Ye Hai smiled and said, "Miss Stacy, I'm very good at organizing data; it's my specialty. You don't have to be jealous!"
"When have I ever been jealous?" Gwen frowned, "Are you just putting on an act? I can't believe you could possibly be that much faster than me!"
"If you don't believe me, feel free to test me!" Ye Hai said confidently.
"Of course!"
Gwen shot a glance at this show-off, intending to embarrass Ye Hai by presenting him with some very complex data and equations. To her surprise, Ye Hai responded seamlessly without a hitch. He even went on to point out the original data's flaws, and began optimizing it to yield better results and equations.
"This… this…" Gwen stared at Ye Hai as if he were a monster. It took her quite a while before she finally said in a defeated tone, "Mr. Ye, you truly are impressive. It seems I might be out of a job!"
"Out of a job?" Ye Hai was taken aback and chuckled, not expecting this somewhat serious girl to joke around. As Dr. Connor's strong assistant, even if Dr. Connor found Ye Hai more suitable for the position, it wouldn't mean she would lose her job; the studio had plenty of work to do.
"Miss Stacy, would you like me to issue you unemployment benefits?" Ye Hai joked.
Gwen shrugged nonchalantly, "If you have that kind of ability, I wouldn't mind sharing a meal with you!"
"Are you hinting that you want me to treat you? No problem! I'd be more than happy to treat a beautiful girl to dinner!"
Ye Hai grinned at Gwen, her sapphire-like eyes were deep as a pond and filled with a mysterious allure that drew him in.
He found himself somewhat interested in this beautiful western girl.
"Are you trying to pursue me?" Gwen smiled slightly, keenly pointing out Ye Hai's intention. She rolled her sapphire eyes and added, "I can give you a chance. Honestly, I'm very curious about you!"
The directness and generosity of westerners was unexpected for Ye Hai; he didn't anticipate such a quick agreement from her. It left him feeling somewhat out of place, triggering odd thoughts—perhaps this western girl had dated many times before.
"Sure! I'll do my best!" Ye Hai replied.
"With such outstanding abilities, you need to inform Dr. Connor immediately, so he's aware."
Gwen activated the internal communicator and briefed Dr. Connor about Ye Hai's situation. Dr. Connor arrived shortly, tested Ye Hai himself, and upon confirming Gwen's claims, he was overjoyed.
"Ye, I truly didn't expect you to have such talent! I believe letting you handle data is a waste of your abilities. Would you like to join me in researching interspecies genetics? Are you willing?"
Dr. Connor looked at Ye Hai with anticipation, his eagerness palpable. Ye Hai quickly agreed, "No problem, Dr. Connor!"
Ding! The host has gained the favor of the renowned scientist Dr. Connor and has entered the core experiment. The system rewards you with 100 scientific points.*
Upon hearing the system's voice, Ye Hai was pleasantly surprised and quickly asked, "System, what methods are available to gain scientific points?"
"There are many, mainly: One, complete tasks assigned by the system; Two, achieve results in science; Three, increase the host's reputation, like being recognized by a famous scientist now!"
"Reputation, huh?" Ye Hai pondered for a moment and said, "If I publish a paper in a renowned scientific journal, can I earn scientific points?"
"Yes, the system will reward points based on the paper's impact and depth."
Ye Hai's thinking was remarkably swift; the dialogue with the system seemed lengthy, but neither of them spent even a second on it.
Gwen felt a tinge of jealousy over Ye Hai suddenly being valued by Dr. Connor. The man who was only a few years older than her had outclassed her in intelligence, which irked her pride. This also sparked curiosity about him—or perhaps it ignited a subtle infatuation, a feeling of which she had not yet become aware.
"We have protein structures, ribosomal DNA, chromatography analysis, and transgenic testing. This is the X-ray imager—the only one in the world."
Dr. Connor led Ye Hai through multiple security checks into the core laboratory, explaining the lab's equipment as they walked.
"Human lineage identifier." Ye Hai pointed to a device, "I've seen this before!"
"The Ganali Device!" Dr. Connor glanced at it and explained, "The principle is simple. You load an antigen onto it, and it generates a reaction cloud that can cover the vicinity, potentially the entire city. Theoretically, you could cure all cases of polio in an entire city in just one afternoon."
"That's quite an impressive device," Ye Hai feigned indifference after examining it for a few moments. "But it could be misused if someone loaded a toxic substance into it. If that were to spread across the city, it would be a catastrophe."
Dr. Connor chuckled, "Don't worry, the operational core of this device is strictly guarded. Only a select few have the authority to activate it, so your concerns are minimal."
Behind a forced smile, Ye Hai rolled his eyes internally, thinking, *You're precisely the one I'm most worried about!*
In *The Amazing Spider-Man, Dr. Connor had used this device to release the lizard virus, covering an entire city and nearly transforming its population into lizards.
Seeing such a potentially dangerous piece of equipment worried Ye Hai, but he felt utterly powerless with his current capabilities.
