Chapter 1
As I walked to my job at the bookstore, rereading one of my favorite books, my shoulder-length blond hair blew in the wind. I start spacing out looking back on my life so far. I am Faye, Faye Moxie Parker. I'm a 23-year-old orphan who in the past bounced from foster home to foster home.
When I grew up I worked in a bookstore that I loved and that I visited throughout my life, which was owned by my boss and only friend, Harry.
I met Harry while reading in his bookstore, I mostly visited whenever I had time, which was almost every day. He is 65 years old and is like a grandfather I never had. He has trouble getting around and cleaning, so sometimes I would help him secretly with small things such as dusting selves, putting books back, or tucking most of the chairs in. He saw how much I loved and took care of the books I was reading.
Eventually, Harry offered me a job when I turned 16 after catching me dusting and stacking shelves and we have been friends ever since. I've never had many friends, but Harry is the best one I've ever had!
During my childhood, I had to move from one foster family to another and unfortunately, I never felt like I fit in with any of them. No matter how hard I tried, I could never seem to connect with them.
Every time I started to settle in and feel comfortable, I was sent back to the orphanage and soon given to another foster family. The families would always give reasons like "We have decided that we want to have our baby", "Our daughter/son is feeling jealous and we don't think this arrangement is working out" or "We have changed our minds and we would like to have a younger child or a boy instead."
Throughout my time in the foster care system, I slowly came to accept the fact that I would never have a real family of my own after the 16th foster home and started taking care of myself at the age of 10.
Though I was bouncing through foster homes, I learned to keep busy with different activities, such as reading and trying out all different kinds of new hobbies. Some of my favorite hobbies include cooking, playing video games, and tinkering with things. Taking things apart and putting them back together has become one of my favorite pastimes.
I first started by taking apart my lead pencils and putting them back together then I started with bigger things, such as an old broken toaster that I found in the storage of the orphanage. I ended up fixing it as it turned out there was a spring missing and one of the other springs needed to be greased. I love taking stuff apart and putting it back together again, it's a great feeling of accomplishment and a great way to waste time!
It is very relaxing reading different books in my free time, whether at work or home. I enjoy a variety of genres, including graphic novels, fantasy, and manuals covering various topics such as cars and computers and many others.
I am often seen with my head in a book, playing video games online, or spending time with my cat at home and Harry at the bookstore.
I often find myself daydreaming or spacing out, which is probably why I didn't notice the car coming towards me. All I heard were the screeching of brakes, honking, and then the screams of people around me as everything slowly faded into darkness.
At that moment, I realized that no one would miss me except for my cat, Ivy, and my friend Harry. As I slipped into darkness, my two only thoughts were that Harry would take care of Ivy for me, and I knew I was going to be late.
As I opened my eyes, I saw a large bright room with a person covered in a cloak, sitting in an armchair. As I got closer, the individual pulled down their cloak. It was a man with a nice stubble.
He sat there smiling at me. A cluster of thoughts came all at once, Where am I? Who is this guy? And is he wearing Jordan's? Dang, they're nice, as I nodded to myself.
The man laughed as if he knew what I was thinking. "Hello little one, Yes, I know what you are thinking, I can hear your thoughts," said the man. "And well yes, these are Jordan, one of my favorite pairs! I quite enjoy what footwear humans have made in their lifetime," he says grinning at me.
I stared at him in disbelief, "and to answer your question you are in limbo, not yet in heaven or hell. I am the guardian of limbo, my name is Liam." said the man. "I am sorry about your death, by the way, it was truly an accident, one of the angels made an error," he said again, looking to the side sternly, his glaze hardening as if he was looking at someone I could not see.
Wait, I thought to myself. "I died from an error?!" I exclaimed in shock, finally managing to find my voice. "What do you mean by an error?" I asked again.
"Well, one of the angels made a mistake with the traffic lights, my little one. You weren't supposed to die at that particular moment, only that man that was walking next to you was supposed to." he said with a grimace turning his head and looking back at me, "This is why I have come up with two choices to make it up to you!" he said, suddenly smiling.
"Option number one, I could send you back in time to your original body at any age-."
"I have a question," I interrupted, feeling a little excited. Liam nodded his head for me to continue.
"Is it possible for me to change certain things, like having parents or a sibling?" I bounced up and down on my heels getting more excited, imagining the possibility of having someone in my life to come home to besides, Ivy. Someone to share hugs, food, laughter, and conversations. My home was usually so quiet, with only the occasional purr or meow from Ivy or me playing video games or on small projects to break the silence.
"I'm afraid not, I'm sorry," he says, shaking his head sadly. I feel my excitement slowly fading. "Well, at least if I go back, I can see my cat and Harry again," I say out loud trying to keep myself optimistic.
"Which brings me to your second option, I can transport you to one of four of my choosing, of what do you humans call it again? Fandoms," he says, looking strangely excited. "Yes! That's the word!"
Well, hopefully, it can't be that bad.
As I considered my options carefully, I asked, "What are the four fandoms I have to choose from?"
He looked beyond excited and happy at this point that I had decided to go with or think about the second option and said, "Choice one is Hunger Games it could be any of them such as the books or the movie, but you must be a volunteer."
Definitely not picking that one, I would never survive as a volunteer. I thought to myself. "What is the next one?" I asked him.
"Well," he started seeming to have heard my thoughts already about the first one, looking glum. "The second choice would be Demon Slayer, you could be a demon, demon slayer, or, a Hashira." Great, another fandom where it's kill or get killed. Are they all going to be like that? I thought to myself shaking my head.
"The third choice would be an American horror story, you could choose any season", he continued ignoring my inner monologue.
As soon as I heard that choice, I instantly started to ramble in my head thinking, Oh heck no! I've never most of watched that show, but I've heard about it from Harry! Harry was obsessed with that show! He told me that the show is death after death! Like, I heard there is barely a chance of survival kind of show, especially in the later seasons. I only watched the first episode with Harry because he begged me to and, even in that one episode I watched, more than 3 people died! I might have to take my chances with Hunger Games if the last option is worse! Please let the last one be better than the others, please! I pleaded and prayed in my head.
Liam decided to ignore my thoughts as he continued, "Last, but not least would be, Twilight. You have the option to be Bella's sibling or a random person in this universe. Keep in mind, if you choose to be her sibling you will have to stick to the story or as close as you can, but if you choose the other option you can do almost anything with one restriction at the start, such as you must wait until she arrives at forks before talking to the other characters, you may observe them, but you cannot talk to them unless they talk to you first."
