Chapter 4: Bring the house down

So, three devils and devilish human walk into a church, the start of a very bad joke, if only it really was. Issei had done exactly as expected of Rias, he ignored her and went to ask for help to Asia back. Koneko and Yuuto obliged, something William found a little odd, but then again here he was. He didn't even have to go far, Issei found him rather quickly with the other two in tow. He didn't let the Japanese teen finish his question before he gave confirmation about helping. And now here they were, standing in front of an old abandoned church.

"Remember what I told you to do."

Shaking his head, William faced his fellows. "So, what's the plan?"

Yuuto and Koneko looked to Issei, who suddenly found incredible interest in looking at his shoes. His attempts to act like he didn't know or expecting someone else to speak up quickly faltered and he hung his head in defeat. "I uh don't know? We just go in bust up the fallen angels, grab Asia...and get out?"

*SMACK*

The quick hit on the back of Issei's head had his ears ringing slightly. William rubbed his palm but otherwise looked unbothered. "Alright, do we have any sort of intelligence on our enemy?"

Yuuto raised his hand up to his chin. "We know Raynare and likely Freed are in there.

In a monotone Koneko added on, "Issei was attacked by another fallen the day after he was turned and again when he first went to meet a client. Could be her allies."

Taking in the information William pondered on what the four of them could do. In all sense they were out classed, the fallen had access to holy power that was lethal to devils so even with their numbers being possibly matched, they were still at a disadvantage. Even with him not being affected by holy power that much, he could still be wounded and possibly killed. His regeneration wasn't instant and he didn't wish to test the limits without the possibility of outside help. There was also the lack of skill factor, so far, he and Issei just kind of did things, they had no training and no really heavy hits. Hell, he didn't even have the faintest clue what his power from his Sacred Gear even was. And to make matters worse he was listening to a voice in his head on these matters, and said voice spoke to him absolute disdain.

"So, the four of us vs the four possibly more of them..." William said aloud to the group, hoping that perhaps Yuuto and Koneko would be able to offer some aid in strategy. When they said nothing, he tapped his chin and began to pace. "Probably expecting us to come around the back, and I would wager that they even got the air covered..."

"Sacred Gear." Issei's whole left arm was covered by his red gauntlet as he pumped himself up. "Then we go through the front door."

Yuuto grabbed his shoulder just as he was about to charge forward. "Woah, hold on a minute. We need to think this through."

"We need to save Asia."

William touched Issei's arm in comfort. "We will but charging in without a plan can guarantee we die trying."

The brown-haired teen looked a little defeated, though his desire to save his friend still burned in his eyes. "Then we need to get moving. The longer it ta-"

"GOTCHAAA!"

The four students dove for safety as a few shots of holy energy rained down from the trees behind them. A figure leapt out of said trees, his light blade ready to strike. William grabbed hold of Koneko's hand pulled her with him as he jumped away from the figure slashing at them.

"OOOOH talk about boring! I was wondering if you filthy heathens would ever show up." The familiar white-haired priest cackled as he pointed his weapons at the devils surround him. "Seriously how rude of you to make me wait and then to be edging me by taking your time to come in! You harlots!"

Issei's glared held nothing but venom for the priest "Where's Asia you bastard?!"

Freed practically glowed with joy upon hearing that name. "Here for Lil'Asia-tan are you? That little nun is just so irresistible, isn't she? I last saw her in this little one piece dress and gettin' chained to the cross like she was our Lord and Savior himself." He then hugged himself even as Issie began to grind his teeth. "OH I wanted to have a little taste before the ritual started but Raynare-sama would gut me like a fish if I even touched her."

William felt the electric energy build inside of him. "You sick fuck."

The sadistic priest seemed to blush even harder. "Don't look at me with those eyes, I won't be able to contain myself." His tongue fell out of his mouth as his body bent in a strange way. "Maybe once they're done Raynare-sama will like cut up and play with the corpse when she's done. A little reward for all my hard-"

Gold arcs of lightning connected with Freed sending him spiraling him into the ground. The pain flooding his body even as the lightning ended, only to feel his face being struck over and over. "WRAAAAAAHHHHHH!" Issei slammed his fist down over and over again, all his feelings of rage directed at the priest from their previous encounter combined with his use of language when talking about Asia.

Yuuto walked over calmly placed a hand on Issei's shoulder after a while. "Issei that's enough."

The brown-haired teen landed one last punch hearing a satisfying crunch as Freed's nose bent the wrong way. Getting off the priest he kicked the unconscious man once more for good measure. Facing his peerage mates his head dropped in shame. "Sorry everyone, I uh lost control."

Surprisingly it was Koneko that spoke first as she shook her head. "No need to apologize senpai. He's a pervert and dangerous."

"C'mon let's get inside." William ordered as the group moved to enter the church.

The Church

While the rest of the Gremory peerage felt an unsettling feeling that came over them upon entering the church, William merely felt a small itch at the back of his head. The group looked around the run-down interior, benched and walls were splintered and covered in dust. Mold ground in the corners, the edges of the walls, a musty stench permeated throughout the building and everything seemed slightly damp. Perhaps to fit thematically the big cross handing on the wall was missing the bottom part.

"Fallen angels hanging out in a rundown church." William laughed like someone just told him a joke.

Issei even chimed in though he was feeling overwhelmed. "You'd think they would choose something a little more glamorous or appealing for themselves to work out of."

Looking around and sniffing for any threats, Koneko commented. "Senpai, we operate from a room inside an abandoned part of the school."

The two males looked at each other with a look that said, "Ah right". A sharp whistle cut through the tension causing the three to look. Seeing Yuuto standing by a back door he held open. Looking through they saw a set of stairs leading down to possibility a basement. Yuuto's serious face held a slight grin. "Might be where we need to go."

"Think Asia is down there." Issei asked running up next to him.

"I would say so." Looking around the church Yuuto thought about the situation. "Best bet, yes. That exorcist said they were performing a ritual on her. Likely they want to be uninterrupted and need space for it. Basement would be ideal."

His hairs standing on end, William jerked his head to the door. "Better get down there then. Who knows how long the fallen have even been at it."

"Long enough that you don't have a chance."

The devils and human looked up to see three figures floating about them. One of the figures landed on the banisters causing it to creak. An adult woman clearly of mature age, wearing a partially open trench coat that revealed her amble bosom and her long navy-blue hair coming down her back. One the opposite was a young girl, most likely similar in age to Koneko. She was dressed in lolita style and her blonde hair styled in two short ponytails. The last person floating in between them was a tall man wearing a fedora on his head and a trench coat over his body.

"Oh shit." William glared at the fallen.

Mittelt, the young girl laughed in a haughty manner. "They think they can stop us? Once Raynare is done we'll be untouchable and we can eradicate this pathetic bunch."

Dohnaseek's eyes landed on Issei and he grinned menacingly. "Ah little devil come to seek death despite my warning to your master?"

Issei took a step back at remembering his encounter with the male fallen.

Kalawarner however narrowed her eyes at William. "Who is that? He's not even a devil, I can't detect any trace of devil power from him."

William took advantage of the confusion, pushing Issei through door and closed it. "Get the girl, we'll handle this."

Dohnaseek laughed tilting his fedora. "Oh really? Three devils and weak human against us? This will be fun."

Yuuto pulled out a sword blocking a Spear of Light that was thrown at him by Kalawarner. Her nose might as well have been pointed up high with how she was looking down on them. "You have no chance."

Koneko jumped along with Yuuto as more spears rained down on them. He was using his sword to parry while Koneko chucked a bench through a window. The two devils proceeded to go through with Kalawarner and Mittelt following them.

"Just you and me now." William smirked as Dohnaseek came down at high speed with a Spear of Light ready for a stab. Gold electricity surged through the teen but he didn't let it out, rather he focused on the area around him. "AH!" A pulse of golden energy was sent out just as the fallen angel reached him. The benches, debris, and even the fallen suddenly began floating.

"What the-" Dohnaseek panicked upon finding his movement disrupted by the change in the area. Looking around he saw that including himself was floating. "Your mere tricks won't help you." His attempts to fly down were met with resistance and he wasn't able to fly as fast as he wanted.

*ZAP* Gold lightning struck the fallen in his chest, his body convulsing and adding to the disorientation he was already dealing with. William let another burst of lightning fly this time sending a current through his enemy's wings. Despite the pain, Dohnaseek manages to throw his spear. The weapon made of pure holy energy hits its mark, burying itself within William's leg just below his knees. The pain is immediate and for a split-second he stops the stream of lightning.

For Dohnaseek's part he summons a series of Spears of Light sending them to rain up on his foe. Thinking fast, William dives and does another pulse of golden energy; the spears suddenly fall slower allowing him to dodge them with easier timing. A few still manage to him, slicing through his left arm and down his back, nothing his healing can't fix but the hole in his leg was an issue during that time. Lightning surged to his arm, but instead of unleashing another arc William decided to try something creative. Having his hand grasp around the air as the gold energy encompassed it, the lightning settled in his grip before elongating horizontally taking on the similar shape as the Spears of Light. Dohnaseek was stunned to see the devil before him essentially copy the signature weapon of fallen and regular angels. His pause was short lived when said devil threw the spear, *SNIK, unfortunately the fallen wasn't able to react quick enough and found himself falling to the ground. A constant stinging feeling coursing through his body, with the Lightning Spear being lodged into his left wing.

"You little nat, how d-d-d-dare you?!"Dohnaseek managed to speak despite the electrocution happening.

William couldn't help but allow a smirk of satisfaction take over his face. "What's wrong? I imagine this must be embarrassing for you."

To his credit, the fallen didn't let his foe see any weakness, instead he focused on conjuring another light weapon discreetly. "Flithy devil, don't think you've won."

"Why not, seems like I've got you down for the count." Letting some sparks dance on his being William looked to the window where the others were fighting.

This act allowed for Dohnaseek to throw his light knife, as well as bring himself to his feet. William unprepared felt the light weapon pierce cut his cheek and before he could retaliate, he felt the weight of his enemy barrel into him sending them both out a window of the church.

Meanwhile

Issei was making his way into the basement of the church as quickly as he could as all light started to fade the further down he went as if sucked in by some ominous force. He started using the wall for support in case he tripped while making his way new [Pawn] couldn't help but feel a pit grow in the center of his stomach as fear started taking root. What was going to happen when he reached the bottom of the stairs? How would he deal with the woman that had tricked and killed him? What was all this crap about a ceremony and what did it have to do with Asia? Was Asia okay? Were the rest of his team going to be, okay?

These thoughts raced through Issei's head over and over...until he spotted a faint shimmering light at the end of the staircase. Walking into the room and his eyes widened in shock. On the opposite side of the room, there was a large cross placed against the wall with a beautiful young blonde girl in a short white dress hanging from it wrapped in chains. Between them was more than a dozen men in robes with their hands clasped together in prayer and a Light Sword attached to their hips. And standing right beside the cross, looking up at it as Asia let out a pained moan...

Was the girl he once called his girlfriend. In the same clothes she wore on their first and last date together. Raynare, the Fallen Angel.

Issei yelled, "Asia!"

Some of the priests went silent as Issei's yell reverberated through the room. Raynare blinked in surprise before looking at the back of the room as Asia noticed someone yell her name.

She weakly lifted her head and saw the man standing at the end of the crowd, her eyes widening in shock as a warm sensation spread through her chest. A tear of joy trailed down her cheek as she smiled and whimpered, "I-Issei-San."

Raynare sighed, exasperated by Issei's arrival once again ruining the moment. She looked up at him lazily, "Are you serious? Gee-how many times do I have to kill you before the lesson starts to stick?"

Issei looked to the black-haired beauty, "Yuuma-no..." He glared at her, "Raynare...let Asia go! Or else I'm going to take her from you by force!"

Raynare raised an eyebrow at his exclamation before she let out a small giggle. She looked at the Devil, "Woah, you really fell head-over-heels for her, didn't you? Geez Issei-kun, I might start feeling jealous if you keep hurting my feelings like this." She lowered her arms to her side and nodded, "Okay you can have her..."

A light started to shine from Asia's chest and illuminate the entire room...

Raynare smiled, "The ceremony is over anyway."

Asia's body went rigid and she threw her head back as tears formed in her eyes, "AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"

"Asia!" Issei yelled in panic as he heard his friend's desperate scream of agonizing pain. He charged forward in an attempt to get to Asia but had to jump back as a Light Sword swiped at his neck.

Issei growled and activated his Promotion to [Queen]. He felt a surge of power build up inside him before he dashed forward and punched a priest across the face. He dodged and smacked another priest away before several more filled their place. As Issei tried to fight his way forward, Asia's screams continued and became more dreadful with each passing second. Her back was arched in pain as a green light glowed against the skin of her chest. Issei tried to make his way towards his friend but was blocked off by several priests pushing him back. The little game of strength continued for a few moments until the light from Asia grew as bright as possible...

And a beautiful green light floated out of Aisa's chest.

The room went silent as Asia's screams died out and she was frozen for a moment. But then her back went slack and the light faded from her eyes as the green ball floated down into Raynare's open hands. She placed it against her chest and looked like she struggled for a moment before it disappeared and two green sparkles appeared on her ears. A look of triumph etched across her face.

The Fallen Angel smiled at her success and gently touched her prize. She chuckled, "Finally. We can win."

Issei looked on in horror as Raynare disappeared in a flurry of black feathers and Asia's eyes slowly started to close. He felt something snap as he gritted his teeth until he tasted blood-

"ASSSSSIIIIIIAAAAAAAAAAA!"

Standing back-to-back with Yuuto, William readied a Lightning Spear as the fallen flew around them. The two men using their weapons to block incoming holy attacks. Occasionally the latter threw his spear with either no or little success. For Yuuto his frustration at being pinned without an opening to close space was beginning to show.

Dohnaseek created a series of spears and tossed them at William, forcing the two devils to move from their position. "Not so confident now?! Your abilities make no difference against us." He cackled, another spear forming his hands. "Like a pitiful lamb before the slaughter."

Diving from the attack William hid behind a tree, gripping his right arm as blood trickled down it. The cuts and gashes from fighting were painful and though he healed, the pain was something he wasn't getting used to. Creating another spear of his own, he stabbed it into the tree though it didn't disappear after the fact. "To be fair, you can fly. How about you come down and fight me like a man!"

Scoffing the fallen dove at full speed at the tree, creating a rather large spear this time. As he rounded on the tree, he saw no one there, but instead one of spears made of lightning imbedded in the tree. "Wha-"

Almost immediately a stream of lightning struck the spear, creating an unstable current that expanded a bit before collapsing in on itself and then *BOOM*. The explosion sent Dohnaseek back, his body convulsing with the electricity. As he landed William launched himself from the branches, stabbing a Lightning Spear down into one of the wings of his foe. Not slowing down, he creating another and impaled the other wing.

Falling to his knees the American teen had right hand hover over Dohnaseek's face. "Now who's the lamb?"

The fallen couldn't form words due to the electricity running through him. Even attempting to smack the teen proved impossible. For William's part he simply added more charge to the spears, keeping them up for longer.

Feeling the wounds on his body close up and the uncomfortable itch spread all across his body, he allowed himself to collapse on his back. "FUCKING HELL! I need a root beer, a big juicy burger and the best piece of red velvet cake in the world. Or some Oreos, I'll take those too."

"You have quite the sweet tooth it seems."

Williams's ears perked up at the new voice and he maneuvered his head around to see who it was. Walking up behind him was a certain crimson-haired [King] and her ponytailed [Queen] keeping her trademark smile that gave him shivers. William looked up at them with a dry glare, "Lovely. Thanks for showing up just as everything finished, mission is over...almost"

Rias smiled, "Well sorry for showing up late. Unlike the rest of you I actually have to deal with the fallout of these actions." She then walked up beside him and got his attention, "I'm still a little confused about your request, but shouldn't you be inside in order to try it?"

William narrowed his eyes and avoided Rias' curious gaze. He grumbled, "The idiot is in the church to get the girl; we had to buy him time."

Akeno titled her head, a chuckle escaping her lips. "Awwww, the tin-man does have a heart. And here I thought you didn't like being around Issei."

William just sent a cold glare at the beautiful [Queen] as Rias walked over to the Fallen Angel. She nodded in surprise, "I have to say, I'm surprised you beat a Fallen Angel all by yourself." She looked over to the bald teen, "More of your tricks? Did you even use promotion?"

"Ah no..." William said as he suddenly found interest in the grass, "Totally didn't forget."

Rias and Akeno looked between each other in surprise before looking down at William. "Of course you did. That could have helped you greatly"

"Didn't we already discuss if I could even use it?" William rose to his knees and pointed at Dohnaseek. "Besides I got him in the end."

Akeno smiled, "Says the man who collapsed next to his foe."

"Bite me." William then threw a gesture over his shoulder, "There's this crazy ass exorcist we knocked out over there too. You should make sure he doesn't escape or anything."

"Where exactly?" Rias asked as she looked around. "We didn't see anyone else."

William looked behind him to see the unconscious priest had woken up and escaped while they weren't looking, "Of fucking course."

"Well, you still did a good job. Akeno..." Rias looked to her best friend, "Do you mind fixing our new [Pawn] up a little?"

"Of course, Buchou." Akeno said as she walked over to William's side and dropped to her knees before holding her hands over him, however he simple shook his head and stood up.

William patted his body down. "Don't worry, a few minutes and this healing factor of mine will sort me out."

Rias wanted to protest but instead she turned her attention to Dohnaseek, who seemed to pass out due to the shock. William noticing her gaze, questioned her. "What will you do with him?"

"Well...it's not unusual to kill one of our foes while they are unconscious or asleep." She looked over to the bald man and shrugged her shoulders, "But it leaves a bad taste in my mouth to kill someone who can't fight back. So we'll probably just capture him and interrogate him for information."

William thought that was fine. If the poor bastard was going to be forced into interrogation by a bunch of Devils, that might be worse than anything he could possibly imagine. "Hmm. Your decision, personally I wouldn't mind frying him. I've been stabbed more than I would like."

"Did it hurt?"

William looked over to see Akeno staring at him with a strange concentration. He looked at her in confusion, "Yes, stabbings hurt."

"I can't even imagine how it must have felt to get stabbed like that."

William was a little confused about why she was striking up this conversation. From his memory, they never really had much communication or a public relationship to build on. Now that he thought about it, he hadn't really discussed much with Rias or Akeno, whether together or alone. He said, "I don't imagine that many people imagine getting stabbed-"

"The pure, unrivaled pain coursing through your body and the blood-curdling scream you must have unleashed as you felt his attack pierce through your skin. Come to think of it, this isn't your first time, is it?"

Okay, that was just a weird thing to say as they healed or you offered to heal them. William looked over at Akeno-

And was surprised to see the black-haired beauty with a deep blush and a heated look on her face. She looked up at him with strange arousal(?), "Ufufufu, just thinking about the pained look on your face is making me excited. And your healing makes so we can go again and again. Ara Ara, I so wish I could continue form where you left off~."

William had a horrified look on his face before he slow inched away from her. In almost comedic fashion he ran over to Rias, hidng behind her for safety. He grabbed her arm, "Oh mighty Devil please protect me. I think something's wrong with your friend. She's acting like she just wants to see me suffer like a fucking sadist. She probably wants to see my insides on the outside. And my healing will make this better for her."

"What are you talking about? She's not acting like a sadist." Rias faced him with a leveled smile, "She IS a sadist. 'The Ultimate Sadist' to be precise." She smiled pleasantly at the horrified American, "I didn't expect her to wait so long to realize your durability."

William stared at the shorter woman in horror before shaking his head, "Nope, never happening. And you don't get to offer me up."

"Who knows you might come around." She walked forward and placed her hands on her hips before looking at the teen, "Where's the rest of my peerage?"

Issei panted as he carried the unconscious, unresponsive blonde girl in his arms. He was beaten and a little bloody but he had still come out of that crowd of priests with enough strength to carry Asia back upstairs. The pervert looked around and saw the scorched concrete and broken glass as he felt a sense of dread fill his belly. The smell of ozone was strong, but there was no sign of his friends. The broken windows could have suggested they took the fight outside; he had to believe that. Believe in them.

Issei stumbled over to one of the only benches that wasn't mostly destroyed and laid Asia down on it. He got down on his knees and nervously started to look her over to check if she was hurt anywhere. There were no physical wounds but...Asia's face was losing color. And her breathing was becoming sporadic.

The green orb Raynare took out of her chest...it must have been her Sacred Gear, Twilight Healing. Issei didn't have any evidence but when he saw that orb, it felt the same as when he used his Sacred Gear. And if that really was her Sacred Gear...Raynare had just ripped out Asia's life force. A piece of her soul. Which meant a part of her was ripped out.

Asia submitted herself to such terrible pain and suffering just to save his and William's asss from getting killed. Issei swallowed the lump in his throat as he cupped Asia's cheek to try and get a response. He weakly muttered, "Asia?"

The blonde nun heard the panicked voice call her name and weakly opened her eyes halfway. She saw the Devil with brown hair and felt a sense of warmth fill in the cold feeling in her chest. She smiled as her hand slowly touched the hand on her cheek, "Issei...San...I knew it...I-I thought it was just a dream but...you really came..."

Issei gave a weak chuckle before he took her hand and squeezed, "Of course I did. I would never leave you just become some Fallen Angel pierced through my stomach like rice paper." He grinned, "That's what friends are for."

Asia looked up at him with a warm expression, "You...you really meant it...didn't you?...I'm really your friend..."

"Of course you are stupid. How couldn't I be friends with someone as great as you?" He squeezed her hand a little tighter and tried to get her attention off the cold sensation running through her body, "When I get you out of here, you and I can do a bunch of fun stuff together. There's some really funny and sweet movies I know you'd like! Oh, and we can go and eat together again. I know a place that has the best hamburgers and fries..."

Asia smiled, "Could...could we hangout like we did?...I'd like to try that with you again..."

"Um...sure...I mean I'm sure even William-senpai would like to see you. Actually he may know a better place for burgers and fries." He chuckled a little before shaking his head.

Asia struggled for a moment before a tear ran down her face, "I'd like that...I'm happy...we became friends..."

Issei's heart sank when he heard her tone crack and lower as she struggled to keep her voice. He closed his eyes and tried to compose himself before he looked into the blonde's emerald eyes, "I swear to you Asia, I'm going to get you out of here. And when I do, you can make as many friends as you possibly want. I know you will."

Asia looked at his firm and honest expression and felt a sense of relief wash over her. She nodded her head, "Thank you...Issei-San...but I don't think I'll need to..."

She smiled at him as two small tears came down her eyes, "I'm happy...knowing I was able to have someone like you as my first friend..."

Issei watched as Asia slowly closed her eyes and laid her head down. Her breathing slowly came to a stop and the strength returning Issei's grip faded until he was holding a limp hand.

Issei's eyes widened and he just stared at the blonde silently. He squeezed her hand, "A-Asia? Don't close your eyes. P-please wake up."

He didn't receive a response from the kind-hearted nun. Issei felt his eyes start to water as he struggled to keep himself stable. He leaned in and placed his forehead against hers as tears streamed down his face...

He whimpered out, "Don't go."

After he let out some soft sobs and realized that Asia really was gone, he grabbed her soft hands and placed them together over her chest. It wasn't a pleasant trip but at least she looked like she was in peace now in death.

And that's when it fully hit Issei about what had happened. Asia was gone.

She was dead.

She was an innocent, kind little girl that never thought about herself. She cared more for a dumb, perverted, weak little Devil she had met while he was staring at her panties in a park than she did her own life.

She was called a witch. A heretic. A traitor to the church just because she was born with a power she didn't ask for. And because the moment she followed the kindness in her heart and did something for herself, she was deemed an enemy of The Lord and his followers.

She was thrown out, tossed aside, and abandoned by everyone she had ever known. No one would accept her. But that never stopped her from doing what she thought was right. She still prayed to God. She still helped those in need. And she never held a grudge, even against those that had abandoned her. But no one cared. They took advantage of her like that. And now, a girl who had a heart bigger than a saint, was taken from this world because they didn't even need her anymore.

...

Why?

"It is tragic, I must admit."

Issei's ears perked up as he heard the familiar voice pierce the awful silence that had settled around him. A pair of large black wings flapped through the air as Raynare landed at the base of the altar, looking at the brown-haired Devil as he kneeled by the deceased nun.

Raynare looked around the church, "She was just a poor little girl, abandoned by her church and home and forced to travel alone through the world. Blessed with a power that could heal any form of life she touched." Raynare activated her stolen Sacred Gear and touched the green lights forming over her ears, "When I told her that all she needed to do was follow everything I said and she would be accepted by God once more, she didn't even argue. She was so desperate to be accepted by her so-called Lord and Savior."

Raynare looked down at the nun and actually had a look of pity come across her face, "I hope he has mercy on her. Or wherever she did end up. As a Fallen Angel, I could no longer grant her access to Heaven. But maybe The Lord will show her compassion and accept her into his kingdom."

Raynare looked at the slumped over Devil and started walking forward, "Now, there's the matter of what to do with you, Issei-kun. And not to mention that other little annoyance. This farce is over, and I've got what I want...but..." She formed a Spear of Light in hand and walked behind the shivering pervert, "I don't think I would be able to sleep at night knowing I let you get away for a third time."

Issei's shoulders were shaking as he heard her talk before, he lowly hissed out, "Why..."

Raynare heard his question and thought he was asking why she took Asia's Sacred Gear in the first place. She decided to indulge him, "I took her Sacred Gear because it was just what our side needed. This war was taking its toll and the injured were building up on all sides. Maybe, with Twilight Healing, I can stop our bloodshed from getting any worse. For Azazel-sama, when he sees me save our brothers and sisters, he will-"

Issei's red gauntlet dug into her cheek and cut her off before sending her flying down the aisle. Raynare slammed against the base of the altar before she fell to her hands and knees gasping for air. Tears went down her face in pain as she felt her cheek swell before Issei's hands clamped around her neck.

Issei screamed with tears going down his face, "WHY?! WHY DID YOU HAVE TO KILL ALL OF US?! ME?! WILLIAM-SENPAI?! ASIA?! WHAT DID WE DO TO DESERVE IT?! WHY DID WE HAVE TO DIE?!" He watched Raynare desperately grab at his hands as she tried to gasp for air. He continued, "IT WASN'T ENOUGH THAT YOU KILLED ME?! THAT YOU DESTROYED MY LIFE, BUT YOU HAD TO TAKE ASIA TOO?! FOR WHAT?! WHY DID SHE HAVE TO DIE FOR YOUR CAUSE?! TELL ME DAMMIT! TELL ME!"

Raynare swiped at his face and left bloody scratches over him, causing Issei to let go of her neck and stumble back while holding his face and screaming. Raynare gasped for air and wheezed before standing up and rubbing her throat, "Don't..." She kicked him in the stomach hard enough to cause him to throw up before beating him in the back of the head, "You ever touch me you filthy mongrel."

"I don't need a reason to hate you Devils." She kicked the downed man in the stomach as he groaned in pain. She flicked her hair back, "I've been raised since I could flap my wings to do whatever I could to kill Devils and Angels. It's the effect of when your race has been in endless war for centuries at a time." She stood over the coughing pervert, "I will do whatever I can for the benefit of my people."

"THEN WHY US?! WHY ME?!" Issei forced himself up and tripped Raynare's feet from under her. He then jumped her and pinned her shoulders to the ground as he looked directly into her startled eyes, "Do you know how happy I was when you asked me out? You think I'm not aware of what girls at school call me, but for someone like I thought you were to approach me. It made me feel like there was hope, that I could be myself and someone would still love me." He then lifted her shoulders and slammed her head against the ground, causing her to gasp in pain. Issei continued, "But then, YOU KILLED ME. You toyed with me, made me believe which is worse than if you had just killed me from the shadows."

"DON'T ACT LIKE YOU KNOW REAL SUFFERING!" Raynare responded as she punched him across the face and got him off of her. She pushed herself to her feet and stumbled a little before glaring at the Devil.

She stomped over to him and grabbed his hair as she started ferociously punching him in the face, "You think just because you lost some girl that you call a friend, that you could even begin to know pain! I'VE LOST HUNDREDS OF FRIENDS AND FAMILY TO THIS WAR!"

She punched him in the eye, "You pathetic humans cry about your lives and how unfair it is when most of you will never know true pain and suffering. All you take for granted and have the never to call me evil and selfish. I would sacrifice all of you to protect the ones I love, happily. This one little girl is just a drop in the bucket compared to the blood of my kin."

Raynare struck him one last time and looked at her handiwork. Issei's face was covered with blood, his eyes were swollen and his cheeks were cut from her brutal beating. She let go of his hair and let him fall on his face as she walked towards a bench to hold herself up. She cringed when she felt how painful her little wounds from the measly little Devil felt and reprimanded herself on her failure.

"I-I d-don't care a-about any of that."

Raynare's eyes widened as she looked back to see Issei struggle to push himself up again. Blood was dripping from his gums but he forced himself up on his shaking legs. He mumbled, "You may have suffered because of Devils. And you may go as far as you want for your cause." Issei clenched his left fist as it started to shake, "But I won't let you hurt innocent people anymore. Not like me! Not William-senpai! And not like Asia!"

His gauntlet cracked and broke apart, revealing a leaner, more stylish red gauntlet with a green crystal over his hand. Raynare stared at it in disbelief, "The B-Boosted Gear?!"

[BOOST]

Issei glared up at her as his body was filled with power and he ran forward. He pulled back his fist, "THIS IS FOR ASIA!"

Raynare tried to protect herself but Issei's fist dug into her face and sent her flying upwards. She impacted against the large cross mounted on the altar and broke it in half. She fell back down to the floor as the cross came crumbling apart over her. The dust settled and Issei stood there with an outstretched fist, beaten and bloody but victorious in his fight.

And only his fight.

Issei held himself up by placing a hand on the bench for support and started gasping for air. He looked to the side and saw Asia's motionless body, still peaceful and unharmed even after his vicious was a rumbling and Issei looked over to see Raynare pull herself out of the debris from the broken cross. She struggled as she pulled her legs out but couldn't summon any strength to fly away to safety. Issei saw her and glared...

"So, what are you going to do now? She wronged you, used you, and killed you. We would probably understand if you are holding a grudge."

Issei turned his head to see William, Rias, Akeno, Kiba, and Koneko all standing behind him as they looked at his tattered back. He knew they had probably already seen that Asia was gone and that this entire mission was a failure. But he still had something left to do. And it was currently trying to expand her Fallen Angel wings and escape.

"What are you talking about William-senpai? She killed you too, remember?"

"True, she killed me. And I'm pissed about that." William looked over to the deceased blonde nun and had a tinge of sadness in his face before looking at his fellow [Pawn], "But you have priority. I do have an idea though, but only you're okay with it."

"Issei. William." Rias joined the conversation as she stepped forward and addressed the young pervert, "You both don't have to worry anymore. If you want, just step back and I'll finish everything up." Her hand was engulfed by her Destruction and she said in a sad tone, "I swear to you both."

Issei's shoulders slumped and he thought about what to do. Until-

"P-please, Issei-kun..." The Occult Research Club looked over at the defeated Fallen Angel as she struggled to pull herself up to her knees. She cowered a little and tears formed in the corners of her eyes as she looked up at the Devil whose life she had destroyed, "I-I know you are better than this. Just-just let me go. Please, s-show mercy."

Issei's eyes widened as he felt something break in his mind. And William nearly lunged at her.

"Mercy?" Issei growled as if the very mention of the word was venom on his tongue. He turned and faced the Fallen Angel as he looked down on her with fire in his eyes, "You want mercy? Did you ever show anyone mercy before you killed them?" He gripped his chest where he still felt the burning sensation of her spear, "Did you show mercy when you killed me and William-senpai? You taunted us!"

"I-I just-"

"WHAT ABOUT ASIA?!" Issei yelled as hot tears streamed down his face and he pointed to the deceased nun, "WHERE WAS HER MERCY?! SHE WAS THE KINDEST, MOST CARING PERSON I'VE EVER MET! SHE DIDN'T CARE IF YOU WERE A HUMAN, ANGEL, OR DEVIL! SHE BELIEVED EVERYONE DESERVED TO LIVE BECAUSE THAT WAS WHAT SHE WAS TAUGHT! SHE HADN'T DONE ANYTHING TO YOU!"

"I-I'm sorry-"

"William-senpai, what's your plan?" Shaking Issei didn't turn away from Rayanare.

Stepping forward William touched his fellow's shoulder. "Got an idea of a punishment fitting for her. I think I can strip of her all her power."

Rias raised an eyebrow at the declaration. "Truly?"

"Hey I can absorb a being power and life force, why not give it a shot. Worse case, she dies and we rid ourselves of this fallen." Shrugging William waited.

"Do it."

Everyone looked at Issei who gave his answer. The look in his eyes could probably kill and his target was obvious. Nodding, William crossed the distance over to Raynare who was still attempting her act. "Please don't hurt me or let any of them hurt me."

"I don't know about you, but I'm going to enjoy this."

Without words, William seized Raynare and began what he was told to do. A light orange energy flow began to go from her to him. Despite all her resistance, his strength kept her in place even as she kicked him. To her shock, her strength left her and her disguised dropped. She couldn't even activate Twilight Healing to recover as it seemed whatever the man was doing, prevented her using it. "LET ME GOOOOOO!"

For William's part, to say he was uncomfortable would be a massive understatement. He could feel Raynare, literally feel her very being flow into him. Her holy power, her life essence and even parts of Twilight Healing, though he tried to reject that. If he was succeeding, he had no idea. His body began to generate electricity around it, glowing brightly going from its standard gold to a bright yellow, as if effected by the holy power he was absorbing.

As the scene unfolded Rias couldn't help but feel a sense of discomfort, she had a member of her peerage, no matter how unofficial, being a big unknown that continued to become more and more of a mystery. Her initial thoughts about his Sacred Gear were diminishing due to the abilities he claimed and displayed. But perhaps the biggest things were his healing and his reaction or lack thereof when being hit with holy power. Even having the miniscule amount of devil energy in his soul shoulder have made it so holy powers were deadly to him, yet he took it all the same way Devil took hits from other weaponry. It bothered her that so far there was no answer, and no answer met that she had to rely on him telling her should he discover anything. Sharing didn't seem to be William's strong suit, the few conversations she had with him, only one was personal and even then, it was brief. Rias knew she needed to bring her [Pawn] further into the fold.

"Reverse the process...NOW! Then let go!"

Doing as he was told William ceased draining Raynare, who had stopped fighting back. With a new surge of strength, he forced his own power and essence into her being. The lightning arced and changed from the bright yellow back to the golden hue. For a brief moment his eyes flashed orange and he couldn't help but smile as he saw the fallen gain life back in her eyes, though she clearly was still in pain.

In Raynare's mind

Dark clouds enclosed around her, no matter where she tried to fly. The storm seemed to follow and block her path. Even when she tried to fly higher, it beat her to the top. She swore it was mocking her. Summoning a spear, she hurled the weapon into the clouds with an ear-splitting yell. The holy weapon passed harmlessly through the clouds, only for a bolt of lightning to strike her. Raynare was spiraling though she didn't descend, feeling her chest there was no mark of the hit. Not even the fuzzy feeling that one associated with being hit by lightning.

"Little crow you are in my domain. Do you think you have any authority or power here?" Whatever it was, it talked like it growled and hissed at the same time. The voice also seemed disjointed as if more than one individual was talking at a time.

But Raynare had no time to think on it, more lightning bolts struck her and she found herself unable to more. The clouds closed in and for a brief moment, she caught a glimpse. Golden scales, orange eyes filled with hate, teeth bigger than herself, and three heads. It was coming towards her, and she was entity's silhouette became visible as a series of lightning strikes in the clouds illuminated the creature. With a simple motion the creature came to a stop, making itself vertical as it spread its wings wide showing her even more just how small and insignificant she was compared to it.

"You will serve your new god well." Then it roared.

Back in the church

White hair filled his vision as his eyes slowly opened, seeing Koneko knelt down and appearing to wait for him to wake. William rolled over onto his pack bring his left hand up to his forehead, though he found that he was holding something. Opening his hand, he saw two silver rings with blue-green gems on each ring. "Okay that's odd." Struggling to get up, he saw everyone else was standing over him, apparently waiting for him to wake up. "Didn't go well?"

Rias couldn't help but smile and nodded her head. "You fool. Whatever you did created some sort of explosion and you were sent flying back. Both your bodies were sparking until a little while ago. She hasn't woken up yet." She looked at the Sacred Gear in his hand, "Never heard of anyone doing that before."

"Yeah well, I'm just winging it at this point." Leaning on the bench, he steadied himself. Reaching out Issei he offered the rings. "I believe these belong to her."

Issei took and held the Scared Gear of his deceased friend close to his chest like a lifeline and sobbed, "Senpai, I don't...I-"

"Rias could you bring her back? I don't know how this works so maybe it won't be enough?"

Rias walked over to Issei's side and hugged him closely as he sobbed, she rubbed his head to calm him down, "Issei, do you truly believe that nun would be happy if she was still alive."

He controlled himself before he looked up at his [King], "Of course I do. I would never have let her get hurt again. If I was stronger...if I was better...I would have protected Asia with my life."

He felt her hand grasp his shoulder and she smiled at him proudly, "Then she sounds like someone I can trust."

While Issei looked at her in confusion, she grabbed his hand and led him over to the peaceful nun. She took out a red chess piece and showed it to him, "If she is really so important to you, then I can't let someone like that leave before their time."

Rias gently took Asia's Sacred Gear from Issei's hands and held it with her [Bishop] piece. She placed them down on Asia's chest and closed her eyes before a large magic circle was created around them. Rias spoke an incantation and the entire church was flooded with red light. When the light died down, the [Evil Piece] and Twilight Healing were gone. Issei looked at Rias in shock before she smiled and motioned to the motionless nun. Issei kept his eyes on Asia...

The blonde nun's eyes fluttered a little before she woke up staring at the ceiling. She blinked in surprise before she lifted herself up and looked at her hands. She muttered, "What? I...I thought ...I..was..."

She looked up and saw a horribly beaten Issei looking down at her. She gasped, "I-Issei-San, what happened to you?! You look terrible!" Asia then blinked in surprise and looked at everyone that appeared around her before looking at the brown-haired Devil, "What happened?"

"Asia!" Issei yelled as he enveloped her in a big hug and almost smothered her.

William walked over to Rias' side and was confused at what he had just seen. He looked at her, "Are you sure that was a good idea?"

"I wouldn't use my last [Bishop] piece if I didn't think she deserved it. A kind girl with a healing Sacred Gear that got most of my peerage, to come risk their lives to save her?" She smirked, "How couldn't I have someone like that on my side?"

"Last bishop? So, we haven't met one still?"

Before they could celebrate or anyone could answer, the club heard a groan and saw the Fallen Angel woman lift herself up while rubbing her head and her other hand went to feeling around her neck. Akeno saw her and an edge was in her voice, "She's waking back up."

"Should probably check if your idea worked" Yuuto stated as he pulled out his blade and started walking over to her, "If not I can finish it."

As the blonde approached, Raynare looked up at him and jumped back in fear. She screamed, "Get the hell away from me!"

"Oh, shut it already!" Shouted William still shaking off the effects from what he did. What no one expected was a dark gold chain chocker to appear around Raynare's neck, with the same-colored chain connecting to William's hand. "Oh?"

Raynare tried to speak, but the result was the choker glowed a small shock was felt throughout her body. Everyone looked at him with an accusatory look.

Akeno smiled even though her eyes and voice conveyed a sense of disapproval. "Oh my I didn't think you would do such a thing to a girl."

"Okay firstly: No, fuck no. I'm not into that shit." William denied throwing the chain to the ground. "Second: I wasn't trying to do this."

Rias looked between the two and closed her eyes, she tried to sense Raynare at all in the sense of a Devil sensing a Fallen Angel. Her brow furrowed as she couldn't sense anything more than the girl being in the room with them. That tainted yet holy presence wasn't anywhere to be found. Yet as she opened her eyes, one could clearly see that Raynare still had her wings. "You succeeded though."

"I did?" Asked William looking Raynare over as one would a car.

Yuuto dismissed his sword. "What did he do Bucho?"

A shrug her response, "I'm not sure. William clearly robbed her of her power, yet she still has her wings. And the chain and choker, I don't even know where to begin."

Issei asked, "What does that mean?"

"Issei..." Rias said as she looked at her [Pawn], "I think somehow William rendered her passive even if she doesn't look it. And now she is subservient."

"Is that possible?" Koneko asked, eyeing William with cautious and disgust.

"Would everyone quit looking at me like I'm this guy." William pointed at Issei for effect causing the brown-haired teen to stammer in shock.

Rias thought, "It could be. There's never been a recorded circumstance like this, unless...Is this an ability of your Sacred Gear?"

William rubbed his head in a bashful sense. "I got no more clues than you. Like I suggested before when it was just draining her of her power: I just had a feeling of trying it out. What I can and can't do seems to be a matter of trial and error."

The group was silent as all that could be heard was the whimpers of fear and curses out of anger from Raynare as she touched her injured body. Kiba had a dark look in his eyes, "So what do we do with her now?"

"DON'T TALK ABOUT ME LIKE I'M SOME TOY YOU ARE GONNA PASS AROUND!" The person in question hollered at them.

Koneko wanted the situation over. "Do we finish her. Seems like she'll still be trouble.

"Very true, but I say we follow through with my plan. It worked and besides," William interrupted as he picked up the chain and offered it to Issei "If you're still feeling petty and vengeful. Go nuts."

Whether fortunate or unfortunate the chain simply phased through Issei's hand as if it wasn't even there, the clang from hitting the floor echoing in the church.

Akeno smiled her amusement practically beaming from her eyes. "Seems you will have to take care of her William-kun."

The American teen just gazed at the chain with a dumbfounded expression. "Well fuck me."

The black-haired woman shook her head, "N-never!"

"NOT AN INVITATION OR DEMAND!"

Issei patted his clubmate on the back. "Seems this one is on you Senpai."

Grabbing the chain, William slumped into a bench. "Why me...How am I gonna explain this to my dad?"

DXD

"So, she killed you?"

"Yup."

"And now she's powerless and bound to you?"

"The bound part was an accident but yes more or less."

"And you want her staying here?"

"Well, I don't want but she can't exactly go anywhere else and face punishment from me or Issei."

"Last two questions: What will she be doing and do I have to buy her clothes?"

"Buchou said she would attend school with us. And Akeno said something about clothes, so that's covered."

Isaac was taking it surprisingly well all things considered. He himself was just returning home from some job when his son arrived with the Fallen Angel in tow. He didn't even bat an eye when he was told about the assault on the church or shown the chain as proof. If anything, he seemed more concerned with the logistics of it all. He barely looked at Raynare, who seemed to be debating between berating the human or scolding the teen holding her chain like she was a dog. Not that she had much choice.

"Well then, take any of the empty rooms upstairs. If the bed isn't right-"

William interrupted with a smile on his face. "She can deal with it, until she can buy her own."

Isaac closed his mouths at his son's statement and chose not to answer. Even when the woman made an annoyed face as she went upstairs. "You better not peak at me in the shower!" She shouted when she got halfway.

A stray thought crossed William's mind about that, but he quickly banished it. He wasn't like Issei and he wasn't going to be a creep towards her. Sure, he wanted her dead for what she did, but he had standards. Stepping into the kitchen for a drink he opened the fridge. "So, how was-"

"I'm sorry." His father apologized, with a bow and everything.

William wasn't fully understanding of Japanese customs and seeing his father apply them almost made him spill the juice container. "Um excuse me?"

"I shouldn't have threatened you with your situation. I just didn't want to risk you dying permanently." Isaac repeated, with his head still lowered. "You were here barely a month and got hurt, I told your mother you would be safe and then all this happens. I couldn't bear to lose you."

The silence that followed was due to the younger Calister not knowing what to say. A part of him felt like the words 'I forgive you' would be too generous as well as being applied to the past actions of his father.

"I know you deserve to know about that too." As if he was reading his son's mind Isaac raised his head. "And one day I will, but with you and your sister together. You both deserve to know why I left."

Setting the cup down William sighed. "I get you worrying about me, a bit anyway. But please don't do that again."

"I can't promise I won't worry about you or act on it. But I will try not to give you ultimatums like that again."

The two men seemed to have reached an understanding and that was a step for them both. Though where it was going to go, was anyone's guess.

Meanwhile, Raynare was busy washing the grime of the battle off her. She scrubbed her skin as though there was some invisible substance staining her all over. It would be almost an hour before she turned off the water, with William making a dirty joke about her being in there for so long. As she dried herself off with a towel, her brief trek from the bathroom to her room had a moment where she passed by a mirror. On the small of her back in a very faint outline was the image of a three-headed dragon breathing lightning, the symbol glowed softly as she settled into bed for the night.

Handea Airport

Stretching his legs, Joe took a moment to enjoy the fresh air and freedom to move. He didn't have a problem with airplanes, but he never did like being confined for a number of hours at a time. Add in his traveling companion proving to be just as annoying as he ever was...Speaking of said companion.

"YO Joey! Let's go we got stuff to sort out!" The green-haired man called out from a taxi on the other side of the street.

Feeling slightly embraced Joe grabbed his luggage and hauled over to the vehicle. "Would it kill you to show some manners once in a while?"

"Oh, I'm sorry," Ivan mocked him acting as though he was offended. "I thought you were in hurry and on a mission? My mistake, this is just a vacation."

"Zip it Metal Beak." Handing the driver some yen, Joe looked to his companion. "So, where to?"

Ivan grinned like a mad man. "Kuoh Town, kind sir."

The driver began the trip with the two men discussing what they were going to do about lodging and how long they were going to stay. Especially with Joe expressing that he shouldn't be in the country long or he might draw unwanted attention. Much to his surprise Ivan offered that he could help conceal, the dark-skinned man from any that might report him, of course for a small fee. Which raised the question: How did Ivan know where the person they were looking for was?

"I've gotten good at getting in and out of places I'm not supposed to be." Stroking his ego a bit, Ivan rolled the window down a bit. "Hell, I walked by old Bird-face when I was trying to get to China and he never even noticed me."

"So, you saw the person we are looking for?" Asked Joe.

"Yup, saw him right after he killed a guy."

That caused Joe to look at the driver with concern, though nothing seemed to change. "He did what now?"

"Relax tough guy." The Russian chimed letting a thicker accent take over his casual tone. "It was an accident, the kid didn't mean to kill the man and he felt really bad about it."

"Wait a kid? How young we talking?"

"Almost an adult give or take a year. Still in high school. Nice little place, probably living it up since it used to be an all-girl school."

Joe allowed his face to fall into his hands. "This is just fantastic. Well better than an old timer or fucking toddler."

Ivan laughed and clicked his tongue; a rather loud metallic clang rang out with this action. "It will be fine. Driver, let's get some grub first, I'm starving."

The driver nodded and made a right turn. For the first time, Joe noticed that the driver seemed to be almost robotic in his movements. Turning to Ivan, he pointed and made sort of sleep motion. The more energetic man simply gave a thumbs up.

Author Note: Hopefully we won't run into any issues that delay writing again. As for Toho or Monsterverse continuity, we have decided to essentially mix the two. Even though obviously the Monsterverse hasn't covered every kaiju but that won't stop us. And Meps has been showing me more of DxD, I'm on season two right now and it's quite good. I'm a little worried about the art style change after season, but goddamn it I love the style that was used early on. Any who we've also already started at least on the next chapter, which heads up will likely be some filler that leads up to the Phoenix arc. Meps thinks we should flesh out more the kaiju stuff sooner rather than holding off and honestly I'm beginning to agree with her. So we may do some chapters to delay the Phoenix stuff, but we'll see how each chapter is written out.
