Prolog: Sun And Moon
Muzan Kibutsuji sat on his throne. Rumors about a family a woman and her father who lived on the snowy mountains had reached the demon king. Muzan didn't care much about the tiny human family but according to the rumors the father wore a pair of certain earrings, that made Muzan recall trauma from his past so he wanted the family dead for no other reason than those earrings. Muzan called upon his most powerful and loyal subject, his Uppermoon One Kokushibo. Kokushibo had arrived and bowed before his master. 'Head to mount kumotori and slay the family living there! ' commanded Muzan. ' I Shall '
answered Kokushibo and then he left to prepare for his mission.
Kokushibo was standing in front of a mirror. In order to avoid drawing in attention and suspicion to himself Kokushibo had to disguise and hide his demon from wich was easy for him. Like all demons Kokushibo can control his body on the cellular level giving him control over his appearance.
He hid his four extra eyes along with his pale gray skin and his sharp claws and fangs. When he was done he examined his reflection and was pleased when he saw his human form looking back, his disguise was perfect!. He now had two purple eyes along with fair white skin and long spikey and dark black to red hair that reached his waist with long bangs, he liked to keep his hair in a Ponytail, he was wearing his favorite clothing wich was a white kimono and a purple haori with black beehive patterns along with black hakama pants, both the haori and kimono were tied with a white cloth...his most unique and distinct feature were the two red scars or birth marks on his face, one was on his forehand that extended down to his cheek and the other on his neck that extended from his lower jaw all the way down to his collar bone and even though these marks looked hideoue his face was still handsome. Kokushibo then went to grab his old Nichirin katana from it's display stand. Kokushibo had't used his old Nichirin blade in centuries but he still held on to it for nostalgia. It was a deep dark purple katana like the night sky with the kanji (kill/destroy all demons) engraved on it along with a gold handle and a black and gold tsuba or guard. He named his sword ( Kyokokukamusari) the hallow cry of the godless.
Kokushibo put the katana in it's black and gold saya or sheath. The UPPERMOON made sure to hide his sword under his purple and black haori the last thing he wanted was to draw in the attention of the police, this is the taisho era and swords have been banned since the meiji era forty years ago he could not be seen walking with a sword!. Now that he was prepared the demon headed out on his mission. Kokushibo hid from the sun during the day and traveled at night, after a long journey. Kokushibo finally arrived at his destination MT.KUMOTORI. Kokushibo began ascending the mountain.
Kokushibo liked MT.KUMOTORI it was cloudy and full of large trees that provided shade, this made it safe for him to come outside in the day from time to time, that is what he thought until he remembered what he came here to do.
Once Kokushibo reached the top of the mountain he found a small shack inside the forest wich for some reason looked very familiar to him...has he been here before? Kokushibo knocked on the door.
'Who goes there?! ' spoke a kind voice
'May i...come inside? i'm traveling by and it's dangerous here at night ' Kokushibo asked.
The door swung open and Kokushibo was struck! she was probably the most beautiful woman Kokushibo had ever laid eyes on!, she was dressed in a beautiful yellow kimono that had a sun flower design, she had a slender figure and long red to black hair and big red eyes that remanded Kokushibo of his brother's wich made him both angry and happy for some reason, she had a scar on her forehead but Kokushibo didn't mind. for Kokushibo the scar made her look strong and tough wich made her even more beautiful and attractive to him he also saw that she wasn't wearing any hanafuda earrings wich made him question if he had arrived at the wrong house...maybe the rumors were false?.
'Oh don't just stand there please come in!' the woman said.
Kokushibo took off his gita sandals before entering the house , 'May i...know your name?' Kokushibo asked politely , 'My name is Hinata Kamado ' the woman now known as Hinata said , 'My name is Michikatsu...Tsugikuni ' Kokushibo answered with his true name.
Once Michikatsu was inside Hinata served Michikatsu some tea and the two started talking, they talked for hours Michikatsu was a very interesting man to talk to. They were deep in their conversation when suddenly Michikatsu pulled out his katana, Michikatsu's enhanced uppermoon senses had picked up an odd presents outside!...he could hear strange footsteps approaching the home from outside!. Hinata said that it must be her father who sometimes goes out to sell charcoal, this made Michikatsu relax as the woman rushed outside to greet her father Michikatsu followed right behind. Michikatsu gasped the elderly man reminded him of his little brother Yoriichi in his older years and like Yoriichi this man was still alive despite the mark on his forehand that was similar to Yoriichi's. But unlike Yoriichi, this man had soft and round features giving him a softer more gentle looking face and was wearing a black and yellow checkered haori and he was wearing Yoriichi's earrings. Michikatsu realized that this man was his target!, anger, fear and panic started to full him but he quickly put his hand back on his sword and was prepared to fight! he wasn't going to underestimate the old man, he had made that mistake in the past and it almost cost him his dear life!. The old man saw the fear and panic on Michikatsu's face, he quickly closed the gap between them and put his hand on the disguised demon's shoulder 'There's no need to be on guard we are just a simple charcoal burning family' the old man said with a kind voice. Michikatsu oddly no longer felt any anger or hatred towards the old man he was also impressed by the speed that the man displayed. Hinata ran straight to her father and huged him he laughed little and huged her back.
'I see you've already met my daughter, my name is Tanjuro Kamado' the elderly man now known as Tanjuro introduced himself before they all went back inside to shelter from the cold. Hinata explained what happened as her father was restocking their pantry, 'So You're a samuri Michikatsu i thought your kind went extinct back in the meiji era i haven't seen a samuri since i was a young man almost forty years ago you must be one of the last of your kind?!...why don't you stay with us for the winter? it's getting cold outside and it would be hard even for a samuri like you travel in such harsh weather' Tanjuro said.Michikatsu thought about it and he decided to stay with the Kamados for the winter to gage if their a threat.
The long and cold winter months past by. Michikatsu didn't sense any threat from the Kamados wich made him breathe a huge sigh of relief...A huge burden was taken of his shoulders. Michikatsu got colse to Hinata and eventually he proposed and the two became husband and wife, after the wedding Michikatsu gave his new wife a special wedding gift a weapon called a Naginata. The naginata was unique weapon a combination of sword and spear, it was a wooden bamboo pole with a blade on the top that resembled a katana. It was a sengoku era tradition for a samurai to give his wife a naginata. Michikatsu still practiced and carried out the samurai traditions of the sengoku era he hails from five hundred years later and being a samurai master and having trained in the use of all traditional japanese weapons, he of course trained his wife and teached her how to use a naginata so she can protect herself and their family. Tanjuro on the other hand was fulled with nostalgia it reminded him of the day he married his late wife kie...oh how he wished she was still alive so she can see this.
Michikatsu was sitting with Hinata and Tanjuro. Hinata had made some blue tea for them to drink, once they finished enjoying their tea Michikatsu asked his wife how did she make this tea and what herbs did she use. Hinata explained that she makes this tea from blue flowers that grow near their home wich was now Michikatsu's home as well, this got Michikatsu's attention and made him ask the Kamados to show him where the flowers are. Hinata and Tanjuro explained that the flowers only bloom at spring in the day time, they also said that today they will heading out to gather the flowers so Michikatsu grabbed his umbrella before joining them. The Kamados have always been concerned why Michikatsu can't go out in the sun so he claimed that he had a skin disease as an excuse wich the Kamados accepted as for the umbrella Michikatsu got it as a wedding gift from Hinata wich was very kind and thoughtful of her.
After a short walk the three had arrived at the spot where the blue flowers bloom and Michikatsu let out a huge gaspe!...he couldn't believe his eyes! there in front of him were two beds of blue spiderlilys growing from two graves!...he couldn't believe it!...he had found the blue spiderlily!...and it was growing at his own home...
Michikatsu came closer. He could tell that these graves were very old. Once he got colse enough he wiped the old grime and dirt off the grave stones so he can read the inscription, the inscription on the first stone read, 'Here lays my beloved wife Uta.' and the second one red 'Here lays my beloved daughter Sayaka' Michikatsu couldn't believe it!
these are the graves of Yoriichi's wife and daughter the graves of his sister in law and his niece!. It's no wonder why the Kamados home was so familiar it used to be his brother's home!. 'Did you know these people...did they mean anything to you?' Hinata asked softly as she gently lied her head on his shoulder.
'Yes' Michikatsu answererd simply. Once they finished picking the blue spiderlilys they went back in the house. Michikatsu was in a dilemma!...normally Michikatsu would have reported to his master Muzan that he had finally found the rare and precious flower but he didn't want that man anywhere near his family or near his children if he has any in the future. They can't find out that he's a demon!, he hoped that he will be able to use the blue spiderlily to negotiate with Muzan when the time comes.
After their first year of marriage the happy couple were blessed with their first child, a son who Michikatsu named Tanjiro. For a long time Michikatsu had accepted that becoming a demon had taken away his ability to have children and made peace with that. He wasn't sure that he can still have children of his own..he had never heard of a demon and human having hybrid offspring together and now he's a father again and he and his wife are welcoming their first child into the world!...this was a lot for the demon samurai to process. He was worried much more than a normal new parent would be...as far as he knew this child was the first of his kind, he feard what sort of complications might happen...what if their child was deformed or ended suffering from health issues due to being half human and half demon!!!...these fears and worries plagued Michikatsu's mind for so long but fortunately Tanjiro turned out to be a very normal and healthy child, that gave the upper rank one a huge peace of mind but there were some interesting things that the family noticed. Tanjiro was born with two marks, one on his forehand that was just like his grandfather's along with an other mark on his neck that went from his lower jaw all the way down to his collar bone just like his father's, and as a baby it was hard and difficult for Tanjiro to be out in the sun this made the family worried that Tanjiro had inherited his father's skin disease but luckily that problem went away a few short months after Tanjiro was born, the boy could also heal and regenerat his wounds and he was stronger than a normal child Michikatsu saw that his son already had the strength of eight sumo wrestlers at only four years old. He thought that was because of his demon side.
For eight years Michikatsu lived along side his family. Every new year the head of the family Tanjuro would preform a dance called The Hinokami Kagura (the dance of the sun god) every year Michikatsu would observe the dance for it was a dance based on sun breathing but Michikatsu never told that to his family. As a child Tanjiro used to mimic his grandfather's dance and eventually Tanjuro taught him how to perform The Hinokami Kagura while his father Michikatsu taught him moon breathing. Tanjiro always looked forward to his sword lessons from his father he wanted to be strong so he could protect their family just like his dad. Tanjiro was close with his father however the boy noticed some odd things about his father.First was his strange scent, dad would always smell like mold and rotting oil wich was so weird. Second was his speech pattern and mannerisms, dad was even more old fashioned than grandpa Kamado and he spoke in such an old and archaic form of the japanese language his grammar was different and he would pronounce words differently, he thought that it was because his dad was a samurai that it was how he was raised. Tanjiro would also ask his father about the tales of demons that his grandfather would tell him Michikatsu would always dismiss them as just myth...he couldn't let his family figure out that he's a demon after all they were taught that all demons were evil...they might no longer accept him!.
Tanjiro's mother had grown weak and frail due to a mysterious illness. Michikatsu knew that this was due to the cursed mark on her forehead and having so many children had weakended her and made the disease progress faster than it normally would but Michikatsu couldn't bear to tell her this after all Tanjiro was not their only child there was also Nezuko, Takeo, Hanako, Shigeru and Rokuta. Whenever Michikatsu showed worry or concern she would always reassure that she was all right showing her strong spirit wich Michikatsu admired. Sadly Hinata eventually submitted to hir illness and passed away when Tanjiro was only ten years old and shortly after giving birth to Rokuta their youngest child and one year later when Tanjiro was eleven years old the head of the family Tanjuro passed away as well he died naturally due to old age. It was a heart breaking and devastating loss for the family Michikatsu had lost his wife and the only woman he had ever fallen in love with and he lost his father in law who quite ironically became like a father to him while his children had lost their mother and grandfather, he knew that this would happen eventually...he was a demon he was inevitability going to out live them but that didn't make it hurt any less but despite all that Michikatsu was glad that he had found the Kamados and that he got to know them...he was alone and lost in the dark before he found them they had helped him reawaken his humanity and become a better person he is in a better place because of them and for that he will be eternally grateful for them, he will honor their memory...he won't let them be forgotten. Tanjuro had passed on the hanafuda earrings before he died and that year Tanjiro preformed the Hinokami Kagura in his grandfather's stead to honor his grandfather's memory.
'I...Named this sword...Kyokokukamusari...it...once... belonged to me and i wish to pass it on to you...my...son it is yours if you accept.' Michikatsu sopke to his son. It had been a year since Tanjuro passed away. Tanjiro had reached the age of twelve and Michikatsu saw that Tanjiro was ready to inherit his Nichirin sword. Tanjiro accepted wanting to carry on his father's legacy, he started training with the Kyokokukamusari every day, the winter that year was the happiest the Tsugikuni family had been in a long time, despite all the losses and grief they had gone through until one day Michikatsu heard his master's voice inside his head 'COME NOW!' commanded master Muzan.
'I promise that i will return...Tanjiro...Protect our family while i'm gone' Michikatsu said to his eldest child, he was neeling so he could look into Tanjiro's eyes, ' I won't let you down this is what you trained me for' said Tanjiro in a voice that warmed his father's cold demonic heart, once Michikatsu was outside he called for Nakime who instantly teleported him to The Dimensional Infinite Fortress. Muzan had called for an uppermoon meeting. Michikatsu had found himself surrounded by his fellow uppermoons they were all gathered in Muzan's throne room, they all got on one knee and bowed before their demon king. 'It has come to my attention that you have failed in your mission Kokushibo' said Muzan menacingly. 'What do you mean master the woman and her father are both dead?!' replied Michikatsu confused. 'You let the children live! i have seen your memories Kokushibo...the oldest one is Tanjiro right' Muzan threatened. 'You're asking me to kill my own children!' Michikatsu was furious he cut Muzan's arm so fast he couldn't comprehend! he didn't notice that his arm was amputated until he looked and saw his lemb regenerat, all the other Uppermoons gasped they had never seen Kokushibo this angry before. 'I will continue to follow you but leave my children out of this! they won't interfere with your plans ' said Kokushibo. 'How dare you!' shouted a female voice it was Daki one of the uppermoon six siblings. 'Enough!' yelled Muzan. Kokushibo was equal in power with Muzan so the demon king didn't want to lose him as a subordinate. 'I will give you one year to change them, either they become demons under my control or i will kill them myself!' said Muzan before dismissing the meeting. Once he made it home he was greeted by the happy faces of his children who all rushed outside to hug him. Michikatsu couldn't bring himself to turn his children into demons the thought of them losing their freedom and become Muzan's slaves broke his heart, he decided that he would think about it later until eventually a year past.
