To my dear readers and reviewers, thanks for reading this story. I feel the need to share some private information with you as why it takes me a long time and why my updates are sporadic and why on occasion I will disappear from a story, I am Autistic and have ADD/ADHD.
My interests/obsessions come and go. Sometimes I will stick with something for a long period of time or sometimes the interest/obsession will go away after a month or two.
So please bare with me when I do update.
Without further ado, I bring you Chapter Six of A Nightmare Season.
Chapter 6- The Missing Staff
Some days before Jack Frost gets sick:
Some days before Jack knew he was sick, he had discovered another Winter Sprite had invaded his territory.
Jack didn't have the time to deal with the new comer as his snow schedule was crazy. But he had no other choice but to deal with the Winter Sprite.
While it was a fight that he wouldn't remember having, it was the outcome of the fight, he would remember. He would remember it for the rest of his immortal life.
He would remember it because it was the day he lost his staff. The staff he had used to rescue his little sister from thin ice a really really long time ago.
While Jack knew that his emotions were linked to his staff, what he hadn't known was without his staff keeping his emotions in check, Winter in Burgess would be dangerous.
The last thing Jack knew before loosing consciousness, was that he no longer had his staff.
However his last conscious thought before everything had gone black was, "Hope, keep hope".
It would be three days before Jack came to and another day before he made it to the North Pole for help and by that time he was already sick.
The other Guardians (Tooth and Baby Tooth, Bunny, and Sandy) were waiting anxiously for North.
North had been pacing in the Globe room and also kept looking at the darkening spot on the globe where they all knew the Town of Burgess was.
"Well, North you said you had some news to share with us. So what is it?" Bunny asked nervously.
North sighed and turned to look at his friends and team mates.
"Jack's staff is missing. Listen to this, Out of all the Seasonal Spirits, the Winter Spirit is the strongest. Their powers are based around their emotions, which is why these spirits carry a staff of some sort as a conduit. Without this conduit, their power is nearly uncontrollable especially when they are unconscious.
The places that the Winter Spirit considers home is the most effected and will cause havoc without meaning to or if they are unconscious, most likely unknowingly. Even if they have their staff during that time.
It has recently been discovered that when exhausted, the Winter Spirit can fall ill and that's when they are the most vulnerable to their own kind. Rumors of others of their own kind have been known to steal territory or even the conduit itself, has been confirmed.
If you find an unconscious or a sickly Winter Spirit, make sure it has its staff.
As a side note, don't remove the Spirit from its location, protect the Spirit and its territory.
If the Spirit is unconscious or sickly and doesn't have its staff, find a new one as soon as possible. It has been known and witnessed, that their uncontrollable storms can kill.
We need to find Jack's staff and quickly because if we don't, Jack's storm can and will turn deadly if hasn't already" North said as he closed the book that he had just read from.
The three Guardians stared at their leader.
"Did Jack know any of this?" Tooth asked but then quickly answered her own question with,
"No, because he didn't know what or who he was at the beginning of his immortal life."
At this Bunny started to panic, this was worse than the Blizzard of '68.
He was snapped out of by Sandy with the help of sleep sand.
"Where was he last before he got sick?" Bunny asked after a bit.
Since Jack was the youngest out of all of them, North had hidden a special tracker in Jack's Hoodie.
North typed some stuff into the computer they had and waited for the result.
"The Lake in Burgess" North said.
"Well, crap." Bunny said.
With that the Four Guardians made for North's Sleigh to start their most dangerous adventure yet.
