Dog Man is clearly aimed at a younger audience, so definitely not for an adult German fish. However, that doesn't make it bad. It was surprisingly charming and heart-warming. It also makes sense that it was childish due to the story supposedly written by the kids, Harold Beard and George Hutchins from Captain Underpants. Dog-Man is cute though.
Don't worry, the movie and book series the movie is based on, isn't actually written and directed by kids. They are still written and worked on by adults. If you remember Captain Underpants that DreamWorks did, this film has the same vibe, which is understandable considering that both Captain Underpants and Dog-Man are written by the same guy, Dav Pilkey. So, I wouldn't be surprised if his other books get turned into movies like Cat Kid and Super Diaper Baby, in the future, especially by DreamWorks.
Both Hayley and Steve grew up more with Captain Underpants. I, of course, did not, so have no nostalgia whatsoever with the books. The same could be said about Rogu, Roger and the other adult humans in the family.
I say if you have a sweet spot for Dog Man and are a die-hard fan, you should enjoy this movie just fine. The little kids will like it too, and even big kids. You might also find Dog Man cute if you are a massive fan of dogs. Oh, and also if you are a Dav Pilkey fan too. I also wouldn't be surprised if they make this into a TV show like with Captain Underpants. You two boys can get very imaginative with your stories, George and Harold!
Happy President's Day!
