After his parents and friends managed to pack everything up and load them into the car, he stayed in the room for a little while longer while his parents went back to bid their farewells to the teachers and principal. The room looked so empty now with all of his belongings gone as if none of this even happened, as if he was never there to begin with. "Kind of like now…" he exhaled loudly stuffing his hands into his pockets and taking one last look around. Maybe he was never here, and this was all just a bad dream.
And what shitty dream this would turn out to be if he ever woke up. He wouldn't lie and say he hadn't already tried to repeatedly pinch himself to the point he was sure to bruise. And how the fuck was that even possible? He couldn't do shit, but he sure as hell felt that!
Deciding that instead of spending every damn day at home, he might as well spend some time at this stupid place that despite what everyone thought, held some sentimental memory for him- and if anyone asked, he would definitely deny deny deny. At least this way he could see what everyone was up to instead of wallowing in his own self-pity and being bored out of his damn mind.
School didn't seem any different as time went by. Switching between sitting in his old seat and finding it hilarious how unbeknownst to Deku, he had two invisible people now sitting in front of him. To sometimes sitting on top of Mr. Aizawa's desk, or just walking around the classroom while pointing out all of the wrong answers Pikachu and Raccoon Eyes were filling out on their recent test at the moment.
"Oh come on! Even a kindergartener could do this shit, it's clearly 'A'!" he barked out, glaring at Kaminari as he scratched his head with the other end of his pencil before proudly circling 'C'. "Fuckin hell!"
Now of all times he actually felt sympathy for their teacher when having to grade all their papers and fully understanding why Mr. Aizawa did what he did to them and continued to push them further.
"I get it now. They're all plain idiots!" Bakugo looked over his shoulder as Mr. Aizawa rubbed his temple again.
By the time it was lunch time, Bakugo did what he always did and sat in his usual table while he now patiently -not like he had much choice or anything else going on at the moment- waited for the losers to hurry up and get their food.
Absently drumming his fingers on the table, he leaned his chin on his palm watching all the students pass by or waiting in line to get their food. How much he actually missed times like this was becoming more and more pathetic. "What the hell…" he groaned dropping face first on the table. "Ow…"
"Yo!"
Snapping his head up he saw Sero grinning the way he usually would before placing his tray down and sitting in front of Kirishima who now sat in his usual seat next to Bakugo and already digging into his food.
"How did you think you did on the test?"
"Think it went alright." Sero shrugged a spoonful of food into his mouth.
It seemed that even though he wasn't there anymore, none of them had it in them to sit in Bakugos old spot and it became a silent way of acknowledging that they haven't forgotten him, which in a way, he did appreciate. But the more time passed he felt like it wasn't really doing them any favors in return...not even himself.
"What about you?" Kirishima curiously asked once Kaminari placed his tray down.
"Pfft. I think I aced it, no problem."
"Tch, right." Bakugo cackled. "You'd be lucky to get a damn ''D' for dumbass."
"Hey where's Mina?" Kaminari said looking around the lunchroom before sitting down.
"Here I am!" Mina happily sing songed making Bakugo roll his eyes. "Sorry I'm late, did you miss me?"
"No." he quickly said.
"Course we did." Kirishima gave her a quick peck on the lips making all the boys turn to playfully gag.
"Oh pipe down." Mina waved them off. "I was just talking with Ochaco before we were interrupted by one of the hero course students."
"Oh yeah?" Kirishima gave a slight frown, taking another bite of his food while she nodded.
"Yup." Minas smile slowly faded as she scanned the room. "Oh yeah, see right over there!"
Turning to see what she was pointing at, he could see Uraraka holding her tray while talking with some extra he's never seen before. 'Who the fuck's that?"
"Who's that?" Kaminari thankfully asked the same question and Bakugo felt as though that was the most intelligent question that's ever come out of his mouth to date.
"I think he's a third year." Mina hummed placing a finger to her cheek. "And he seems really nice-"
"Tch, yeah right." Rolling his eyes Bakugo leaned back in his seat, crossing his arms in front of him. If he was in a position to eat, the plain sight of them would've made him lose his appetite in an instant. First it was Deku and now this extra…
"And obviously so into her." Mina giggled when she saw the confused looks on their faces. "Other than the fact that he's been trying to talk to her since we came to this school, they also had training with Gunhead together first year and…I may have heard him mentioning asking her on a date or something like that…." She said the last part more to herself than anything but after hearing Kirishima choke on his food Bakugo knew he wasn't the only one surprised.
"Date?! A fuckin date?!" Bakugo growled slamming his hand on the table but to them it didn't make a sound. "They barely know each other dumbass!"
Did he know he was overreacting?...maybe. Did he care? Not in the slightest. So, what if this extra knew her from first year-that didn't mean that they really knew each other or even had anything in common, even if they were in the same agency before… "Damn it!"
"Are you sure you heard correctly?" Kirishima coughed some more drinking the water Mina offered him.
"Better get your damn ears checked Pinky." Bakugo glared daggers at the extra who was smiling down at something Uraraka was saying before the gravity girl shook her head with an apologetic smile.
"Yup I'm never wrong with these things." Mina sternly pointed a finger at them. "Trust me."
"Yeah well you're wrong this time." Bakugo breathed calmly through his nose wondering why the fuck this dumb fuck was still standing there talking with her. This wasn't a damn dating site! This was lunch time and she needed to eat damn it!
"Well, what do you think she'll say?" Glancing up Kirishima looked just as concerned as the rest of the table did.
"She'll say no of course!" The explosive boy scoffed. "Come on what kind of stupid question is that Shitty hair?" Leaning back in his chair he tried to avert his eyes but the sudden urge to walk up to them was making him steal small glances their way.
"Honestly…I don't know." Mina quietly chewed on her food pondering the same thing.
Once Uraraka bid the guy goodbye she quickly went and sat next to Deku and Iida who continued to talk about how the test went. She felt bad about declining another date with him, but she just didn't have the time right now nor energy. She would be lying if she didn't feel awkward at the thought of saying yes at the moment but decided not to ponder on it any further as she felt a cold shiver run up her spine like someone was staring dagger at the back of her head.
As the months dragged on, he made himself a schedule to keep busy until he could hopefully find some good news on whatever condition he had. He made sure to go to every visit to the hospital in case Mr. Aizawa or All Might had something new to share, which at the moment it seemed they didn't. And it always ended the same way it started with All Might quietly talking to his physical form. He would spend the weekend at home unless the class had something interesting scheduled that he wanted to witness.
He knew he was possibly hoping for something that may never happen as the months continued to drag by without him, but he couldn't help it. Anytime he felt helpless, frustrated, or even angry he would try and shove those feelings aside thinking that if everything does work out, that he'd be damned if he was left behind -which was why he had decided to stay on top of school just in case. He knew it was a fool's hope but frankly he didn't care since that's all he could cling onto at the moment.
Kirishima and the rest of his friends seemed to be doing a little better now too, which he was thankfully for, but there were those moments that did get to him whenever they would mention him or he'd find some of them upset, and he had to just walk out of the room when it happened knowing that there was nothing he could do.
During the weekdays he would spend the day in class, then follow anyone willing to go to the gym which usually included Deku, Kirishima, Shoji, Uraraka and even Mina started going more frequently. While they worked out, so did he and helped keep his mind busy. Of course, he couldn't use any of the damn equipment like he wanted to so he was stuck without, but anything would do at the moment.
Afterwards he would aimlessly wander the halls or the dorms wishing that if he was something like a damn ghost or whatever, he'd kill to at least be able to scare someone. But he couldn't even do that shit!
What he didn't expect and even surprised him was that he would constantly find himself every night sitting in Uraraka's room while they both studied, or she did her homework. Yes, he would very well admit that he was still pretty annoyed about her unwillingness to help out when clearing out his room, but figured he couldn't really take it out on her when it wasn't even her problem to begin with. But it didn't mean that the thought still didn't bother him.
But regardless there was just something about the way he found himself still so drawn to her and often found himself calm and relaxed whenever he found himself with her, which was the complete opposite from before. You wouldn't find him anywhere near her room before any of this happened since she also had a way to make him feel like a stumbling nervous wreck if she even glanced his way. To which to his annoyance Kirishima always caught, and he would just change the topic or make up some bullshit lie until he was satisfied that the red head bought it. So, he was at least glad he was able to do a decent job at hiding it.
So, when it came time to study, he knew he could count on her to get the work done and would constantly scold her whenever she got frustrated or got an answer wrong before trying to figure out what she did wrong. But he had to give it to her, this girl was pretty stubborn and wouldn't stop until she figured it out, even if it cost her her sleep.
"Come on Round-face you can do this." He quietly encouraged from over her shoulder watching her glare down at the equation in front of her until a good 6 minutes had gone by and she gave a satisfied grin quickly solving it correctly.
"Told you, you could do it!" he proudly grinned. "Alright how about the next one?" He hesitantly leaned forward pointed to the next question.
He knew she couldn't hear nor see him, but when his right cheek came dangerously close to hers, he tried his best to ignore the blush that was sure on his face and quickly made it a point to move back to his previous position.
Humming to herself, she took less time this time around to solve the next problem happily patting herself on the back as she let out a small giggle.
"Dork" he smirked at her reaction before lazily stretching his arms over his head and walking over to her dresser while she continuously worked on another question.
He leaned down to see some small pictures by her mirror. Some he guessed where of her and her parents, while others were of her and most of their classmates. "Damn Round-face you almost have everyone on here." He chuckled, hiding the small disappointment inside him when he realized someone was missing. "Guess I didn't make the cut huh…"
Shoving his hands in his pockets he silently watched her reflection from the mirror. Not that he could blame her since he wouldn't be caught dead taking pictures for anyone, and in the event, they did without his knowledge, he made them regret it later.
"Alright, I can do this." She mumbled to herself starting on the next problem.
"Hah?" Looking over his shoulder he quickly shook his head. "You need sleep Cheeks." Exhaling loudly, he quickly walked back to her desk frustrated that she couldn't hear him. "Oi, are you listening?! You need to get some rest Uraraka. You have your work studies tomorrow morning, and you're not going to do anyone any good if you pass out."
Turning the page as she quietly worked, he reluctantly sat himself down on the ground next to her chair like he always did, muttering to himself about how she was ignoring him until he heard soft snores coming from behind him.
Getting to his feet he carefully and quietly stepped closer, not entirely sure why he even bothered since she couldn't even hear him. Crouching down to be at eye level with her he felt his eyes softening when he saw her peacefully breathing in and out, all the exhaustion from the day catching up with her.
"I don't get you." He quietly said his red eyes never leaving her. "Why are you pushing yourself so hard Uraraka…?"
"Hmm…"
Chuckling when he realizes she must've been dreaming, he reached over to grab the small blanket behind her chair to cover her without thinking, but when his hand just went through the fabric he quickly jolted away with wide frightened eyes as if it burned him. "Shit..."
His throat painfully tightened, and vision began to blur. Somehow, she always made him forget that he wasn't actually here and as much as he wanted to be…he just wasn't.
He furiously shook his head to keep the tears away, thinking that he should just leave right now like he did every night.
But instead, he sat himself back on the ground leaning against the legs of the chair. Closing his eyes and leaning his head back, he knew he wasn't going to sleep. He never could. But this time he would rather forget about that and for tonight just pretend he could.
