"How do you braid your hair?"
The woman looked up from her papers, then slowly glanced to the little boy talking to her.
His hair was black, he wore mostly red, his teeth were sharp and chipped, and he had dark freckles across his face in some places. Silco was his name, he had went by something else, but he didn't anymore.
"How do I braid my hair?" Jinx raised a brow. "Uh-huh." Silco nodded, his arms behind his back.
"I just do." Jinx shortly replied, "Why did you want to know?"
Silco raised his hand to touch his own hair, "Could you braid mine? I don't know how."
"You want your hair braided?" Jinx didn't expect the answer, "I'm not sure it's long enough to braid…"
Silco frowned and lowered his hand, "Are you sure?"
Jinx took a soft breath and then turned her chair, patting her lap. "Sit down, I'll see what I can do."
The small Silco's frown turned into a warm smile as he scrambled into Jinx's lap and sat down, holding his hands together to prevent from flapping them around from the amount of excitement.
Jinx ran her fingers through Silco's hair, trying to measure the length of it, before she began to slowly braid a piece of it. Silco kicked his feet a little, but Jinx didn't comment, she knew he was excited, so she didn't tell him to stop. Jinx held the small braid in place with one hand, and used her now free hand to pull a hair cuff out of a basket on her desk, then began to put the cuff there to keep the braid still.
Silco went to move, but Jinx lightly put her hand on his shoulder, "Wait a minute, Silco. I'm not done yet." Jinx said quietly, before braiding the other side. She repeated what she did on the one side, and put the cuff on it.
"There, now look in the mirror." Jinx placed her hand on Silco's head softly.
Silco climbed out of her lap and ran to a mirror, they were small braids, hardly noticeable, but they were the world to him. Silco turned his heel to look at Jinx and gave her a bright, sharp tooth grin. "Thank you."
Jinx nodded a you're welcome and went back to looking at the papers on her desk. She couldn't help the small smile on her face, realizing she had made Silco happy by braiding his hair.
