The Buckley's show up unannounced at Maddie's wanting to see her and Jee. However, Maddie's at work, Tommy's babysitting and it's been made clear they aren't welcomed. Christmas day had been perfect ever since Eddie had opened his front door to see Christopher standing there.

Tommy finds the jeep because of a mix up with the towing company and he saves it. He restores it because he knows that it's another part of Evan. He wants to give it to him for Christmas in hopes that Evan will accept it as an apology and his love.
