A/N: This is a chapter I originally wrote as potentially the entire sequel here, back before I got the idea that hey, the Supreme could be a woman, I could come up with a whole plot here. Enjoy!
In Another Universe, Some Time Before
Shortly after Marinette followed Claw Noir through the portal to fight the Supreme, Shay left Adrien behind in the living room to pick up her waking daughter from the nursery.
Shay welcomed the feelings that rushed through her at the sight of the baby girl, still not quite used to the way that happiness clawed away the dark that had been a hallmark on her life before Adrien had shown her another path.
"Hello, little light," she murmured, picking up the whimpering infant. Elaine quieted down in her mother's arms as she was gently brought back out into the living room.
Shay rejoined Adrien on the couch, feeding Elaine while propped up on her pillow. The damn thing was a lifesaver; thank god Blondie had done enough research to make up for her own tendency to say, "Fuck it, I'll figure it out as it comes."
Adrien's thumb lightly brushed their daughter's arm as she fed, but it was clear his mind was still on the two that had just left their living room. "How long do you think it will be? Until we know more about how it goes over there?"
Shay shrugged. "Claw told me he would come back whenever he could, as long as Bunnilark shows up to let him."
Adrien's mouth turned down, and they both glanced over to where the miracle box was hidden beneath the entertainment stand.
They all had known it was a risk for Marinette to go without taking the other Miraculous. Adrien was acting as temporary guardian over the box, as Marinette had decided that the desire to keep from losing any of them in the fight with the Supreme was more important than having the ability to use them in the fight.
An unfortunate side effect of this was that it left them unable to return to this universe without Bunnilark's help.
Shay huffed. Relying on the damn bunny who showed up whenever she pleased did not seem like the better option to Shay, but what did she know? She'd never been responsible for an entire set of Miraculous before, so she hadn't argued with the woman.
"Well, the fleabag did tell me not as much time had passed on that side as over here, so maybe we won't have to wait as long for her to bring them back for updates."
The words had barely left her mouth when the portal reappeared, startling the both of them.
Claw stepped partway through the opalescent rectangle, looking wildly around until he locked his gaze on them. "Oh good, you're still here." His expression was oddly manic, a strange mix of panic and excitement.
"Uh, yeah, we're still here. You haven't been gone—"
Claw was barely listening to her, interrupting with a nervous energy. "Okay, we're bringing the baby—" He cut off, his body disappearing partially as someone dragged him back from the other side.
Adrien and Shay glanced at one another in bewilderment, and she gripped her daughter tighter. "What the hell? He's not taking Elaine over there, why would he—"
"Okay, change of plan," Claw said, only his head reappearing. "Not bringing the baby over here yet. Bunnilark changed her mind and thinks we should wait to cross. I'll be back—"
"Wait, Claw—"
He disappeared, as did the portal.
A moment of silence passed before Shay turned to Adrien. "What the fuck was that? Was he talking about Elaine?"
Adrien merely shook his head in confusion. "I don't think so. I think he meant from that side."
That also made no sense. "Why would they bring a baby back here?"
They waited for a little while, before finally deciding to turn the TV on.
Thirty minutes into the movie, with Elaine now back asleep in Adrien's arms, the portal appeared again.
Claw's head popped through, his eyes filled with panic. "The baby's fucking coming. Just letting you know, I gotta get back or she's gonna kill me—"
"Hey, no, stop—" Shay had leapt up, determined to grab the mangy cat by his scruff and drag him back to explain whatever the hell he was talking about, and what bringing a baby back had to do with defeating the Supreme.
Unfortunately, the portal disappeared, and Shay grabbed at air, barely catching herself from falling.
She scowled at the empty space, kicking at nothing.
How dare that good-for-nothing jackass of a feline show up and be so cryptic?
Unless…
Clearly, time was passing by more quickly on the other side. Was it possible that that much time had passed? Enough to allow for…
The portal reopened, interrupting her thought process, and Claw walked through without stopping this time.
Shay lunged for him, grabbing him by his jacket and yanking him away from the portal. She threw her hand against his chest and pushed, watching him stumble away as she angrily demanded in a whisper, "You are going to stay right the fuck here and explain what the hell is going on, Claw."
He fell back into the armchair, clearly startled and a little pissed off at her. "Geeze, I'm sorry. I know it's been a while, but damn."
It was then that she noticed he seemed to be in a completely different mood from before. Any excitement was gone, replaced by a pinched sort of worry.
For a moment, a tiny sliver of fear shot through her. He'd been excited before, but now? Had something gone wrong? When he'd said he was bringing a baby across, she'd started to think he was talking about his own child, as crazy as that was. But when he'd shown up yet again and no baby followed…
Her voice softened. "Claw, what happened?"
His eyes flicked up to hers. "I'm worried about her," he said, his voice strained.
Adrien reached for her hand with his free one, gripping it tightly as he picked up on her immediate increase in stress levels. "What's going on?" His voice remained quiet, conscious of the sleeping infant in his arms.
Claw let out a breath. "It sounds stupid, I know, but she keeps having these nosebleeds, and getting dizzy at random times. And before you ask, yes, she's eating." He gave Shay a pointed look, but she was too busy trying to understand how you could tell that a baby was dizzy.
Adrien spoke up next, "Have you taken her to a doctor?"
Claw made a face. "She won't go."
Confusion blossomed within her, tinged with anger. "What do you mean she won't go? You gotta take her, Claw. Isn't she yours? You have a responsibility."
He gave her a strange look. "I…what? Mine?"
"Aren't you talking about the baby? Or is she not yours?"
He seemed bewildered by that. "What? No, I'm talking about Marinette."
Shay huffed, her own anger getting the better of her. "Just tell us if the baby is okay, Claw. I can't handle this fucking waiting around for you to spit it out."
Claw stared at her as though she was crazy. "What the hell are you talking about, Shade?"
"What do you mean what am I talking about? You can't fucking show up here and tell us a baby is coming and that you'd be over here with it and then not bring a damn baby back with you!"
Confusion remained the prominent expression on Claw's face. "I'm telling you, Shay, I have no idea what you're talking about. I never said any of that."
"Yes you did, I'm telling you, you showed up here, and…and…" She stopped talking, exactly what he'd said previously running through her head.
Claw had said he was about to bring the baby over. Then, the next time, he'd said the baby was coming.
Shay narrowed her eyes at the empty space where the portal had been, though she saw no sign of the holder that must have been waiting on the other side.
Probably laughing her ass off right now.
Damn time travel fuckery.
"The bunny is sending you back here in reverse, Claw."
The realization came with a quick swell of relief, rushing over her and making room for amusement at the situation.
At the same time, the confusion seemed to multiply on Claw's face. "Reverse? Hold on, but the last time I was here, I asked your advice on Marinette."
Shay shook her head, a smirk forming on her lips.
Claw still seemed to be attempting to wrap his mind around the situation. "You're saying that I come back in the future, and say…something about a baby, and…" He trailed off this time, the gears turning.
His eyes widened, the color leaving his face as he stared at Shay, something clicking into place. "Oh fuck, she's pregnant, isn't she?" He leapt to his feet in one motion, beginning to pace frantically. "No, wait, that doesn't make sense." He turned back to them both abruptly. "Are nosebleeds a sign of that?"
Shay shrugged. "Sunshine here'll know. He did all the research."
She looked at Adrien who frowned, carefully pulling out his phone as he searched. "Yeah, looks like it might be."
Claw laughed once, before it turned into a groan as he ran a hand through his hair. "She's going to kill me, goddamnit—"
Shay and Adrien shared a smile as Claw continued to curse up a storm. "But she's been getting them for months, how would she not know?" He abruptly stopped and faced them. "But it's going to turn out alright? I came back here, after all?"
"You did," Adrien said reassuringly.
Claw tilted his head back, closing his eyes as he took a few deep breaths. After a minute or two, a small smile formed on his face. "She doesn't kill me."
Shay interjected, now feeling impatient to know more. "And the Supreme? How is that going?"
Claw's eyes opened. "We're close. Really close, I think. I hope." His smile faltered. "I need to go back." As he said it, the portal opened up again, Bunnilark striding through.
Claw immediately headed for her, though before he left he turned his head, a grin appearing. "I'll catch you in your past." He stepped with Bunnilark beyond the portal for a few minutes, and Shay imagined he was telling her exactly how pissed he was at her. Finally, the portal vanished, and Bunnilark gave a quick wave before disappearing into one of her own.
As soon as the smell dissipated, Shay snorted out a laugh. "I told him she'd make a good friend for him, and the damn furball got her pregnant." She couldn't contain her laughter, now that the situation had become more clear. Adrien smiled, relieved as well.
When Shay got a hold of herself, Adrien leaned over, being careful not to jostle Elaine as he kissed her. Afterwards, he grinned. "Apparently our Kwamis are determined for us to have kids together in every universe."
Shay let out a single laugh, her hand reaching up to thread through his hair as she leaned her forehead on his. "Maybe I messed up the balance by coming over here, and them getting together over there will fix it. Or," Shay paused, glancing around to find her Kwami. "Or, Tikki here really just loves babies that much."
She spotted her curled up with Elaine in Adrien's arms, Plagg beside her.
Tikki's head popped up, an innocent smile on her face.
Adrien moved his hand over, using one finger to gently pet the Kwami. Then he said, "You know, is that really responsible of you to meddle right now? They're supposed to be fighting the Supreme over there."
"It's like the galettes." Tikki let out a sigh, closing her eyes to snuggle back in. "Sometimes, I simply can't help myself. But it wasn't all my fault, this time."
Shay just laughed, waiting to see what would happen next.
