Chapter 11: Carrie and Desjardin

(Later at Metropolis, evening…)

We came back to Metropolis that evening.

Where Clark was back at the Daily Planet.

In the printing room.

Printing the pictures he took at Carrie and as they finished he kept examining fire that Ewen High School and Teddy's Gas Station that was burnt down.

He even remembered seeing Harry and Greg were killed by Carrie at the ground.

Clark didn't know what Carrie meant; he doesn't even know if it's one from Chamberlain like her telekinesis of hope either way Clark was stumped till he was startled hearing the door open and looked back to see Lois come in.

"Hi. I heard you were back but I didn't hear from you." Lois replied.

"Sorry. I meant to call. I just got caught up." Clark replied.

"I saw you on TV earlier. What happened down there?" Lois asked.

"I found out these incidents happening in Chamberlain are not accidents. I didn't see any flying figures but…found this." Clark said.

Clark showed her the pictures of those Carrie which made Lois curious herself.

"Is that Carrie White?" Lois asked in concern.

"Yeah." Clark replied.

"You talked to Perry. You arrived in Chamberlain, Maine?" Lois asked in concern.

"Yes. Perry talking about Carrie. I talked to Principal Henry Morton and Ms. Rita Desjardin." Clark replied.

"Ewen High School?" Lois asked in concern.

"That's right." Clark replied.

"Is Carrie dead?" Lois asked in concern.

"I don't know. Principal Morton talked about Carrie being suspended and telekinesis for breaking another student's hand. There was a kind of misunderstanding at gym class. They were trying to teach them to trust one another and his students Sue Snell, Tommy Ross, George Dawson, and Erika Gogan accused Carrie White of…well of her stalking them at prom in some way. They had her help Carrie from it but then she…somehow hurt hand like how she was crushing her house can." Clark explained.

"Are you sure?" Lois asked in concern.

"Carrie had become an easy target of bullying from the sixth grade and beyond into High School, especially from her class group The Mortimer Snerds, led by Chris Hargensen and her friends. Carrie killed 236 students in the Black Prom Massacre at Ewen High School and Teddy's Gas Station one year later. But after her suspicion was over we had her talk to our former school counselor who's also Carrie's mother Margaret White. But before her father Ralph White died in a car crash. But after her mother was killed by Carrie in her house." Clark explained more.

"What does all this mean?" Lois asked in concern.

"I'm still trying to figure that out still. But…I don't feel safe about my mother staying at home while this is going on. Given both Smallville and Chamberlain are both. I asked her to go someplace safe." Clark replied.

"Where's she gonna stay?" Lois asked in concern.

"At a hotel near Metropolis. But meantime I have to get to the bottom of this. Lois? I hate to ask much of you but I need to go to Chamberlain again tomorrow and if it's not yet too much to ask…" Clark replied.

"I'll cover for you. Better yet, I already finished your previous article." Lois replied.

"Thanks." Clark replied.

Clark and Lois smiled at one another again and soon went back to printing the rest of the pictures.

(Later at Chamberlain…)

We come back to Chamberlain where Desjardin is.

Just finished her packing and she was just getting ready for bed unaware…she was being watched from the window…

Just as she turned out all her lights she soon heard a smashing noise downstairs Desjardin looked over where it came from startled and like what anyone would do when getting a dumb idea in a horror movie she decided to investigate.

She came down to see the front door…broken open she frowned and wondered how that happened she heard another door opening behind her and followed it to the living room door just opened.

Desjardin went down and found nothing she sighed and turned to find…the homeless behind her.

"Don't be afraid. It's me." The homeless girl replied.

"Who are you?" Desjardin asked in concern.

The homeless girl took her hood down to…Carrie.

"Hello Ms. Desjardin." Carrie replied.

"C-Carrie? My God Carrie is that you? Are you alright? Everyone's out looking for you…" Desjardin replied.

"You're leaving?" Carrie asked in concern.

"Oh…yeah I am. I thought you were dead?" Desjardin asked in concern.

"Yeah." Carrie replied.

"I'm sorry sweetie but after your mother passed away…it's just too much for me now." Desjardin replied.

"Yeah." Carrie replied.

"You're alive." Desjardin replied.

With no time for Carrie to reply, Desjardin just inches herself closer, grabbing Carrie in a tight hug and crying out loud from the guilt she felt from the months prior 'till now.

"Oh Carrie…I'm so sorry…I'm so sorry I wasn't careful." Desjardin replied.

Carrie nodded yes.

"Do you remember anything, Carrie?" Desjardin asked in concern.

Carrie over her face spoke volumes.

"Yes. Last thing I remember…my house was falling apart. I was holding my mother when she died." Carrie replied.

The further she pressed, the quicker her expressions changed and the more guilt ridden she became.

"She tried to kill me and I had to stop her. I never-never meant to but she really meant to kill me…I…" Carrie replied.

"Carrie, Carrie, look at me." Desjardin replied.

She looked back directly in her eyes with tears, just being reminded of her mother's death.

"I understand it's all hard to process. I can only imagine how you've felt all this time since those one year later, but-" Desjardin replied.

Carrie suddenly flinches as she sits down sitting off the back of the couch.

"Yes. One year later." Carrie replied.

This surprised Desjardin slightly. She really had no idea she was actually dead before and crawled out and away from a cemetery mere one year later.

"You mean you don"t know how long it's been?" Desjardin replied.

Carrie nodded no.

On the other side, Carrie was left reeling with a lot more questions than answers given everything Rita briefed her on. But at the end of it, it left Carrie with only one question in mind.

"And why did you become my teacher?" Carrie asked in concern.

"I knew you were going to ask that. See, Carrie…the entire U.S, the whole world knows what happened at prom that night. Many people thought it was an accident or that gangs burned it down…but some people actually know the truth. The ones who know don't know how you did it cause they don't believe in…whatever it was you did. I couldn't take chances without risking your life so I had to make it like you were my student." Desjardin explained.

"I…I hurt people…I hurt you…I killed everyone." Carrie replied, as she was saddened looking down.

"I couldn't leave you back there to suffer anymore." Desjardin replied.

"I saw them in the woods." Carrie replied.

"Who?" Desjardin asked in concern.

"Harry Trenant and Greg DeLois." Carrie replied.

"You saw Harry and Greg?" Desjardin asked in concern.

"Yeah. They saw me. Harry and Greg take me. I killed Harry and Greg." Carrie replied.

Desjardin's eyes widened.

"Oh my God. Are you okay?" Desjardin asked in concern.

"I'm fine." Carrie replied.

"Please, you did not kill me." Desjardin replied.

"Too." Carrie replied.

"Why would you say that?" Desjardin asked in concern.

Her answer was brutally honest.

"Cause I'm a monster." Carrie replied.

Carrie nearly broke down into tears again only to be caught in another hug as Desjardin shushed softly at her.

"Maybe…No, maybe what happened at prom was partly my fault too. You're not a monster." Desjardin replied.

"How…?" Carrie asked in concern.

"I should have kept an eye on Tina and her friends. Had guards at every door. Checked if we had outdoor security. Hell, I should have expelled them after that video they made of you. If I had…" Desjardin replied.

Carrie didn't need to interrupt but she felt the need to.

"Principal Morton wouldn't have let you." Carrie replied.

A slight groan passed through Desjardin's lips.

"Well, he should have…but still…" Desjardin replied.

"Ms. Desjardin. You don't need you to take responsibility for whatever I did. Sure, I was scared to trust you at first but you had nothing to do with…that bucket…it was…" Carrie replied.

"Chris…?" Desjardin asked in concern.

"PLEASE!" Carrie called.

Raising her voice and startling her former gym teacher, the tone of her voice made the living room, let alone the whole her house shake and rumble with one fell swoop. Carrie had to calm herself down and keep a cool head, for the last thing anyone wanted was for anyone else to notice her.

She had gotten enough publicity for once.

"D-D-Don't say her name…" Carrie replied.

Understanding where she was coming from, Desjardin nodded respectfully and after a minute of silence, one MORE question popped in Carrie's head.

"What's gonna happen to me now?" Carrie asked in concern.

For such a good question, it deserved an equally good response and Desjardin had something like that in mind.

"Forgive me for answering a question with a question but." Desjardin replied.

A moment of silence flooded the room again as Carrie stared at her former gym teacher as these words came out:

"How would you like to come live with me?" Desjardin asked in concern.

Carrie only raised her eyebrows when she heard that only to face down mere seconds later. Knowing her mother was gone and with nowhere to go, she had no idea what to say or even how to respond to that. Carrie just kept to herself as Desjardin looked at her in concern.

"Come on. Say something, Carrie…" Desjardin replied.

"Yes, I can, Ms. Desjardin." Carrie replied.

Suddenly there was a siren blaring.

Carrie and Desjardin turned around.

"What was that?" Carrie asked in concern.

"Stay here." Desjardin replied.

Desjardin ran and watched the window until the police and SWAT Team arrived at her home…

"Oh my God!" Desjardin replied, as her eyes widened.
