy do an eye roll.
In the middle of the stadium, stood a woman with short black hair, wearing a pink, short sleeved, button up shirt with white flower designs, a white skirt, and sandals, holding a microphone while standing in front of a cameraman who was holding a news camera towards her.
"This is Eleu Oliana, coming to you live at the Manalo Stadium where the Junior's Division of the very first Alola League is about to place." said the woman, now identified as Eleu. "One of many talented young trainers will have the chance to become the first Alola League Junior Division champion. How's it looking in the audience, Uhane?"
In between two sections of bleachers, a man, wearing a blue, short sleeve, button up shirt with light green palm tree designs, beige slacks, and brown dress shoes, was holding a microphone while another cameraman with a news camera was standing in front of him, both standing on the stairs going down the section they were in.
"It's practically packed, Eleu." said the man, identified as Uhane. "You can see the eager expressions on the faces of everyone in this stadium." He looks around and sees the Eds. "Eleu; I think I see the Ed trio down in the front row!"
"The top trainers of the previous Lily of the Valley Conference?" asked Eleu. Uhane motions the cameraman to follow him, and he complied; they went down the stairs until they reached the Eds.
"Alola, Eds." said Uhane, getting the Eds' attention.
"Alola." replied Eddy, smiling.
"Are you three by any chance competing in the Manalo Conference?" asked Uhane.
"You bet we are." replied Eddy.
"So, why are you three here now?" asked Uhane.
"My little sister and her friend are competing in the Junior's Division." replied Ed.
"A younger sibling of one of the Ed trio competing in the Junior's Division?" replied Uhane. "I think this competition just got interesting."
"Indeed." said Edd.
Moments later, a man in a suit stood in the middle of the stadium with a microphone in his hand.
"Ladies and gentlemen; welcome to the Manalo Stadium where we are about to begin the Alola League's Junior Division Preliminary Matches." said the announcer. "One of the young trainers competing will have the chance of being the first Manalo Conference Junior's Division champion; without further delay, let's bring out the young trainers." Children began walking out of a stadium tunnel; soon, the Eds, theirs, and Jimmy's parents spot Sarah and Jimmy.
"There's Sarah, guys!" said Ed, pointing at Sarah.
"Hi, sweetie!" said Ed and Sarah's mother.
"Go get 'em, son!" said Jimmy's father.
"Go, Sarah!" said Ed and Sarah's father.
"BOOOO!" yelled Eddy's brother, getting smacked upside the head by his and Eddy's father.
All the junior trainers were soon standing at the center of the battle arena, waving at everyone in the crowd; as Sarah and Jimmy look around at their competition, they see their respective rivals who see them also and glare at them.
"I hope I battle Nancy soon." said Sarah.
"I want to battle Nathan." said Jimmy.
"Maybe we'll get lucky; my brother and his friends battled their rivals at the Lily of the Valley Conference after their preliminary matches." said Sarah.
"We can both hope." said Jimmy.
"In the preliminary round, trainers will battle each other until sixteen remain; those trainers will go on to the main tournament where they will compete." said the man. "Now let's get the preliminary matches underway!" Everyone, except Eddy's brother roared with applause.
On a giant stadium screen, two squares with pictures of random trainers was shown; it starts flipping through multiple images until they stop on Sarah, and a young boy with short blonde hair.
"Looks like I'm up first." said Sarah.
"I won't lose to some girl." said Sarah's opponent, making Sarah snarl at him, making the boy recoil in fear.
Moments later, Sarah was out on the field on one end of the battlefield, glaring at her opponent. Sarah and her opponent each pull out a pokeball.
"Spinda, go!" said Sarah's opponent, throwing a pokeball and releasing a bipedal, red and cream colored, pandalike Pokemon with swirly eyes. Edd points the Rotom Pokedex at the Pokemon.
"Spinda, the Spot Panda Pokemon. Each Spinda's spot pattern is different. With its stumbling movements, it evades opponents' attacks brilliantly!" said the Rotom Pokedex.
"Alomomola, go!" said Sarah, throwing Alomomola's pokeball and releasing her. "Alomomola, use Aqua Jet!" said Sarah. Alomomola becomes surrounded by water and she flies at Spinda, ramming it, and knocking it back.
"Spinda, use Dizzy Punch!" said Spinda's trainer. Spinda leaps at Alomomola while a rainbow-colored orb surrounds its paw and it punches Alomomola with it, damaging her.
"Alomomola, Water Pulse!" said Sarah. Alomomola forms a ball of water in front of her mouth, and she launches it at Spinda, hitting it, and dealing damage; Spinda begins stumbling around. "Looks like Spinda's confused."
"That would activate his Tangled Feet ability." said Spinda's trainer.
"What does that do?" asked Sarah.
"Increases his evasion when he's confused." said Spinda's trainer. "Spinda, use Psybeam!" Spinda fights through his confusion and fires a multicolored beam of energy from its paws, and it hits Alomomola, dealing damage.
"Alomomola, Double Slap!" said Sarah. Alomomola leaps at Spinda and tries to slap him with her tail, but he dodges the attack.
"Spinda, Double-Edge!" said Spinda's trainer. Unfortunately, confusion gets the better of him and he falls onto the ground, damaging himself.
"Alomomola, Wake-Up Slap!" said Sarah. Alomomola leaps at Spinda and slaps it across the face with her tail, dealing super effective damage; Spinda struggles to get up.
"Spinda, use Flail!" said Spinda's trainer; Spinda snaps out of his confusion and leaps at Alomomola.
"Use Protect!" said Sarah. A green force field appears around Alomomola and it blocks Spinda's attack. "Now use Brine!" Alomomola fires a stream of water out of her mouth, and it hits Spinda, knocking it to the ground, unconscious.
"Spinda is unable to battle. Alomomola wins the match. The winner of this match is Sarah." said an official.
"We did it, Alomomola!" said Sarah.
"That's my sister!" cheered Ed.
"Good job, sweetie!" said Ed and Sarah's mother.
"That was great, Sarah!" said Maxiley. Spinda's trainer returns Spinda to his pokeball. He walks over to Sarah and gives her pokedollars; he turns around and runs away, crying.
"What a baby." muttered Sarah. After several more matches, Nancy was facing a young girl with long, light brown hair, wearing a light pink sundress. Nancy and the girl each pull out a pokeball.
"Miltank, go!" said Nancy's opponent, throwing a pokeball and releasing a pink, cowlike Pokemon with a yellow belly and a black head with a pink face. Edd points the Rotom Pokedex at the Pokemon.
"Miltank, the Milk Cow Pokemon. Its milk is delicious and chock-full of nutrients. However, if you drink too much, it could make your stomach hurt, so be careful." said the Rotom Pokedex.
"Gorebyss, go!" said Nancy, throwing a pokeball and releasing a pink, serpentine Pokemon with a long, thin mouth. Edd points the Rotom Pokedex at the Pokemon.
"Gorebyss, the South Sea Pokemon, and the evolved form of Clamperl. It sucks bodily fluids out of its prey. The leftover meat sinks to the seafloor, where it becomes food for other Pokémon." said the Rotom Pokedex.
"Nancy's Clamperl must've evolved." said Edd.
"Gorebyss, Aqua Tail!" said Nancy. Gorebyss leaps at Miltank while water surrounded its tail.
"Miltank, Defense Curl!" said Miltank's trainer. Miltank curls into a ball before Gorebyss' tail hits it but not dealing much damage due to Defense Curl increasing Miltank's defense. "Now use Stomp!" Miltank leaps at Gorebyss and stomps down on her with its feet, damaging it.
"Gorebyss, Water Pulse!" said Nancy. Gorebyss forms a ball of water at the end of its tail, and it launches it at Miltank, hitting it, and dealing damage.
"Miltank, Zen Headbutt!" said Miltank's trainer. Miltank's head glows pink and she charges at Gorebyss, ramming it, and knocking her back.
"Gorebyss, Whirlpool!" said Nancy. Gorebyss releases a whirlpool from its mouth, and it hits Miltank, knocking it back.
"Miltank, Rollout!" said Miltank's trainer. Miltank curls up and rolls towards Gorebyss.
"Use Agility to dodge it!" said Nancy. Gorebyss quickly leaps aside and dodges Miltank's attack. "Gorebyss, Hydro Pump!" Gorebyss fires a powerful stream of water that hits Miltank, knocking it out.
"Miltank is unable to battle. Gorebyss wins the match. The winner of this match is Nancy" said the official.
"Great work, Gorebyss." said Nancy. Miltank's trainer returns Miltank to its pokeball and puts it away. She walks to Nancy and gives her pokedollars.
"Good battle." said Miltank's trainer.
"You did okay, I guess." said Nancy. Miltank's trainer frowns before walking away.
After a couple of more matches; Jimmy was on the field while staring at a boy with black hair, yellow polo shirt, tan khaki shorts, and sandals. Jimmy's opponent takes a pokeball off his waist and tosses it, releasing a Pokemon that looked like a very large sand castle.
"What is that?" asked Edd as he takes out his Rotom Pokedex and points it at the Pokemon.
"Palossand, the Sand Castle Pokemon, and the evolved form of Sandygast. Once it has whipped up a sandstorm to halt its opponents in their tracks, this terrifying Pokémon snatches away their vitality." said Edd's Rotom Pokedex.
Jimmy takes a pokeball off his waist and tosses it, releasing his Wishiwashi; everyone watches as his Schooling ability activates and turns him to his School Form.
"Wishiwashi, use Dive!" said Jimmy. His Wishiwashi leaps up and dives into the ground which becomes like a liquid.
"How did it do that?!" asked Eddy's brother.
"Pokemon are simply full of surprises." said Edd.
"Yeah, much like you're full of yourself, bro." said Eddy.
"Watch it, pipsqueak." said Eddy's brother.
Jimmy's opponent and his Palossand were looking around for Wishiwashi; suddenly, Jimmy's Pokemon erupts from the ground below Salazzle and slams into her, dealing super effective damage; a surge of power erupts from Palossand.
"You activated my Palossand's Water Compaction ability." said Jimmy's opponent. "Water moves increase his defense."
"You learn something new every day." said Jimmy.
"Palossand, use Giga Drain!" said Jimmy's opponent; his Palossand releases a large stream of green energy at Wishiwashi.
"Careful, Jimmy!" said Maxiley.
"Wishiwashi, dodge and use Brine!" said Jimmy. His Wishiwashi narrowly avoids Palossand's attack, then releases a torrent of water from his mouth which washes over his opponent; when it was over, Palossand was unconscious.
"Palossand is unable to battle. Wishiwashi is the winner. The winner of the match is Jimmy." said the official.
"Goody!" cheered Jimmy as his Wishiwashi returns to his Solo Form and nuzzles Jimmy's chest.
"That was amazing!" said Eddy.
"Jimmy has grown stronger during his journey; as a Pokemon trainer, and as a person." said Edd.
"We have to agree with you there." said Jimmy's mother.
Palossand's trainer returns his Pokemon to its pokeball and walks over to Jimmy.
"Good match." said Palossand's trainer.
"Thank you." said Jimmy as he shakes his opponent's hand; after Jimmy's opponent gives him pokedollars, they both leave the field.
It was soon the last match of the preliminaries; it was Nathan against a girl with medium-length red hair, wearing a green button-up shirt over a white T-shirt, along with a blue skirt, and sandals; she takes a pokeball off her waist and tosses it, releasing a Carbink.
"How much cash could I get for those jewels?" asked Eddy's brother as he eyed Carbink.
"Don't do anything stupid." said Eddy's father.
"Should've told bro that a long time ago, Dad." said Eddy's brother.
"Agreed." said Eddy's father.
Nathan takes a pokeball off his waist and tosses it, releasing a light blue, serpentlike Pokemon with orange and white circles on its body, orange fins going down its back, and an orange, scallop shell-shaped growth on its head.
"What's that?" asked Jimmy. Edd points his Rotom Pokedex at the Pokemon.
"Huntail, the Deep Sea Pokemon, and the evolved form of Clamperl. Deep seas are their habitat. According to tradition, when Huntail wash up onshore, something unfortunate will happen." said Edd's Rotom Pokedex.
"Nathan must have had a Clamperl too." said Edd.
"Strange." said Edd's father. "I thought Clamperls evolved into Gorebysses."
"Some Pokemon can evolve into more than one kind of Pokemon." said Edd. "Eddy's Snorunt could evolve into either a Glalie or, like she did in Sinnoh, a Froslass; and Eevees have eight different kinds of evolutions."
"Fascinating." said Edd's father. Back on the field, the battle was about to start.
"Huntail, use Coil!" said Nathan. HIs Huntail coils its body, increasing its attack, defense, and accuracy.
"Carbink, use Ancient Power!" said Carbink's trainer. Carbink summons up multiple rocks with fossils in them that fly at Huntail, hitting it; a surge of power rise from Carbink.
"It seems Ancient Power has improved Carbink's stats." said Edd.
"Huntail, use Aqua Tail!" said Nathan. His Huntail swings its tail while it was covered in water, hitting Carbink, dealing super effective damage.
"Carbink, use Power Gem!" said Carbink's trainer. Carbink fires energy beams from its jewels at Huntail, hitting it.
"Huntail, use Water Pulse!" said Nathan. His Huntail releases a pulsating mass of water from its mouth that hits Carbink, dealing enough super effective damage to knock it out.
"Carbink is unable to battle. Huntail is the winner. The winner of the match is Nathan." said the official.
"Nice one, Huntail." said Nathan. Carbink's trainer returns her Pokemon to its pokeball and walks over to Nathan.
"Good match." said Carbink's trainer as she hands Nathan pokedollars.
"For me." said Nathan, making Carbink's trainer frown and walk away.
The Junior's Division goes on for over an hour; Sarah and her Ledian were currently facing the same boy she battled back outside Iki Town and his Raticate.
"Ledian, use Bug Buzz!" said Sarah. Ledian lets out a loud yell from her mouth, releasing red soundwaves that hits Raticate, dealing super effective damage to it, and knocking it out.
"Raticate is unable to battle. Ledian wins the match. The winner of this match is Sarah." said the official.
"Great work, Ledian." said Sarah.
"I'm proud of you, sweetie!" said Ed and Sarah's mother.
"I knew she could do it." said Maxiley. After Raticate's trainer returns Raticate to its pokeball, he walks to Sarah and gives her pokedollars.
"I had a feeling you'd beat me." said Raticate's trainer.
"You did better than the first time we battled." replied Sarah. Raticate's trainer smiles and walks away.
"The preliminary round of the Junior's Division has come to an end." said an announcer. "We will now see who will be facing who in the first round of the Junior's Division tournament." On the giant monitor, sixteen images of the remaining trainers, including Sarah, Jimmy, Nancy, and Nathan were stacked on top of each other; they then seperated, revealing each of them to be facing a different opponent.
"Looks like you got lucky, not getting to face me tomorrow." Nancy says to Sarah.
"You're the one who's lucky!" shouts Sarah.
"I hope you last long enough to face me so I can take you out of the tournament myself." said Nathan.
"If we do face each other, I'll be the one who beats you." replied Jimmy. He and Nathan faced each other while Sarah and Nancy do the same with each other.
Sarah, Jimmy, and their rivals have advanced to the first round of the tournament. How far will they get in it? Wait and find out.
