Reimu Hakurei
Backstory:
Reimu Hakurei is the Shrine Maiden of the Hakurei Shrine and the main protagonist of the Touhou series alongside her friend, Marisa Kirisame. She is exceptionally talented and gifted, but her laziness makes her hate training.
Despite that, she resolves incidents anyway, and she's friendly and gets along with everyone, including youkai. This passive attitude towards monsters doesn't sit well with most of the humans in Gensokyo, which means her shrine doesn't get many visitors or donations.
Powers and Abilities:
Superhuman Physical Characteristics,
Flight,
Danmaku (Made up of ofuda, sealing needles, and spirit energy orbs; much of which homes in on targets),
Spirit Manipulation,
Magic,
Extrasensory Perception (Magic users are sensitive to changes in temperament),
Acausality (Types 1 & 4; Unaffected by Keine erasing the human village from history. Exists within the Hakurei Barrier, which created a world with a different flow of time and different physical laws. Could act normally within Eientei, which exists outside of time and causality),
Accelerated Development & Reactive Evolution (Passive, Abilities, Statistics; Despite being incapable of gaining any lasting benefits from training, Reimu is said to possess Heaven-granted genius that allows her to master skills like martial arts or black magic, even with a complete lack of knowledge, and is stated to possess limitless innate talent. Reimu has consistently improved herself in several ways over the years, such as initially requiring time-consuming rituals to summon gods before being able to summon them with just a thought, needing to rely on her turtle, Genji, in order to fly, before learning how to do so on her own, or being affected by the sleep-inducing effects of dream souls before later taking hits from them without issue. Despite Fantasy Nature being the only spell card using a technique she knows from birth, she has gained dozens of other powers and spell cards over the years. Gradually grew to resist Miyoi's ability to erase memories and create illusions that leave their victims paralyzed with fear despite being initially affected, becoming the only one in Gensokyo to resist these techniques. Gained the ability to see in dark locations and become unaffected by night blindness despite not being able to do so before. Was affected by Reisen's ability to control wavelengths during the Imperishable Night incident, but was later noted to have possessed wavelengths that were more difficult to manipulate. Was shown to be unable to physically interact with dream selves when first encountering Sumireko's dream self, but could do so against the dream selves she encountered in the Dream World not long after. Despite fearing her being affected by Shion's full power aura, she adapted to resist it within a matter of seconds, and additionally kept up with her even after she began releasing more auras. Initially considered far too weak to face Mima, but could grow to surpass her in power in a short period of time. Could adapt to Sakuya Izayoi's time manipulation over the course of their initial fight, with Reimu being completely unaffected in the case of her victory),
Empowerment & Power Modification (When she adapted to Shion's negative aura, Reimu was said to have been drawing near-infinite power from her aura),
Statistics Amplification (Can use Spell Power to increase the power of her spell cards),
Acrobatics,
Energy Projection,
Martial Arts (Stated to be trained in martial arts),
Soul Manipulation (She is said to have the power to manipulate the spirits of living things, and she can purify spirits),
Non-Physical Interaction (Can harm Phantoms and Evil Spirits with her regular attacks, as well as divine beings like Junko),
Conceptual Manipulation,
Limited Creation (Type 1; Can control boundaries, a technique that Okina directly compared to Yukari's boundary manipulation. The process of creating a spell card requires giving it a 'name' to define its form and power, not unlike how the gods gave 'names' to everything at the beginning of reality to give them form from nothingness, albeit on a much smaller scale),
Further Power Modification (Spell card users are capable of changing the traits of any attack or ability by naming it, being able to turn ordinarily lethal attacks into nonlethal ones, or severely restricting the potency of an ability by 'gameifying' it),
Forcefield Creation (Specializes in the creation of barriers, using them both offensively and defensively. She passively creates a barrier around her when she's stunned),
Sealing (Sealed away Mima. Her spell cards Dream Sign "Evil-Sealing Circle" and Fantasy Seal are designed for sealing their targets),
Aura,
Space-Time Manipulation (She can turn space inside out, open dimensional rifts and barriers, and prevent enemies from approaching her while making projectiles miss her automatically. All spell card users are shown to possess magic circles, which have the properties of slowing anything within their radius down to a near stop. Via the ability to name their spell cards, spell card users are able to distinguish things within space and time),
Teleportation (Can do so via skill cards like Dimensional Rift and Demon Sealing Dimensional Rift, and she can even teleport without realizing it),
Can create doubles of herself,
Intangibility & Beyond-Dimensional Existence (Spatial & Type 1; By floating above everything that exists, she becomes effectively untouchable, so most attacks simply pass through where she appears to be harmlessly),
Physics Manipulation, Probability Manipulation and Fate Manipulation (By using the "memory" within all things, she can alter the probability of something happening, even if it goes against the laws of physics, as the "memory" layer of the world exists beyond the mental one, which in turn exists beyond the physical one, which is controlled by the laws of physics),
Summoning (Can summon gods to inhabit her body, granting her access to their powers),
Perception Manipulation (Her spell card Divine Spirit "Fantasy Seal -Blink-" can cause people to see multiple copies of herself),
Dimensional Travel (Brought her physical body to Hell. Implied to have entered the Land of the Back Door unassisted),
Holy Manipulation (As a shrine maiden, she can perform exorcisms and blessings),
Light Manipulation (Her Fantasy Seal is described as being made up of light bullets),
Divination,
Empathic Manipulation (Capable of performing accurate fortune telling, which requires manipulating emotions),
Passive Power Nullification (4D; Can destroy magical seals and nullified the barrier separating Gensokyo and the Netherworld. This ability is seemingly passive, as Reimu believed there simply never was a barrier blocking the entrance to the Netherworld to begin with, implying it was nullified before she was even aware it existed. This was noted to have thinned the barrier between worlds, making travel between the two possible, with the Netherworld having formerly been treated as an Otherworld and therefore a different space-time. Reimu's ofuda can nullify enemy projectiles, revert tsukumogami back to their original forms, or prevent objects from turning into tsukumogami entirely),
Portal Creation,
BFR (She can create gaps which act as portals that allow her to teleport freely. In Urban Legend in Limbo, her last word can banish her opponent inside one of these gaps),
Breaking the Fourth Wall (Aware that she is playing the demo version of Embodiment of Scarlet Devil and directly speaks to the player in the manual of Story of Eastern Wonderland),
Limited Mind Manipulation (Her ofuda do large amounts of mental damage,)
Weather Manipulation (Can control the boundary between seasons),
Astral Projection (Can act independently even when her soul is separated from her body),
Vibration Manipulation (All characters in Immaterial and Missing Power are capable of generating shockwaves to push their opponent back),
Paralysis Inducement (Divine Arts "Demon Binding Circle takes one's body's freedom of movement away),
Instinctive Reaction (Can attack even when completely unconscious),
Platform Creation (Can create footholds in midair with Floating Wall Jump),
Weapon Control (Can make her gohei spin on its own as an attack),
Subjective Reality (Can form barriers solely from her willpower),
Status Effect Inducement (Can stun opponents with Cautionary Border),
Afterimage Creation (Can create afterimages while flying),
Hammerspace (Can store giant Yin-Yang orbs "who-the-heck-knows-where"),
Enhanced Senses (Saw Kasen's non-existent true form. Was able to see through an illusory moon and a tanuki's illusory disguise. Can see in dark locations easily, and is not affected by night blindness),
Transmutation (Can turn enemy projectiles into water by grazing them),
Regeneration Negation (Mid-Godly; Reimu was able to kill the Fortune-teller after he turned into a youkai merely by cleaving his skull, despite the fact that youkai are made of Spirit and can recover from complete bodily destruction),
Limited Pain Manipulation (Fujiwara no Mokou, who has adapted to living her life in constant agony, had to give up while fighting her due to the pain caused by her attacks),
Limited Deconstruction (Her Yin-Yang Orb instantly disintegrates youkai on contact),
Water and Organic Absorption,
Self-Healing (Can absorb water to heal herself, and can do the same with oil), likely many more (Stated to possess "various mysterious powers" that she has never showcased or mentioned),
Resistance to Madness Manipulation (Was unaffected by the true Moon, which can drive humans insane and kill them if they look at it),
Space-Time Manipulation,
Durability Negation,
Power Nullification,
Petrification,
Statistics Reduction (Unaffected by the effects of Keine's spell card Reincarnation "Ichijou Returning Bridge", which is stated to reverse time. Unaffected by the magic circles possessed by characters like Flandre and Urumi, which passively slow things down to a crawl. Via scaling to ability cards, these magic circles should also possess the ability to destroy anything in their radius like Flandre's ability to destroy anything, including energy-based projectile attacks, as well as Urumi's ability to cause things nearby to turn to stone and lose speed upon being freed),
Time Stop (Can move inside Eientei unrestricted despite it having a frozen flow of time. During her initial fight with Sakuya Izayoi, Reimu was stated to have been completely unaffected by her time stop after winning),
Probability Manipulation (Managed to defeat Shion, whose misfortune aura is strong enough to cause her opponents to instantly lose),
Status Effect Inducement,
Illusion Creation,
Paralysis Inducement, & Fear Manipulation (Could snap herself out of a drunken and half-asleep state at a moment's notice, immediately recognizing that she was stuck in an illusion after the fact. Said illusions are able to leave one's body paralyzed with fear),
Memory Manipulation (Despite Miyoi passively erasing the memories of anyone she encounters, Reimu could still remember Miyoi's appearance, their previous conversation, and it's said that Reimu is the only one in Gensokyo unaffected by her powers),
Poison Manipulation (Unaffected by Remilia's scarlet mist, which sickens humans. Can withstand the effects of the Forest of Magic, which is filled with poisonous spores in the air. Can survive in Former Hell, where the air is more toxic than that of a geyser emitting poisonous air),
Mind Manipulation, Empathic Manipulation (Unaffected by being near phantoms, which can passively change the emotions or slowly destroy the minds of anybody they come near),
Sleep Manipulation,
BFR,
Soul Manipulation (Can withstand getting hit by dream souls in Doremy's Antinomy of Common Flowers route, which can instantly put a person to sleep and send their soul to the Dream World),
Transmutation,
Purification (Can survive unscathed in Hell, which slowly crystalizes and purifies one's soul),
Transformation (Unaffected by the Forest of Magic, which has the power to change the nature of anything living there),
Extreme Heat (Fought Utsuho in the Remains of Blazing Hell, which is so hot that the things that burn there don't even leave ashes behind),
Perception Manipulation (Unaffected by the Forest of Magic, which is filled with mushrooms that cause hallucinations in whoever comes near them),
Power Mimicry (Reimu's techniques are unique to her, and cannot be copied or used as reference),
Death Manipulation (Can survive being near Yuyuko, whose mere touch can cause death and who passively causes all living things near her to die),
Soul Absorption (Survived Tenshi absorbing the souls of all living things across Gensokyo and various Otherworlds such as the Netherworld),
Limited Resistance to Possession (Can recognize if she is being possessed, and can temporarily break free of its effects, though she can only do so for a very short amount of time),
Precognition and Immortality (Type 5) with the Ultramarine Orb Elixir (Removes the user's impurity of death and allows them to see the immediate future by experiencing it, and then reversing time),
Weaknesses: Reimu is incredibly lazy and thus hasn't reached her true potential, instead of relying on her sheer talent. She hasn't mastered the ability to summon gods yet, for example. Her ofuda are weaker against oblivious people, and are less effective in wind and rain.
Song: Maiden's Magi
Reimu Hakurei went through the familiar motions, effortlessly managing her tranquil shrine. Though visitors were scarce, she fulfilled her duties diligently, finding solace in the tranquility of her daily routine. If left with too much idle time, she knew boredom would be much more unbearable.
A mystical breeze blew through the air, gently lifting and scattering cherry blossom leaves. Reimu Hakurei paused her sweeping, sensing a surge of magical energy within the shrine's domain. She exhaled, knowing that another entity had disturbed the tranquility of her sacred space.
"Another soul interferes with my shrine."
With practiced ease, she drew forth a few needles from her pouch and threw them in the direction of the unseen presence, her eyes never leaving the sweeping motion. A sharp yelp echoed, signaling that the needles had hit their mark.
Reimu pivoted towards the invisible presence, her eyes narrowing as a fourteen-year-old girl manifested, donning a pink and white dress. Unfamiliar with Madoka Kaname's avatar, the miko let out a frustrated sigh.
"Why can't you gods leave my shrine alone? Is it too much to ask for the tranquility and simplicity of a shrine maiden's existence? Regardless of your purpose, we'll inevitably clash, and I'll emerge victorious, as I always do."
"Please, wait! I'm not what you think I am!"
Madoka implored, but the desperate plea fell on deaf ears. As a shrine maiden, Reimu had grown accustomed to this scenario, anticipating yet another altercation. With practiced ease, she summoned a flurry of paper talismans, launching them at the young Magi. She spun her staff to try and block them, but some got through. As the talismans adhered to Madoka's body, they inflicted mental damage, causing her to cry out in pain. Desperate to escape, she took flight, seeking to outmaneuver and outpace the ongoing assault.
With a mixture of reluctance and necessity, Madoka responded by releasing a fanning of multiple pink arrows, which spread outward in an arc. Reimu dodged the barrage with calculated grace, seamlessly evading the projectile attack. In response, Reimu unleashed yin-yang bombs towards the young Magi. Undeterred, Madoka fired a massive energy arrow that overpowered the bombs, propelling them aside. Anticipating the counterattack, Reimu crafted a protective barrier around herself, manipulating space to allow the arrow to move around her body rather than at it.
Reimu hurled a barrage of needles at Madoka, but the young Magi skillfully intervened, firing a volley of Starlight Arrows that pierced through the projectiles. Reacting swiftly, Reimu manipulated Madoka's perception, creating the illusion of multiple Reimus surrounding her from all angles. This visual trickery tricked Madoka into believing she was surrounded by a multitude of opponents, leading her to brace for simultaneous attacks from every direction.
As Madoka readied her bow, fired the arrow high into the sky, it pierced through layers of clouds and cleared them away with a pink sigil, before cascading back down in a torrent of pink arrows. The projectiles quickly eliminated almost all of the Reimu doppelgängers, transforming into numerous Madokas that transported the shrine maidens to various points in time and space, immersing them in individual battles that spanned across centuries past and future alike.
As Madoka crafted a formidable legion of arrows aimed at Reimu, she unleashed a heavy barrage that seemed impossible to evade. However, instead of dodging, Reimu boldly flew directly into the assault. Miraculously, the arrows moved away from her path, as if guided by some inexplicable good fortune. Closing the distance, she reached out to launch a physical attack but found herself engulfed by Madoka's being. Reimu was now inside the young Magi, experiencing a false paradise intended to pacify her with an idealized, utopian fantasy.
However, Reimu possessed an innate resistance to mind games and illusions, activating her spell card with a confident declaration:
"Dream Sign: Duplex Barrier."
Alarmed by the anomalies occurring outside her, Madoka observed the shifting space around her. The very fabric of reality began to warp, with non-euclidean geometry reshaping the environment. Even her hand seemed to blur its boundaries before blending into the amorphous backdrop.
As Reimu emerged from the Magi, she wielded a yin-yang orb, striking a blow to Madoka's forehead, drawing blood. Crying out in pain, Madoka attempted to wield her bow, but it was powerless, behaving like a flimsy noodle in the warped reality. With a forceful push, Madoka tried to repel Reimu, only to discover that the shrine maiden was a mere body double, which exploded into a flurry of talismans, further tormenting the Magi's mind and body.
Emboldened by the advantage, Reimu Hakurei unleashed a relentless spiritual assault on the Magi. She executed a simple yet swift somersault kick, followed by a volley of sealing needles, pinning Madoka down. Reimu then manifested a protective barrier and propelled herself off it, slamming it into Madoka with great force. Without missing a beat, Reimu encircled the young girl in a tight sphere of talismans, followed instantly by a strategic kick, launching a yin-yang orb into the contained space. The orb ricocheted relentlessly, striking Madoka multiple times within the confined sphere. Reimu, seizing the opportunity to end the conflict, declared one of her signature techniques,
"Divine Spirit: Fantasy Seal."
Brilliant light bullets surged forth, homing in on Madoka with uncanny precision. Utilizing the power of fantasy, Reimu sealed away the young girl's abilities, leading to her literal disintegration into dust, preventing any possibility of recovery.
Reimu, exuding a sense of accomplishment after the victory, spun her gohei as a pink arrow pierced out from her forehead, fired from another avatar of Madoka Kaname. However, the impact was averted as the shrine maiden had consumed the Ultramarine Orb Elixir away from Madoka's line of sight. In a split second, she perceived a glimpse of the immediate future, and just as the arrow was about to reach her, time rewound to a moment before her impending doom. Reacting swiftly, Reimu dodged the killing shot, narrowly averting the catastrophe. As Reimu faced off against the avatar of Madoka, she acknowledged,
"You're no ordinary magical girl. Fantasy Nature."
Reacting swiftly, she invoked her Fantasy Nature, detaching herself from the constraints of reality as she ascended to a higher plane, transforming into a gargantuan entity that transcended the boundaries of space. Her presence rivaled Madoka's ultimate form, making the observable universe appear as minuscule as the Magi's skirt in comparison to the vastness of cosmic proportions. Madoka's voice echoed with a serene detachment as she observed the formidable clash, acknowledging the resilience and determination of her adversary.
"Truly amazing. I never expected a magical girl to match my scale of being beyond existence. However, considering the current circumstances, I suppose you don't have any intention of yielding quietly."
Reimu responded with a matter-of-fact tone, reflecting on her past experiences in godly battles.
"I do this all the time."
In her next move, she summoned a big bang below her feet, creating a universe within the protective confines of a barrier. The spectacle unfolding served as an arena for her and Madoka as the surrounding universes watched their epic cosmic struggle.
The clash between the unbound shrine maiden and the formless, conceptual being demonstrated an array of extraordinary abilities. They explored the realms of biological manipulation, mind and soul manipulation, played with the very fabric of cause and effect, wielded control over space and time, manipulated elements at a fundamental level, and exercised mastery over matter and subatomic phenomena. This cosmic confrontation revealed boundless powers, with each display of reality manipulation providing a captivating, visually stunning display of their immense abilities without being able of causing any direct, tangible damage.
"I must concede, you have proven to be quite formidable in reaching this far and matching my abilities blow for blow. However, there is one crucial factor you have yet to comprehend. I've allowed this battle to persist for as long as it has because I have the ability to do so. However, by persisting in this battle, you endanger my ultimate goal of achieving peace. Thus, I have no choice but to respond..."
Madoka's declaration echoed forth as she drew back her bow, preparing a final powerful attack, a sigil materializing around her presence. In a desperate attempt to defend herself, Reimu attempted to erect a protective barrier to shield herself from any targeted reality-warping effects. However, Madoka's intent was not to aim solely at her. The young Magi unleashed the Shooting Star technique, causing an inexplicable phenomenon: reality itself was momentarily eradicated by the onslaught of an infinite number of arrows, which pierced through the multiverse. Then, in a display of reality-warping abilities, Madoka's will caused existence to be reforged, restoring it into existence.
The consequence of Madoka's reality-warping abilities became evident as the multiverse was reconstructed. Gensokyo, the realm inhabited by various youkai, the Lunarian society on the moon, and even the Hakurei shrine vanished without trace. Consequently, Reimu Hakurei and all entities associated with her ceased to exist. A different timeline unfolded, where the battles fought by the magical girls and the numerous threats that regularly threatened Earth never came to pass. Despite the sacrifice of a few heroic figures, there was a net increase in Earth's safety, much to Madoka Kaname's resignation.
Strength: This was a nail biter of two of the most powerful magical girls in fiction, requiring looking for the devil in the details. Both girls are capable of infinite power. In a similar logic to Dark Souls vs Skyrim, Reimu had the power to defeat Shinki, who created a universe of infinite size. But Ultimate Madoka's influence was able to spread across the entire infinte multiverse to wipe out the concept of witches everywhere.
Speed: Madoka is able to warp reality across infinite universes, implying infinite attack speed, while Reimu can race across an infinite realm from one end to the other in an instant.
Skill: Reimu definetely has more skill, being more experienced in combat and martial skill.
Experience: Reimu is also older, and faced a wider array of foes of yokais and gods, compared to Madoka facing the stuff she has.
Powers: While both are equally adept in terms of reality warping, capable of doing most of the same things when push comes to shove, even Reimu lacks some of Ultimate Madoka's advantages. Being able to observe every possible future gives her superior precognition while Reimu requires a ritual or dying, being omnipresent in every moment of space and time meant she'd always beat Reimu's infinite speed, and while Hakurei is capable of beating someone who created an infinite sized universe, Madoka is the only one to outright destroy the multiverse with old rules so that she could replace them with new rules, warping reality on a much grander scale.
The winner is Madoka Kaname.
