Every time Ezreal escaped from a deadly dungeon or a trap-filled ancient temple, he always thought the worst was over. But no — thirty minutes of filling out paperwork and reporting to the Piltover Explorer's Guild was enough to drive him insane.
What made it worse… was that Kai'Sa was waiting for him outside.
So, the moment he received a nod from the receptionist, Ezreal dashed out the door like someone high on Shimmer.
Kai'Sa stood by the front gate of the Explorer's Guild, quietly observing the bustling streets of Piltover. With her calm and distant demeanor, plus the casual attire, no one would have guessed that this was the warrior who had survived the Void for countless years.
Noticing Ezreal approaching, the huntress offered a small smile.
"Done already?"
"Sorry for making you wait, Kai."
"It's fine, Ez. We have the whole day ahead of us."
"And a few more days after that!" Ezreal grinned confidently.
Kai'Sa merely smiled and followed Ezreal into a small café.
When the waiter placed their drinks on the table, he also left behind a small box.
A simple brown box, neatly holding four white chocolate truffles, each decorated differently. The soft light reflected off their smooth surface, making them look like tiny, delicate gems.
Noticing Kai'Sa's curious gaze fixed on the box, Ezreal explained:
"Today's a special holiday, so they're giving out white chocolate as a gift."
"Chocolate?"
"Have you ever tried it before?" Ezreal asked with a hint of excitement.
The Daughter of the Void stared at the pale, ivory-colored candy, her expression showing slight confusion.
"What is chocolate?"
The Prodigal Explorer froze for a moment. Of course. Kai'Sa had spent her entire childhood living and fighting in the deepest Void-infested tunnels. How could she possibly know what something as simple as chocolate was? Great job, Ez. Minus one for being an idiot.
"It's a special kind of candy. Sweet and smooth. I think you'll like it."
Ezreal opened the box, allowing the gentle, sweet aroma to fill the air.
Kai'Sa hesitated before picking up a piece and slowly placing it in her mouth. The delicate flavor of cocoa, blended with soft vanilla notes, melted on her tongue, sending a warmth through her chest — a fleeting glimpse of a world filled with peace and comfort, one she had never known.
"…Strange," she murmured.
Ezreal chuckled. "Strange, but good, right? I told you, I have an excellent taste."
Kai'Sa shot him a subtle glance, raising an eyebrow.
"So now you're claiming to be a culinary expert too?"
"Of course. I'm Ezreal, the amazing explorer and adventurer, after all. Is there anything I'm not good at?" The blonde smirked proudly.
With that, the explorer grabbed a piece, threw it up in the air, and expertly caught it in his mouth.
Kai'Sa shook her head, but couldn't hide the faint smile that tugged at her lips. Somehow, Ezreal's reckless confidence made her feel more at ease than ever before.
"So, what do you think?" He asked.
"Not bad. But why do you keep introducing me to all these strange things?"
Ezreal rested his chin on his hand, smiling mischievously.
"Because I want you to know that this world isn't just about fighting and surviving. There's so much beauty waiting for you to experience… and I want to be the one to explore it all with you."
Kai'Sa's eyes met his — those bright, shining blue eyes filled with sincerity. Her heart skipped a beat, but she quickly looked away to hide her emotions.
"…Then, I would like another piece," the huntress said, trying to sound calm.
Ezreal chuckled and gently slid the box toward her. "You're a fast learner."
Kai'Sa picked up another truffle, but this time, their fingers accidentally brushed against each other. A subtle warmth spread through her hand. She instinctively tried to pull away, but to her surprise, Ezreal was quicker. He gently held her hand.
"You know," he said softly, "I've discovered things… sweeter than white chocolate."
Kai'Sa felt her cheeks heat up, but this time, she didn't want to run from the feeling.
"Then… I'll slowly learn how to taste them," she whispered.
Ezreal smiled again, feeling his heart melt faster than the chocolate on her tongue.
