Chapter 4: Episode 3x10/3x11

Location: Earth.

There was a knock on the door of her office and Alexandra looked up from the computer and saw John Sheppard leaning against the doorframe. She offered a smile to the pilot.

"Got kicked out of the city." She stated.

John shrugged, entering the room.

"I heard you were back." He frowned upon seeing the stitches on her brow. He had never seen her hurt before and it did something to his stomach.

"Yeah. Difficult mission. The Priors are getting bolder. I'm sorry I wasn't here to welcome you home. How are you?"

John leaned on her table like so many other times before.

"Coping."

"Told you they were sneaky little bastards."

"You did." He nodded with a quick smile. "Listen. Gen. Landry is giving me the lead of a SG team. And I was thinking… you don't exactly have a team."

"I don't." Alexandra noticed his uncomfortable stance.

"So, I was thinking… I could use a historian."

"I see. Do you want me to give you some names?" She crossed her arms, knowing what he was asking for.

"Noo… I was thinking…" As John spoke, he noticed something. "You're teasing me."

"I couldn't help it. You look so uncomfortable just by asking."

"Alex…" He bumped her shoulder as she leaned on the table next to him. "You know I'm not very good at this."

"Asking for things? I got that." She saw him roll his eyes. "I am honored you asked me and I would be glad to be part of your team but I'm at the end of getting my PHD. I can't go on many missions right now, John."

"I see."

"You can count on me for anything you need. I'll give you some names. Okay?"

John nodded, crossing his arms and slumping on the table.

"Don't pout." Alexandra asked, amused.

«Major O'Neill to the control room.»

"How about this? I'll take you to that diner and we'll talk about this." She placed a hand on his arm before heading out.

"Deal." He grinned. He had to admit that he had missed hanging out with her.

"Good! See you later." And she disappeared out the door.

Alexandra heard a knock on her front door as she placed some books on her bookcase.

"It's open!"

However, she frowned when she heard a different sound of footsteps than the ones she was expecting.

"Hey."

"John? What are you doing here?" She smiled, when he peeked over the threshold of the room.

"Sam gave me your address. Finally got your own place?"

"Hardly." Alexandra shrugged. "It's my uncle's. But since he moved away, he gave it to me. Or at least he's lending it to me, according to him." She gave a chuckle at her uncles antics.

John looked around, seeing the enormous window that led to the backyard.

Alexandra smiled at his stare.

"You like fishing?"

"Not exactly my sport."

"Hm… Surf, right?"

"You remember." John was amazed by the fact.

"Of course. You're my friend." She shrugged with a smile. "So, you haven't told me what you're doing here."

"Yes, well. I heard what happened in your last mission…" His eyes went quickly over her. "I actually thought you would be more banged up."

"It wasn't that bad." She turned around, wondering why she hadn't told him what she was yet. "Do you want to drink something? I was going to order a pizza." She opened her fridge. "Want to stay?"

"Beer it's fine." John followed her. "Well, I have nothing better to do." He watched her, seeing her bare feet and noticing for the first time her attire.

"No hot date tonight?" She teased, handing him a beer.

"I just got back. How would I find a date that quickly?"

"C'mon, Sheppard. Two weeks is long enough. And news travel fast? Women are chatty. I'm sure you would find company if you wanted to."

"Are you volunteering, Alex?" He raised his brow, now teasing her back as he followed her back to the leaving room.

"I don't have time for dating anyone." She rolled her eyes at him, as she sat on the couch.

"Really?" He sat in front of her. "What about Mitchell?" John could see how her shoulders became tense and saw the warning in her eyes.

"For someone that doesn't notice the details, you're very observant, John Sheppard."

The pilot shrugged.

"We're not dating by the way. It's against the rules." She ended, with a final tone.

"Hey, I'm fine with it. Remember what I did?" John became serious. "It's not my business, Alexandra."

Surprised by the use of her full name by him, Alexandra watched John for a moment and nodded silently.

"So, pizza?"

"Sure." He smiled, getting comfortable.
