Hello everyone, Alexa here, and welcome to my brand new fanfiction! This is part of a brand new series that I've been hoping to start working on for a while now, ever since I've started playing Genshin Impact—or rather, many weeks after I started playing. I always heard so many news about it and some of my favorite content creators were playing it, but the one that really got me to play was my online friend, which is how I found out about Genshin Impact in the first place. Took me a long time before I started actually playing, but it's worth it, even if some parts are difficult without your friends.
About a long time ago, I got the idea of a crossover between GI and everyone's favorite speedy blue blur, especially after I found out about the rivalry between GI and Sonic Frontiers (no one start ranting about the "cursed" fan-art, I actually kinda like it but don't send hate about it either cause no one should be acting petty about something they don't like). It took a lot of motivation and pausing of some other major projects and a lot of time spent on trying to find a better title name (we do not talk about the amount of time that went into that), but here we finally are! Sonic and GI always felt like a good mix to me, so I'm happy to have finally made this!
Sadly, I cannot tell you guys about when in one of the many Sonic timelines this fic takes place, as I feel like that would most definitely ruin the suspense of it. I know this is annoying, and I'm especially annoyed by it myself, but I figure this'll be the best way to keep the suspense going the whole way. I hope this doesn't ruin the fun of reading the tale, and I hope you all enjoy it despite this little inconvenience.
Of course, major spoilers for the Genshin Impact game and its main storyline, but not much for the Sonic franchise. The story will follow the original timeline of the Genshin Impact game, with some changes made to include Sonic properly and to implement his arc. Major thanks go to my online friends who beta-read this story for me, and a huge thanks to the one who introduced me to Genshin Impact and got me to finally play it after months. Thanks again to you Liam!
I hope you all enjoy, and may God bless us all. And remember: growing up doesn't have to mean growing old.
Chapter 1: The Outlander Who Caught the Wind
The servers are the 7 Chaos. Chaos is power… Power enriched by the heart. The controller is the one that unifies the Chaos.
The 7 Elements of Teyvat. Controlled by the gods, the 7 that rule over the 7 nations. When one finds a mortal with a strong will, they bestow upon them the power to wield one element of this world, to use it to tend to this world and to worship the one that bestowed this power among them.
Teyvat is a world of beauty and conflict, not unlike our own. Of mountains and forests, of seas and lakes, of mysterious ancient lands no mere man dares to tread. Divided into seven nations, one lost to obscure history. Each one ruled by their own god, an Archon that grants their choice of citizens a small amount of their power. A world of gods, magic, and weird monsters, and yet no real relevant story for all of you at home—until today.
So, here we are, on a sunny day. The wind blows and the grass lightly sways, and the sun shines lightly upon the earth. The critters of the woods explore for food, and the air smells fresh, like dew after a storm. The clouds drift by lazily, and the birds fly by overhead in formation. Some butterflies fly along with their friends, while some fly by on their own.
One flies off on its own, and lands on what it believes to be a smooth, black stone. As it stirs, the butterfly flies away, and the one it landed on sits up, rubbing his head and attempting to regain his bearings. The butterfly had landed on his nose just as he was waking up, and he now finds himself awake behind a bush, under the bright sunlight of the lovely morning.
Our main protagonist is not human, as you may have thought when you opened this book. He is a blue hedgehog, one who walks and thinks like a human. His grayish white gloves are faded and a little dirty, and the star pattern on the back of each one glitters with its gold-like shimmer. His red shoes and their golden buckles stand out from his white socks and blue fur, and the teal skin on his limbs, face and stomach is slightly scarred, with some spots looking to be burnt. His name however, is a mystery to us and himself.
He shakes his head and stands up, despite feeling a little tired and dizzy. Confused and dazed, he looks down at himself, tapping the small screen on the star on the back of his gloves. Neither lights up, but he has a feeling they should work for something. He looks around, taking in his surroundings, and breathes in the fresh air. It makes him feel better, if only a little bit. He looks up and tries to find the nearest town, deciding he may need to find some help.
"Hey, are you okay?" Says a small high-pitched voice. The hedgehog turns around and his eyes widen at the bewildering sight. A little girl floats over to him with sparkles and constellations behind her, like a little fairy. Thick white hair and dark purple eyes adorn her face, and her skin is a lovely pale white.
Behind her is a tall girl with shoulder-length golden hair and frontal side straight twin-tails. She wears a white dress with complex patterns too intricate for me to describe. She wears black gloves covering her thumbs with white stockings and long white boots matching her dress that go past her knees.
"We saw you while we were walking along here and wanted to check on you," says the little fairy again, looking him over so closely he was almost uncomfortable. He steps back, trying to find his voice, while she sighs in relief, with a little hand over her heart.
"Oh, that's a relief. Guess Paimon didn't have anything to worry about." The tall girl gently nudges her and steps forward, kneeling down to meet the hedgehog's gaze. With his height being that like a small child's, anyone else could mistake his age. But she could see the maturity and wisdom in his eyes.
"It's okay, we mean you no harm," she says cautiously and gently. Then she gestures to the fairy as she speaks, who gives him a little happy wave. "My name is Lumine, and this is my traveling companion, Paimon. What's your name, stranger?"
The hedgehog looks down and puts his fingers to his chin, and racks his brain for any memories of a name. However, nothing comes to mind but a dream. Memories of pillars standing tall, past the clouds below, and a door that opens up before him to this world. But the voices… the colored lights and their whispers, calling out to him—or atleast, he assumes they were calling for him. But with nothing to be done about his forgotten name, he stands up straight, puts his thumb near his heart, and smiles proudly—the best smile of confidence he can muster.
"I'm Sonic. Sonic the Hedgehog."
