It's already been a couple of days from what he could tell. He remembered the moment he was wheeled into the hospital shortly after the ambulance had arrived and barely clinging onto life from what the doctors were saying. The rest of his classmates were either being checked due to their own injuries including Deku, Todoroki and Uraraka who had a nasty stab wound in her abdomen from what he had overheard after checking in on her along with the others, while the rest of their class were silently waiting in the waiting room still dawning their hero suits refusing to change out of them until they heard any news.
He silently watched as they did everything they possibly could to help him, frantically moving and hearing them bark orders left and right until he heard commotions down the hallway of the hospital.
"Let me through!"
"Mom?" He said knowing full well who's voice it was and that his parents couldn't hear him, but that didn't stop his voice from breaking when he saw them frantically try and push their way through the nurses only to stop by the doorway of the emergency room.
"Oh no!" Covering her face the moment she saw her son motionlessly on the table as the doctor and nurses continued working on him, she felt her legs become numb and give out on her as her husband rushed to her side to keep her from falling as she cried out. "Masaru that's Katsuki! That's our baby boy!"
Rendered speechless, his dad didn't bother hiding the tears covering his own face as he desperately tried to tend to his sobbing wife.
"Dad?!" Taking shaky steps towards them he didn't know what to do, it wasn't everyday he saw them crumple right before his eyes and he felt sick to his stomach at being the cause of that. Pulling at his hair as all the emotions threatened to overpower him, he dropped himself helplessly against the wall outside of the room as the continues cries and noises from inside the room became too much and his own tears streamed down his face.
"He's going to be ok Mitsuki you hear me? He has to be. He's our son, he's stubborn and strong, he'll pull through this. He's-" cutting himself off when he saw the staff get silent and the doctor walk over to them. Bakugo dad knew just by the look on the doctor's face that this wasn't going to be good news.
The doctor looked at them with the same apologetic face that Bakugo was sure he had given to so many other families in the past and knew that this was never an easy job for someone in that profession but couldn't help the anger he felt at his next words. "I'm sorry to have to be the one to tell you this…"
"You're sorry?! You're fuckin sorry?!" Bakugo shouted, letting out all the anger and frustration ten times more when he heard his mother cry in agony after as his own tears wouldn't stop. "What kind of fuckin doctor are you?! I'm right fuckin here! Just get me back into my damn body!" Reluctant to listen to anymore of what the doctor had to say he quickly stormed out of the place without another word.
But he didn't care, none of it mattered anymore and it's not like anyone could hear or see him.
Which is why he found himself now a couple of days later quietly standing next to his parents begrudgingly listening to what the damn person reading the eulogy was saying. You would think that it's something he was eager to hear, but the way the person was going on and on about his life and all of his great accomplishments made him seem too damn noble. Like he's never done anything wrong in his entire life. Yeah, he was great at everything he did and was as close to perfect as someone could get but shit even he had to admit that he's made some mistakes here and there throughout his life that he could count on two fingers. Ok maybe more but who's counting.
"Katsuki Bakugo was sadly taken from us too soon…."
"No kidding..." He mumbled.
"And although we know he's in a better place now…."
"Right here idiot."
"He will forever be missed and remembered as someone who cared a great deal about people. Always ready to lend a helping hand and be there for anyone in need. His generosity-""
"Who the fuck are you even talking about?" Looking around Bakugo shook his head glaring at the guy in annoyance. If anyone was going to say shit about him then they better be right.
"Is he still talking about Bakugo?" Kaminari quietly whispered to Sero who shrugged his shoulders wondering the same thing.
"Idiots." He couldn't help but grin knowing that his friends even knew him better than this fool.
Once people started walking up to give their respects, he joined them placing himself next to his headstone which in itself was already too weird for him to try and acknowledge further. One by one people started walking up placing various gifts and trinkets next to the stone. Most of the ones he'd already seen before but barely even remembered any of them, thinking that they were probably distant relatives or something.
He continued to listen to them while keeping his eyes on his parents who seemed calmer now but still wore tired and disheartened expressions on their faces.
"Hey man, not sure if you're listening." Kirishima said snapping Bakugo back to the two now in front of him.
"Hey Shitty hair and Raccoon eyes. You morons look like you've seen better days." He gave a sad smile when he heard Kirishima sniff and Mina cover her mouth to keep the obvious sobs at bay.
"Hey blasty. We sure are going to miss having you around…." Mina's lip wabbled allowing Kirishimas arms to wrap around her for comfort.
"We all are man." Kirishima grinned, forcing the tears back. "But I promise you we'll continue to do our best here. We'll keep fighting the fight. Otherwise, I know you'll come back and kick our asses."
"You know me so well." Bakugo chuckled. "And here I thought you couldn't use that head of yours."
"Anyways, I…I'm going to miss you man." Kirishima lowered his head and Bakugo felt his smirk fade already regretting his decision to be here. "It won't be the same without you."
"Kirishima…" he saw them step back, both holding each other for support. Even though Bakugo hated to admit this he knew that a big part of him would miss being with his friend but was glad that someone like Kirishima at least had someone there for him.
"Hey Bakugo, it's Todoroki."
"Yeah, Icy hot I can see that." He smirked watching Todoroki's eyes glued to his gravestone. His gravestone….
"I'm usually not that good at this."
"Me and you both." He quietly said shoving his hands in his pockets. "So just say what you want to say and quite making it uncomfortable for the both of us."
"Even though we've had our differences at times, I want to tell you how much our friendship meant to me. And even if you didn't want to acknowledge it, you are one of my best friends So I thank you."
"You just had to go and make shit awkward didn't you." Bakugo scoffed watching him walk to stand next to the rest of their classmates as they continued taking turns from Iida, Ojiro all the way to Deku who was still healing from the battle and could barely finish any words without breaking down and crying to where his mom had to help him up.
"This is stupid." He grumbled roughly trying to kick at a nearby rock but cursed under his breath when his foot just went right through the damn thing.
"Hey Bakugo, it's me." Uraraka's soft voice could be heard next. He could tell she wasn't looking her best either. Other than the obvious wound that made her wince in pain after every step. He noticed the puffiness under her eyes and her eyes appearing almost bloodshot.
Had she been crying? Was it because of him?
Shaking his head to get rid of that thought he tried to convince himself that it was the result of everything they had just dealt with piling up. Since there was no way it could ever be for him. Looking her over again he leaned back against the stone. "Damn cheeks, you look like shit."
Smiling weakly, she looked down at the white lilies in her hands. "I usually don't know what to say to things like these…." She began, only briefly pausing and he didn't dare speak, curious to hear what she had to say. "But what they said about you earlier…not all of it was true."
"Gee thanks."
"You weren't the nicest person, nor the friendliest. You always had something to say even if it's what people didn't want to hear at the time. You could be rude, brazen, arrogant…"
"Well damn Round-face try not to be too nice to me. It's only my funeral." He sarcastically rolled his eyes crossing his arms. Shit even after he was gone, she still would speak her damn mind about him.
Giggling she pressed on. "But in the end, that's what made you so unique."
"What?"
"You never held back, not for an instant and when people needed you, you were always there for them no questions asked. So, I know that you cared- even when you wanted us to think that you didn't. You cared for all of us."
"So what if I did…" he stubbornly mumbled, his red eyes staying on her until she looked up. When he met her gaze, his breath hitched, and it seemed that for a brief second, she was staring directly back at him the way she always did, even as she gave a small smile in return. "Uraraka….?"
Glancing back down she slowly placed the flowers down. "I know I should've told you sooner…now I'll never get the chance to."
"Tell me what?" He found himself leaning forward eagerly waiting for her to continue, but when she never did and instead went to join the others, he decided to just let the matter go not like it matter now either way.
The car ride back was rather silent with both of his parents each engrossed in their own thoughts while Bakugo sat in the backseat leaning his head back and trying to fall asleep. Wait, could he even fall asleep? Now thinking back on it he couldn't remember the last time he slept. Guessing that that was another thing that didn't matter since he was already 'dead'. But damn why couldn't he have that capability of not sleeping when he was alive. Imagine all the training and things he could have accomplished at the time.
Chuckling he scolded himself thinking now was not the time, but then another thought hit him. "Shit what the fuck am I supposed to do all day?"
When the car finally stopped, he reached over for the doorknob but of course couldn't, so he fell face first into the hard concrete. "Damn it!"
Lifting himself up he frowned when he came to realize that they weren't even at the house, instead he saw a rather small private hospital from what he could tell and had never seen before and was quick to follow his parents inside. Once they arrived at the front desk, they were ushered down the small hallway and towards a closed door.
"Alright guys where the fuck are we?" he asked and for the first time actually missed his mother reprimanding him for his foul language.
"Oh good, you made it."
"All Might? Mr. Aizawa?" Quickly letting himself inside before his dad closed the door behind them, he cautiously saw them all exchange greetings before taking their seats. "What are you guys doing here? And why the fuck weren't you at my damn funeral?" He scowled remembering how surprised and disappointed he was that they didn't even attend.
"Thank you for letting us come by." Bakugos dad placed a comforting hand on his wife's. "You can imagine how hard this has been, especially just coming back from the funeral."
"Of course." All might said giving them a sympathetic smile. "Rest assured we are doing everything we can. That's why we couldn't find it in ourselves to attend."
"I'm sure you know how much Bakugo means to us as well." Mr. Aizawa said, and Bakugo could now see his teachers' eyes looking even more tired than usual as well as the eyebags being darker.
"Has there been any change?" Bakugos mom cut in.
Getting to their feet, Mr. Aizawa gestured for them to follow down another door that was attached to this one allowing them to step inside. "We've tried everything we can think of right now but nothing's worked."
"There has been some unusual brain activity recently but other than that…." Shaking his head All Might silently watched his parents each take a seat next to the bed Bakugo's body was laying on with multiple wires attached to him.
"The fuck is this?!" The panic in his chest rose allowing his breathing to increase along with it. What was he looking at and why was his body laying there?! Suddenly the conversation between his parents and the doctor came back to the forefront of his mind and he seriously wished he would have stuck around to listen in on it. "What is this?! Oi!" He frantically waved his hand in front of their faces to get their attention, but nothing seemed to work. Upon realizing how close he was to his actual body he quickly jumped as far back as he could, letting fear settle in. "Shit…"
The room felt like it was suddenly spinning almost closing in on him as he tried to control his breathing. "If I'm here then who the fuck did we bury?"
"Young Bakugo?"
Whipping his growing eyes towards the former symbol of peace Bakugo saw him lean forward to talk to his motionless body.
"Young Bakugo…we're here. Can you here us?"
Nodding his head, he couldn't do anything else but stare at his body in horror. "What the hell happened to me…?"
