For what felt like the hundredth time today Emily stopped to stare at her official portrait. It had just arrived yesterday and each time Emily couldn't stop from admiring it. And how couldn't she? This wasn't just any portrait; no this was one that would forever hang on the walls with the rest of her family. The one that had the words Princess Emily Morningstar embedded in the frame. One that had her smiling as mere moments before Charlie had personally put the crown on her head calming it was her sisterly privilege. One that her dad had promised would be surrounded by dozens of smaller ones as time went by. "It took Dad and aunt Levi nearly a week to stop bickering long enough to agree on just the outfit." even know she could still hear them.
Lucifer held up a dozen outfits before focusing on a gown. "It must be a gown. Something stylish yet elegant."
"Well of course Luci" her left head said while mere moments later her gith replied "but only royal blue. It's the only color that we can agree matches my niece perfectly."
She was thankful they avoided white as she didn't want to wear Heaven's colors again. Those were the colors of the seraphim she was nearly two months ago, not the Morningstar she was today.
As always upon seeing her portrait her eyes focused on her head. Or more specifically the newest additions that had come up halfway through painting this. First was her new hair, her entire right side had completely turned black leaving it permanently two toned. Next were her new yellow and red eyes that matched her dad and sister and of course the pair of black horns that curled around her head. The fallen transformation Lucifer had called it.
It had started small at first, she'd gotten curious one night and attempted to transform to her true self but upon trying felt a burning pain. It didn't last long but her head did feel strange but after looking in the mirror she didn't see anything wrong. The next morning however she took one look in the mirror before screaming, seconds later her door was kicked open as Lucifer flew in ready to help but stopping when he saw her now red eyes.
"How? Why?" she asked switching between him and her mirror.
He simply walked up to her before gently placing a hand on her shoulder. "It's part of the falling process. Our bodies start to change to configure to the realm we're in. Hopefully yours won't be as painful as mine was."
Thankfully her hair was the next change and much like her eyes had been something she'd woken up to. Her family's response was as she expected as Charlie held back her laughter while her dad took pictures.
Her horns though, those had come hard and fast. One moment she was hanging out with Charlie and Vaggie helping them try to create a path for redemption then her head felt like it was bursting open. She fell to the ground clutching her head vaguely hearing Charlie call for their dad as her gold blood ran down her head. Sadely he couldn't anything but hold her as her horns violently came out. It was by far the longest half hour of her life and when she finally felt that they had stopped she ran a hand over her new horns. After that Charlie had helped teach her how to pull in her horns as having them out still freaked her out. Thankfully she' didn't grow a tail, although she was disappointed when she didn't feel any pain in her back to indicate her wings were growing back. Two days of waiting and hoping. Each day waking up and looking at her back hoping beyond hope to see bumps or bloody feathers. But nope, no wings, just my disappointed face looking back.
The final change came with her magic. Since being here she'd been unbale to use it or even feel it. Dad still has his magic after falling, even so I should still be able to use one way to know for sure.
In one final attempt she tried to focus use create a simple ball of golden angelic magic. Instead, she felt the heat as a fireball quickly formed before just as quickly being blown out.
"At least now it's official. I'm no longer a seraphim. I'm a fallen angel."
Hearing a squeak, she smiled seeing her newly created butler and friend Otty fly across the hall before scamping over her like he hadn't seen her in days when it's been five minutes. "I missed you to Otty" she said scratching his head and seeing is tiny wings flap in excitement. Similarly to Razzle and Dazzle he was part dragon but instead of also being a goat he was an otter. He'd been a surprise gift for her to celebrate the end of her transformation. One moment her dad was handing her a adorable otter dragon plushie then with a snap it came to life.
He was both her pet and butler, someone that could always be with her if Lucifer or Charlie were busy, though she personally believed it was her dad's way of encouraging her to sleeping in her own room again.
It wasn't every night of the week! Just most of the week. It's not my fault I can only seem to sleep when I'm cuddling someone. Of course, when she still had the very bad nightmare, she sought them out but those were thankfully becoming fewer and fewer.
She could even look at the embassy now and only feel the urge to vomit.
As for Heaven itself...
That is still a loooong ways away. She thought to herself shaking her head and giving Otter a little squeeze. "Especially after the vase incident."
It hurt to remember the event of a week ago. The event that to this day was causing her so much anxiety and guilt.
And it all started when she'd accidently destroyed an antique vase when testing out her new powers with Charlie. Since she couldn't use angelic powers anymore, she wanted to try some of Hell's magic. Naturally Charlie suggested something small and fun such as magical fireworks. Her response had been a ecstatic yes remembering when Lucifer had done it at LuLu World.
Now in hindsight they should have practiced outdoors but both were too excited and forgot safety and started shooting off fireworks in the main hall. Emily's first two attempts were nothing but smoke or at best a sparkler like drop that landed onto the floor.
"Don't give up Emily. You just need to focus. Oh, and maybe try wiggling your fingers, trust me it always helps."
Concentrating she took her advice and wiggled her fingers feeling her power start to gather before her fingertips began glowing. Seconds passed before a single a single shot ran out hitting the ceiling, then another and another. "I did it!"
"You did it!"
In her excitement she began jumping around forgetting to turn off her power. That was until a couple shots nearly hit her foot making her jump and scramble back knocking over an antique vase and shattering it. "I got it." she said bending down to pick up the pieces barely hearing Charlie's "Wait Emily don't" until a jagged piece cut her hand making her bleed. Emily fell back in pain while Charlie shook her head focusing her powers to a healing spell, she'd had her aunt teach her.
With a groan she remembered hearing Charlie call her name as she reached for her. Now she knew Charlie would never hurt her and was just trying to help her up. But in that moment, seeing her own blood and Charlie's still glowing hand reaching for her as Vaggie came around the corner with her angelic spear...wellllll... It triggered her, badly.
She'd blinked and Charlie was gone and in her place was Sera. Her heat nearly stopped and she had to mentally scream that Sera wasn't here and that she needed her medicine. Two-three pills...just need to calm down. Sera isn't here... Sera can't hurt me... I'm safe and with my family. Yet even thinking this she couldn't open her eyes.
Her trembling hand had just made contact with the container when Charlie said the worst possible thing. "I did warn you Emily."
Those words broke her.
The very next moment she was clutching Charlie's legs saying she was sorry, and she'd never do it again. Pleading for her to not take her wings.
Her memory gets rather blurry after that but according to Lucifer told her she didn't calm down for nearly four hours, four hours of her promising to be better as she clung to him in her room while Charlie broke down just outside the door.
Her own guilt growing she remembered faintly hearing their conversation.
"Maybe I should stay away for few days."
Lucifer stared at her feeling her guilt and fear as she eyed a sleeping Emily "Charlie you don't hav-"
"I know" she said softly looking at a trembling Emily. "Just when she wakes up tell her I'm sorry and that I love her and never meant to hurt her."
"Charlie it was an accident." but she didn't listen and gave Emily one final apologetic look before leaving.
That had been a week ago. A week of not hearing from her sister, of not seeing her sister, of her dad telling her "She just needs time"
But Emily was done waiting. She was going to go straight to Charlie's hotel and talk to her. "And I'm not leaving until we've worked it out. Otty did you inform dad where I'm going?"
He gave a little nod. "Good, I know he's been taking this bad and has relapsed into his ducky creation but I'm going to fix this."
Her determination high she let Otty drive her across Hell and toward the hotel entirely focused on reconciling with Charlie. Even when they passed the embassy Emily barely glanced at it as she was far to busy going over each and every thing she was going to tell Charlie.
The car had barely stopped when she ran up to the doors loudly knocking until she heard footsteps. Vaggie opened it and quickly stepped aside already knowing what was about to happen.
"Where?"
"Her room, she's barely come out." the words were barely out when Emily moved so fast up the stairs that for a moment Vaggie wondered if she had regained her wings.
Once at the door Emily's not wanting to waste any more time focused all the strength the could into her leg then kicked the door open. Ignoring the pain, she scanned the room until she saw her sister still in pajamas in the middle of the afternoon curled up under the blankets. Next to her were various books about psychology and emotional healing, most had sticky notes in them indicating she'd been obsessing over this. Emily didn't have Lucifer's ability to sense was people were feeling but she could practically feel what this room was giving off.
"Emily?"
She stood there for a moment, just staring at Charlie her mind trying to find the right words as she opened her closed her mouth repeatably. This seemed to worry Charlie as she started to get up looking worried. "Emily are you-
"I'm sorry!" Emily screamed tacking her sister onto the bed. Charlie groaned as in Emily's emotional state she sprouted her horns which she quickly learned where quite solid. "I'm so sorry! I know you'd never hurt me and I know you're not Sera but int that moment I..I..I I'm so sorry Charlie!"
Charlie tried to speak but from how tightly Emily was hugging her the only thing that came out was "ekkay"
Which Emily didn't hear as she kept going. "I've talked with dad and he's getting me a therapist. I promise I'm going to work through this, just please don't blame yourself."
"Emily"
"I know you feel guilty, but it wasn't your fault. Sera's the reason I have panic attacks, why I can't fully look up when I go outside without taken two or three pills."
"Emily" she said a bit louder.
"I just love you and dad so much and I don't want there to be any pain or awkwardness between us. You two have done so much for me and I..." whatever she wanted to say was quickly drowned at as she started crying just from getting to hug Charlie again.
Charlie held strong for all of five seconds before she too started crying as she'd also missed holding Emily. Soon enough the only sounds in the room where the two sisters hysterically sobbing one moment then trying and failing to speak, only to latch on and start crying again.
While nearby Vaggie as well as Razzle, Dazzle and Otty simply smiled knowing they'd probably be like this for a while. "Let's give them some privacy."
Vaggie had just reached the stairs when her phone rang and she saw it was Lucifer.
The moment she answered she heard how nervous he was. "heeeeyyy m-Vaggiee soooo are theeeyyyy?"
"They're already crying and hugging it out." he let out a massive sigh of relief. "Great! Don't like seeing my girls upset. I take it Emily's staying the night then?"
Vaggie rolled her eye as they both knew that they'd have to separate the two of them with a crowbar at this rate. "And probably the day after." she eventually said.
"So long as their happy. Now I'll let you get back to-" she heard the sound of the phone being dropped before his angry voice filled the room "YOU!"
Vaggie had no idea what was happening on the other side of the phone but for the rest of the night she kept her spear in one hand and was never more than ten seconds from Charlie' room.
Inside the room the girls having long since ran out of tears had started talking about what happened in Heaven. Yes they'd talked about it before but only the high points, neither had truly wanted or had the strength to fully talk about it. Even after Emily fully remembered everything she'd simply tried to forget and move on.
But right now, sitting in Charlie's lap as she put her hair in a new style she felt ready to at least try.
"She always told me I had to do what was right. To be what Heaven nedded me to be even if it sometimes felt impossible."
"And so when you found out about the exterminations you wanted answers?"
"Yeah, but they didn't want to answer them. Didn't want to even once consider that what the'd done was wrong and smiply keep it hidden." seeing her trembling Charlie offered her tail which Emily happily began squeezing. "They weren't sorry for what they'd done. No, they were just afraid that I was going to expose them. They'd always told me honesty is always the best and yet they wanted me to lie and keep their secret. Told me if I stopped then Adam would stop the exterminations for few years just to keep me quiet."
For moment Charlei's hands stopped as she registered this. If she had said agreed to stay silent then...
A few seconds later she shook her head knowing if they'd lie to start it they'd lie to postpone it "Dad always said Adam would openly joke about when they used to meet. I doubt he would have kept his word, even if he did it would have just started up sooner or later. Personally, I think you made the right choice Emily."
"Thank you, Charlie." taking a few deep breaths she calmed down enough to talk about the most painful part. "Next thing I know Lute is punching me and threating to cut my wings off with her sword. Sera said I was her responsibility and..."
"Emily, you don't have to-"
"No! I need to say it. I have to say it otherwise I'll never move past it." yet after saying it she had to pry her hand from her medicine bottle. "Sera held me down, said she had warned me, then she-
"Made the biggest mistake of my entire existence." Eimy's head shot to the corner where a golden portal had opened. They're stood Sera, her clothes signed, blood dripping down one arm and a white eyepatch across her right eye.
Seeing her was bad enough, but the genuine smile she had on her face was by far the scariest thing about her. "But don't worry Emily I've come to my senses and am here to bring you home."
Her body shaking, she couldn't scream but just clutched Charlie's tail which thankfully got her to wrap her arms around her protectively as she transformed. "My sister is home." Charlie growled out.
Sera turned her head only barely acknowledging Charlie. "Yes, you and your father have treated her well. More so than I'd ever hoped he would and for that I am forever grateful. In fact, yes, I do believe you've earned a place in Heaven. Perhaps even taking up your father's old mantle. Yes, that's perfect, this way you two will always be together."
Before anyone could speak, they felt everything shake as Lucifer's rage filled voice and flaming form shot across the city. "I had hoped to delay him longer." she then turned to the girls and waved her hand opening a portal beneath them. One moment they were in Charlie's room then they found themselves in a room that to Charlie looked both elegant and sparse. "Where are we?" though as she got up, she saw the open window and the endless clouds and light as well as people happily flying in the distance. "We're in Heaven!?"
But didn't hear her. No, she was too busy looking at the one bit of furniture that had become the newest addition to Sera's room. One that caused her to immediately shake in pure fear before vomiting when she saw it. Rushing to her sister's side she followed her gaze to the large glass case where six wings floated suspended in magic.
Sera emerged a moment later closing the portal. "Welcome home girls."
For some reason chapters didn't show up so I had to delete and repost them. Sorry for any inconvenience.
