Percy and Grover never broke off their empathy link, so they still felt each other's emotions throughout the years, including the negative ones. So when Grover was anxious about something, Percy could comfort him, and visa versa. However, the most challenging thing about this was when Percy and Annabeth were in Tartarus. Grover felt what Percy was feeling, but he didn't tell anyone unless it was a good emotion. This was because he didn't want everyone to know how much they were suffering, and also because of dark Percy. He was shocked and frightened by this, but also felt Percy's fear of this side of himself. Grover knew when Percy started to feel overwhelmed, and could calm him down. Others would always wonder how, but Annabeth suspected why.
