I was currently inside of Miguel's apartment. It was kind of weird how Carmen trusted me so much to help him. He looked like he was getting some physical therapy at the moment. I wasn't going to lie and say that I didn't feel uncomfortable about this, but I also knew that I was responsible for what happened and I needed to do whatever I could to fix it. I also knew that people were going to start thinking I was in a relationship with him, even though it probably wasn't good for him to be in one in his condition.
"Oh, I thought you would be alone." I declared.
"I'm sorry. My mom gets free physical therapy from work and this was the only time Braden was available." Miguel responded. The man then greeted me. Miguel seemed pretty cool with letting the guy touch him like that, or maybe I was just weird. "We'll be done soon if you wanna wait."
Carmen gave me a smile. I was starting to feel like I should go even though they seemed to be okay with me being there.
"Now, if you're feeling any pain, Hermano, let me know." Braden declared. I wasn't sure why he was adding gratuitous Spanish. It was kind of weird. Not to mention, his pronunciation was wrong. I barely knew Spanish and I knew that.
"Still not really feeling anything." Miguel remarked. Maybe he wasn't okay with it but just realized that he had to do it. I hadn't really needed to do physical therapy which I was glad about.
"No worries. Positive thoughts, remember? You're doing great." Braden responded.
"Are you sure this is helping?" I questioned.
"Jenny, Braden is a specialist in this field. He knows what she's doing." Carmen told me. It was still pretty weird to look at.
"I'll come back in a few minutes. This is making me feel a little bit uncomfortable." I admitted. I supposed that Moon was making me better at talking about my feelings. She ended up following me outside. "I'm sorry.
"I know that this stuff looks strange, but it is supposed to help." She declared. "It's great that you want to help, but he also needs medical professionals."
"Okay." I responded. I personally thought the guy seemed full of it, but I would give him a chance. However, before I could say any more, my phone rang. "I should take this."
I walked across the street and answered the phone.
"Sarah?" I answered.
"What are you doing right now?" She questioned. "I was wondering if maybe you wanted to get something to eat somewhere."
I couldn't help but notice the weird way that she had asked that.
"I'm a little bit busy right now." I answered. I didn't know how long this was going to take, but I probably didn't want to get sidetracked.
"Well maybe we can meet somewhere and have dinner tonight?" She suggested. She was being pretty persistent about all of this. "If you want to that is."
"Maybe." I responded before I hung up because it looked like Carmen wanted to talk to me.
"We'll probably be done in an hour." She responded. I then noticed a text from Sam saying that they were having a class and I went over there. I still needed to learn Miyagi-Do to stop Cobra Kai.
When I got there, I saw that Demetri had taken Chris down. There really weren't that many people there when I got there.
"Do it again. We have to be ready to fight." Sam remarked. I was kind of impressed with her initiative.
"What do you think you're doing?" Her mom interrupted. Her brother was also there. It seemed like this session was about to be cut short.
"Would you believe study group?" Demetri suggested. Why would anyone believe that?
"All of you go home right now." Her mom responded. You know maybe trying to do it behind her parents' backs wasn't the best idea. I probably didn't have any room to argue and it did seem like trying to start a fight at the soccer game wasn't exactly fighting smart. It seemed like she was fighting more for a grudge and kept falling into their traps.
I went home because I didn't need to be back at Miguel's yet.
"I thought you were going to be with Miguel." Ali told me. There was a part of me was thinking that I should call her Mom, but I kind of felt if I did that, I would be losing a part of who I was.
"He was doing physical therapy." I explained. I supposed that this meant that I could probably hang out with Sarah, but I still didn't want to lose track of time. "Hey…Mom, can I ask you something?"
"Of course." She responded. I knew that I was about to ask her a weird question.
"What do you think about karate?" I asked.
"What do you mean?" She inquired. I supposed that it was a little bit unclear.
"I mean do you think that I should be doing it?" I questioned. It was probably good to gage her interest in it.
"I mean I'm not really the biggest fan of it, but I'm not going to say that you can't learn it as long as you do well in school." She declared. "How is school? Do you feel like you're caught up."
"I think so." I answered. She was pretty diligent at making sure that I did my homework and studied. "I should probably get back to see if Miguel's ready."
I had my own method of trying to get Miguel to do things. I didn't know if it would work, but I felt that feeding into his desires could help him. He was in his wheelchair. I went on the upper floor with a fishing pole and dangled a magazine in front of him.
"What is this?" He asked as he looked at the magazine in front of him.
"This is 1999 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue and if you want it, you're going to have to get it." I told him.
"You know I could just find these images on my phone, don't you?" He replied.
"It's not the same." I replied. "I'm trying to give you something that you want."
He started to reach and I pulled it away.
"I thought you were the All-Valley Champion. Are you really going to let stop you?" I asked as he stood up and reached for it before he fell over. I rushed over to help him. "Damn it. Are you okay?"
I helped him into the chair.
"Don't you get it? You could dangle a new PlayStation in front of me and I still wouldn't be able to get up and get it." He stated before he rolled away. I wondered if that would actually work. I would have to figure out what the latest PlayStation was though. I couldn't help but notice that both things I was trying to do right now had become quite complicated. I wondered if Sarah would be able to teach me since it didn't look like Sam wasn't going to be able to.
I decided to look over some old articles to see if I could find anything about Miyagi-Do online. One of the first things that I found was the article about how I lost to LaRusso. The headline said "Mystery Dojo Defangs Cobra Kai". That wasn't the greatest thing. The worst part was how Kreese destroyed my second-place trophy. I should have known back then that I was following the wrong path, but I was pretty sure that I had too much pride to do anything. I decided to text Sarah to see if her offer to hang out was open still open.
"You can come to the pier at 5:00." She offered. I was a little nervous about going to the pier again because of what happened last time, but it probably wouldn't happen again if we stayed with the crowds. I then noticed that she was typing. "And wear something nice."
I blushed a little. It did sound a little like she was asking me on a date, but I wasn't sure about it. I supposed that I could do so because she asked, but I thought that most of my clothes would qualify as nice. I ended up going with a gray strapless dress.
We went to get some dinner. There were a few sit-down restaurants on the pier. I couldn't help but wonder if I should leave a bigger tip since I had more money now.
"So you look pretty," She told me.
"Thanks." I said with a blush. I still was not used to people calling me pretty even though I had been a girl for over a month. The fact that I was possibly on a date also crossed my mind. I wondered if I should bring it up, but I wanted to try to do so without sounding weird about it. I realized that I should probably compliment her as well. "You do too. So what do you want to order?"
"I think I'll go with some steak." She declared. "What about you?"
"Is it okay if I just get a burger?" I questioned.
"Get whatever you want." She responded.
"So I wanted to talk to you more about Miyagi-Do." I explained.
"What about it?" She asked.
"Well earlier today, Sam's mom caught her trying to teach us. I don't know if she'll be able to keep doing it, so someone else might need to step in and I think that person should be you." I declared.
"I don't know if I want to teach that many people." She declared.
"You offered to teach me." I pointed out.
"Yeah and it's a lot easier to teach one person then who knows how many." She replied. "I'll teach you still, but I think I can commit to teaching everyone."
"What about your mom?" I asked.
"I don't know about her. I haven't really talked to her about it." She told me. "Can we just not focus on that right now and try to have a good time?"
I did have to say that the food was pretty good. It wasn't the best burger that I ever had. That was probably still the ones that my mom made…I mean my real mom, even though Ali made a pretty good one as well.
When we got done with the dinner, I couldn't help but hear that there were some assholes messing with some kids on the boardwalk. I had a pretty good idea who was responsible for that. I also knew that was definitely not a lesson that I had taught them. I wondered if I should get involved with it at all.
"We should probably check that out." I remarked.
"I don't know. One of the principles of Miyagi-Do is trying to avoid fights unless it is necessary." She stated.
"I didn't say that we had to fight them, but I don't think letting them terrorize the place is a good idea either." I responded.
"Okay. Let's do it." She agreed as we went over to the boardwalk.
The first thing that I noticed was that it was indeed Hawk and the other guys from Cobra Kai. Chris was working the prize booth when they came over the counter and stole some prizes. Now stealing was definitely not something that I taught them.
At that moment, I got a call from Miguel.
"I need to take this." I declared as Sarah went over to talk to Chris.
I walked over to somewhere quiet.
"Hey Miguel." I told him.
"You know I've been thinking about what you said earlier. I do really want this, but I don't know why this isn't working. Can you come over right now?" He asked.
"I don't know if I can or not. I might be on a date." I said. I still wasn't completely sure.
"Really? With whom?" He questioned.
"Her name is Sarah. Her mom was taught by the same guy who taught LaRusso." I explained. "She also said that she could teach me."
"I thought that Sam was doing that." He declared.
"I don't know how much longer that will happen now that her mom has found out about it." I pointed out.
"Well you can go back to your date." He offered. "I'm sorry for interrupting."
"I don't know if it's a date." I reminded him. Part of me wondered if he was teasing me a little. "And don't be sorry either. I'm always to talk to you."
"I'll talk to you later." He declared before hanging up. I kept trying to figure out good ways to fix his legs. It sounded like the surgery was successful, but I still needed to figure out how to actually get him to walk. One thing that I thought of was trying to put my life in danger because it could cause him to have an adrenaline rush, but that probably wasn't worth the risk. Maybe the best idea was to just give it time, but I didn't know how long it would take.
I could only imagine what his mom was going through. I knew that she was probably glad that he was alive, but it probably still wasn't easy watching him suffer the way that he was. It was hard for me and I couldn't help but think that it had to be even harder for her. But Miguel was right and I probably did need to get back to Sarah. Even if it wasn't a date, it still probably wasn't a good idea for me to just leave her because that wouldn't something that a friend would do either.
I went back and found that Sam, Demetri and Nate had come over.
"Where are they?" She asked.
"They snuck into the old laser tag place." Chris replied.
"Wouldn't it be better just to call security on them?" Demetri suggested.
"Someone could get hurt." Sam pointed out. You know I wouldn't be surprised if they attacked a security guard. Could Kreese really say that he was proud of them for what they were doing? Maybe I had just interpretated it wrong, but to me striking first was not about being a criminal. You still needed to have some honor.
Chris had to go back to work, so the five of us went over there. I wasn't sure if this was the best idea because I wasn't entirely sure what would happen if security did come. We started by turning the lights on…which were these black lights that made everything glow.
"What do you want?" Hawk asked.
"Payback." Sam answered.
At that point, a fight started to break out. Most of them were bigger than me. I was pretty sure that we had the upper hand. I knew that Hawk was the best fighter of them, even though he may have been too blinded by hatred to really hit his full potential. I also realized that there were disadvantages to fighting in a dress. I couldn't kick too high.
"What are you going to do girly?" That guy whose name I never could remember asked.
"How about this?" I asked as I kicked him in the groin. "And don't call me girly."
At that point, I heard some more footsteps. It seemed like they had called for some reinforcements of their own.
"Sam LaRusso." Tory remarked. Yeah that was a problem. She was someone that I didn't trust. I thought about trying to kick her out because I kind of felt like she was too ruthless for Cobra Kai. I noticed that Sam seemed to immediately tense up upon hearing her voice. "Where are you, bitch?"
All I knew now was that things were going to get a lot harder. This may have been the time to run. Of course one of the biggest issues with that was I wasn't entirely sure how to get out of this place. There was also the fact that I had never actually fought a girl before. I didn't know if I would be ready to fight her, even though I knew that it was okay for to fight her.
"Sam, are you okay?" I asked her as I noticed that she seemed to be having problems. I was beginning to think that it was a panic attack. She seemed like she was having trouble breathing.
"I need to get out of here." She declared.
"We can't just leave them." I pointed out.
"I can't do this." She remarked. I couldn't believe that even the sound of Tory's voice could trigger her so much, but also I hadn't been there during the fight. I didn't know what Tory had done to her because putting her in the hospital. That was why LaRusso was there initially.
I heard that Demetri was beginning to beg for mercy. I knew that it might be a bad idea to try to take on all of them at once, but I knew that I had to do something. I couldn't just stand by and let this happen. They were egging Hawk on to go and break Demetri's arm and I went and ran over. I kicked Hawk's feet out from under him. Of course, there were still six more of them.
"Who are you, Bitch?" Tory asked me.
"My name is Jenny Lawrence." I declared as I grabbed Demetri off the ground. "I know that I ay not have known my father but I'm pretty sure that he never taught you this."
"Your father was weak." Tory responded. "He was never good enough and only Sensei Kreese has helped us unlock our potential."
At that point, I went over and started to fight her. The boys just seemed to watch as they wanted to see a good girl fight. Granted, I probably would have done the same thing when I was their age. She landed a kick to the groin and okay…that still hurt.
"You're lucky that you're not the one that I want to fight." Tory replied as they started to walk away. I knew that I could try to go after her, but it was clear that I was at a disadvantage. Not only was I not dressed to fight, but also she clearly knew how to exploit my weaknesses more than I did. She was also more willing to fight dirty. It was definitely clear that I needed to learn some defense to stop her attacks.
"So that didn't really go well." I remarked. I was actually in quite a deal of pain at the moment. "I didn't know it would hurt like this."
"I mean yeah you still have the same nerves that males do, but you don't have the same risk for damage." Demetri explained. I felt like I needed to home and take a bath.
Fortunately, Ali was not at home when I got there, so I didn't have to explain anything to her. While I was in the tub, I put on some Twisted Sister. I knew that I would have to do more training in order to defeat Tory.
I decided to call Miguel once I was done.
"Sensei. I have good news." He told me.
"What?" I asked.
"I was listening to some of that music that you suggested and not only was it really badass, but I couldn't help but notice that I was tapping my feet a little to it." He explained.
"Really. I would come over there but I kind of got in a fight with Tory and she hit me in my…pussy" I declared.
"What?" He asked. I was a little bit embarrassed to say it to him.
"Let's just say that it does not feel better than being kicked in the nuts." I remarked.
"Are you going to be okay?" He questioned.
"Yeah, I think so." I declared. "I'll come and see you tomorrow."
The following day, I went to his apartment. I was still a little sore but it was definitely better than before.
Carmen was thrilled to see him moving his foot.
"I don't know what you did, but thank you so much." She declared as she gave me a hug.
"It was all him. All I did was provide some words of encouragement." I declared. "It'll still take some time to get him walking again."
"Well I know that he'll be able to do it with someone like you looking after him." She stated before my phone rang. I didn't have the number saved. "I should take this. I'll see you later."
I went outside and answered the phone.
"Hello?" I said.
"Jenny, this is Julie Pierce." The voice declared. "Sarah told me about your fight with Cobra Kai. It looks like you kids are going to need a teacher. We'll have our first lesson later this afternoon. Don't be late."
So Jenny had a date with Sarah, and she also had her first fight with Tory, with painful results. On the plus side, Demetri's arm wasn't broken. Also it convinced Julie to help her out. Not to mention Daniel will be back soon. Please don't forget to review.
