men, all single. They had spent most of the evening chatting and comparing OR wins and losses. Allison liked time with her colleagues to swap OR stories and have people to talk to who understood her professional life. But she didn't want to have that be her whole life. This group only did surgery.
"Its great you finally came out Blouin," one of the guys said.
"I got my dad to babysit," Allison said, "it was a major fight with my brother but my dad is babysitting."
"Your brother," the guy asked.
"My brother has infant twins," Allison said, "four months old."
"Isn't your brother young Hunt," the guy asked.
"Altman-Hunt," Allison corrected, "James you know his name he's a trauma surgeon on your rotation."
"But he goes by Hunt so he doesn't get confused with Dr. Altman in cardio," James said.
"Our sister," Allison said.
"So your single now," James asked.
"Still married," Allison replied, "he's just away for a while with work."
"If you need anything," James said.
"I have family to help out," Allison said.
"You know what I mean," James said, "some one to warm your bed."
"Woah," Allison gasped, "no. I am married. I am not available."
"He's away," James said, "he'll never know. He'll understand you needed someone to take care of you."
"I'm good on my own," Allison said, "I'm happy with Asher."
"You've been his baby mama since you were in high school," James said, "one night. I'll show you a good time. You don't believe he's faithful while he's away. No man would be why should you."
"I know he'll be faithful," Allison assured, "I trust him. James I'm not interested. I wanted to come out tonight with friends and have some adult company and conversation. I'm happy to wait for Asher to come home."
"Then you've never had good sex," James pressed.
Allison stood up," I don't want to sleep with you. I am faithful to my husband. If you can't respect that that's on you."
"Allison," the other woman said, "James is harmless."
"Taya," Allison said, "the assumptions he's making about my marriage."
"A couple more drinks and you'll relax," James said, "we'll dance and I'll show you."
"No," Allison said, "I should go anyway. The baby still feeds once overnight."
"Come on," James said, "just have fun for once."
"No," Allison said.
James stood up and went to the bar.
"Watch him," Luka the other man said, "Allison you don't have to accept the drink when he brings it. He has a habit of getting pretty women drunk so they sleep with him."
"I'm okay to have a second," Allison said, "but I don't owe him anything. The fact that I'm married and he can't respect that."
"I know," Luka said, "and Taya he's not harmless. He's trying to sexually assault Allison. She's said no very clearly and multiple times. He's a doctor. SA could permanently ruin his career."
James came back and put the drink down in front of Allison.
"No thank you," Allison said, "I'm driving. I don't drink and drive."
"Come on," James said.
"No," Allison replied.
"Leave her man," Luka said, "is she doesn't want to drink more she doesn't want to."
"A dance then," James asked Allison.
"No thanks," Allison replied.
"Dude she said she wasn't interested," Luka said.
Feeling uncomfortable Allison said, "I'm going to settle up and go home. My kids will be up early."
James followed Allison out to her car. He grabbed her wrist and tried to pull her closer to him. She shook her arm free and ran across the parking lot. He reached her van the same time she did. James grabbed her and pressed her against the door.
"No," Allison shouted, "stop."
He pressed closer to her and kissed her. She panicked. Instinctively her knee came up and hit him hard in the groin.
"Bitch," he hissed kissing her again.
Allison turned her head and screamed, "no! Don't touch me! Get off me."
James didn't care he tried to pull her top free from her skirt.
"Help," Allison screamed, "help. Rape!"
Realizing her top wasn't coming free James reached under her skirt. Allison continued screaming. She tried to push him away but with her back pressed against the van she had no where to go. Finally she was able to get one hand free. She was able to get her keys from her pocket and hit the panic button.
James slapped her across the face and continued to reach under her skirt. He pressed against Allison. His hand over her mouth, she bit his hand. But it didn't stop him.
Suddenly James flew backwards.
"Get off her," a low voice growled.
"Are you alright," a female voice asked.
"No," Allison said. She took a deep breath, "I can't find my phone can you call the police."
"Ma'am," the woman said, "I'm officer Delaney with Seattle PD. My partner and I are the police. Would you like to talk to us about the incident?"
Allison nodded, "James needs to be arrested."
"Ma'am," officer Delaney said, "my partner officer Roberts is going to speak to him. Can you speak to me."
"Yes," Allison agreed.
The officer lead Allison away from the scene and across the street to the hospital.
"Oh my god Allie," Cat gasped.
Allison turned to Cat, "call OB. I need a rape kit."
"Ma'am," Delaney said, "I need your name."
"Doctor Allison Eloise Blouin," Allison replied, "I'm an orthopedic surgeon here.
"Can we interview you first," Delaney asked.
"After the DNA samples have been taken and I speak to my husband," Allison replied.
"We need to speak to you," Delaney said.
"The DNA is better fresh," Allison said, "I can't talk right now I need to do this first."
Cat came back, "I've paged. It's Stephanie Mitchell on tonight."
"I like Stephanie," Allison said, "cat I lost my phone can you call my mom?"
"Allison," Delaney said.
"We're admitting her," Cat declared, "officer you will have to wait until our staff have completed their exams."
Once Allison was taken into a trauma room with the curtains closed Cat called Teddy.
"Auntie Teddy," cat said, "I don't know the details. Allie is here as a patient. She's asking for a rape kit."
"The pit," Teddy confirmed, "what trauma room?"
"Six," cat replied, "she's not okay. She's in ice mode."
"I'm coming," Teddy said. She grabbed a coat and shoes along with her purse. She didn't bother to call downstairs and tell Leo she was going it would only cause more problems. In the car she called Owen and told him what she knew.
Stephanie began the exam allowing Cat to stay as moral support. Allison was relieved it was the familiar OB who had been involved in all three of her deliveries.
"Allison was there penetration," Stephanie asked.
"No," Allison replied, "but he tried to get his fingers under my panties."
"I'm going to do the whole exam anyway," Stephanie said, "I need to know when was the last time you had penetrative intercourse?"
"Asher's been away for work for 11 weeks so the night before he left," Allison replied, "I had my period last week."
"And you still have your IUD," Stephanie confirmed.
"I do," Allison replied.
Stephanie did the exam and collected the samples she could.
Teddy waited anxiously outside the trauma room.
"Mom," Allison sobbed coming out the door.
"I'm here baby girl," Teddy assured, "I'm here. You're okay. Dad is with your kids. You're going to be alright."
"I want Asher," Allison sobbed.
"Allie do you know who it was," Teddy asked, "you seem sober."
"I had one glass of wine," Allison replied.
"That's nothing baby," Teddy assured, "and Allie you are not to blame. It is on him."
"Mrs Blouin," Delaney said.
"Doctor," Allison corrected.
Allison went with the officer and told her story clearly naming and identifying James.
"You need to notify doctor Megan Hunt," Teddy told the officers, "James Riordan is a doctor here. Megan Hunt is chief of staff. This has to be reported to her."
"Not until charges have been laid," the officer said.
"Allison you can make a sexual harassment complaint with HR," Teddy replied.
"Tomorrow," Allison whimpered, "I need to go home. I want a shower. And they took my underwear and clothes, they even have my bra."
"You can go to the attending locker room and shower here," Teddy offered, "you have extra clothes her so you can get out of those scrubs."
"I don't want to be naked here," Allison said, "mom I'm scared."
"Of course you are," Teddy said, "I would be. What if cat and I came up and guarded the door?"
Allison nodded.
"Then that's our plan," Teddy assured, "Allison you did the right thing reporting it."
"It's my fault for going out," Allison said.
"To have dinner with some colleagues," Teddy asked.
"And I had a glass of wine," Allison said.
"One glass with dinner is fine," Teddy said, "even if you had more this is his fault."
"Why was he so rough," Allison asked, "no one's ever been that rough with me."
"Allie," Teddy sighed, "you've only been with a man who loves you and cares so deeply for you. You're lucky that way. There are men who only think about their own desires and don't care if you're not feeling the same way."
"I said no," Allison said, "he was hitting on me before that and I said no. I told him I'm married and he didn't listen. Mom why didn't he listen?"
"I don't know," Teddy admitted, "he was a resident with you here. He knows about Asher, he's seen your kids. I don't want to guess his motives. But he was so wrong, he was the one in the wrong. You did everything right."
"Asher's going to be so mad at me," Allison said.
"No baby," Teddy assured, "Asher will be mad about what happened but not at you. He'll be mad like I'm mad, some one tried to hurt you, that's what upsets me. Not you and your responses. You did the right thing you said no, you demanded the DNA samples be collected. I think he'll be charged."
"Luka tried to stop him," Allison said.
"Then he'll be interviewed and his story will match yours," Teddy said, "Allie he'll be fired, he'll lose his licence and hopefully there's jail time."
Allison began to sob. Teddy wrapped her in a hug and held her close, "you're okay. I'm here. I'm Here and I'm not going anywhere. I will be right here as long as you want me to be."
"Can you stay at my house tonight," Allison asked, "I'm scared to go home and be alone with the kids."
"Dads there now and we'll stay," Teddy promised.
"I'm going to get Cat to drive my car to your house and I'll drive your van," Teddy directed.
When they got home all three of Allison's kids were in bed. She headed straight to the master bedroom and closed the door. Teddy looked at Owen and shook her head. He knew right away it was bad.
"Teddy," Owen whispered.
"James assaulted her," Teddy replied, "she's had a complete exam. We're going to stay here tonight. Can you run home and pack us a bag?"
"Yeah," Owen agreed, "where's your car?"
"The hospital," Teddy replied, "get Leo to help you bring it home. He can step up."
"He won't like it," Owen said.
"He doesn't have a choice," Teddy replied.
They heard the shower turn on.
"I'm going to go," Owen said, "you be here and I'll come back."
Allison cranked the shower as hot as it would go and vigorously scrubbed her entire body while sobbing. How had she let things get that far? How had she been so unclear?
Stepping out of the shower she called Asher. She knew it was late but she just needed to hear his voice.
"I'm sorry," she choked out as soon as he picked up, his voice thick with sleep.
"Allison what's wrong," Asher asked.
She choked out the story from starting with a friendly dinner with colleagues and needing to get out of the house and have some adult company for a bit to James not getting her very direct message that she wasn't interested and him assaulting her against her car.
"Allie breathe," Asher soothed, "are you hurt?"
"Not really," Allison choked out, "some bruising and my wrists hurt."
"Thats good," Asher said.
"But youre mad at me," Allison said, "you'll leave me and not come back over this."
"I am angry," Asher said, "but at James not at you babe. I'm worried about you. Allie I am not mad at you. You told him clearly, you left when things didn't improve and he followed you. His choices babe not yours. His mistakes not yours."
"But," Allison stuttered.
"No," Asher said, "this is his fault and only his fault. You are innocent and our relationship is okay. Allison that is assault and you are the victim. In the morning you'll call your therapist?"
"Yeah," Allison agreed, "and I have to talk to the police again."
"Be honest with them," Asher said, "do you need me to come home?"
"I want you home," Allison admitted, "I need you to make me feel safe but you're almost done and you'd have to restart."
"I'll work it out," Asher said, "come home for a few days."
"I'll be fine but I need you to talk to me until I fall asleep," Allison said.
"I can do that but I need to see you're okay," Asher said, "I'm worried."
"I think I'll be okay," Allison replied, "I hope so at least."
"You are home, you are safe," Asher said, "I am not angry."
"But he kissed me and tried to touch places only you touch," Allison said.
"You told him no," Asher said, "he didn't listen. That's on him. Allie I believe you. You are the victim here. I am not upset with you."
Allison nodded.
"Why don't you lay down and plug your phone in," Asher encouraged, "prop it on my pillow and I'll talk with you as you fall asleep."
Allison nodded.
"I love you," Asher assured, "I am coming home."
All Allison wanted right now was for Asher to be home for him to make her feel safe and loved and to hide in his arms.
