Angel: I don't normally update on Tuesdays, but I just learned this morning that the main series will be ending in August of this year. Which, I expected, because...I just started this fic, and I've been keeping up with season 7. So it's not that much of a shock to me, but I knew that someone was gonna bring it up so I figured to address the elephant in the room. I'm a little upset, but also, there's so much content with this anime that I feel like I'll be okay. For those not watching the series but are reading the story regardless, you have to be prepared to get into it because there is over 140 episodes, 4 movies though one of them is also coming out August this year, and 9 OVAs that I already said I was tackling. So go nuts when you're ready lol. It is a great series, not much more I can say.
Speaking of OVAs, I have now seen them all thanks to the guest who recommended that website, so I am back on track with those. There are still certain episodes I'm not doing for reasons I'll say much later.
"Check out the results from the exam," The teachers were talking amongst each other regarding the entrance test results.
"Wow, the first place student didn't even have Rescue Points." And in first place, would be Katsuki...
"He took down those faux villains like an ace." Katsuki extended his hand forward, using his explosion to defeat the robot in front of him. "When most of the other examinees were running from the big obstacle, he stayed focused on letting the smaller targets get in close and then counterattacking." He destroyed robots left and right, placing his hands on top of a taller one. He then caused a big explosion. "That kid is tough." Katsuki grinned while running off.
"On the opposite end, the seventh and eighth placed students didn't have as many villain points. In fact, the 8th place student only received one villain point."
"They're not the first UA hopefuls to take out that giant robot." Izuku gritted his teeth at the same time that Izuka fired off her shooting star arrow. Only this time, it was much bigger than the first one she fired. It soared right past her brother, twinkling with power just as Izuku recoiled back his right fist. "Though, it's been a while since I saw someone blow it away with one attack each." At the same time the shooting star hit the robot, Izuku had punched it with so much power that it not only caused a dent, but the robot was pushed back far. This was thanks to the power of both twins working together. The shooting star then exploded inside of the robot, causing an explosion from within.
"But at what cost?" Another teacher asked as Izuka bent down to her brother, sniffing as she talked to him, but he didn't answer. "Did you see how badly he injured himself? And yet he made sure that his sister got down without a scratch on her. If you ask me, it's like his body isn't used to his Quirk, unlike the girl. Though she doesn't seem to be used to making her projectiles that big either."
A man with a large scarf was watching them from afar, his arms crossed. He eyed the twins closely with a small hum.
On the beach the twins had cleaned up, All Might was standing there alone. He watched the waves crash onto the sand.
The night after the both of us opened our UA acceptance letters, he finally got in touch with us again.
I guess he wanted to talk to us in person after we listened to his messages. The two ran into the entrance to the beach. Izuka had her hair in pigtails, wearing a yellow hoodie, blue jeans, and sneakers.
"Huh?" He glanced back in confusion to see them approaching. Izuku panted with tears falling from his face. Izuka panted while placing her hands on her knees.
"Hi, All Might!" He exclaimed to the skinny man, and he spurted out blood from his mouth in response.
"Too loud, kid!" He warned the boy as Izuka turned to him nervously.
"Maybe you shouldn't speak his name out loud, even if it is at night..." She informed as two people had overheard Izuku unfortunately.
"No way! Where?" A woman called out, the blond flinching in alarm.
"Way to blow my cover," The man hissed a little. "Say it was a mistake."
Izuku flinched in a panic and then waved his arms, sweating. "I was just kidding! Nothing to see here!" He cried out to the duo.
"Lame," The man commented in disappointment.
"I wanted an autograph," The woman whined and the three all sighed in relief. All Might then held up a hand.
"Congrats on getting in, you two," He informed the twins, who flinched.
"We couldn't have done it without your help!" Izuku high-fived him, Izuka moving back a bit. All Might blinked and then chuckled, patting her on the head instead. He should've figured that she probably wouldn't have liked high-fiving him since it didn't seem to be like her.
"Yes, that's right," Izuka nodded curtly, looking at him and her brother. "I wouldn't have even applied if you two hadn't encouraged me in the first place."
Izuku gasped as he turned to his sister and then gave a happy smile that he was the reason she applied. "I'm so happy to hear that, Izuka! That's exactly what I want; for you to be a hero and for me to see what else you can do with your Quirk," He pumped a fist with a grin and she gave a closed-eyed smile.
"Oh, speaking of which," All Might spoke up, getting their attention. "I didn't tell anyone at UA that I've been training you two or anything." They blinked at him in unison. "Really. I wasn't one of the judges, and I didn't pull any strings for ya. You earned your spots all on your own."
"Whoa, thanks for telling us," Izuku kneeled over a bit, Izuka rubbing his back gently. "We're glad to hear that!"
"Yes, it's nice to know that you were still supporting us without doing us favors," Izuka nodded in agreement.
Izuku then let out a gasp as he realized something, looking up at the skinny blond. "Oh, yeah! We were really surprised to hear you're gonna be a teacher at UA this year! I was wondering what brought you here all of a sudden."
"I'm curious about that too," Izuka blinked up curiously. "It does seem like a big change for you."
"After all, your agency is in Minato, Tokyo, and everyone knows-"
"Gettin' creepy," All Might interrupted, earning a weary look in return. The girl let out a small giggle at her brother, her hand in front of her mouth. His fanboying was still very apparent, even after ten months of training... "The school didn't want me telling anyone about the job until they made an official announcement." All Might stared at the water in front of him. "It seemed like fortuitous timing. An easy way to find someone new to inherit One for All."
"I was...on a long hunt for a successor," He informed the twins the day that they tried to rescue Katsuki.
So that's it. Izuku recoiled back a bit in alarm as Izuka gasped. He was originally planning to give it to a UA student. Someone who was strong. He looked towards his hands, his eyes shaking as...he wasn't that. At least, not yet. Who already had a Quirk... "Your power completely wrecked my body," Izuku informed the man. "And all I did was jump and throw one punch. I can't control it. What do I do?"
"I haven't felt myself reaching my limit too soon in a while, but...eventually that might catch up to me," Izuka looked towards the ground. "I might not have been injured like he was after the exam, but what if I do end up causing an explosion if I reach my limit and someday, I'd have to go beyond that...?"
"You'll learn to manage in time," All Might turned back around to them. "Hoping to master it right away is like asking a baby to run a marathon. You still have to go through the process of learning how to walk. As for you, Izuka...I don't know if I want to believe you'd do something like that." She let out a gasp looking up at him with wide eyes. "Sure, you may be quiet, and you don't interact with other people much. But I know that you'll learn to get adjusted to your Quirk and unlock new abilities."
"Yeah..." Izuku murmured softly and Izuka tried not to cry from his advice.
"Thank you, Mr. All Might..." She whispered gratefully, clutching at her pants in determination. She wouldn't let anything happen to the city with her Quirk...
"Wait!" Izuku looked up in realization. "You knew I was gonna get hurt that badly?!"
"Well...we were in a time crunch," All Might poked his own forehead. "But it turned out all right."
"He could've died," Izuka stated with a semi-blank tone.
"But he now knows what he's dealing with! And he's still alive, isn't it?" All Might gave them a thumbs up. "Right now, your Quirk is either all or nothing," He picked up two cans of gas. "One day, you'll learn how to control your output. Then you'll be able to adjust exactly how much power you're using."
Izuku then gasped at what he was getting at. "We just need control?"
"You're overflowing with energy at the moment, and she's still dealing with untapped power. When training, your bodies will hold them better." He then squished the can flat in his hand, as he was in his muscle form now. "Then it's yours to command."
The two gasped and then gave determined looks. "Look, it really is All Might!" The man from before called out.
"No way! Where'd he come from?" The woman asked in awe, and All Might realized what he just did.
"Right. Now we run!" He ran off, to their shock.
"Okay!" Izuku agreed, running after them.
"Ah, wait for me!" Izuka followed after the duo. All Might then glanced back at the twins.
The torch I passed onto Izuku is but a small flame right now. In time, it will be kindled, until you wield a raging inferno. The more powerful you become, the more you'll outshine me. Eventually, I'll retire. My job complete. Hoo! Deep stuff, All Might. Izuka's flame is also small, but can be kindled into a raging inferno as well. And the more powerful she becomes...the more that she'll start to become her own symbol.
It was now April, which meant that the first semester of UA was starting. "Izuka, Izuku, you're all set?" Inko asked the twins nervously. Both of them were lacing up their shoes, as they were getting ready to leave. They were already in their UA uniforms. Izuka's shoes were pure white sneakers with one yellow star per shoe near the heel area. They had periwinkle laces tied to them.
"Yeah," He answered without looking back.
"We double checked everything," Izuka informed, while also holding a big rectangle-shaped bag.
"Are you sure?" She wondered from behind her children. "You didn't just pack action figures or art supplies, right?"
"I have everything," Izuku looked back at his mother nervously.
"And I have myself covered when it comes to my art supplies," Izuka gestured to the rectangle-shaped bag.
"Now we gotta go. We don't wanna be late," Izuku got onto his feet, putting his yellow backpack over his shoulder. Izuka stood up as well, holding both her bags by the strap in front of her skirt. "Come on, Izuka."
"Both of you," She called out and he groaned a bit, opening the door. Izuka turned back around to Inko curiously. She gave the twins a proud look, her eyes shaking. They both stared at her in shock and she then looked up.
"I'm really proud of you, my children," She revealed, causing both of them to gasp.
"Mom..." Izuka murmured at her softly.
That day, we began our high school careers.
And the first step to being heroes!
"We'll see you soon," Izuku smiled at Inko happily.
"We'll tell you all about it when we're back. I'll be home late," Izuka rubbed her arm awkwardly.
"Oh, I wish you'd break that habit," Inko sighed a little at her. "But I understand, Izuka. Just be careful, okay?"
"I will," She gave her mother a one-arm hug before running off after her brother.
The acceptance rate that year was just as small as it always had been. One in 300. Four people got in because of recommendations, and 37 through the regular exams.
The two ran up to the entrance, and thankfully, there was no one around. So Izuka didn't have to worry about the crowds this time around. Her hair was back into the normal style of having part of it tied into the two rings above her head.
The 37th person was of course, me. I'm sure that the school recognized that, but didn't seem to mind me as the extra addition. I only hope that it didn't bother anyone else...
We were split into two classes, with one having 21 instead of 20 because of Izuka's acceptance.
"Class 1-A...1-A," Izuku looked around for the door. "Come on, where is it? Ah! There!" He looked up at the door sign...and the door was about three times taller than them. Izuka blinked in a bit of awe as she looked up, since height-wise, her head just barely stopped at his shoulders. "Man, this thing is huge. Are there giants here?"
"Maybe it's for people whose Quirks make them taller like Mt. Lady," Izuka suggested nervously while turning to him.
"Yeah, maybe," He agreed with her. The two then stood up straight and anxiously. "The most promising students in the country are waiting behind this door."
"I-I can deal with 19 other students...that's not that bad, right?" Izuka murmured in a bit of hesitation while gripping the straps of her bags. They then thought of Katsuki and the boy with glasses, as both of them were terrifying and they didn't want to be in the same class as those two... Izuku gasped and then shook his head rapidly.
"Maybe we're in different classes. Maybe everyone in here is nice," Izuku hoped, since they had been bullied since four in school. So they didn't really have any friends. Izuka herself was too anxious to really make any.
"Sure, Bakugo-San has been in our classes since we were growing up, but...they wouldn't do that again, would they?" Izuka bit her lip and then took a deep shaky breath. She watched Izuku slide the door open...and unfortunately, they were met with the boy with glasses scolding someone.
"Take your feet off of that desk now!" He scolded none other than Katsuki. The blond gave a smug smirk.
"Huh?" He remarked while playing dumb.
"It's the first day and you're already disrespecting this academy by scuffing school property, you cretin!" The taller boy glared down at him.
"You're kidding me, right?" Katsuki didn't seem to care all that much. "Your old school put a stick up your ass? Or were you born with it?" The twins hid behind the door slightly, giving disappointed looks. Of course they were all placed in the same class...
Just our luck.
Why did we need to be in the same class as Bakugo-San? Now he'll never leave us alone... Izuka gave a small frown. The boy with glasses was about to speak again when he realized that he might be making a bad first impression. He then gestured to himself.
"Let's start over. I'm Tenya Ida from the Somei Private Academy," He introduced himself, trying to be nice since the twins did set an example at the exam.
"Somei, huh?" Katsuki wondered with a cocky grin. "So you must think you're better than me. I'm gonna have fun tearin' you a new one."
Tenya gasped sharply, recoiling back in shock. "You would threaten me? Your own classmate? Are you sure you're in the right place?"
"Ha!" Katsuki looked away...and then saw the twins. The two flinched to see the both of them. Izuka looked away nervously, an anxious expression on her face from their looks. She slid closer to her brother.
"It's them," As soon as the blue-haired boy said that, all of the other students turned to look at the two. Izuku gasped as Izuka stepped back a bit nervously. He then looked away in embarrassment.
"Uh, hi..." He spoke up hesitantly, since he didn't want another scolding. And neither did Izuka for that matter as she hid behind Izuku. She squeezed her eyes shut while shaking. "Izuka..." He glanced back at her awkwardly.
"Good morning!" Tenya greeted them as he approached. "My name is Tenya Ida fro-"
"Yeah, w-we know," Izuku waved his hands, stopping the blue-haired boy in place.
"We?" He blinked in confusion, peeking past the green-haired boy to see Izuka. "Ah, yes! I didn't see you there, my apologies. Oh," He adjusted his glasses to get a proper look at her. "You're twins, aren't you?" Up until now, he didn't have the time to get a good look at the duo. He was too busy both scolding them and trying to pass the entrance exam.
"Really?!" A pink-skinned girl stood up in excitement. "I wanna see, I wanna see!"
"Well...yes. I'm Izuku Midoriya," He stepped to the side as Izuka was revealed to the class. "And this is my older twin sister, Izuka. It's super nice to meet you..." He gestured to the girl nervously. Izuka gulped while facing the class as they gasped, taking in the appearances of the twins.
"But she's so small and cute!" A boy exclaimed, having yellow hair and a black streak in one of his bangs.
"H...H...Hello," Izuka spoke up so timidly that they couldn't hear her.
"I'm sorry, you'll have to speak up if you want to greet the class," Tenya gestured to everyone.
"She's always like that with almost anyone, so please excuse her..." Izuku rubbed the back of his neck.
"I see. Well, Midoriyas. You realized that there was something more to the practical exam, didn't you?" He questioned them both, earning a gasp from Izuku. Izuka blinked at him, getting over her anxiousness for just a second. "You must both be very perceptive. And I completely misjudged you both, I admit. As students, you're far superior to me," He looked away in shame.
"Um..." Izuku gave a small sweat drop at the back of his head. I find that hard to believe.
He seems to have a really serious personality... Izuka stared at him.
"Hey! I recognized that messed-up hair and that thick hair!" Ochaco, the girl who was nice to them, appeared from behind. "Falling boy and puppy girl!"
The two turned around with a gasp, shocked to see that she was in their class too. As she was talking, Izuku looked at her wide-eyed. Oh my gosh, it's that nice girl who talked to us! Well, Izuka was hiding...but she looks good in that uniform.
"That punch and shooting star was amazing!" Ochaco smiled while waving a fist around.
"Oh, hey, hi! Oh my gosh!" Izuku looked away with a red face, a hand over his head. Izuka flinched as she wanted to thank the girl too, her hands shaking as she gave a nervous expression. She gripped her skirt tightly. "So, uh, we should probably be thanking you for going in and talking to him."
Katsuki glared at the two, Izuka more so than her brother. "Huh? How'd you know about that?" Ochaco couldn't help but wonder, since her video didn't really mention the twins unlike theirs.
"Oh, I—um—what?" He stammered as he realized that she didn't know about it.
"Um...I-I, uh..." Izuka felt her mind going blank as she couldn't speak what she wanted to tell the girl.
"I can't believe we have not one, but three students from our school heading off to UA!" The principal from Aldera Junior High announced as the three students were summoned to him. "And to think, you're two of them, Midoriyas." Izuku flinched while Izuka was standing between the boys, her hands folded in front of her. The boy could only blush from the praise. "It's a miracle."
"T-Thank...thank you, sir," Izuka spoke up while moving her fingers around. Katsuki glanced at the two with a glare.
The next thing Izuku knew, he was pushed into a wall by Katsuki while Izuka was using the restroom. Izuku hit the wall hard with a grunt. Katsuki then grabbed him by the collar so that the boy could face him. "What did you and mousy do to pass the exam? You two must've cheated somehow, right?" He demanded angrily to Izuku, who could only whimper. "I'm supposed to be the first and only student from this crappy school to get into UA, but you two had to go and screw that all up. I warned the both of you not to apply!" His eyes were white and angry. He then gasped a bit as Izuku grabbed his wrist.
"Kacchan..." The blond gritted his teeth. "Someone I look up to told my sister and I...that we can become heroes! And I was giving my big sister some needed confidence in herself! That's why we applied. That's...why we're going." He then looked up, Katsuki a bit alarmed to see Izuku with a fierce look in his eyes. "Like it or not, you can't stop us!"
"Uh? L-Let him...go, Bakugo-San."
He turned around to see Izuka having just returned from the bathroom. He then scoffed at her, getting over his initial shock. "Oh, what's this now? You're trying and failing again to stand up to me? We both know that-"
Izuka created her crescent moon bow and his eyes widened, since her hands were still shaking. Izuku let out a small gasp as she wasn't preparing her ammo...but she was still going to use it if she needed to, which she had no intention of doing...not unless he pushed her that far. "Let...let Izuku go...now. If you...if you want to get into UA without any trouble...then you'll get your hands off my brother...i-if you can do that...f-for me...then I...I won't tell anyone what I saw."
"Izuka..." Izuku blinked at her giving Katsuki one last chance to reconsider, and that she would try and threaten him. But then again...he probably would've done the same thing, or at least try to calm Katsuki down first. The blond stared at her intensely, gritting his teeth. The air was very tense between the three of them. Unfortunately...she had a point...so he had no choice but to listen.
"...Fine. But I'm not doing it for you," He growled out as he tossed Izuku onto the ground. He stomped off past her, shouldering the girl on the way. "It's so that I can still get into UA and I don't need any of your crap before that happens," He finished as he left. Izuka turned to him with a small glare.
He then gritted his teeth again looking at the duo. I'm gonna ruin that little bastard and mousy. Right after I figure out how they got in. He then looked away towards the wall.
"What do you think we're doing today besides orientation?" Ochaco pumped her fists happily with a big smile on her face. "I wonder what our teachers are like. I can't wait to meet everybody!"
"If you're just here to make friends, then you can pack up your stuff now," A low male voice suddenly spoke up. Izuku yelped as Izuka let out a scared screech, her hair standing up on end. Ochaco let out a nervous sound as a man was in a yellow sleeping bag right behind her. And somehow, no one had noticed him until now. It was the same man who was in the back when the entrance test results were being reviewed. The brunette slowly turned around, letting a scared whimper. They could only stare at him in bewilderment, Izuka hiding behind her brother. "Welcome to UA's hero course," He then unzipped the sleeping bag from the inside a bit, sipping some juice. The four could only gasp in a bit of fear.
What is that thing? They all thought in unison as the man stood up. He then fully unzipped the sleeping bag.
"It took 8 seconds before you all shut up. That's not gonna work. Time is precious," He stepped out, facing everyone. "Rational students would understand that."
Izuku let out a small gasp as none of them could speak at the moment. Who is this guy?
And why does he look familiar somehow? Izuka blinked from behind her brother's shoulder.
If he's here, then he must be some kinda pro. But he looks so worn out. What's his deal? Izuku thought as they examined him. He kinda looked like a homeless man, even though he was supposedly a staff member. He wouldn't be here unless otherwise.
"Hello, I'm Shota Aizawa," He greeted them in a tired tone. "Your teacher."
All of them let out a gasp. Mr. Aizawa definitely didn't seem like a teaching type... Our teacher?
I-Is he always like this? Izuka had some blue lines over her right eye.
He then reached into the sleeping bag. "Right, let's get to it," He pulled out a UA gym uniform. "Put these on and head outside."
They blinked in confusion for his request, wondering why when they were supposed to head for orientation.
All Might was reading a teacher's directory of UA in the teacher's lounge. He had a small frown on his face, as he looked a bit worried. UA's course doesn't follow the normal academic path. The blond man let out a small sigh, looking away skeptically. Get the wrong homeroom teacher, and life is hell.
"What?!" Most of the students exclaimed once they were outside wearing the gym uniforms. "A Quirk Assessment test?"
"But orientation!" Ochaco protested while Izuka was hiding behind the crowd. She was still getting used to the teacher, and by the tone of his voice, he took no nonsense. She just hoped that she wasn't that noticeable for him to start picking her out. Thankfully she was short enough to not be seen... "We're gonna miss it!"
"If you really wanna make the big leagues, you can't waste time on pointless ceremonies," Mr. Aizawa remarked to her, his back turned to the crowd. All of them recoiled back a bit from his tone and how much he just didn't seem to care. "Here at UA, we're not tethered to traditions," He then glanced over his shoulder. "That means that I get to run my class however I see fit." They then all gasped and he eyed the crowd closely. "Hey, short girl with the long green hair. I don't care for the whole hiding routine. Come on out now," He gave a small glare.
Izuka gave a small sweat drop, biting her lip. H-He means me...he must be really perceptive if he found out I was hiding when he can't even see me. She could tell she was already not off to a great start as she slowly stepped towards the front, standing next to her brother and Ochaco. All the students stared at her for a few seconds, and it was complete silence now. The girl kept her hands folded in front of her nervously, avoiding eye contact with anyone. She was also sweating a lot, as she wasn't used to being in the front. Mr. Aizawa gave her a blank look before regaining his focus.
"You've been taking standardized tests most of your lives. But you never got to use your Quirks in physical exams before," He held up his phone. "The country's still trying to pretend we're all created equal by not letting those with the most power excel. It's not rational. One day, the Ministry of Education will learn. Bakugo, you managed to get the most points on the entrance exam," He turned to the blond, earning a small gasp that he knew this. "What was your farthest distance throw with a softball when you were in junior high?"
"67 meters, I think," He answered after thinking about it.
"Right. Try doing it with your Quirk," Mr. Aizawa instructed him and about a minute later, Katsuki was standing in the middle of a white circle, in which distance was being measured in front of him. "Anything goes, just stay in the circle. Go on. You're wasting our time."
Katsuki then stretched his arms to prepare himself. "All right, man, you asked for it." He then planted his foot forward, stretching his lower body. I'll add a little heat to my pitch and drop their jaws. He grinned like a maniac as he prepared his throw, and then threw the ball using his explosion. "Die!" It soared like a comet almost, to the point where it started to fly off into the sky.
"Oh, whoa..." Izuku murmured in a bit of fear; imagine if Katsuki had used it on him in the past...
"So he can throw. Doesn't make him any more of an actual human being," Izuka whispered with a small frown, earning an awkward look from her brother.
Those two are never gonna see eye-to-eye, are they?
"All of you need to know your maximum capabilities," Mr. Aizawa explained as the ball landed and he used his phone for the distance results. "It's the most rational way of figuring out your potential as a pro hero," He then held up his phone, showing that Katsuki got 705.2 meters, earning shocked gasps from the entire crowd.
"Whoa, 705 meters, are you kidding me?" Denki Kaminari asked nervously, a small sweat drop on his face.
"I wanna go!" Mina Ashido pressed her hands together in excitement.
"This is what I'm talkin' about, using our Quirks as much as we want!" Hanta Sero pumped his fists in awe. And this struck a chord in Mr. Aizawa.
"So this looks fun, huh?" He asked in a serious tone, Izuku gasping. Izuka blinked while caught off guard. "You have three years here to become a hero. You think it's all gonna be games and play time? Idiots," He gave a small grin and Izuka gave a terrified look. She did not like where this was going. "Today you'll compete in 8 physical tests to gauge your potential. Whoever comes in last has none, and will be expelled immediately."
"Huh?!" They all exclaimed in shock.
"This means whoever wants to hide and not show any potential at all might as well be in the running for last place. Especially since I was only supposed to have 20 students," He looked at Izuka specifically and she gasped sharply, stepping back a bit with wide eyes. If he meant her...she was gonna have to do a lot in order to prove she had what it took to stay. There was now even more tension between teacher and student.
"Aw crap, they got Aizawa," All Might sweated a little, seeing the teacher's profile in front of him. "The Midoriyas are gonna be singled-out from the start..."
Mr. Aizawa stared at both of them, Izuka trembling while her teeth chattered. Immediate expulsion? 8 tests? Oh, crap. Not good.
He's looking right at me, as if I'll walk out right now. Maybe because he can already tell my personality? Meaning if we aren't strong enough to him, he'll boot us out immediately...
Izuku gasped while looking at his shaking hand. I can only use One for All at either zero or 100 percent right now. I don't have any control yet.
I've gotten a bit better with my attacks, but I only have the one, and it's long-range only! Oh no, this is bad... Izuka gave a small gulp as her eyes shook.
"Like I said, I get to decide how this class runs," Mr. Aizawa spoke again, getting their attention. He then adjusted his hair, having a scary look on his face. "Understand? If that's a problem, you can head home right now." Some people were terrified, others were confident, some indifferent and the twins were very anxious.
A huge test on the first day of school? What the crap are Izuka and I gonna do? Izuku thought while staring at the grinning teacher.
I'm gonna have a hard time getting him to see that I do have potential, and that admitting me wasn't a mistake... Izuka sweated anxiously with a slightly horrified expression.
"You can't send one of us home!" Ochaco protested with a deep frown. "I mean, we just got here! Even if it wasn't the first day, that isn't fair!"
"Oh, and you think natural disasters are?" Mr. Aizawa retorted in response, earning some gasps. "Or power-hungry villains? Hm? Or catastrophic accidents that wipe out whole cities? No, the world is full of unfairness. It's a hero's job to try to combat that unfairness. If you wanna be a pro, you're gonna have to push yourself to the brink. For the next three years, UA will throw one terrible hardship after another at you. So go beyond. Plus Ultra-style," He then waved a finger as if challenging them already. "Show me it's no mistake that you're here," The teacher glanced at Izuka specifically, earning sharp gasps.
Tenya pulled out his water bottle and had a sip. I don't approve of this kind of hazing, but UA's the top hero program. I have no choice.
Katsuki gave a small smirk, rolling his arm around. Time to blow these nerds away.
Ochaco clenched her fists in determination. "Now then. We're just wasting time by talking." Izuku clenched a fist as Izuka took a deep breath to focus. "Let the games begin."
The first test was a 50-meter dash. There was a measuring device nearby. "Runners, on your marks. Ready..." Tsuyu Asui and Tenya were up against each other. Then there was a gunshot noise and then took off, Tenya using his speed and passed first. "3.04 seconds." Tsuyu then hopped from behind and passed the finish line as well, Tenya sliding to a stop.
At 50 meters, I can only get up to third gear.
Tenya Ida, his Quirk: Engine! As you can see, his legs are pretty dang fast! The engines in his calves were emitting smoke.
"Well, he's definitely in his element, but speed won't help him in every test," Mr. Aizawa commented while looking at his phone.
Tsuyu then stood up, as she had gotten 5.58 seconds. She turned around as her long tongue was hanging out.
"I'll lighten up my clothes," Ochaco touched her shoulders and then her feet with a small smile. "Oh, and my shoes, too!"
Ochaco Uraraka, her Quirk: Zero Gravity!
"Get set-" The sound went off again as Ochaco ran off as fast as she could.
She can nullify the gravitational pull of anything she touches. But if she uses her power too much, she totally hurls!
And that was why she threw up after saving the twins in the entrance exam. Because at that point, she had reached her limit.
Mashirao Ojiro jumped past the measuring device using his tail to give him some momentum. "5.49 seconds!" Ochaco then ran right past it. "7.15 seconds."
The girl gave a small gasp, pressing her fingers together. She gave a nervous look, but was happy for herself. Sports tended to not be her strong suit. Well, at least that's faster than junior high!
Yuga Aoyama rubbed his chin, wearing a white belt. He was the one who stole Izuku's point in the entrance exam with his belly button laser. He then glanced down at Mina. "Nice attempts, mon amis," He remarked with his hands on his hips.
"Runners, on your marks!"
"But you're just not showing enough panache!" He jumped up with his hands behind his back as they were allowed to start. He then used his laser to get him across the gap. "Let your powers shine!"
Yuga Aoyama, his Quirk: Navel Laser! That's right, a bellybutton laser.
He landed on the ground as his power had stopped working. This allowed Mina to run right past him.
But he can't shoot it forever.
He tried again, only to get behind Mina in terms of scoring. "5.51 seconds."
Yuga hummed while glancing behind him. "Shooting my beautiful beam for more a second hurts my tummy," He informed, a few other students glancing back at him blankly.
What a tool...
Testing the upper limits of their powers helps me assess their room for growth Mr. Aizawa thought to himself. He thought by having them do the tests, he could see just how much they needed to improve on. It becomes clear what they can and can't do. Their true potential.
Next up was the twins...against Katsuki. "Runners, on your marks." Izuka turned around and summoned her crescent moon-shaped arrow. Mr. Aizawa raised a small brow as she planted her feet. She then pointed her arms downwards while moving up her hand. "Ready..." Izuka moved her hand down as a light came from her hand. As soon as the sound was off, Izuka fired and propelled herself into the air. She squeezed her eyes shut, her hair flying.
Sometimes, pros have to be creative in order to succeed.
Katsuki held up his hands. "Burst speed!" He moved his hands behind him, jumping up as his explosions appeared right behind him. Izuka continued flying across the gap just as he passed first.
"4.13 seconds!"
Katsuki Bakugo, his Quirk: Explosion!
Izuka braced herself as she landed just behind the line. She yelped in pain a bit from the rough landing, rubbing her back. "Ow..."
"4.24 seconds!"
Katsuki glared a bit that she was right behind him. If only she wasn't a few seconds off...
Izuka Midoriya, her Quirk: Galaxy! She can fire shooting star arrows at any time and can utilize components of the solar system...maybe.
Izuku ran up just a few seconds behind his sister. "7.02 seconds!"
"My power has more uses than anyone else's in this school," Katsuki looked at his smoking hands. He then looked up to see Izuku panting. The green-haired girl stood up, dusting herself off as she turned to look at her brother. Pathetic, the both of them.
There are still seven tests. Everyone's gonna be using their Quirks on all of 'em and getting awesome results, including my sister.
"Are you okay?" Izuka gave a small frown that he couldn't use his Quirk for a better score.
"Yeah, I'm fine," He looked up with a small smile. "What about you? That fall looked like it must've hurt."
"I'm fine," She nodded slightly at him. "I think I just gave it a bit too much power..." She rubbed her neck sheepishly.
"But you managed to be second! That's really good, Izuka," Izuku gave her an encouraging smile, Mr. Aizawa staring at the twins. He then looked towards the ground so that she wouldn't see his nervous expression.
So what do I do? I've got a ton of power, but I can only use it once. And it'll break me. Control! That's what I need. He then gritted his teeth, Izuka's eyes softening. Maybe I can focus like All Might suggested. He then clenched his knees.
"Izuku...remember what you were told about this," Izuka placed a hand on his shoulder comfortingly and he gasped.
"You can harness One for All. It's simple...you have to feel it!" All Might leaned backwards a bit as the twins stared at him. They were all at the pier that led to the beach where the twins were trained. Izuku looked away a bit nervously.
"Can you be a little more specific?" Izuku questioned as Izuka tilted her head curiously.
"Is he supposed to have like a sixth sense for it or something?" She wondered while tapping her finger against her chin.
"So you already know what it's like to fire on all cylinders," All Might punched the air, ignoring the questions.
"Yeah, like a lot of broken bones," Izuku pointed out, earning a terrified screech from his sister.
"Too soon...!" She squeezed her eyes shut at the reminder. She didn't need another scare like the entrance exam again...
"Sorry," He gave her a sheepish laugh.
"No, I'm talking about the rush inside," All Might corrected the both of them. "You must have felt it coursing through you. What was it like?"
"Mmm," Izuku racked his brain trying to think. "A bzzt, or no, like whoosh or maybe kapow, or, um...ooh, I know!" He smiled while hitting his fist against his palm. "Like an egg about to explode in a microwave!"
"Uhhh," Izuka stammered a bit while having sweat on the side of her head. "Not sure if that's how I would put it, but you are the one with the One for All in your body, so I probably can't complain," She admitted, since her Quirk was more so distance-based than strength-based.
All Might laughed, blood spurting from his mouth. "That's pretty boring, but okay! If that's the metaphor you wanna go with, then lower the wattage, or decrease the cooking time. Whichever one works. Keep focusing on that image and keeping the egg from exploding, all right?"
Izuku let out a light gasp. "It's like when a person afraid of public speaking imagines something else to help them relax," Izuka pointed out in agreement.
"Oh yeah? What's that like for you?" All Might turned to her and she flinched in alarm. She then looked away meekly, pressing her forefingers together.
"I, uh...I would usually run off before thinking about anything else..." She admitted a bit in embarrassment.
"Should've guessed..." He let out a small breath at her answer.
'I can do that.' Izuku blinked in realization.
"You've got three weeks until school," All Might reminded them both. He then pointed to his forehead. "The more you concentrate, the faster you'll learn. Control over One for All isn't gonna happen overnight. But you'll nail it one day. You just gotta keep trying. Same with you, young lady. Getting used to your Quirk won't happen that quickly, but you'll get it. You just need to keep training your body."
He then looked up to see Izuka giving a small smile. "I promised I'd let you see my Quirk more, remember? But I need you to do that too. We both can't get stronger if we don't learn, right?"
Izuku looked up with more resolve and then nodded. "Yeah! You're right. Thanks, big sister."
She gave a small hum, Mr. Aizawa continuing to look at them both.
Next was the grip strength test. Izuku closed his eyes while standing on a wooden floor. Okay. Keep the egg from blowing up. He then remembered breaking most of his limbs in the entrance exam. Izuku squeezed his eyes shut, vowing to not let that happen this time. A blink occurred and he looked down to see 56 kilograms, gasping in a bit of disbelief.
"Wow!" Hanta exclaimed, getting the attention of him, Izuka, and Minoru. "You hit 540 kilograms? You're such a beast!" He looked up at Mezo Shoji, the one with multiple arms.
"Yeah, like a muscle-y octopus," Minoru commented up at him.
"Ah..." Izuku looked down at his own meter. Izuka let out a small sigh.
"I don't think anyone could compete with that, really..." She looked to see that her score wasn't much better, at only 65 kilograms.
Then there was the standing long jump test. And of course, Yuga used his laser to get across. Katsuki had used his explosions to soar across, and Izuku...didn't even get past the measuring machine. He stumbled and fell onto the sand. Izuka squeezed her eyes shut as she flew across past the measuring device, landing on the sand a few feet away from her brother.
"I really gotta work on my landings..." She grunted in a bit of pain while sitting up, a hand on the side of her head.
Focus... Izuku thought in determination.
Test 4 was repeated side steps. Minoru used his grape projectiles to get him back and forth in rapid succession. Izuku let out a gasp of disbelief at him.
Ball throwing was test 5. Ochaco smiled at the ball in her hand and then used her Quirk on it. And this...caused the ball to continue soaring into the sky, so much that it became a star. Mr. Aizawa looked at his phone, and she had infinity results, as he was surprisingly counting it.
"Infinity?!" The group of students exclaimed at this; even Katsuki was a little surprised himself.
"That's insane! How's that possible?" Denki looked at the brunette in disbelief.
"T-That's farther than my shooting stars, even..." Izuka muttered in a bit of awe; to be fair, she hadn't tested the distance of how far they could go. When she fired against that sludge villain, she was too focused on helping rather than paying attention to how far it went.
Izuku was looking very anxious now. This is bad. I've gotta come up with some kind of a game plan. Everyone's had at least one crazy-good score already.
I've been doing alright, but if either of us don't change things around, we could be expelled on the very first day. Izuka bit her lip in thought, sweating a little. She then snapped out of it; she knew that they could do it, even if they had to try everything that they had. Neither of them were gonna let their dreams go to waste.
Izuku felt a tap on his shoulder, seeing his sister pumping her fists encouragingly with a small smile. He blinked at her expression and smiled a bit too, nodding silently at her. He then looked at the ball in his hand. All that's left is this, the distance run, sit-ups, and the seated toe touch. It's now or never. This is my best chance to use One for All.
Izuka clasped her hands tight standing between Tenya and Ochaco. Katsuki just looked on blankly. "If Midoriya doesn't shape up soon, he's the one going home," Tenya commented with his arms crossed. Izuka and Ochaco looked up at him wide-eyed. "N-Not that I mean to worry you, Midoriya," He waved a nervous hand to her and she didn't respond as she gave a small frown. "And may I say that it might get confusing really quick if you two were to stay," He sweated a bit while rubbing the back of his neck, not sure if he made things better or worse...
"Huh? Of course he is," Katsuki retorted back and Izuka's eyes narrowed, but she didn't look towards him. "He's a Quirkless loser, and his sister's a scared little mouse," He pointed to the both of them, Tenya giving a shocked sound.
"He has a Quirk. And Midoriya herself was brave enough to fight that villain to save you, might I add! Did you not hear about what they both did in the entrance exam?" Tenya defended, to the slight awe of Izuka. It seemed that both of the twins had left an impression on someone who looked down at them at the start.
"Huh? And she didn't even defeat him, so she didn't save me!" Katsuki growled a bit.
"Um..." Izuka tried to speak, but they didn't hear her. She clutched at her pants tightly instead, Ochaco glancing at the girl curiously. She wondered what the green-haired girl was trying to say...they both turned towards Izuku instead, as he was still standing in the middle of the circle.
Here it comes... Mr. Aizawa thought to himself.
Izuku gave a determined look, remembering all of the people who had helped him. "Izuku, Izuka! I'm really proud of you, my children," Inko smiled at the two before they left for school.
"Young man, young lady. You too can become heroes," All Might's hair blew in the wind as he stared down at the twins.
"Alright, Izuku," His sister gave him a nod, smiling gently as she agreed to use her Quirk more. "I'll try my best."
Izuku gritted his teeth to do this for them. He then recoiled his arm back, about to throw the ball as he focused his power into his right arm. I won't let them down!
Mr. Aizawa's eye then turned red as he looked at Izuku heaving the ball...and it landed not that far away from him. "46 meters!" The boy gave a horrified gasp as he thought he put everything he had into that throw...was he now not able to activate it anymore? Izuka gasped sharply as she looked up ahead, wondering what just happened.
What was that? He still has All Might's DNA inside of him, so why did that fail...?
"Uh...what gives?" He looked towards his hands. "I was trying to use it just now."
"I erased your Quirk," Mr. Aizawa revealed, his scarf moving around on its own. Izuku turned to him and gasped, Izuka looking towards him quickly. Everyone was shocked to see Aizawa controlling the scarf himself, his hair flying around. "The judges for this exam were not rational enough. Someone like you or your sister should never be allowed to enroll at this school."
Izuka let out a small gasp, stepping backwards a bit from his declaration. "Wait, you did what to my—uh!" It then finally hit the twins on what the teacher's Quirk was and why he worked here.
"Those goggles!" He looked at a pair of yellow goggles around Mr. Aizawa's neck. "I know you! You can look at someone and cancel out their powers. The Erasure Hero. Eraser Head!"
"Uhh..." Everyone except Izuka was confused as her eyes were shaking in disbelief. Izuku would always show her in excitement when he had something new to show from his notebook about heroes. Or at least hear him mutter while he wrote. So she knew just about every single entry in it.
"Eraser? Who's that?" Hanta wondered as they murmured against themselves.
"Oh, I've heard of him," Tsuyu spoke up in realization. "I think he works on the down-low."
Unknown to everyone, All Might was watching the test, in his muscled form. While he was smiling on the outside, he was very concerned on the inside. Aizawa's one of those guys who doesn't like the media because he thinks they interfere with our work. And he judges celebrity heroes like me because I look good in the spotlight. And considering how Izuka's attack on the sludge villain was already well-known, well...
"You and your sister aren't ready," Mr. Aizawa glared down at Izuku with his glowing red eyes. "Neither of you have control over your powers." Izuku let out a sharp gasp as Izuka flinched with in a bit of fear in her eyes. "Were you planning to break your bones again? And was she planning to fire a powerful arrow, even though she hadn't used her Quirk in years? Counting on someone else to save your useless bodies?" Izuka furrowed her eyebrows in bewilderment, wondering how he knew that fact about her. "I can tell from her shots and landings; anyone fumbling around like that would've gotten control over a Quirk unless they didn't know how to fine-tune it. Which can result in causing serious damage if she reaches her limit too quickly with her own shot."
"No! That's not what we were trying to do!" Izuku protested to the teacher, and suddenly the twins were grabbed by the moving scarf. Izuka gasped, struggling to break free as she was lifted up into the air from behind. He then dragged the twins over to him, Izuka floating by her brother's left side.
"No matter what either of your intentions are, you two would be nothing more than liabilities in battle," He informed them with a stern look on his face and they both gasped. "You have the same reckless passion as another overzealous hero I know. One who saved 1,000 people by himself and became a legend. But even with that drive, you're worthless if you can only throw a single punch before breaking down. Or can only use a Quirk half-hazardly because she doesn't know how to properly use it, and instead treats it like a crutch. Sorry, Midoriyas. With your powers, there's no way you can become heroes."
The two looked at him in shock before Izuku gave a determined frown. Some of the other students gasped looking up ahead. Mr. Aizawa released them both, Izuka landing on the ground next to Izuku. Izuku didn't say anything, looking towards the ground. Izuka had a small shadow over her eyes, gripping the sand underneath her hand as it was shaking. "I've returned your Quirk. Take your final throw. Hurry and get it over with. You might as well go at the same time as your brother." He wanted to see them fail in unison.
She slowly stood up, walking past her brother silently to go to the other circle. She glanced over her shoulder with a lost look on her face while All Might gave a worried sound.
"I wonder if our teacher gave them some advice," Tenya commented while rubbing his chin. Yuga then spoke up to Ochaco about something.
"Probably told them to start packing," Katsuki remarked while looking on.
I really wish he wasn't so rude Izuka glanced at the blond in a bit of annoyance. Katsuki turned to her and she looked away before he could notice her staring. He felt like he was being watched, but maybe he imagined it...he only felt it for a second. The blond narrowed his eyes as Izuka tried to think of what she was gonna do. He then scoffed and looked away.
"I'm here, cheri," Yuga placed a hand on the brunette's shoulder.
"Wait, who are you again?" Ochaco asked in utter confusion.
"I've only got one shot at nailing this," Izuku murmured to himself while holding the ball. "So what am I gonna do?"
"We've gotta think..." Izuka looked down at the ball in her hand.
Mr. Aizawa stared at the two blankly. Is he going to use his Quirk and have to forfeit the rest of the events like a fool? And is she going to use her Quirk or quit before even trying? Given her personality, that seems likely. Or they'll admit defeat and settle into last place? Either way, the twins don't belong here.
Izuka bit at her thumbnail, racking her brain trying to process the words their teacher said. It was obvious to almost everyone else that...compared to them, the twins didn't matter much. But that was why they had to prove to them that they could be heroes like the class wanted to be.
I still can't control my power. But I can't just give up, either Both of them thought in unison.
Do I let the egg explode? It might be my only shot at staying at UA. I have to try something! Izuku squeezed his eyes shut, looking up. No matter what the consequences!
Izuka looked up ahead with determination.
A waste of Quirks. Mr. Aizawa continued staring at them. Izuka held up the ball with her left hand.
Izuku finally acted by heaving his arm back to throw just as Izuka raised her right hand... Mr. Aizawa was right about what he said. The teacher flinched, along with All Might waiting in anticipation. If I can't control my Quirk, there's no way I'll ever become a hero! Izuku threw the ball just as Izuka slid her fingers against the material of her left hand, a white light coming from them.
"Hey, hey, are they for real?" All Might asked in surprise.
The two of us have to work way harder than everyone else here if we wanna succeed. Izuku thought as Izuka took out a deep breath, looking at the ball just as the shooting star formed from the tip of her fingers. Mr. Aizawa continued staring without his expression changing. Even if we have a lot to learn...we'll focus on what we can do right now!
Izuku's sole finger started to glow with red vines just as Izuka pressed two fingers together, her Quirk powering up as her hair flew around thanks to the shooting star.
"SMASH!" Izuku threw the ball with power as Izuka flicked her shooting star with her forefinger, giving her enough power to shoot the ball into the air. This created powerful winds from the both of them. Everyone gasped sharply as Izuku gritted his teeth. Izuka panted softly while slowly putting down her arms, looking up towards the sky with a small beaming smile. It hurts...but not as bad as before.
The finger he threw with was the only one broken, while Izuka's fingers were slightly burning since she had never done her Quirk with her fingers before.
"Were you planning to break your bones again? And was she planning to fire a powerful arrow, even though she hadn't used her Quirk in years? Counting on someone else to save your useless bodies?" The teacher's words repeated for them just as the balls landed...and both of them got 705.3 meters.
"Mr. Aizawa," Izuku spoke up, and he turned to the twins. Izuka glanced over her shoulder at the teacher, still out of breath. He clutched his fist as she held her burning fingers. "You see? We're still standing."
"W-We're...not crutches now..." She breathed out, looking up to the sky with a heavy pant.
Their teacher looked up at them with a grin and wide eyes. "These kids..." He could only say about them.
I was worried about you two, Midoriyas All Might looked on, impressed. But you're doin' a great job. You knew you had to use One for All, but not at full power or else you'd be KO'd. And she realized that she can't always rely on her bow if she hasn't had practice with it, otherwise she'd be open to short-range attacks. So you propelled the ball at the last possible point of contact—by sending the power of your Quirk shooting through your fingertip. Similarly, she propelled the ball by focusing her power of her fingers when she knew it was ready...because she realizes that she makes the power, not the weapon itself she had chosen to rely on. Minimizing the injury to his body while maximizing the throw. Minimizing the potential limit to her body while maximizing the amount of power. What the heck, young Midoriyas? How did you both go and get so cool?
For once, the hero felt like he was the fan instead of the twins looking at the both of them. Izuku was still in pain as Izuka shook off her smoking fingers.
