CHAPTER 247

Hours passed, and night fell over Isla Sorna. Daniel stood at the window looking out over the air field. His eyes had adjusted to the darkness, and the moonlight was enough for him to see by. Dr. Conners was still at the door to the hanger, keeping an eye on the rear exit. He was wearing a pair of night vision goggles that he had acquired from the gun locker to see through the pitched blackness of the large room.

Dr. Johnson and Kyra were sitting on the floor and leaning against the base of the couch. Both of them were attempting to sleep, though neither could, so they just stared out the window. Seth was on the couch still laying unconscious. Dianna had taken to listening to his breathing, not so much because she was concerned, but it was something to do.

Behind the desk Ms. Murdock sat in the office chair ever so slowly rocking back and forth in the dark. Her gun was in her lap, and the bottle was on the desk. The vessel was empty now and catching what little moonlight reached it with a dull glint. Joan hadn't taken her eyes off the back of Daniel's head from the time he first got up to stand watch. He could feel her eyes burning at the rear of his skull, but he did not show any signs that it was phasing him.

As Dianna continued to stare out the window she saw that Daniel's silhouette had changed. His head was turned. He was looking at her but not exactly. His chin was a little higher, and she realized he was actually looking past her. Dianna then noticed that her son's ambient breath was no longer present. She turned around with alarm and saw that Seth was sitting up in the dark.
