Two days later, Ye Hai arrived at the Osborn Industrial Building to start work as an assistant to Dr. Connors.

"Ye, come here for a moment," Dr. Connors called, pointing to a girl beside him. "This lovely young lady is Gwen Stacy, one of my assistants. She is also a high school student and usually works here during her break. So, Ye, your task is to take over her responsibilities."

"Understood, Dr. Connors!"

Ye Hai felt somewhat disappointed. How much professional capability could a high school student have? It seemed likely that he would only be assigned trivial tasks.

Dr. Connors chuckled, "Ye, don't underestimate Gwen. She's incredibly talented and has unique insights into biology. She has helped me solve difficult problems in my research."

"Oh?"

Ye Hai immediately regarded the girl with greater respect. It seemed that, as the female lead in the original story, she indeed had exceptional qualities. He vaguely remembered that in the original storyline, Gwen had considerable authority in the lab and was someone Dr. Connors valued highly.

Ye Hai extended his hand and smiled, "Miss Stacy, I look forward to your guidance!"

Gwen, like the original character, had blonde hair and blue eyes, and wore a stylish women's trench coat that couldn't quite hide her alluring figure. Apart from her face, which appeared somewhat youthful, the rest of her exuded maturity and sensuality.

Gwen shook Ye Hai's hand and cheerfully said, "I've heard about you from Dr. Connors. Do a good job!"

Her tone sounded like that of a seasoned employee, which left Ye Hai both amused and confused. Dr. Connors also laughed, "Alright, you two have met. Gwen, please take Ye Hai around to get familiar with the environment and your work."

"Sure, Dr. Connors!"

After Dr. Connors left, Gwen sized up Ye Hai and asked, "Ye, are you Japanese?"

Ye Hai replied somewhat displeased, "No, I'm from China, but I'm of Chinese descent!"

Gwen apologized, "It seems the rumors are true—people from China don't like Japanese. Sorry about that. Let me show you the specimens instead!"

Gwen briskly led Ye Hai away with purpose, appearing quite decisive.

She seemed like a nerdy girl.

"Dr. Connors is a leading scientist in the field of herpetology. He is very dedicated to restoring his right arm, believing that merging animal genes could help him recover. However, many steps are required to achieve this, which is why he created a life tree!" Gwen pointed to a virtual projection, "This is the life tree here at Osborn Industries."

Before them was a complex three-dimensional virtual representation of a tree, with its branches connecting to various moving spiders, as if they were alive.

Ye Hai was astonished, observing the scenery before him. In his native world, virtual imaging technology was still under development, while here, it had already been utilized in advanced scientific research.

"Let me show you the bioreactor room."

"Sure!"

After touring some of Osborn's facilities, Gwen began introducing Ye Hai to his tasks, which consisted of checking the data from the cell fusion experiments.

The data was incredibly detailed and complex, requiring solid professional knowledge and plenty of patience to handle. Additionally, one needed sufficient inspiration to refine the data.

Ye Hai accessed his former memories and had a solid foundation, but when it came to inspiration and intuition, he felt he paled in comparison to the girl beside him.

Noticing Ye Hai's unease, Gwen said, "What's wrong? These are basic tasks. If you can't handle them, Dr. Connors will be disappointed!"

Being underestimated by a girl annoyed Ye Hai. He remembered that he still had 100 science points granted by the system, so he thought, "System, use 10 science points to activate the second-level brain region."

"Confirmed… Ding! Second-level brain region activated. Consumed 10 science points. Remaining: 90 science points."

In an instant, the nerve endings in Ye Hai's brain were stimulated, and his thinking speed increased significantly. His surroundings became much brighter, and he began to perceive many details that he had previously overlooked. He realized that he had now activated 20% of his brain. This state could be maintained for 24 hours.

The system had ten levels of brain activation, ranging from one to ten. The first level activated 10%, the second level activated 20%, and so on, up to the tenth level, which activated 100%. Activation required the expenditure of science points, with Level One consuming 1 point per 24 hours, Level Two consuming 10 points, Level Three consuming 100 points, and so forth. Achieving Level Ten required an astronomical number of science points.

Now that Ye Hai had activated his second-level brain region at 20%, he understood the significance of this. The most intelligent individuals on Earth have barely developed 5% of their brains, illustrating the incredible capacity of his current cognitive abilities.

Ye Hai felt almost photographic memory-like, with his thought processes akin to a supercomputer. Data and formulas that would typically appear complex in a computer seemed elementary to him, and he processed them in an instant, conducting calculations and producing various results continuously.

He rapidly flipped through the computer screen, able to resolve a page of data with just a glance. Eventually, he became increasingly faster; the work that would take Gwen a week to complete was finished by him in just over ten minutes.

"What did you say? You finished it?"

When Gwen heard that Ye Hai had completed the data organization, her expression darkened. Who did he think he was to treat this casually? Had he been just playing around when he flipped through everything so quickly?
