The Bard Class is Made Out of Bard's
3rd Song
Stardust Song
She watched as Hallow dropped the leather pouch in front of the village chief, letting the three goblin ears and magic stones that Lark had taken from their defeated opponents into the table.
Along with it were the three wooden weapons that they pillaged from their corpses, which the elderly gentleman looked at with wide eyes.
"M-my goodness! So you encountered three goblins on your expedition?" He asked as he turned towards the black haired boy, still dressed in adventuring gear like the rest of them, puffed out his chest.
"Yes! We most certainly did!" The now fully healed Hero proudly declared, most certainly ignoring the glare that she was giving him. "But of course those measly goblins were no match for my great self!" He said as he slammed a fist on his chest.
"Oh! As expected of the Hero!" The bearded old man crowed, stroking Hallow's ego even more as his grin went wider and wider.
She could most certainly point out how he was the only one injured in their party. Though he was healed his shirt still had a new hole and was darker in colour in that specific side because, you know, the blood.
But decided to give the boy a break as she interjected before they could get off track. "Thankfully we didn't encounter anything more than just these three goblins. But from the looks of things, there might be a nest or a village somewhere deeper in the forest."
The elderly man frowned as he stroked his chin. He used to have a beard, but the old coot apparently had it fall off since he kept trying to woo younger women. Man the troubles of married life. "And what makes you say that, young Christina?"
"For starters, the three goblins seemed organized." She pointed out, and vegan retelling their encounter. "At first we only found a single goblin, but two soon came after we managed to kill that one."
"It could be a coincidence, then." The old man challenged. "Did they not simply stumble into your party vanquishing their brethren?"
"It could be. The first one did manage to give out some loud screeches before we could put it down." She agreed, still letting the possibility hang. "But their weapons says otherwise." She said, glancing towards the wooden weapons that laid on the table in front of them.
"Huh? What about their weapons?" Brad asked, joining in on the conversation for the first time.
"She means that it's clearly crafted." Maria said, gripping her staff tight as she glared at the wooden spear with drying blood on its tip. "Goblins do use weapons, but most of the time they would pick anything that they could get their hands on."
"Rocks, sticks, or weapons from travelers or adventurers that they killed. They'll use basically anything." Lark nodded. "But it isn't like they're born with weapons that they could use."
"And this one," She said as she heated the spear, pressing a gloved hand onto the tips that were most certainly sharpened. "Is definitely handmade. Though thankfully the goblins that we saw didn't think of putting pointy rocks at its edge." And from the flinch she saw Hallow had as his hand went to his side, he most certainly was grateful for that.
"And if they could craft these weapons-"
"Then they could most certainly make other things as well. Fences and the like." The old man said grimly as other adults behind him began whispering to one another while he inspected one of the wooden clubs in front of him. "Goblins normally don't have the intelligence to even craft basic weaponry like these. But with their incredibly fast growth cycle, if they were to band together…"
The words hung in the air before the village chief nodded his head with a grim expression. "I will send someone to contact the adventurers guild in Milliarno. We'll post a quest to exterminate a goblin village and hope that a group of adventurers would accept it."
"But elder! Our current budget is-!"
"if the adventurers demand more than we can give-!"
"Who knows when they would even take the request?!"
"I'm sure that you handled the goblins corpses?" The village elder asked, to which she of course nodded her head.
"We made sure to bury their corpse at least. We could have burned their corpses but…" She glanced back towards Louise, and she rapidly shook her head left and right. "Since our Magician still isn't that confident in her magic control we were worried that we could have caused a forest fire."
"Hm, that should be good enough." He grunted. "Hopefully no other monsters are attracted by that then."
"I'm pretty sure we buried them deep enough." She certainly hoped that Lark and Brad did, their encounter with the goblins weren't that close to the village, but she hopes that nothing else gets baited by that.
"What! But we can take it gramps!" Hallow shouted as he slammed his hands into the table, silencing the bickering adults as he spoke. "It doesn't matter if it's ten or a hundred! Fodders like those goblins will just die from a swing of my blade!"
As if to extenuate his claim, the jet black Hero' hands went to his blade, though he was stopped as the village chief held a hand forward towards him and stopped Hallow from doing something incredibly idiotic.
"Of course we all know that young Hallow." The old man spoke, ignoring the clear shocked look that she was throwing towards their idiotic self proclaimed party leader.
Because what the fu-"Though we know of all of your prowess," The old man's gaze swept through their party, for a brief second stopping on her as he gave a nod. "To face what could possibly be a village of goblins is a danger that I would not wish to befall upon you. Not while you all are still so young."
"But we can totally take them! We've trained hard for it! " Brad came to Hallow's support, but the village chief shook his head.
"I would not doubt the training that you all have done, it has clearly shown here." He said, gesturing to the spoils that they've brought. "But you all are still thirteen. And none of you are full fledged adventurers yet. So until that day comes, jobs like these should be left to proper adults."
Before the black haired boy could open his mouth again, the village chief stood up, his back arched as he held his cane for stability. "Now if you wouldn't mind, we still have much to discuss. But rest assured, we will take your warning in mind."
With that said, they were ushered out of the village chief's home, and were left to their own devices once more.
"What the hell was that!" Hallow shouted as he punched the tree beside him, his strike making the tree shake as a handful of leaves fell from its branches.
Right now they were on a small grassy clearing just outside of the village, with the forest that they had gone to also not far away.
Its her usual haunt that she used to train because she didn't like going into the forest alone, she didn't think that she's prepared for that yet, but the others also tagged along.
It was sort of a debrief session after an adventure. Though from the looks of it it was going to be a Hallow rant with how angry he was.
She didn't bother with giving the preteen a stare, instead letting out a sigh as she made sure that her crossbows strings were in good shape. She thankfully remembered to pick up the bolts that she fired, well Lark took them from the goblins that she shot, but that meant that she didn't have to waste her pocket change to get more!
"And you! What was that whole thing!" The black haired boy turned and angrily pointed towards her.
She raised an eyebrow as her hands kept working. "You'll have to be more specific."
"The thing with Louise!" He hissed as his arm gestured towards the black to bed girl who flinched as her name was called. "You don't get to order her around like that! I'm the party leader here!"
"Certainly not through a vote I'll give you that." She mumbled as she cranes her neck up to look towards the sky, and then down towards the still seething black haired boy.
"Alright look, I saw that you both seemed to be in trouble and asked Louise to help, she obliged and we all got out of there safe and sound."
"safe and sound!? I got injured!" Hallow hissed as his hand went to his side again. "If it weren't for you, then I wouldn't have even been hit by that stupid goblin!"
"The fact that you pointed out that I was the one that ordered Louise meant that you clearly heard me. And Maria also gave a clear warning that you and Brad should move away." She insisted, looking away from him and focusing back on her weapons.
"If anything is at fault here, it's your trust in your party members." She pointed towards him. "The only reason you got hurt is yourself."
"Bwuh!? No that's-I do trust Maria!" He stuttered as his foot stomped on the ground and now stood right in front of her. "And look at me when I'm talking to you! I'm not wrong here! The one that's at fault here is you for giving Louise orders!"
"Ho? Then what was she supposed to do then hm?" She put down her crossbow and leaned her head on her hand, staring up at the boy who clearly thought he was intimidating and met his glare.
"She's supposed to follow my orders! I'm the leader here not you!" He angrily said, waving a finger right at her face.
"So you're saying." She began as she took her hand to grab Hallow's finger. "That all of us should all listen to what you say, and not do anything else?"
As soon as she said that, the angry look on his face dissipated as a confident smirk emerged in its place. "So you do get it! I'm the Hero after all, so everyone should follow my lead!"
"Right." She kept herself from rolling her eyes as she nodded. "In that case then nobody would take initiative in anything. We wouldn't be a party, we'd be your support squad."
The Hero blinked twice at her comment, and frowned. "Yeah? That's the same thing? You're all meant to support me since I'm the leader."
She stared at the black haired boy with her mouth slightly ajar. "Seriously?" groaning, she put her head on her hands as she glanced towards the others. "And you're all alright with that?"
As always, Brad was the first one to answer. "Well I mean, I don't see the difference too?" The spiky haired boy said with a shrug. "So uh, if you don't mind explaining it to me Chris?"
Ugh, she knew that he was a bit slow but this was one of the times that she hoped he was sharp. She sighed as she then said. "If you follow what he said," She pointed towards Hallow. "means that as long as you're in his party, you'll have to follow any and all orders that he'll give."
"Well that doesn't sound too bad-"
"And that means that you don't get any freedom." She shot the black haired boy a smirk as he frowned towards her. "You don't get to choose anything at all. Every move you make in a battle, or even outside of it, has to be according to him. And if you do anything that isn't, he'll get made at you."
"What!? No!" Hallow shouts back as he realized that she was painting him in a bad light. "I wouldn't do something like that!"
"Isn't that what you're doing right now?" She huffed as she met his glare with one of her own. "You're mad that I gave Louise an order, and here you are confronting me right in front of everyone."
"That's because what you did got me hurt!"
"And as I said earlier, that's your fault." Goddess this was their first ever expedition and she's already feeling like she wants to retiring. " I can tell that the longer you're in charge the more annoying it's gonna be. It'll start with you bring angry like this because someone took initiative, but when we don't you'll also get mad. When we don't follow your order to the letter, you'll also get mad. That's the kind of party that you're going to lead isn't it?"
"No! You're wrong!"
"Dude. Whenever we ever try to do together anything you always go and take charge. There's no point denying it." He's certainly the kind of person that's going to grow as a control freak. And after being forced to hang out with him for three years because everyone else seemed to think highly of him, she knew that he's too hard headed to change.
"Anyway, that's the gist of it. What do you think about it now Brad?" She said, turning back to look at the red haired sword wielder.
The black haired Hero turned his head towards the spiky haired boy, the Swordsman having a complicated expression as he rubbed the back of his head.
"That's uh, I guess that'll be weird…" He said. "And uh, I kinda agree with both of you? Like Chris did kinda get Hallow injured, but that's also because he got distracted."
"No no no, about the other thing." She waved her hand left and right. "About having to follow his every order."
"Oh right, that. Uh, it sounds annoying I guess."
"That's probably the best I'll get out of you. Anyone else?"
The others seem to stare at her, going back and forth between the fuming Hallow and herself. "Alright, let's not get too hasty here." And Lark was the one who came forward, both hands in front of him as he attempted to mediate.
"No, I have heard enough." Only for him to be interrupted by Maria. "I have been listening and keeping my silence because we are all friends, but you've gone too far Chris!" The blonde Priestess shouted as she pointed a finger towards her.
Well this is definitely surprising. "In what way did I go too far?" She asked, genuinely curious as to what her reasoning would be.
"This! Taking charge when we fought earlier was one thing, but arguing with Hallow like this is out of line!"
"Wait, the arguing part is where it gets you?"
"Well yes! And that whole thing you said about supporting Hallow!" Maria nodded while continuing. "We are the illustrious members of Hero Hallow's party! It is a given that we follow his orders and support him as much as we can!"
"Yeah that's right! As the Hero that's how it should be!" The black haired boy chimed in, confidence now boosted as soon as someone was in his corner.
"Guys let's all just calm down-"
"I don't think they'll calm down Lark, it's useless at this point." She cut off the brown haired Spearman with a sigh. "Honestly, this thing has been boiling ever since we all got our Jobs appraised. There's no stopping it now."
She stood up as she faced the black haired boy and the blonde haired girl standing right beside him. "Hallow. I'm going to be honest, you're extremely annoying."
"Chris!" Lark hissed out her name., but she ignored him.
"Our whole mission today was to just scout and see any signs of goblin overpopulation, we weren't even supposed to fight any of them. But you jumped the instant you had the chance, and even then if Lark, Brad and I weren't there to help against one goblin, you would have gotten hurt more than you actually did today."
"I would have-!"
"Took care of it? Like you managed to take care of that goblin that both you and Brad had to fight together?" She scoffed, jamming a finger at the boy's chest and making him flinch. "Being confident is one thing, but being over confident and haughty is a whole other matter. You almost pulled your sword in front of the village chief for goodness sake! What exactly do you think you're doing!"
"Enough!" Hallow shouted as he slapped her hand away, and moved-
But with a hum, she managed to grab the arm that was going towards her and spin while using his own momentum to throw Hallow over her shoulder. The black haired boy stared at her with unfocused eyes and a slack jaw as she glared at him.
"And if you're honestly not going to change, then even if your Job is a Hero, I doubt you're ever going to be a true one." She said as she let go of his hand, and immediately Maria went to his side.
"Hallow! Chris you went too far!" The blonde shot a glare her way before turning back to the Hero. "Are you alright Hallow? Do you need me to cast a Heal?"
"No! I've had enough of you!" The black clad boy shouted at the top of his lungs as he pointed towards her angrily. "Chris! I'm kicking you out of the party!"
"What!? Hallow what are you-"
"Yikes dude, you're kicking her out?"
"Hm, so it's like that." Instead of whatever reaction that he seemed to expect, she merely hummed as she saw Maria tend to the fallen Hero.
"Anyone got any objections to this or?" She asked as she turned around, and of course the brown haired boy immediately stepped forwards, his distaste of this whole situation clear from the start.
"Hallow this is going too far! Chris was just pointing out things that you did wrong-"
"Did wrong?! What are you talking about Lark! The only one here that did anything wrong is her!" The black haired boy fumes as Maria helped him stand up, hissing as he angrily pointed towards her.
"She keeps barking orders after orders like she's the leader when I clearly am! Me! The Hero! I'm supposed to be the one in charge here!" the black clad boy shouted as loud as he could while the glare that he had increased in their intensity.
"Whoa dude, calm down." It got to the point that even the laid back Brad also stood in front of Hallow.
"Calm!? I am calm! Are you saying that I'm not!?" He hissed and lashed out at the Swordsman, making the spiky haired boy to back off. "she's just a filthy Bard that never even did anything but use her damned crossbow! She's completely useless! So leave!"
She twitched.
"That's right! This is all your fault Chris! So take responsibility and leave the party!" Maria backed him up, and a part of her actually felt angry that her friend would turn on her like this.
Oh scratch that, she's absolutely livid. "Kaha!" So she laughs. "Kahahahahaha! Seriously? Is that it?"
Everyone was giving her a strange look, even Louise who had been making herself as small as possible did so. she ran a hand through her hair as she spoke. "Jeez, so that's it then huh? Well alright then. I guess since I don't mesh well with the 'party' then I'll leave."
"Chris!?"
"Wait, is Chris seriously leaving the group? Like, for real!?"
"C-Chirs?"
"Yeah sorry guys. I know that it was literally our first expedition and all, but I honestly don't think I can stomach this great Hero of ours." She said derivatively with a shaking head. "I'm gonna be honest, I've been doing my best to grin and bear it since you're all friends, but Hallow's just too much for me."
"Ha?! Of course I'm too much for you! I'm a great Hero!" The black haired boy shouted as he pointed to himself, somehow not even realising that she was blatantly insulting him.
"See?" She pointed at him with a blank look as she stared at the others. "I'm honestly surprised that I managed to keep my sanity for three years with him. I honestly feel like my brain is rotting every single time he opens his mouth."
"What did you say!?"
"You're being very rude to Hallow Chris!" Maria shouted. "Apologize!"
"Ah? Yeah, yeah, I'm sorry." She sighed. "I guess I'm also riled up huh? But honestly I'm glad that I got all of that off of my chest. I meant everything that I said, but I'm sorry if anything I said hurt your feelings I guess."
"You! YOU! Just leave already!" Hallow roared as his hand went to his sword, but she raised her hands in front of her before he could pull it out.
"Yeah, I get it. I'm also guessing that you don't want me to be involved with your party members too?" She asked just in assurance, knowing the kind of person that he was-
"Isn't that obvious!? Leave! And don't bother my party anymore!" The jet black Hero roared out again, his voice echoing all around the hill while she simply sighs. Well there goes that idea.
"Alright, alright I'm leaving." With that said she made sure both her crossbows were holstered at her side before giving a last turn. "Well, I might say that it was annoying, but it's also been fun. Sorry that I can't go on the journey like we all promised."
And with that, before their journey even began, she was expelled from the Hero's party.
