"Ok. I know it's early everybody, but we have a very important person coming to the house today. I want all five of you on your best behavior."

Patrick stifled a yawn and wiped some sleep from his eyes and then asked his question.

"Are we making the house all super clean for poppy and great grandpa?"

Jamie shook his head no.

"Not poppy and great grandpa bud. This person is coming to make sure the house is safe for another person to live in."

Patrick was already putting the puzzle pieces together.

"Wait, are you and mom adopting that baby you've been visiting every day after work?"

Jamie nodded and pulled up Liam's photo on his phone.

"That is the plan. Yes. His name is Liam. He's a month old and I know your all going to love him."

Cora looked at Jamie and asked her question.

"Uh dad? This person isn't going to look into anything personal of ours, are they?"

Jamie shook his head no in all seriousness.

"No. But she would like to meet all of you separately to see how you all behave and how you all are around Sadie."

Eddie took this moment to step in and look at all the kids.

"So, how are we all feeling about this? Are you guys nervous?"

Keena was bouncing up and down.

"I'm excited mama. But I gotta go to the bathroom."

Eddie nodded.

"You don't have to ask honey. It's not like when you're at school. Go on."

Eddie watched her red-headed little girl race towards the bathroom. Shaking her head, she gave Jamie a look. Jamie reciprocated and gave a small laugh, then changed the subject.

"Well, now that you all know what's going on today, who wants daddy's famous pancakes?"

All the kid's hands rose up.

"ME!"

Jamie let out a laugh and smiled.

"Alright, everyone into the kitchen to help me cook. Let's go!"

Eddie smiled and pulled him in for a quick kiss. When they parted, she patted his chest.

"I'm going to check on Sadie. See if she's hungry."

Jamie smiled at Eddie and disappeared through the swinging kitchen door.

"Ok! Who's ready to make pancakes?"

Eddie laughed and made her way up the stairs and to the nursery. Entering, she found Sadie was awake and starting to fuss. Putting the side railing down on the crib, Eddie carefully picked Sadie up.

"Good morning munchkin. How'd you sleep?"

Sadie fussed even more as Eddie carried her back to her and Jamie's bedroom. Getting comfortable on the bed, Eddie got situated and watched as Sadie latched on and began to suckle. Tracing her nose, Eddie smiled down at Sadie.

"You are getting so big munchkin. Your daddy and I are going to adopt a little brother for you to play with. His name is Liam. You'll love him."

Eddie watched as Sadie smiled up at her and continued eating. There was a knock on the door, and then Jamie's voice behind it.

"Is it alright if I come in?"

Eddie let out a giggle.

"Yes bub, you can come in."

Jamie slowly opened the door and then quickly entered the bedroom. Re closing the door, he smiled at Eddie and Sadie.

"There's my girls."

Eddie smiled at Jamie and then turned her attention back to Sadie. She was starting to get squirmy, which these days meant she was done eating. Jamie took Sadie from Eddie's arms, and she was straightening herself up when she saw him looking at her as he was burping Sadie. She pointed a finger at him.

"Jamie Reagan, don't go there right now."

Jamie placed a few kisses to the crown of Sadie's head as he heard a few burps escape.

"Go where? We'll have time for us tonight, right?"

Eddie looked at Jamie with mischievous eyes.

"Easy there bub. Although I could be persuaded to get some time in right now…"

Jamie finished burping Sadie and let out a small, dissatisfied groan.

"I probably should check on the kids. We finished making the pancakes. You'd better get down there before there isn't anymore. Tonight, we'll have some time for us. Come on, let's go downstairs and get Sadie settled in the kitchen with the other kids and get something to eat."

Eddie smiled and rose from the bed. The couple with Sadie headed downstairs and even through the swinging kitchen door, they could hear the kids being noisy. Jamie put on his fake stern face as he pushed the door open with his free hand.

"Hey. What's going on in here guys?"

Every one of the kids at the table froze and looked up at Jamie with wide eyes. Cora pushed her chair back and stood up and looked at the floor.

"I know we shouldn't be yelling daddy. It's my fault. Everyone else wanted to finish off the pancakes and then Patrick said he would finish them and I said, 'why don't we leave some for dad and mama?"

A smile slowly came to Jamie's face and a laugh escaped.

"You're not in trouble ladybug. Thanks for thinking of your mom and I. Remember everyone, we are going to be on our best behavior today. So, let's eat up and start cleaning."

All the kids quickly emptied their plates and began clearing the table. Each taking their plates to the sink and letting them soak. Cora put her hand up and then pointed at Patrick.

"Wait you guys, we should rinse these and put them in the dishwasher. Then run it. Mama has like a million things on her mind today. Let's help her out."

Patrick sighed and nodded.

"Ok. But there better be something in it for me."

Jamie sighed and then looked at Patrick.

"Paddy, no bribing your sister please."

Patrick turned to Jamie and gave him a look.

"Dad! I don't want to be called Paddy anymore! I'm Pat!"

Pretending to give Patrick a stern look, Jamie felt a smile tugging at his lips.

"Sorry bud. Old habits are hard to break I guess."

Patrick rolled his eyes at Jamie as he walked by and ruffled his hair.

"Dad…"

One arm balancing Sadie up against his shoulder, he held a hand up.

"Alright bud. I promise not to embarrass you, ok?"

"Please come in Janet. Would you like something to drink? Please have a seat."

Janet Marlinson stepped into Jamie and Eddie's home. Eddie was doing her best not to look nervous. Janet smiled politely at Eddie and responded.

"Water would be great please."

Jamie came into the room with Sadie and set her on the floor under her baby play gym. A smile came to her face as she swatted a left hand at a soft purple butterfly hanging above her head. Jamie placed a hand on her tiny belly and rubbed it. She smiled at her daddy as he moved the soft yellow sun next to the purple butterfly.

"That's the sun princess. Do you like all these colors?"

Janet took the opportunity to join the conversation.

"She's beautiful. She's 6 months old?"

Jamie nodded and moved the soft yellow sun one more time with his index finger, then turning his attention to Janet.

"Yes. She is. She's really a calm baby. Who would you like to interview first?"

Eddie arrived back in the living room with a glass of water for Janet. Taking a sip and placing it on a coaster on the coffee table, she looked Jamie in the eye and spoke.

"I would like to talk with Cora first."

Jamie nodded and got up from the far end of the couch.

"I'll send her down."

"Thank you for inviting me into your home Mr. and Mrs. Reagan. You have a lovely home and well-behaved and thoughtful kids. I'll be letting you know my assessment in a few days by phone and by email. Have a good rest of your day."

Jamie showed Janet out of the house and closed the front door, letting a silent breath he'd been holding. All five kids rushed down the stairs and looked up at Jamie expectantly. Cora put in her two cents.

"Well dad, is Liam going to be part of our family?"

Patrick nodded and joined the conversation.

"Yeah dad, is Liam going to be our brother?"

Jamie ran his hands over his knees and shook his head.

"We'll know in a few days. But things are looking good."

This elicited cheers from the kids, startling Sadie who'd fallen asleep in the Pack and Play in the corner of the living room. Eddie made a face and went over to Sadie, picking her up.

"It's ok honey. Your brother and your sisters didn't mean to startle you. They are just excited."

Sadie seemed to calm at the sound of Eddie's voice. She cooed and her eyes closed. She was fast asleep in a minute.
