Chapter 32

"Hey," Fin said as he approached Detective Klass. Unsurprisingly, she was at the vet's office, waiting for an update on Betty, in the waiting room. Scott was with her and Carol had just stepped out for some fresh air.

"Sergeant, thanks for swinging by," Klass gave him a smile.

"Of course. How's Betty?" Fin wanted to know as he sat down on the dark red wipeable vinyl bench seating.

"She made it through the night. She lost a lot of blood so the vet and the nurses are keeping a close on her. She's vulnerable to infection and they can't have her ripping open her stitches," Klass explained.

"How's Rollins and Bruno?" Scott asked.

"IAB isn't going to have much of a leg to stand on. Forensics and Melinda couldn't determine which shot killed him so I suspect things will move forward," Fin told him. Scott nodded and gave him a smile.

"What about the apartment?" Klass spoke up.

"Forensics cleared it. TARU removed all the cameras. We've got a cleaning company coming in to get rid of the mess. Velasco is going to be with them to make sure that they get everything and to speak with your landlord," Fin hoped that gave her some comfort.

"There's a conversation that I do not wish on anyone. I don't see how he'll still want me in the building," Klass put her head in her hands.

We'll see how that all shakes loose. Do you need anything from the apartment?" Fin wondered.

"I need to swing by and get a few things," she nodded.

"When is the cleaning company coming in?" Scott asked.

"In about an hour," the Sergeant said.

"Ok, why don't I swing by your apartment and you and Carol can go get some lunch huh? You can't help Betty out here anyway," Scott offered.

"I should go see Akiko too," Klass said.

"The Captain is going to see her after her meeting with the DA. You go ahead and see Betty and then get some food in you. You can go see Akiko for dinner," Fin tried to give her a nudge.

"You're right. I have to get off my ass. It's just been…" she paused.

"If it wasn't a lot, then I don't know what you call it. You're hanging in there. You've got friends and family to help," Scott kissed her temple.

"I am lucky indeed," Klass gave him a smile before they all heard her name being called. She almost shot off the bench like a rocket and headed to the reception desk.

"How are you doing?" Fin asked Scott.

"I'll be fine when she's fine," the New Jersey State Trooper told him.

"NYPD is always hiring," Fin gave him a wink before standing and heading out of the veterinary office. He quickly spoke to Carol, who gave him a smile and thanked him for all the help the unit had been. Fin promised to pass that along before answering his cell phone.

"Hey Stabler, you guys find anything?" The Sergeant asked.

"Oh, we found something. The forensics team is moving to the lab," the detective said.

"Where was Dylan stashing it?" Fin was thoroughly confused as the halfway house had no closets, just hooks and a dresser.

"Under the bed. You have to see this," Elliot told him.

"I'll head down to the lab," Fin said before hanging up and heading for his car. He had no idea what they could have possibly found but it certainly wasn't good.
