Jamie never felt prouder of Eddie that he did at this moment. She'd worked hard to get where she was now. He sat in the audience filled with other cops and their families. Patrick, Maisie, Keena, Kaitlyn and Cora sat with him. On the other side sat Henry, Danny, Sean, Jack, Nicky and Erin. Frank stood at the podium giving a speech.
"We are all here today to honor and recognize the brave men and women of the NYPD who protect and serve the citizens of New York City. There have been many over the years to walk this stage and as always, I am very proud and honored to be representing the rank and file of the NYPD. Today we honor those who went above and beyond the call of duty. Officer Edit Janko, please step forward. Over the last thirteen years you've made numerous arrests including six serial killers. So today, I am proud and honored to present this gold shield to you and you've earned the promotion to sargeant. Congratulations Sargeant Janko."
The entire Reagan clan stood up and began clapping. Cora smiled at her mother and clapped as best she could. She as proud of her mother, and everything she'd done to keep the city safe.
"You must be so proud of your dad Cora."
Cora gave a polite smile. She'd known Mara since she was very little, even before she could really remember her.
"My dad has always put his whole heart into his job. He's helped bring a lot of babies into the world."
Eddie looked over at Jamie with a concerned expression on her face.
"Bub, where are the rest of the kids?"
Jamie gave her a smile and nodded his head.
"With pop. Maisie was getting ants in her pants and so he took them to the vending machine. I told him no sugary drinks. Doubt he'll listen."
Patrick was the one to wander over to a collage with different photos of his dad with various babies.
"Am I in any of the pictures dad?"
Jamie felt his smile grow.
"Yes you are bud. You are right here."
Patrick made a face at the photo.
"Why am I so wrinkly and red?"
Jamie chuckled and put a hand on Patrick's shoulder.
"Babies are always wrinkly and red when their first born. Mara took that picture about 10 minutes after you were born."
Patrick looked back up at Jamie.
"Can I meet the doctor who helped mom and I?"
Jamie chuckled some more but tried to stifle it.
"You're looking at him bud."
Patrick groaned and stared at his dad.
"Really dad?"
Jamie nodded and ruffled Patrick's hair.
"I'm sorry Pat am I embarrassing you?"
Patrick shook his head.
"No, just underwhelming."
Patrick moved and sat down in a chair, Jamie following behind him.
"There were no other doctors around at the time you were being born. They were all busy. I did what I had to, to save you and your mom. Your mom was very sick with you. She almost died. Three months before you were born, your mom got really sick. Her stomach was hurting her. Turns out her blood wasn't getting through one of the veins inside her. She had to have surgery to fix it. We weren't even sure that you were ok. We were afraid you would have to be born that same day. But you were ok, and your mom was ok."
Patrick looked at Jamie and frowned.
"Why didn't you just say blood clot dad? I know what one is. Only because you told me."
Jamie nodded his head and sighed.
"Right. I did tell you."
Cora piped up from behind father and son.
"What are you complaining about dad delivering you for? At least you were born in the hospital. I was born in an old, hot and stinky warehouse!"
Patrick made a face.
"Gross!"
Jamie shook his head at his kid's antics. He put a hand up.
"To be fair honey, your mom and I didn't have choice in that matter. We'd been kidnapped."
Cora got wide eyed.
"Oh, so that's why you are super overprotective of me."
Jamie felt a sense of pride begin to grow inside him.
"Same goes for all of you."
Patrick nodded and looked Jamie in the eye.
"I think you have a point dad. At least Cora and I weren't born in the sunroom of poppy's house. Ew!"
Father and son were interrupted by an uproariously loud set of triplets and Henry coming into the conference room. Keena was the first to speak.
"Look daddy! Poppy got us sugar cookies!"
Jamie let out a groan and shook his head.
"Pop! I thought I said no sugar!"
Keena, Maisie and Kaitlyn had finished off their cookies and were bouncing around the room. Henry chuckled and looked to Jamie.
"Two cookies each isn't going to hurt those little angels Jameson. Let them be kids."
Jamie felt his shoulders slump.
"I guess you're right, but I'm trying to limit their sugar. You got those from the vending machine?"
Henry shook his head.
"No. We ended up going to the cafeteria. They'd just made a fresh batch of cookies."
Jamie smiled; he didn't love those cookies. Not as good as his grandfathers of course. But still good.
"I do love those cookies. Not as good as yours of course pop, but still good. Did you bring Eddie and I one?"
Henry gave a smirk and handed Jamie a couple of sugar cookies.
"I didn't forget the two of you. Here."
Jamie took the cookies and handed one to Eddie. Eddie's smile grew.
"I love these cookies. Thanks, pop."
Jamie was glad the family could be there with him. But he was also glad that the younger kids hadn't been there for the gorier stories Mara had been telling everyone. The watered-down version of course. Mara motioned for Jame to take off his lab coat and he obliged. Then he slipped into his new lab coat and smiled once more.
"This one doesn't feel any different from my old one."
Mara smirked and shook her head.
"Except for the 'Chief of Obstetrics' above your name."
Eddie tugged on Jamie's lab coat.
"Have I ever told you how good you look in that starch white lab coat?"
Jamie had a full-fledged smile on his face.
"More than once."
Eddie leaned towards Jamie, and they shared a long kiss. They could hear all their kids behind them groan.
"Gross!"
When the couple pulled apart, they leaned their foreheads together and sighed. Everything was perfect at the moment.
