Prologue: A new adventure.
"Greetings traveler. Welcome to Farhaven. As a matter of procedure, I have to ask what weapons you are carrying."
Wait what? What's going on My name is Ivy Potter. Daughter of Lilly and James Potter. I have just finished most of my OWLS examinations for my fifth year of schooling at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The last thing I knew I was trying to rescue Sirius from the Department of Mysteries. How did I end up here, and what does this guard mean by weapons?
Searching my pockets I can't find my wand. "I don't have any," I say to the guard. "I prefer to depend on magic."
The guard nods. "So long as you can defend yourself."
I raise 1 eyebrow. "Are you saying I'm not safe here?"
The guard makes a calming gesture. "There's no need to be alarmed. Well actually, I suppose there is. Lately this area hasn't been very safe." The guard shrugs. "We do what we can, but every now and then something... Lookout!"
I turned to look at the gate the guard had just led me through. It was still a jar, and 2 wolves lept through the opening.
As the guard reaches for his sword, he looks over at me. "Ready those spells traveler! We can't let them enter the city!"
Searching deep inside I discover a few spells I hadn't learned at Hogwarts. "They won't get past me."
Focusing on the 2 spells that appeared in my mind, I seemed to tap 1 called "Firebolt". After doing so an image of the wolves appeared in front of me. Shrugging to myself I tapped the 1 on the left. A red bolt of energy launches out of my left hand and burns the wolf on the left. To my surprise, the number 18 appeared above the wolf for a few seconds. I wonder what that means.
To my surprise, even after launching that attack, no one moved. Deciding to compare spells, I mentally reached out, and tapped "Ice spike". Again I needed to choose a target, and so I tapped the same wolf I had just attacked.
This time before my attack could be launched 1 of the wolves attacked the guard. For some reason when the wolf bit the guard a number 3 appeared next to the guard. The numbers 104/107 appeared over the guard's head.
In response, the guard slashes the wolf. This time the number 21 appears over the wolf's head.
After the guard countered the first wolf, the second wolf attacked him. Again the number 3 appeared next to the guard, and the numbers 101/107 appeared over the guard's head.
This time instead of countering the wolf's attack the guard took a defensive stance in front of me.
Finally, I launched a spike of ice at the wolf I had attacked earlier. The number 16 appeared above the wolf's head. Based on what I saw it looked like fire was a better choice here.
Not pausing I tapped the "Firebolt" spell and selected the wolf that was nearly down.
Before I could cast my spell the wolf that both I and the guard had damaged attacked the guard again. This time the number 4 appeared next to the guard, and the numbers 97/107 appeared above the guard's head.
The second wolf, which to this point had received no damage, tried to attack me. Thankfully it missed.
Finally, I launched my "Firebolt" at the near-death wolf. As the bolt hit the wolf the number 18 appeared above the wolf's head. With a soft wine, the wolf dropped to the ground and lay still.
Not allowing myself to worry about it I tapped the "Firebolt" spell and selected the only wolf standing.
Before I could launch my attack at the wolf, the guard slashed at the wolf with his sword. It connected causing a 27 to appear above the wolf's head.
immediately I launched my spell at the wolf. When it hit a number 20 appeared above the wolf's head. Knowing the wolf was weakened I prepared 1 last "Firebolt" spell.
However, before I could cast the wolf attacked me. The guard blocked the attack with his own body causing a number 4 to appear next to the guard and the number 93/107 to appear above the guard's head.
At once the guard countered causing a number 21 to appear above the wolf's head. Not content with this however the guard attacks the wolf with his sword, causing a 27 to appear above the wolf's head just before it drops to the ground dead.
In the corner of my eye,
I spot a bar as it slightly increases.
As I relax the guard puts his sword away.
"Well fought stranger. Those beasts won't be bothering anyone now."
I snort as I look around. "Well, that's 1 way to welcome newcomers to your town."
The guard frowns. "To be honest, I'm not sure how much longer we can hold out. The city's been under almost constant attack for weeks now. We don't know why, or where the attacks are coming from. We do what we can to hold the line, but we're spread so thin."
"If only someone could just find out what's causing the attacks, and put a stop to it." The guard's voice trails off, and he gives me an excited look. "Say you're a pretty capable fighter. Maybe you can help."
I blinked in surprise. I hadn't planned on getting involved in whatever was going on in this town. After all, I needed to find my way back to the others. However, as Hermione had once said, I have a saving people thing. I couldn't just leave these people to suffer. "I'd be happy to do what I can."
The guard smiles. "You should speak with lord Adrianus. I'm sure he'll want to know you're helping us."
I blinked again. "Where can I find lord Adrianus?"
The guard points northwest. "He's probably in his manner. In the northwest part of town. It's the large building past the fountain, on your left."
The guard moves to leave. "Now, I need to return to my patrol. Good fortune go with you, friend."

An: and that's the end of the prologue. I know I have stories still waiting for me to work on, but I needed a change of style. This story is based on the audio game "A Hero's Call" Yes Ivy Potter is a fem Harry, and this takes place during the Sirius rescue from book 5. For those that have played the game take note that I will not be going out of my way to find all quests, but instead will be having Ivy and her party complete any quests they come across. I won't be describing the fights that the party gets into unless it is an important 1.
As always if you have a comment or questions leave me a review, or send me a PM. I hope you are enjoying the story, and I'll see you all next time.
