"Hey! I'm home!"

Jamie hung up his coat and placed his bag in the closet. He saw Cora still lying on the couch, looking straight at him.

"Hi daddy…"

Slowly walking towards the couch, Jamie knelt down in front of it and kissed Cora's forehead.

"Hey ladybug. How are you feeling?"

Cora tried to sit up but felt dizzy. Jamie put a hand on her shoulder and continued his conversation.

"It's ok baby. Just stay lying down. I'll go get you a cool washcloth."

Jamie walked towards the hall closet and reached in for a washcloth. Entering the half bathroom on the main floor, he turned the tap on and got the washcloth wet. Turning the tap off, he wrung the washcloth out so that it was just damp. Entering the living room, he placed the washcloth over Cora's eyes.

"Is that better ladybug?"

Jamie watched as Cora's breathing evened out, which alerted him that she was asleep. He saw Eddie come into the living room.

"She sleeping?"

Jamie nodded his head and ran a hand through Cora's dark curls.

"I just gave her a cool washcloth and put it over her eyes. She fell right to sleep. I still can't believe she's becoming a young woman. It seems just like yesterday when she was asking me to carry her on my shoulders. Has she eaten anything today?"

Eddie shook her head.

"No. I tried getting her to eat some saltines and sip on some ginger ale, she didn't want it. I made her some soup, she didn't even touch it. She's been sleeping most of the day."

Jamie sighed and nodded. This was just really hard for him.

"I know. I need to stop babying her. She's not a little girl anymore. I can't help it though. She's our first baby."

Eddie placed a hand on Jamie's cheek and caressed it for a moment.

"She'll always be our baby. I should wake her up so she can go to bed."

Jamie put a hand on Eddie's left one and shook his head.

"In a few minutes. We should get her to eat something. She was dizzy a few minutes ago. The combination of not eating all day and the blood loss, her sugar is low."

Furrowing her eyebrows, Eddie shook her head.

"How?"

Jamie raised an eyebrow at Eddie and then dipped his head towards the floor.

"I took her blood sugar while you were in the kitchen. It's down to 65. That's why we need to get her to eat something."

Eddie nodded and gently shook Cora's shoulder.

"Cora honey. It's time to wake up. You need to eat something."

Cora reached up a hand to remove the washcloth from over her eyes and cracked them open.

"I guess I could eat some soup. Got some chicken noodle?"

Jamie and Eddie helped her sit up. But it was Jamie who spoke next.

"You still feeling dizzy? Nauseous?"

Cora shook her head no.

"I'm fine dad. It seems like you are always in doctor mode. I'm fine."

Jamie nodded and let Eddie help her up.

"Ok, I'm around when you need me."

Eddie helped Cora up and into the kitchen.

"I'll heat up the soup. Here. Have some strawberry juice."

She was so thirsty. She'd been drinking nothing but water all day. Smelling the soup, Cora smiled.

"I always did love your chicken noodle soup mama."

Eddie poured some into a bowl and set it down on the table. Then she poured some more strawberry juice in a glass and set it next to the soup. She was just happy Cora was feeling a little better.

"DADDY!"

Jamie was startled awake, and he sat stock straight in bed for a moment. Gaining his bearings, he quickly got out of bed and went down the hallway to Cora's room.

"What's wrong honey?"

Cora continued to cry.

"It hurts daddy!"

Jamie went to sit on the edge of the bed and frowned, worry lines creasing his forehead.

"Where does it hurt baby?"

Cora pointed towards her stomach.

"Here!"

Jamie swallowed hard and he willed his hands to stop shaking. His mind however kept flashing back to when Cora was nearly 2. He hoped this wasn't a repeat of that incident again. Letting out the breath he hadn't noticed he was holding, he gently pressed down on her stomach.

"Does it hurt when I press down? Or when I let go?"

Cora shook her head.

"Not my stomach!"

Jamie felt a pit begin to form in his stomach.

"Honey, you need to go to the hospital. It's your Appendix."

Cora looked at Jamie with wide and frightened eyes.

"Daddy, can't you just take it out?"

Jamie shook his head and yelled out into the hallway.

"Ed! Call 911 now!"

Cora felt her bottom lip tremble and more tears rolled down her cheeks.

"Why not daddy?"

Jamie shook his head again as he saw Cora try to move.

"Don't try and move baby girl. I can't because you're my family and I'm not a general surgeon. I deliver babies."

Eddie wrung her hands in nervousness and tried to concentrate on the magazine in front of her. Meanwhile Jamie paced back and forth in the waiting room. Patrick, Maisie, Keena and Kaitlyn were with Henry down at the snack machine. Frank was sitting in a row of chairs with Danny, Erin and Linda by his side. A doctor came out to the waiting room and spoke up.

"Family of Cora Reagan?"

Jamie stopped pacing and approached the doctor. Eddie was immediately by his side and threaded her left hand in his. The doctor gave Jamie a surprised looked.

"Doctor Reagan, I didn't realize Cora is your daughter. She just came out of surgery and is doing well. We're just rolling her into recovery now. You got her here just in time before her Appendix could burst. You can go and see her if you'd like. Two family members at a time though."

Jamie and Eddie followed the doctor down the hall and into a private recovery room. Eddie entered first and Jamie followed. She approached the bed and reached for Cora's hand, squeezing it.

"Honey, it's mama. I'm right here. Daddy's here too."

Jamie swallowed. He didn't like seeing Cora like this. It was bringing him to his knees figuratively speaking anyways. Stepping forward, he ran a hand through her hair and kissed her forehead.

"It's ok honey. We're both here. I'm glad your going to be ok."

"Mom! Have you seen my laptop?"

Eddie looked up from clearing the dishes from the table. Going out through the swinging kitchen door, she answered her.

"It's under your bed! School starts in 10 minutes!"

Cora nodded.

"Thanks mom! Aren't you going to work today?"

Eddie wrung her hands, a nervous habit.

"I'm not feeling too good today…"

Jamie came down the stairs and towards the kitchen.

"You ok babe?"

Eddie nodded and went back through the swinging door to the kitchen, continuing to clear the table. Jamie put a hand on Eddie's to stop her from what she was doing. She took a breath and looked Jamie in the eye.

"Uh, I'm pregnant bub."

Jamie's eyes widened. The his lips curved into a smile.

"Really?"

Eddie bit her lip and nodded.

"Are you ok with this?"

Jamie nodded.

"Of course I'm ok with it babe. You just got promoted and I'm being promoted for Chief of Department soon. This baby makes six."

Eddie nodded and swallowed.

"When should we tell the kids?"

Jamie pulled Eddie in for a kiss, and when they broke for air, a smile was still on Jamie's face.

"We'll tell the kids tonight. Should we got out and celebrate? Or should we have a dinner at home with the whole family?"

Eddie put an index finger to her chin and smiled.

"Let's have Thai food tonight. I've been craving something spicy."

Jamie shook his head and whispered in Eddie's ear.

"This baby is going to have a lot of hair."

Eddie gave Jamie a look.

"Do you really believe that bub? I thought it was an old wives tale?"

Jamie shrugged his shoulders.

"Mmm, maybe… You never know if it was proven or not."
