"I won't let you down," Darcy promised. He had been getting lessons for several hours a day from the royal steward, learning the royal protocols, as well as polishing his French from what was considered good for a member of the English gentry to what was adequate for diplomatic gatherings, and learning enough of the local vernacular to be considered more than an outsider.
"Outside of public appearances, though, I would rather… keep things friendly?"
