A/N: My second story! Which means I'm new and I'm pretty sure there will be a ton of mistakes. I never planned on writing any fanfiction but I'm having fun so yeah I'm going to do another one. I apologize in advance. I know a lot of people are very particular, especially since Harry Potter is a very well known fandom so I hope I don't disappoint or completely destroy a character or get facts from the books/movies wrong. I'm actually terrified right now lol. Another, thing English isn't my first language so bear with me. I will try my best I promise. I hope you'll at least enjoy the story. :)
I couldn't believe it. I entered the great hall deep in thought. This is simply outrageous! What would mother say? I'm not even sure what I did to be called such a term. I'm probably the most unproblematic Slytherin there is.
"What word would you use to describe me?" I asked my brother as soon as I sat down opposite from him. I haven't done anything close of iniquity. What in the world made them think I even deserve such an insult?
"Whatever do you mean, dear sister?" Evan replied with slight annoyance in his tone.
"I heard some students was rather blunt on calling me a cold hearted bi-"
"Really!? Just cause you're stiffer than a tree?" he thought for a moment. "Stiff… well that about sums it up" He said with a smirk which made me frown.
"I'm sorry?" Surely my own brother would be able to come up with a better answer. Though l am thankful my brother knows me well enough to stop me from saying things I'm not really comfortable with.
"Fin, you're the most well-mannered, quiet, proper, elegant, stiff-"
"I believe what your dim-witted brother is trying to say is you just often come off as… unfeeling" Adeline tried to explain. She gave me smile before scowling at my brother.
"Ironically that doesn't make me feel better, does it? " I replied.
"Dim-witted? Really Adeline? " My brother said to her in his usual calm yet heavily sarcastic voice before turning to me.
"You shouldn't let low lives affect you this much Fin"
"How are you so sure they're low lives dear brother?"
"If they insult my sister in such a way, they simply are" He looked at me with a blank expression. However, I knew better. My brother and I aren't the best a showing affection, but somehow there was an unspoken promise between the two of us that meant we'll always have each others back.
"See, this is why people think you're unfeeling. If you asked me I'd say cold would be the word I'd use to describe you" I heard Narcissa Black's voice before I saw her sit down beside me. I simply made a questioning look in response to her answer.
"Fin, I'm sure only a few people has seen you smile. When you're happy your face barely changes, and you're only happy when you finish a month's worth of homework in advance and get good grades or when you win an argument " She paused to put down her things and place food on her plate. She then proceeded to explain.
"And when you do smile it's miniscule "
My brother and Adeline released a few chuckles while Narcissa looked proud of her speech. I almost smiled then and there.
"And you couldn't even chuckle for that, I rest my case" The blonde haired girl smiled at me.
"She's not wrong" A male voice from another part of the table commented. Which I guessed was Lucius Malfoy, who was seated a few spaces from Evan. Of course he would agree with her. A match made in heaven those two.
"You're lucky I value your friendship" I turned back to Narcissa.
"Indeed I am" She brushed me off.
Narcissa and I have known each other since we were in diapers. Most of us purebloods do. However, finding sensible friends amongst them has been proven to be quite difficult. You're lucky If they were not obsessed with blood purity, jerks, or unreasonable dolts…I have to apologize for letting my emotions get the best of me, but you get the idea. As you may have guessed I got lucky enough to have Narcissa and Adeline. My brother had his friends as well, which is composed mostly of pureblood heirs. My brother always goes along with them but unlike most, he almost always manages to stay out of trouble by making sure nothing leads back to him. I am not that aware of whatever he is doing but I'm quite sure his intelligence is enough for me to not worry.
"Arcane" I heard another voice say. I was going to ignore it until I heard Narcissa.
"Did you say something, dear cousin?"
I looked at the boy she was talking to and met his eyes whilst he repeated what he said,
"Arcane"
"What do you mean Regulus? " Adeline was the one to ask.
He was about to reply when I beat him to it.
"Secret, mysterious, understood only by a few.. " I chuckled lightly, earning a lot of bewildered looks, before turning to the boy with a blank stare.
"I'll gladly take that as a compliment, Thank you Regulus" I began to stand and gestured to Adeline.
"Come on, we've got Potions after lunch" I moved towards the doors and briefly heard Adeline muttering something. I was certain I heard her eye roll.
"She always gets in 30 minutes early. Merlin help me"
